Initial setup for teacher laptops?

I am sort of the default tech person for my school district eventhough I have no formal training in computers. We are replacing our 6 year old laptops soon and I wanted to know what the best way to set them up would be. With our current computers I am constantly struggling with them because every computer is so different and I cannot make changes without the staff member right there to enter their password for me.
What I would like to do is to either be the root user or an admin and then have the teachers be admins as well. I also would like to use ARD but half of the laptops will be in a building 20 miles down the road so I am not sure exactly how to set those up so I can troubleshoot issues from my building.  A lot of the issues are insanely simple to fix if I have access and it ***** to have to drive 20 miles to change a setting or restart a program.
Also is it possible to set one of the computers up and then put that image on all of them?

Create yourself a LogMeIn Free account and add these system to that account for remote access.  The client loaded on them will run on startup and tunnel out of the networks to the LogMeIn servers to establish an SSL availability connection.  When you log into your account from any browser on another system you use for admin purposes, you'll see which machines are available to access.  When you connected to them remotely, the connection is completely secure.  Read up on it if you're not sure it's for you.  Go to www.logmein.com.  They even make a client for iOS devices if you're ever in a pinch and need to fix one of these system remotely from your iPhone or iPad.  Slick stuff... and it's trusted.

While running the CTC template for BI Initial Setup for ABAP i am

I have used Java UME option during installation. Will it create any

    Hi,
Hope you would have done all the post precessing after system copy.
Please check what are the entry maintained in the table mentioned below.

  • Initial setup for After Effects

Hi. Running AE CS4 on a Mac Pro w/ 16 GB RAM. Have some questions regarding an initial setup for AE using two internal drives (boot drive is an SSD).
With the aim of keeping my boot drive lean as possible and improving AE performance, in Preferences, under Conformed Media Cache, is it a good idea to select a folder on a different drive than the boot drive for both Database and Cache?
Should I enable Disk Cache and should I choose a folder on the 2nd drive for it? I read that enabling Disk Cache is not a good idea if you only have one internal drive bus. I've got a mid-2010 Mac Pro and I'm not sure if it has more than a single internal drive bus (although there's a reference to busses in the specs).
Re: Enabling "Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously" Without this enabled I was only able to get a RAM Preview duration of about 4" on a particular clip, but with it checked off, I was able to preview the entire clip (20"). So this definitely seems to be a good thing to have enabled. Anything I should be careful about?
Last thing. Does it matter if I keep my AE project files in a folder on the 2nd drive?

You're running CS4. CS4 is old. It was written in 32-bit. This means it can only address under 4 GB of RAM. (CS5 and later are all 64-bit, so they can all access much more RAM.) When you enable multiprocessing in CS4, it actually launches several instances of AE so that it can address more RAM. Thus, your RAM preview will be longer because you are accessing more RAM. Does that help?

While creating a physical standby database from a primary database what is the initial setup in case of the standby database which will be created.
1.Is it that I will only install the oracle with no starter database and then continue with the steps for creating standby database.

  • Initial Setup for Canon HFS100

I am setting up Final Cut Pro 7 with my Canon Vixia HFS100 (AVCHD).
    Recording Settings:
    24 Mbps

I also have some footage in 24Mbps and 60i.
I have examined the drop down selection of all the formats, but I am still unclear which to choose for each of these different footage types.

  • Help with initial setup for AirPort Express

Now, before we decided to go wireless, our internet was configured like this: cable cord to router, ethernet cable connecting the router to CPU. This worked fine and our internet has never really had any sort of problems. However, we have had problems with our new AirPort Express. I've tried taking the ethernet cable that's connecting our router to our CPU, and using it to connect the router to the AirPort Express.
However, I keep getting the flashing amber light. When I go into the diagnostics, it says that it cannot pick up an internet connection, even though I'm able to get internet when I plug in directly. If I try to ignore this and set up the account anyway, I can get my computer to connect to the AirPort Express, but I can't get the AirPort Express to connect to the internet.
    Please help!

pen22, Welcome to the discussion area!
Did you configure the AirPort Express (AX) to use the same settings as your CPU to connect to the internet?

  • Logistic initial setup with delta going on

    Hi,
I am needing to check an old document extraction, since i found it in BW productive system with an error.
The PSA was deleted so i can't see the records that came from R/3.
So, i was thinking to run initial setup for my purchasing datasources, only taking that document. My question is, if the loading process (delta) still going on (i don't want to reload BW), can i make a test to run setup and then delete the tables? Can it be any problem with that?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Setup Problem HP6830 using Hotspot for Printer & Laptop

I have a TMobile Hotspot that gives me internet access for my laptop.I have a HP Officejet Pro that I just got and I'm trying to set it up on the Hotspot network.I've installed (via disk) the HP Software on my Toshiba Coimputer.I've gone through the setup process on the printer and it shows I'm connected to the Hotspot Network. When I try to go through the setup process on the computer it says it can't find that printer.I've checked - over and over again - the IP, and printed everything out (Config Page & Network TestResults) on the Printer, and it indicates everything is OK. My question is - Why can't my computer find the computer (they're both on the same Hotspot Network)?I don't have a USB Cable right now, and I'm trying to set it up wirelessly.  Any suggestion about what I might have missed?  Any help would be appreciated

Hey ,  Welcome to the HP Support Forum.  I understand you're encountering some setup issues when using your HP Officejet Pro 6830 e-All-in-One Printer with a mobile hot spot.  I would like to assist you with this.   In my experience, mobile hotspots are hit and miss when used to support printers' wireless connections, even when the setup's are completed with diligence and care on the part of the user.  This caveat aside, as there are no official documents from HP on how to troubleshoot this particular issue, I recommend  toggling airplane mode on your T-Mobile device before restoring the hotspot connection.  Try the printer to laptop connection via the software as before, once you've confirmed the laptop's connected to the hotspot.  If this approach falls short, you could try the alternative and HP supported wireless direct setup method.  Here's how: From your printer's front panel touch the Wireless Direct icon ()Turn Wireless Direct OnFrom here you can choose to have it enabled with Security On or Off.  If you turn Security On, make a note of the passcode (it'll come in handy later). To learn how to complete the setup on your computer and any other mobile devices, click here for more instructions. Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post.  If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below and clicking to accept this solution. Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!

  • HT5622 I did not choose "use icloud" option for my initial setup.  so, it is creating for not enough space in my ipad.  How do I go back and set up icloud to store data?

I did not choose "use icloud" option for storing during my initial setup.  How can I reset icloud account, so it can be used for storing.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you are planning on using iCloud to store files, forget about iCloud and use a cloud storage service like SkyDrive or Dropbox. iCloud is focused on information sync between the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac and PC instead of storing files like MobileMe. It's not worth using iCloud for this.
If you still want to set up iCloud, open Settings > iCloud, log in with your Apple ID and follow its steps

  • I am a teacher that uses the iPad in the classroom.  I have an itunes account setup for my classroom without a credit card listed. Is there anyway for me to purchase apps to use in the classroom with a Purchase Order?

I am a teacher that uses the iPad in the classroom.  I have an itunes account setup for my classroom without a credit card listed. Is there anyway for me to purchase apps to use in the classroom with a Purchase Order?

(Being sarcastic - its because only the US is big or important enough to warrant volume licensing....)
At this time, until Apple decides to release volume licensing structures outside of the US the only solution would be to use your purchase orders with a company that sells the iTunes Vouchers and redeem those.
However - even then its hard to stay on the right side of the EULA when the terms are all couched in reference to "Personal Use"
I have spoken to some developers in the past about educational discounts, or even support for proxies, and wasn't really impressed with their answers.   But hey - even Adobe has trouble with proxies and consistent approaches - we can't expect independent developers to be able to match the same capabilities...

  • Initial setup of iMac's for business

I recently purchased several iMacs for our business to replace our old Dell desktops.
Since these are going to be work computer and not personal, what would be the best practice during initial setup and registration? Should I register them all up under my name? or is there a option to register under company profile? Along with that, how would each iMac be identified/named on the network?

I think there is even an option to skip registration altogether by pressing Command-Q.
As far as the network identification: On each Mac go to System Preferences and open Sharing. You will see an option for Computer Name. This is the name that will be visible on the network. It would be a good idea to make a spreadsheet in advance where you work out the naming convention for all workstations on your network, then enter the names you decide on into each Mac's Computer Name.
I agree it is a good idea to also set each Mac's hard drive name in a manner consistent with both the other workstations and each Mac's Computer Name, so that each machine and its drives are easy to identify when being browsed over the network in a list with the rest of the machines.
The Computer Name is the "entry point" for each Mac when someone browses your business's network. Logging in to a Computer Name then reveals the volumes shared by that Mac, including the boot drive and any additional hard drives inside the machine or attached externally, which is why consistent naming is important.
Getting the Computer Name right is also important because many other Mac sharing services are tied to it. If you set the Computer Name of a Mac to "receptionist", then people browsing the network will see services (if enabled) like
receptionist (in the Finder sidebar as a Mac with File Sharing/Screen Sharing on)
    *receptionist's iTunes Library*
    *receptionist's iPhoto Library*
    *HP Printer@receptionist*
    *Epson Fax@receptionist*
    and so on.

  • Have base station and added extender for downstairrs. Worked great upon initial setup, but now it won't connect despite an "excellent" signal. What's wrong? Thanks!!

Have base station and added extender for downstairs. Worked great upon initial setup, but now it won't connect despite an "excellent" signal. All i get is a blinking amber light; only get green if I bring it into the same room as the base. Both units are the latest models; purchased 2 months ago. What's wrong? Thanks!!

Power off both the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express
    Wait a minute
Power up the AirPort Extreme and let it run for a few minutes
Now locate the AirPort Express about half way between the AirPort Extreme and the general area where you need more wireless signal coverage, and report on your results.
The more that you can minimize obstructions between the AirPorts like walls, ceilings, etc. the better the wireless will operate.
