Inkscape Blurring my Bitmaps

Hi all,
Can anyone shed some light on why Inkscape blurs my bitmap when I trace it?
Example:
On the left is my bitmap - clear as a bell.
On the right is the vectorized bitmap trace - blurred and annoying
I'm using "Colors" under the "Multiple scans" box of the Trace Bitmap options box.

N30N wrote:The "blur" is from the multiple paths created when using the "Multiple scans" options. Just use a single pass and and set the colour your self.
That worked - thanks

Sorry - you're not alone down this corner of the world any more
CFA won't give out hi-res versions of the Logo even to their own brigades because it may only be used "as authorised"! So I'm vectoring it myself so we can use it on our website and in our newsletter.

  • Stretched bitmaps blurred when rendered using GPU on iOS, how to avoid?

    Hi,
    in a project of mine (targeting iPhone 4) I'm using pixel art. To show it properly I stretch the bitmap using scaleX/scaleY. However, when rendering using GPU the bitmaps get blurred, ruining the clear pixel art effect that I am after. Rendering using CPU does not blur the bitmaps, but is slower.
    Any ideas on how to tell the renderer not to blur bitmaps?
    There was a similar questions raised in another thread ( http://forums.adobe.com/thread/866712 ) but it derailed into a benchmarking discussion.
    Thank you in advance.

    I did not.
    Instead I rewrote my code to scale up all my spritesheets in software upon load. Something like this:
    var bd : BitmapData = new BitmapData( _spriteWidth * magicScale, _spriteHeight * magicScale, true, 0x0 );
    var matrix:Matrix = new Matrix( magicScale, 0, 0, magicScale );
    bd.draw( originalBitmapData, matrix );
    frames.push( bd );
    The variable magicScale is stored behind the scenes in the engine so the rest of the code just acts as if the scene was not scaled.
    Note that this solution does not use any blitting techniques, it places bitmaps on the stage and then swaps the bitmapData in them. No off screen buffers, just relying on the GPU.
    Works pretty well!

  • Constantly redrawing a bitmap & blurring it?

    Hi,
    I have a movie clip with motion in it. I'd like to duplicate this image, blur it, and mask it. I think I can do all of that, but I don't know how to update the blur so it will blur the moving elements in my movie clip.
    Can anyone explain how to constantly take a snapshot of a movieclip and blur it (while disposing of old snapshots)?
    Thank you!

    first draw is a very slow method in comparrison to copyPixels.  this should always be the preferred choice when dealing with bitmaps if at all possible.  since you are duplicating an image this will work in your favor.
    2nd.  blurring is a very processor intensive behavior, and third full screen is even more crucial.
    Parallaxing / blurring/ full screen = nightmare.
    but there is hope
    the best thing you could do is copy your full screen save that as an original bitmap
    then have a second bitmap to copyPixels from the original bitmap after applying a blur filter and then turn the blur filter =null
    then reapply the stage with your image.  the best you can do in your case would be pretty advanced but the ideal scenario would be to bitmap and blit your whole stage.
    like pacman the game.  believe it or not there was not 1 moving part to that game it was all a bitmap.  The motion algorithems were done pre render and then the pacman , ghosts and food were then placed accordingly.
    this is what you should do as well.  the less there is to draw and redraw is the main way to improve performance.  unfortunately having blur and transparencies add to the redraws especially with moves, but if you merged the background and foreground and the blurs into 1 bitmap, you can sucessfully redraw the stage 1 time without nested renders.

  • Any way to see sharp pixels in a bitmap close-up?

    Is there a way turn off antialias for a particular object (bitmap)?
    I want to fly the camera close to an image and see sharp edged pixels rather than a blur. Can this be done?

    Not really, but what makes you think antialiasing is active on this item?
    All you're doing when you scale or get closer to a bitmap is make the limited number of pixels into bigger pixels. It is not possible to create more pixels in Motion. go back to the source image's creation applciation and scale it up 200-400% and bring it back into Motion. You just need to make sure you aren't simply making the pixels bigger in the host application. You must find a way to create more pixels.

  • PDF shows in safari 5.1, text is blurred out.

    Hi all,
    I've been having the problem of safari not showing pdf's, this is partially solved now. But since I've followed the steps on another thread here,
    I can see the pictures in a pdf, but not the text. The text seems to be blurred out as shown in the picture below :
    Another awkward issue is that when I open the same pdf in Google Chrome, de pdf shows normally, but when I try to open the pdf from chrome in preview, the same blurred text appears.
    Any solutions?

    Did the person that made the PDF use Word for Windows to make the PDF?* It's now possible to make PDFs directly from Word with File > Save As but one of the default options, "Bitmap text when fonts may not be embedded", makes the text (by now a graphic) unreadable in Preview or the built-in Safari view. I don't know if this is Microsoft's fault for making the bitmaps in a strange way, or Apple's fault for having a bug in Preview.
    * You could always find out by opening the PDF in Preview and doing Tools > Show Inspector

  • Photoshop CS5 Spot Healing Brush only blurs

    Here's a before and after shot.  I recently upgraded from CS3 and the spot healing brush always worked great.
    Now when I use it, whether or not I use content aware fill, it leaves a blurred residue of what I was trying to remove.
    As an aside, the Content Aware Fill leaves a similar residue, enough to make it effectively unusable.
    I have included a sample photo of the spot healing brush problem.  Left side is before and right side is after.
    I just wanted to get rid of the electrical wall socket.  You can see that it's not working.  I am running windows 8 in a 64-bit environtment and running the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS5.5
    Any assitance anyone is able to afford me is greatly appreciated.

    In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with your choice of Spot Healing Brush for this image. I cropped your screenshot to the "BEFORE" image, removed the "BEFORE" type (with the SHB) and scaled to 600% to match your original document.
    A dab of a 0% hardness 500 pixel Spot Healing Brush in Ps CS5.1 on OS X 10.6.8 worked perfectly. However, I would have made a vertical stroke with the brush at about 80% hardness and about 200 pixels, which also works for me.
    Maybe your SHB is working in "Create Texture" mode despite specifying "Proximity Match" in Options bar. Try resetting the SHB by right-clicking its icon at left of Options bar and picking "Reset Tool" from the menu that appears.

  • Where is the "blur kernel" one click deblur in Photoshop CS6?

    Where is the "blur kernel” one click deblur in Photoshop CS6? (Pretty sure it’s not there.)
    Is deblur still in development? Or was it killed? Is there any status update on the progress of the deblur function? An overwhelming majority of the information available reference the same October 2011 Adobe Max conference demo.
    (Adobe showed off the new deblur prototype at its Adobe Max conference in October during a set of feature sneak peeks...)
    The way the feature was described was:
    "The prototype feature uses a computer algorithm to analyze how the image was blurred and then creates what Adobe called a "blur kernel." After the kernel is generated, it can show you information such as what the motion trajectory of the camera was while the shutter was open -- causing the blur in the first place. The next step is to simply hit a "restore sharp image" button and the photograph is fixed."
    It was cited by some sources as being an upcoming Photoshop CS6 feature while other sources were more vague with statements resembling "It's not clear if or when the new unblur feature will make it into a future version of Photoshop, as the company warned all sneak peek features were just prototypes with no concrete product plans."
    Where is the latest with the Adobe Photoshop "blur kernel” and the Adobe Photoshop one click deblur feature?

    one of the things I think about as an engineer is that in order for something like this to work,  you should probably start with manuals adjustments to processing the the out-of-focus blur first. after you have finished with this, you can do the motion blur.  I would have to really think hard about it to see if there is an algorithm such as a kernel or something to convert an image into a path. one problem is you are stuck with the image boundaries. if they weren't there, things would be so much easier (but it would also take infinitely long to process).  the image boundaries MIGHT skew the kernel, depending on how you handle the boundaries (for example, usually you just assume those values are black or 0's, or you may choose a 50% gray, whatever fits best with the kernel you are working with).
    adobe may be on to something there, but they only had half of the equation with the idea.
    I used to tinker with image processing many yarns ago back for fun in BASICA/GWBASIC.
    if you have the kernel
    [-2 0 2]
    [-2 0 2]
    [-2 0 2]
    which amplifies vertical lines, you would want to handle the boundaries by processing them as 0's.
    NOTE TO ADOBE: it might start getting into Machine Vision technology when you start doing the path recognition. or AI.
    if you can get the imge into a path kernel, it's essentially a bitmap of a path.  you can trace that path using akima spline curves. (will lose 1-2 samples off each end), but the tracing program might just exist out there somewhere.  just google "bitmap to akima spline curve".  and akima spline curve has all the
    points along its path, unlike a bezier. I like akima spline curves, I have been trying to get ps engineers to use them for a while for good reason. this is one of them.
    there are also cubic splines as an alternative.
    chances are that the curve will have rounded corners due to the weight of the camera.
    now that you have the path,it's simply a matter of taking samples along the curve wherever you want. (usually in an array which you can linearly inerpolate across the points in the array for simplicity if you want)

  • Iris blur shows black picture

    Hi everbody,
    I have been looking around the forums and other webpages but haven't found a soluten yet - maybe you can help me. In Photoshops CS6 when applying an Iris blur the picture turns black.
    When I move the pins around I see the picture but this goes away as soon as no pin is moved.
    This behaviour has been reported on other webpages before but there has been no solution and people think it is caused by a graphics driver bug. Do you have any ideas or soultions? I have updated the latest Photoshop and system updates.
    Here is some information about my system:
    Mac OS X 10.8.3
    MacBook Pro Retina, Mid 2012
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M
    Photoshop CS6
    It would be great if you could help me with this
    Thank you very much
    Florian

    Florian,
    I think that the Video Card Drivers for your pc seems to be culrpit here.
    Check the model of your video card in device manager and go to the Vendor websites like NVIDIA or ATI.
    Download and install the most recent drivers and it should fix the issue for you!

  • Text blur around objects

    Problem: text wrapped around an inserted object blurs, especially if the object has a shade. Increasing the Extra Space around the object reduces the blur, but does not get rid of it. And trying to achieve a wrap tighter than the default 12 points makes the blur very noticeable. The blur, though less visible, appears when Reflection, the jolly new feature in Pages 2, is used to go over text underneath an object.
    This problem is particularly troublesome when producing professional print PDFs.
    To see what I am talking about open the first page of the Smith Family Newsletter template and have a look at the characters to the right of the house photo in the centre of the page.
    Has anyone dealt with this successfully? Would be very obliged if you could point me to a solution.

    iMac, iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hello sashura,
    this happens when exporting to minor quality PDFs, because of the conversion of the shadow and reflection effects into images. Lower quality PDFs are stored with lower resolutions for bitmap images. If you need 1A PDF quality, use the ColorSync app for PDF saving. To do so, follow these steps:
    1) Open the print requester in Pages and choose the item "ColorSync" in the 3rd pop-up menu.
    2) There choose the last entry (for adding filter) of the pull-down menu "Quarz-Filter". Your document will be open in the ColorSync app.
    3) Click on the button with the three filters in the tool bar of the window and a new window opens.
    4) Create a new filter and name it for a PDF/X-3 filter.
    5) Over the menu triangle button at the right of the filter name bar you can add filter content. Choose the component for PDF submenu and there the PDF/X-3 item.
    6) Now you can see the filter attributes. In the row before the last one you can insert the resolution. This is important for shadows and fonts above and inside of shadowed shapes, too. With the attributes you have control over trim- and bleed boxes as well.
    7) When you are ready with your settings, close the filter window and choose the just created filter with the pop-up menu at the bottom of the ColorSync window. Than press the accept button and save the PDF document.
    With this you have the best control for PDF print options.
    I hope this solves your problem, because since I use this I have no display quality problems for printing.

  • Bitmap images have grayscale settings

    I'm creating pdfs using Acrobat Standard 6.0 from Word documents. The documents contain images in color, grayscale and bitmap mode. For some reason the bitmap images in the final pdfs are not appearing as bitmaps but appear with the settings for the grayscale images. Meanwhile, the actual grayscale images appear with the color settings. The color images are fine. I've experimented with different resolutions for each type of image and each time the results follow the pattern described.
    I'd be interested to know where in the chain of events is the problem is occurring, or if anyone can suggest a way of trying to pin it down. I've tried two separate versions of Word, so I'm assuming the problem lies elsewhere.
    Thanks for any advice.

    Is there a way really one can use to convert bitmap
    images into vectored images?
    I ask this question in response to a problem that I
    have. I take photos using a camera of resolution 72
    pixels per inch and then process them in a program I
    have written in Java. I then print cards as the
    output of the system processing. The picture quality
    I then produce is a worry. The images are blurred and
    they rather look like zoomed bitmap images. Its not
    very disgusting but its something the clients are
    complaining about. And what makes you think that vectorizing an image is actually an improvement?

  • Blurred text in icons

    Hello everyone,
    when I write text into icons (almost in every icons), the text appears as blurred, not sharp. There's a kind of shade.
    Since the text is minuscle, the final result is not clearly readable.
    I tried many fonts but the result is the same.
    Does anybody know why and how to make clear text to appear ?

    Altenabch has a point here.
    It is something related to Clear Type optimisation, I'm using a laptop BTW.
    But unfortunately the final result in the small icon is as blurred as in the drawing area.
    It seems that the editor draws the characters in the bitmap area of the icon editor, and from that point the icon is just a bitmap, forgetting whatevet picture optimisation (Clear Type) might have been done.
    Anyway, as already said, I'm fine with just one font (Small Font). I don't really have the need to play with fancy fonts .

  • Bitmap text (no anti-alias)

    It' possible in Actionscript 3 to use a font ("Munica
    Regular", 8 -
    http://pixelfonts.style-force.net/download/munica-regular/)
    without antialiasing?
    I've embedded the font:
    @font-face {
    src:local("Munica Regular"); // also valid
    sr:url("MUNIRG__.TTF");
    fontFamily: municaRegular;
    then ,
    tfHeader=new TextFormat();
    tfHeader.font="municaRegular";
    tfHeader.color=0xFFFFFF;
    tfHeader.size=8;
    var myText:TextField=new TextField();
    myText.embedFonts = true;
    myText.defaultTextFormat=tfHeader;
    myText.text="My embedded font";
    All works well but the rendering appear so blurred (aliated).
    I've tried with antiAliasType="advanced" and some value of
    gridFitType, but nothing great.
    It's possible to say "Use bitmap text and don't apply
    antialiasing"? antiAliasEnabled=false?
    Thanks

    Can someone please help me with the above problem?
    I've published two images to show what appen.
    This it's the correct
    one (without embedding font and with font installed in the client
    machine).
    This it's the wrong one

  • Outtputting Bitmap Images

    I have a project that requires we save a movieclip as a

    movieclip to a bitmap object and use the jpgencoder or pngencoder
    classes to convert the data to the correct format. However, my
    question is : can I get this to work locally through a flash

    I have tried editing the images in different photo editors but it still remains a question. I have tried to change the resolution of the images but still the problem persists. This the led me to thinking that the reasons could be:
    1. the printer I am using is printing at a different resolution with the resolution of the camera.
    2. the images are bitmaps and so since I am changing the height and width (propotionally though), that could be leading to distortion of the images slightly. Hence I am looking for a bitmap to vector image convetor.
    Suggestions with regards to where I could be going wrong are very much welcome.

  • Importing to Ai from INKSCAPE

    I created a logo for my boss.  I was using INKSCAPE, (a vector program).  I sent an svg file to the people who were going to print it and use it for other things.  The blurred drop shadows and gradient did not carry over.  Those people are using Ai.
    Now that I have Ai as well, I began experimenting.  First I emailed the file.  I sent it from INKSCAPE on one computer to INKSCAPE on another computer.  The blurred shadows and the gradient carried over fine.  But there was another problem.  There were 2 lines of text.  The top line appeared fine in the file that arrived on the second computer.  But the bottom line seemed to be a different font!  I checked the font name, and it was the same as the original, (except there was an up-side-down triangle, [yellow filled], with an exclamation mark inside).  I take that as meaning something's wrong.  But I don't know how to find out what.
    Some of my problem is due to the fact that I'm visually impaired.  It's very hard for me to find things on a computer screen.  I can't skim over stuff on a screen to find what I'm looking for.  I have to use the Windows Magnifier and look at every little thing carefully, one by one.  It's like looking for your car in a large parking lot by walking around instead of flying over it with a helicopter and spotting it right away.
    Then I realized that I had converted the top line of text to a path.  So it copied perfectly!  But the bottom line was still 'text.'  I'm thinking if I convert the bottom line to a path as well, it'll also copy perfectly.  But don't you think that shouldn't be necessary?  And if the font isn't installed on the second computer, why does it still say the name of the font that should've been displayed?
    I just got Ai, so I'm not familiar with how it works.  So any help will be very much appreciated.

    If you want to keep text exactly as it is in Inkscape, then it is a good idea to convert it to paths before transferring it to Illustrator. Each program treats text differently.
    You won't be able to edit the text in Illustrator.
