Input stream with control characters

I am using the HTTPRequest to get data from a MySQL varchar(3000) field.
when I read the data I get the following error message.
Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" (1,670) com.sun.javafx.data.pull.impl.StreamException: Control character is not allowed inside string
The MySQL field does have things like CR's that I need to allow the user to enter.
QUESTION:
How can I capture data with control characters?

The MySQL column type is varchar(3000) basically a string of 3000 characters to my understanding

    My input file is saved in Unicode. It contains letters that cannot be saved in ANSI. I tried UTF-8, but the interactions section showed no output...
    Is this just a problem with Dr.Java? Will i encounter a similar problem when i turn this into a GUI?

    PS: I tried one of the Scanner constructors that takes a charset parameter. That fixed the odd output! However, every Chinese character has been replaced with a question mark. (It was a series of weird characters before i used the constructor with a charset parameter.)

  • File with control characters in Unicode

    Hi All,
    I have a peculiar problem.
    I have to prepare 6 files in SAP to be sent to the Mainframe server(legacy system) which sends the FAX to the clients.Now,these files should contain the hexadecimal characters like '1A', along with a lot of normal data.
    For the rest of the data,I have defined the Standard texts and defined the Text symbols and it is done.
    But at the end of each line,I have to insert the hex 1A.
    This is because the mainframe will understand this hexadecimal and it is mandatory to insert it.
    I have checked the character value of hexadecimal 1A which is 'Substitute'.
    I have no clue as to how to insert this control character along with the rest of the data.
    A quick response will be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Puneet Jhari.

    Hi Vijay,
    I agree that the hexadecimal and char can not be concatenated in ECC.
    But my requirement is, that before this file is sent to the mainframe,it would be formatted using the DCF(Data Composition Facility) format.Once it is opened with DCF,the hex characters should be shown as it is as I have tried to develop them in SAP.
    Say,for ex,
    If I have tried to write a hex value for '1A' in SAP,once it is opened in DCF,it should be represented as the same hex value or the symbol for it and should not be displayed in the char format.
    I doubt that if I convert the hex to char and then transfer,once it is opened at the target system,it would not be represented as a hex but something else,lets say #.
    I hope you are getting what I am trying to explain.
    I know the requirement is peculiar,but this is how it is(Client's demands).....
    If not,then let me know.
    Regards,
    Puneet Jhari.

  • Unable to process EDI Input Message with NewLine Characters

    Hi All,
    I am using the Seeburger adapter and modules to process the Input EDI message. The input message comes with a new line character after every 80 characters. Hence the Seeburger modules throw an error while reading the file. I tried using the /Seeburger/ReplaceString module. In module config, it has 2 parameters - searchString and replaceString. It works for any special characters like "#" or '!' , but does not replace the NewLine character. I used '\n' ,   '\r' ,  '0x0A' ,  '0x0D', '0D0A' and none of them worked. Can anyone please suggest what character needs to be used in the Module Config?
    Thanks,
    Geetha

    I have done it in other way by relacing "~" with new line within UDF. We can try to replace the corresponding values 13 and 10.
    Basically, the code to add next line characters is:
    inputString.append( ( char ) 13 );
    inputString.append( ( char ) 10 );

  • [Solved] (Python3) Ignoring lines with control characters

    Long story short, I log the output of an in-house program with tee. The program displays a progress meter. When I read the file into a list, I end up with lines like:
    >>> temp_file[18]
    ''Write: 1% [> ] 1 MB\x1b[2K\n'
    I can filter these out with:
    for line in temp_file:
    if not '\x1b' in line:
    do_something_with(line)
    This leaves me with exactly what I want, but maybe someone knows of a better way? Thanks.

    To each his own. A string is not a set and I would never ask a question like "Is the set of characters in this string a subset of the set of characters in string.printable?" On the other hand, "Is it true, for any character c in this string, that c is not in string.printable?" seems relatively straightforward. But that's a subjective measure.
    Edit: Take care, since str.isprintable interprets tabs and newlines as non-printable. Maybe do str.expandtabs(1).isprintable().
    Hrm. Yuck. No, in that case I'll fall back to my original version. Disclaimer removed.
    Actually, on second thought, I don't know why I went for any() in the first place, since its complement/counterpart is also provided:
    for line in temp_file:
    if all(c in string.printable for c in line):
    do_something_with(line)

  • How do I 'Find & Replace' with control characters - paragraph, carriage return, tab

    In Pages 4.3 (Pages '09) I could insert special characters into the Find & Replace fields.  It was great.  Excellent way to clean up & recover text from a pdf or html.
    In Pages 5.2 that capability seems to be gone.  When I turn on the special characters [Show Invisibles - shift-cmd-I], I can highlight said invisible, copy it, then paste it into the Find&Replace field.  Nope.  It goes in as a space, and the Find command only finds spaces.  Not the invisible that I was looking for.
    This was a major feature for me, folks.  Much better than Word's approach.  Now it is gone (I fear), and the Find & Replace is worse than Word's.
    How can I recover/attain this feature?

    I have struggled to find this "feature" for a while.
    It CANNOT be that Apple stripped out a core capability of even a basic text editor.
    Apple, a reply here because this is a F%$#$%^ joke if true.

  • Reading an image from input stream

    Hello all,
    I'm familiar with setting up an input stream but I have never actually done it. I'm making a connection to a URL (a JPG image). I would like to read the JPG from the URL using an input stream. With the URL class I was able to open a stream, however, I'm not exactly sure how to read from it.
    I'm aware of the read() method and read(byte[]) methods of inputstream. But how do I actually implement it?
    If I use read(), then bytes come in individually... do I need to combine them at one point? If I read the bytes into an array, how do I determine what size to set the array and how do I convert the byte array into an Image or ImageIcon?
    Please advise.
    R. Alcazar

    Hi,
    See http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.2/docs/guide/2d/api-jpeg/
    and especially JPEGCodec.createJPEGDecoder(java.io.InputStream).
    Anyway, you might not want to do it with InputStream. Instead you could try something like this:
    URLConnection con = // get it somehow
    Image i = (Image) con.getContent(new Class[] {Image.class});
    However, If you still want to use the InputStream, here you go with some pseudo code:
    InputStream in = // get the input stream with JPEG data...
    JPEGImageDecoder dec = JPEGCodec.createJPEGDecoder(in);
    Image i = dec.decodeAsBufferedImage();
    You can get the InputStream from the URLConnection with getInputStream(). However, I don't remember if the InputStream contained also the HTTP (or what ever protocol the URL specifies) headers. If it contains the headers, then you must rip them of before giving the InputStream to the JPEGCodec...
    If this is the case, try calling the URLConnection.getHeaderFields() method before getInputStream. This might not work though.

  • Problem in Controlling Area created with 3 characters long

    Hi:
    I have a "small" problem, perhaps you could help me.
    We have created a new Controlling Area, but it is created only with 3 characters, instead of four. We have been working with no problem until me have to create a Purchase Order with some profiles. They cannot create any PO. If we go to SU53 transaction we got the message in object K_PCA. There is a blank in string Responsibility Area, and the system cannot recognize that. This string concatenate CO Area code (and a blank) and Profit Center, but keeps a blank between them.
    Do you know how to solve it? We cannot delete CO Area because we have many data created in it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards.

    Hi:
    I have to try it, but it does not work. In SU53 I have this message:
    The following authorization object was checked:

    Objeto K_PCA      EC-PCA: Responsibility Area, Profit Centrer
    Área de responsabilidad CO-OM

    ============
    There is a blank PCGLA B0101, and not in PCGLAB0101.
    I need to delete it in master record or add it in authorization object.
    Does anybody how I can change it?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Sending Control-Z to Input Stream

    Hi everyone,
    I'm writing an interface to a command line program, and
    one of it's features is that it will accept "forms" through
    standard input. The default is that notepad will open
    when the command is typed, and you can edit the form
    through there.
    To accept the form through standard input, you have to
    send it the form, and then tell it the form is complete.
    This is done using the CTRL-Z keypress, at least when
    typing the form in with the keyboard.
    I need to do this with Java.
    There is another post which poses the same question at
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=3050
    so I attempted that solution.. and that didn't work.
    I had the system print out the form as it was being written,
    and the form displayed properly, followed by what was
    supposed to be a CTRL-Z character, which appeared
    on screen (DOS Window) as an arrow pointing right.
    Here is the code constructing the form and adding what i've been told is "ctrl-z":
    new StringBuffer(form+System.getProperty("line.separator")).append(CTRL_Z).append(System.getProperty("line.separator")))CTRL_Z is defined as:
    public static final char CTRL_Z = 26;Does anyone have any other suggestions that might be able to help me?
    If you need more information/code provided, I can do so.
    Thanks for any help!
    Kefka.

    You can't actually send anything to an input stream. But let's suppose you have an output stream somewhere that is connected to the standard input of this command line program. Try sending a byte, not a character, that contains 26 to it (yes, ctrl-z is indeed 26). This has a better chance of working than the character idea, because Java is going to translate your character-26 from Unicode to bytes using your system's default encoding. And I can't predict what that might end up as. But it will leave the byte 26 alone and just send it... I hope. Can't guarantee this.

  • XML output file with Control M Characters

    Hi,
    I am using JDOM API 1.0 on Solaris platform.
    Using the XMLOuputter I write the XML data to a file. But the XML file contains Control-M characters at the end of each line..like
    <User>^M
    <Name>Satish</Name>^M
    <id>12567</id>^M
    </User>^M
    File f = new File(path,Constants.USER_XML);
    Document doc = getDocument();
    XMLOutputter out = new XMLOutputter();
    out.setFormat(Format.getPrettyFormat());
    Format outFormat = out.getFormat();
    outFormat.setLineSeparator(System.getProperty("line.separator"));
    outFormat.setIndent(" ");
    try{
    FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(f);
    out.output(doc,fw);
    } catch(IOException iox) {}I am not writing the Control-M characters. Also I am using the default encoding which is UTF-8. So how to avoid the control characters. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Satish

    Those are carriage-return (CR) characters. I don't know anything about the classes you are using but I would suggest you let the software decide what line endings it is going to use (the XML default is line-feed (LF) only) instead of telling it. Just a guess.
    It's also possible that those CRs were in your input document and you are just copying them to the output document. XML parsers are supposed to normalize those characters to only LF but perhaps your parser isn't doing that. Just another guess.

  • Re: Connection Failure: ReadFile on fd=1231 failed with err=64  + JVM_recv in socket input stream read

    Jon,
    I believe that this error is similar to a "connection reset by peer". It is
    a Window specific error. I believe it indicates that something has happened
    on the other end of the socket such that the socket has gone bad.
    I think that this should only occur when people reset their connection
    before the reply is sent. I don't believe that it is indicative of any
    serious problem other than this communication failure caused by the client.
    I've opened an issue to catch and squelch these spurious exceptions rather
    than logging them. For now I think it is safe to ignore them.

    Hi Guys,
    Using weblogic 5.1 (downloaded pretty soon after announcement) on windows

    I have a pretty standard setup - a connection pool (5) to a sqlserver
    (remote) machine.
    A pretty standard multithreaded servlet - grabs a connection, does aselect,
    calls dbkona to dump output, releases connection.
    It runs fine - browser returns result. When I push 'reload' on browser,say
    10 times very quickly, I get the following errors. It is sometimes a
    combination of these:

    Now I can get rid of (1) by switching off native IO!! This also stoppedIO
    exceptions that were being raised by the servlet when it tried to outputto
    the output stream. (2) persists.
    I have changed nothing else in the properties.
    (1) sounds like I may need to up the number of file descriptors open?
    (2) I don't know. Is my server too loaded? I am running on a 600Mhzusing
    64Mb heap for the server with 300Mb swap available...

    java.net.SocketException: ReadFile on fd=2368 failed with err=64
    at weblogic.socket.NTSocketMuxer.initiateIO(Native Method)
    at weblogic.socket.NTSocketMuxer.read(NTSocketMuxer.java, Compiled Code)
    at weblogic.socket.MuxableSocketHTTP.requeue(MuxableSocketHTTP.java,Compiled Code)
    at weblogic.socket.MuxableSocketHTTP.execute(MuxableSocketHTTP.java,Compiled Code)
    at weblogic.kernel.ExecuteThread.run(ExecuteThread.java, Compiled Code)
    I have no idea as to the cause. It's been posted in the archives before -but with
    no particular solution.
    I'm using WLS 5.1 SP11, JDK 1.2.2_007. Win2000.
    Does anybody know the cause/solution?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    I have noticed that applying the service pack helps things quite a bit.
    I no longer get NT muxer errors etc etc. just the "connection reset by
    peer"
    every now and again.
    As I am repeatedly hitting the server from one browser, your 'connection
    going bad' scenario probably
    applies quite well.
    (btw. before the SP, the errors seemed to crop up more just before/during
    a
    GC.)

  • Connection Failure: ReadFile on fd=1231 failed with err=64  + JVM_recv in socket input stream read

    Hi Guys,
    Using weblogic 5.1 (downloaded pretty soon after announcement) on windows
    2000 (yes I know not certified there yet) and using jdk1.2.2-001.
    I have a pretty standard setup - a connection pool (5) to a sqlserver
    (remote) machine.
    A pretty standard multithreaded servlet - grabs a connection, does a select,
    calls dbkona to dump output, releases connection.
    It runs fine - browser returns result. When I push 'reload' on browser, say
    10 times very quickly, I get the following errors. It is sometimes a
    combination of these:
    1- Mon May 08 13:34:41 GMT+00:00 2000:<E> <HTTP> Connection failure
    java.net.SocketException: ReadFile on fd=1912 failed with err=64
    at weblogic.socket.NTSocketMuxer.initiateIO(Native Method)
    at weblogic.socket.NTSocketMuxer.read(NTSocketMuxer.java, Compiled
    Code)
    2- Mon May 08 13:40:42 GMT+00:00 2000:<D> <ListenThread> Problem
    accepting connecti on java.net.SocketException: Connection reset by peer:
    JVM_recv in socket input stream read
    Now I can get rid of (1) by switching off native IO!! This also stopped IO
    exceptions that were being raised by the servlet when it tried to output to
    the output stream. (2) persists.
    I have changed nothing else in the properties.
    (1) sounds like I may need to up the number of file descriptors open?
    (2) I don't know. Is my server too loaded? I am running on a 600Mhz using
    64Mb heap for the server with 300Mb swap available...
    Regards,
    Jon
