Ink Or Something On The Palm Area

It looks like ink that's next to the trackpad thanks to my sister. I know this sounds stupid but I used rubbing alcohol on it and most of it went off. The stupid part is that I want the MacBook to look good. But there's still some ink that won't seem to get off. Any suggestions on how I can get rid of it?

While I feel really uneasy suggesting this you might try Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I'm uneasy about it because I've never actually used one on my MacBook (I have a black one) but I've used them for other things and they're great. I mean really amazingly great. Plus I've seen on here other suggesting them to clean their MacBooks.
If you're not familiar with them they're just a sponge that you dampen with water and you just rub it over the offending spot. I hesitate to suggest it because as I say I haven't used it and I'd hate to suggest it and have you damage the surface but others seem to have good results with it.

When I am using Mozilla, I cannot go back one page unless the arrow is black. Most of the time it is grey which means you 'CAN'T
go back. When I click on the red X to close the page it says, "you are about to close (4 tabs) or however many, "DO YOU WISH TO CONTINUE?" Well, NO, I want to go back to the first page so I can either delete the e-mail or go on to the next one.
Another issue: when you are looking at your e-mail, there is no way to go to the next one unless you delete the one you are looking at. Am I right about this or am I just unlearned on how to use mozilla? Thank you very much for a prompt answer.

Make sure that you close the tab by clicking the close X on the Tab bar or middle-click the tab if the close X is hidden.
If you use the close X in the top right corner then you close the window with all the current tabs.

Best option for protecting the palm wrest area from staining?

My new white MacBook is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I currently use a blackbook. Anyway, I have kind of oily skin, and I'm worried about staining on the white plastic on the new computer where my palms rest during use.
What's the best option for protecting this area? I've seen the Marware protection pack, but I've read quite a few bad reviews on it.
Any ideas?

I use Mareware's product on my WhiteBook and it is sold at the Apple Store and Apple online. It also comes with a keyboard cover cloth to put on when the Book is closed to protect the screen. The cloth doubles as a soft wipe for the screen. The palm rest is custom fitted for the palm area and is removable. I have removed it twice and stuck it back on. Chipped Off Palm Area- Not A Repost- Pls Help!

Hi I had written a post about how the palm area on my macbook was peeling off!

It has broken off now and the Apple guys insist I did it somehow and its not a manufacturing defect. I will be going again to the Apple Center in Delhi tomorrow but wanted your opinions.
Shall I stick the plastic back? Would the adhesive harm the notebook in anyway?
Also pls look at the picture and give me your inputs. I am pretty bummed out as I always prided myself for keeping it in an impeccable condition.

Hi, I just had the same thing happen to mine! I also keep my macbook in impeccable shape, and when it seemed like the right palm area was sagging, i looked closer and saw the crack.
Let me know if you find out what this person did to fix theirs? I will be calling applecare tomorrow and seeing what they can do for me. I'll also call my local apple repair place (the local apple store recommends people go there) and get their opinion.

Printer Causing Palm Area Vibration

hey guys, i recently bought a new HP printer and works perfectly. But when i connect the USB cable to my MBP, the palm area vibrates mildly. Any ideas why or how to combat this?

It sounds like you need a new desk. Put some soft dampening material under the printer. What works great is the non skid mnaterial you can buy to line drawers with so things don't move around.

You might find it helpful to "try before you buy" - there is a 30 day free trial offer for Office for Mac 2011, accessible from M's .com website.
You may be able to use this period to open and resave your old documents in a format that enables you to switch instead to using Apple's iWorks apps moving forward.
I initially intended to do something similar, but ended up buying Office as it provided an easier way (for me, at least) to continue working with years worth of old emails, letters, spreadsheets and other documents (from my PC days) without risking damage to their integrity, formatting, etc.

Cookies are written to the cookie file but sites are not finding them. I've tried all the suggestions I could find. I'm using OS 10.5.8 Could there be something in the OS causing the problem? My Win7 laptop works with the same sites.

I cannot log-in to accounts on other websites e.g. eBay, Amazon, for starters. I get messages that I need to turn on cookies. They are on and I can see the cookies in the cookie file but the programs are not making the connections and not finding the cookies. I've found that I have the same problem with Safari and Camino. The problem only exits on my Mac with OS 10.5.8 On my new Windows 7 laptop Firefox has no problem logging into any of my existing accounts.

Word documents are garbled when sent through Outlook Exchange. I know something in the profile folder gets corrupted. Anyone know what?

Our school district uses the web based version of Outlook Exchange. Several of us using Apple computers have had problems when sending word documents as attachments. When received, the document is full of garbled text. This has happened with different model computers, running 10.5.x or 10.6.x. I determined that removing the items from the folder in profiles (Users-> <user> ->Library->ApplicationSupport->Firefox->Profiles-><profile folder>) the problem is resolved. However, all preferences for Firefox are then lost. Does anyone know what specific item in the folder would cause this?

In Acrobat Pro is it possible to see a ratio of ink to paper in relation to the surface area?

I need to be able to create/alter a design to have 50% ink coverage, but am unsure of how to measure this. Is there somewhere you can see the ratio of ink to paper in Acrobat Pro? I have access to both Acrobat Pro 9 and Acrobat Pro X

Are you asking "cover 50% of the surface area of the paper" - No
or "limit ink to 50% tint" - Yes. Output Preview can be set to highlight any coverage amount over a given limit. (As can InDesign)

A virus entered my PC (something with the extension _TOR) and now my PDF are corrupted?

A virus entered my computer with the TOR extension. This virus replicate itself into every file folder including my USB drives connected to the computer. The computer has since been cleaned from the virus however now i cannot open a single PDF. I have tried installing the latest version of Adobe Reader from the Adobe site and tried there. I even took my files into other computers to see if I could open them; still nothing. I am able to see the size of the files and the files are all there some very large and others not so large so I know there is no "piece" of the file missing. The error I keep getting on every file is this "
Adobe Reader could not open ..... because it is either not
a supported file type or because the file has been damaged
(for example, it was sent as an e-mail attachment and wasn't
correctly decoded).
I am able to see the thumbnail picture of several of the files so i know the content of them is there. I don't know what else to do. Please help.

Let's try one thing; if that does not work, you may need to restore your documents from backup.

If you are referring to the fact that, in the App Store app, after you have installed or updated an App, that the Install button changes to now read "Open" then this does not mean that the App is Open and running. It means, rather, that, if you touch the button now marked "Open", the App will be started and "Open". It's just a quick way to get to the App you have just installed or updated.
