Initial signs of RSD problem!

I have had a macbook for about a month now, and just now had a RSD.
I am guessing as the name implies, your macbook suddenly shutsdown for no apparent reason.
Does it get worse as you use your notebook?
Or was this some sort of freak accident??
Also I read on the boards that Apple has figured out a way to get rid of the RSD problem finally, anyone out there using their macbook with the new fix?
Also will Apple give me a hard time if I take it to the store and ask for the replacement, if the problem continues??

I would recommend that you should at least rule out any possible reasons for the defect, this way before sending it in for service you can tell them how you restored the OS, which rules it out as a suspect. but its most likely that a software issue would NOT cause sudden shutdowns, unless something inside your computer is sending a random command to powerdown suddenly, but what oh what could that be? :/ to tell you the truth, i wish my macbook was as stable as my old dell inspiron 8200 that i gave to my girlfriend. it's over 3 years old now, and still works quickly on just 768MB of RAM. it never got terribly hot, as the fans came on fairly often, even with its "measly" 1.70GHz intel pentium M processor.
My RSD was severe the very day it happened, within a matter of minutes of its first RSD, the machine was never capable of booting up within hours of it occuring without the help of throttled mode. if it was at all a software issue, it wouldve been determined by now. but seeing as how the new intel desktops are not exhibiting the RSD, that software issue mumbo jumbo doesn't fly.

  • How to sign in?  (problem with username and/or password)

I created an account long ago for the Support Communities with an Apple ID:  xxx.mac.com.
I created an account not so long ago for iTunes with an Apple ID:  xxx.gmail.com.
Where they suppost to be the same?  Wasn't sure.  In any event, I've been using them both without a hitch.  Then I realized that I could have a password recovery problem with my Support Communities account because I haven't had the xxx.mac.com email address for several years now.
Problem:  When I use my older Apple ID for Support Communities, it will not allow me to change my email to my current xxx.gmail.com address.  I suspect it recognizes the address is already being used with me newer Apple ID for iTunes.  My solution was to simply ditch the older ID and try signing in with my newer ID.  Unfortunately with that route, I get:
"We're sorry.  Your account could not be created due to system issues.  Please contact Apple Support Communities with the information below to create your account."  [Which I've done, but no response.]
Questions:  Are the ID support to be the same or different?  Either way, it doesn't really matter to me, but I either need to update my address for the older ID or be able to use my newer ID in Support Communities.  Because of this, I'm unable to use any type of email notification and I'm afraid I could have a problem with password recovery if I were in that position.
    Thanks for any comments.

Problem solved and completely my error.
My login with the old Apple Discussions was [email protected]  At some point, with the new Apple Support Communities, some time ago, I was prombed to create a new account and I did so.  My username was simply "xxx" without the "@mac.com".
So that was the problem.  My old [email protected] still had my old address.  I kept logging in with this ID and kept trying to update my address.  Where I thought it was recognizing that this address was already used with my iTunes account, it was because it was used with my newer Support Communities ID (xxx) that I didn't even remember I had created.
Turned out it was something so simple.  (I hate when that happens.)  I had to play my "idiot card".
Thanks to Apple support for the direct email correspondence that finally got me on the right track.

  • Windows 8.1 Initial Sign on

10 minutes while it goes through the screens "installing your applications ", "taking care of a few things", and "getting your apps ready".  Is that normal?
I am curious if MDT is the cause of this just because if I push out the install.wim from the Windows 8.1 media to a system the initial login time is about 2 or 3 minutes. Same is true if I use a build and capture task sequence from SCCM.
Just curious if anyone else has experienced this slow initial logon with MDT 2013 and Windows 8.1, and what was done to fix it.
    Thanks,

First time you logon to a windows 8 / 8.1 takes some time.
To reduce the time you can remove some of the builtin app:

  • Updating to signed JARs causes problems for older Java versions?

Bear with me on this one -- not a Java developer, but an end user of Java products looking for a little clarification.
We use a product which delivers a Java application via JAR file / web to end users (GlobalScape's EFT server).  With the recent release of Java 7 Update 51, users have been running into issues running these JAR files as they are not properly "signed".  We're working with the vendor to get updated signed JAR files in place, but they've warned us that these new JAR files will cause errors (or maybe not work at all) on folks who aren't running Java 7 Update 51.
Trying to wrap my head around why that might be.  Best theory I can come up with from perusing threads here along with the Java team blogs is that the new security attributes used in the updated JAR files aren't "trusted" by older versions of Java (prior to Update 51?).
We're pushing our vendor for clarification, but curious if someone here could help explain.
    Thanks!

I suspect the problem with 'new JAR files will cause errors' is mainly because the vendor keeps enhancing their product, and may not any more support older JREs, or the new jars are no more compatible For example, we build our product on JDK 1.5 ... as some users out there must use that one because the 'newer and better' release does not work for them.
But so far, we have not seen any problems running the 'JRE 7 Compliant' applications on older releases ... provided you can make your application run on latest JRE 7.
In most cases, one can simply remove the previous signature, add (now required) attributes, and sign the same jar again.
But I have yet to find a vendor that would simply add attributes to some older release and re-sign those. Perhaps they can't repeat the build / QA cycle, and would not 'trust' the re-signed jars.
Our curse are signed Cryptographic Provider jars.
Those must be signed by certificates rooted by Sun/Oracle, and adding attributes invalidates that signature - we can re-sign them, but then they won't work. In our case, we are stuck with 5+ year old Bouncy Castle jars, and it does not help us that their 'current' jars are signed with attributes - they are completely incompatible..
IMHO, Oracle failed to think this all thru - or does not care.

  • Itunes infinite sign in loop problem

I did quite a lot of research into this issue and all of the solutions that worked for others does not work for me at all. The problem is that I cannot sign in to my itunes account on my mac at all. I keep getting the sign in loop where I have to re-enter my password over and over again. At first it didn't bother me since I don't do anything but listen to my music library but it became a pain when I tried to access iTunes Radio or buy a song from the iTunes Store. If I but something on my iPod it works okay but why can't I properly sign in on my Mac? I have the latest OS X and the most recent updates have all been installed.
Here are the "solutions" I have tried with no success:
    Reinstalled iTunes
    Deleted the "SC Info" Folder
Changed the name of my computer
    Deauthorized and Reauthorized my computer
    Changed my password (twice)
Allowed cookies from both Safari and Chrome (my default browser)
Signed out and in after doing all of these tips
I remember downloading iTunes and getting an iPod because it was peerless when it came to music but now I'm starting to see what a gimmick iTunes is and how much Apple is starting to decline is product satisfaction.
Does anyone have any other solutions that I can try? Or should I just give up and find something else.

  • Endless sign in loop problem

I am having a problem using both Muse and Business Catalyst via Dreamweaver.  I cannot start Muse, or log into BC.
I have a recently purchase monthly Creative Cloud subscription, with a valid Adobe ID.
First I will explain what happens:
The problem was first encountered when I tried to start Muse from my desktop. It would prompt me with a pop-up screen that says "Further account information is required to use Adobe Muse. You will need to sign in to continue." So I would click "next" and see the "sign in" area was already populated with my Adobe ID (my email address) with the password field blank.  So I enter my password and click "sign in" and it cycles like it's trying, and then just takes me right back to the first screen "Further account information...... etc etc" and it just goes in a circle like that.
I tried searching for help on the forums, but the closest thing I could find suggested that I maybe the problem is that I haven't logged into Business Catalyst yet, soi tried logging into BC via Dreamweaver, and that gave the exact same cyclical event as above with Muse.
I have talked to someone on Live Adobe Help Chat twice.  The first time they told me "this product is brand new, and some kinks are being worked out, just wait 24hrs and try again." I did that, it didn't work. The second time, the conclusion was to refer me to the Business Catalyst Help.
Also, I tried resetting my password, and that didn't work.
I cannot get Muse to start, as I cannot get past the sign in screen.  I am paying for these services, and I just want them to work.  It's as simple as that.
Any guidance or help or solutions on this are greatly appreciated.

  • Sign in required problem with Elements 12

I installed Elements 12, and it request that you register with Adobe. It states that I will be signed in with Adobe ID [email protected] I am having trouble with this, probably because now my Adobe ID is [email protected]
Because of this I signed into Adobe and registered Elements 12 with the serial number, and it shows up on my account. But I still am getting the warning that I must register or in 6 days it will stop working. I hop someone from
Adobe can fix this for me. Thank you.

That usually means something is blocking access to the Adobe activation servers. Temporarily disable your anti-virus and firewall, and rename C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts to hosts.old. If validation then works, rename hosts back, and turn back on your firewall and anti-virus.
If it doesn't help you may need to go to the Adobe support page and start a Chat session with Adobe - http://helpx.adobe.com/uk/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-deactivation-products.html.

  • Skype 7.1 doesn't let me sign in - IE8 problems

To the person who sucessfully downloaded and installed an older version (6. whatever it was): Where did you find the older version? Could you please send a link?
I've been having lots of trouble trying to use Skype version 7.1. Seems like it installs but it will never let me sign in.
Very frustrating. Version 7.1 seems not to work for someone with an older computer still using XP (with service pack 3, 32 bit).
Could this issue be related to problems with Internet Explorer 8? Under the system requirements for this latest version of Skype it says I need Explorer 8. Well, that's easier said than done! My Explorer is not working (I believe I have 'Modver: 8.0.6001.19328') and seems to be corrupted. So far I've been unable to update it, or uninstall it. And even if I figure out how to uninstall, I'm afraid that afterwards I won't be able to re-install Explorer 8 (which BTW I would need ONLY for Skype, since I normally use Firefox). When I go to Microsoft.com downloads and look up Explorer 8, I get this message: "Internet Explorer 8 is not compatible with your system. You are running Windows XP 32-bit."
What can I do?? Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!!!

Even with an older Skype version you will not be able to login if your Internet Explorer is defect.
Try first to reset all Internet Explorer settings to default.

Hmmm... i don`t know how that can be when everyone else seems to have the problem without even trying to reproduce it. Apparently they don`t sign in and try clicking Msdn links very much.

  • RSD problem... should I put stock RAM back in before calling Apple?

I called Apple support today and apparently since I'm a few days past my 90 day warranty period I have to pay $49 to speak with someone about my Macbook shutting down before I can send it to them for repair. (***?! never had this problem with Dell... 1 year warranty, no hassle) Anyway, before I call apple and fork over the money, should I put the stock RAM back into the machine? I have a feeling they'll say "well your RAM must be the issue.. sorry, if it keeps up call us back and fork over another $49.

Perhaps my Apple-service experience will help you.
My macbook shut-off unexpectedly a few weeks ago while doing something completely mundane. It happened again at work a few days later. Thanks to all the chatter about random shut-downs on these forums I chose to call Apple. I booked my appointment online at the Genius Bar, Apple Store Eaton Centre, and saw them the very same day.
This was my first time at the Genius Bar.
Despite the volume of people in the store, the bar stools allowed me to get away from the crowd and focus on the task at hand – being processed. It was Saturday, so I wasn’t in a hurry. After a while, I was signed in and they took away my macbook. It didn’t take long for them to return and confirm that my logicboard needed to be replaced. Just like that. No big fuss at all. Just when I thought we were done, they noticed the stained palm rests. I thought this was normal – apparently not. Replaced. Screen bezel? Replaced.
I depend on this computer for my work. Giving it up is not an option. We arranged instead to have it brought in when the three parts were in stock. Two days later the parts were in. I’m lucky enough to have a friend who could lend his G3 iBook. Moving in temporarily was a painless task through the Sharing Preferences. As a first time mac user, this was an effortless experience.
    Friday August 18, 2006
    • Phone call: Your computer is ready.
    • Hours later…Phone call two: ‘Our burn-in test has shown a failure with a component connecting the battery to the logic board.’ Wonderful! They fixed that too. Being Friday, I wasn’t expecting them to have parts shipped until Monday.
The part – finally - came in on Tuesday. Although expecting the call – I wasn’t expecting this particular bit of good news. Instead of returning frankenstein macbook, they relocated my hard-drive and ram to a new macbook.
    Nice.

So I set up and enjoyed one, count em, one user account. Then it stopped working again. I can't set up a Group. I can't use Workgroup Manager successfully, either. The whole server has been one big mess of fail.
Is this a common problem? Is there a fix? A workaround? Do I need to take this thing back??

Check this site out for starters

It's not just for schools, and it offers a lot of info on setting up OS X server.
It is possible that there is some hardware problem, but it's more likely that you need to setup the server correctly. If you're not familiar with OS X Server, it's not necessarily easy.

  • Display Quirk - Sign of Future Problems?

This display of my White MacBook 13" (late 2007) has never given me any problems, but the last day or so it has been waking up oddly from sleep. It wakes up momentarily, then turns dark and can only be revived by shutting the screen (or almost shutting it). Is this a sign of a potential future problem? I read that other people have had problems with the computer sleeping without provocation - that is not the issue here.

I believe I'm having the same problem. About 50% of the time when I wake it from sleep by opening the lid, the screen is dark but on. I've learned if you hold down F1 for a few seconds, then hit F2 this tends to bring it back to life.
But mine also just started doing this over the past week or some and it's becoming a real pain in the rear.
I've tried some different things I've seen about this and nothing has fixed it yet.
