Insert hierarchy error on discoverer Administrator (dis51adm.exe)
Every time I try to insert a new hierarchy, discoverer crashes. These are the versions of my installed software:
*Oracle9i Discoverer Administrator - 9.0.2.00.00
*Discoverer Administrator Client - 9.0.2.39.01
*End User Layer Library - 9.0.2.39.01
*End User Layer - 5.0.0.0.0.0
*Oracle 9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Andre
Hi,
1. Discoverer 9.0.2 is desupported
2. You are on the base release 9.0.2.39, you may want to try to be on the terminal release patch (9.0.2.54.10) if you cannot migrate immediately to 10g (10.1.2.0.2)
Here is a reference for you:
Note.237607.1 ALERT: Required and Recommended Patch Levels For All Discoverer Versions
Hope that helps.

Vague error message with Administrator command line
OS: Windows XP
Discoverer Administrator 10.1.2.1

Oracle Database 10.2.0.4.0 64bit
I am trying to export a report from our EUL that is encountering the error "Join "" not found in the EUL. Attempt to open workbook failed". However, when I try to run this through the command line, I get a completely vague and unhelpful error message:
dis51adm.exe /connect euluser/pass@database /export "C:\report_export.xml" /workbook "ReportName" /xmlworkbook
I get the error message "Command failed."
If I run the above command and output a log file, it looks like this:

If the join wasn't found that it will find it using the EUL owner.

I tried going into the control panel/programs /itunes and selected repair which didn't fix it. Any suggestions on restoring the broken shortcut without removing and re-installing the program?

Thank youI think it is some sort of permissions issue preventing the installer from updating the shortcuts. Is your account an administrator of the machine? If it is and you still have the problem then you may need to explicitly use the "Administrator" account for the install.

Creation of a Custom Folder in Oracle Discoverer Administration Edition
Hi
Could anybody help me in solving this problem while creating a Custom Folder in Oracle Discoverer Administration Edition ?
My Requirement is :
I Connect to EUL_US/EUL_US@<HOST_STRING> under Oracle Discoverer Administration Edition.
I selected a Pre-Defined Business Area Eg. General Ledger
There i created a Custom Folder by Name Test Custom Folder
The Query which i used in my Custom Folder is
SELECT NAME FROM GL.GL_JE_BATCHES
When i Used this Query it says Table or view does not exist.
The Folder is getting created but without a Query.
I am not able to preceed further.
Any Help would be appreciated
Regards
Nakul VenkataramanHi Nakul, you may be running into a problem with the sql for your custom folder. For some reason Discoverer Admin will allow you to create a custom folder with sql, but then if you change it and it has any advanced sql, i.e. grouping sets, analytic functions etc., you probably receive an error.
An option is to create a view using the same sql and create a folder from the database using this view.
Hope this helps.

Refresh EUL in Oracle Discoverer Administrator using command line
Hi there! I wonder if there is a way of refreshing the EUL business folders of Discoverer Administrator using a command line, so that it could be done through a batch file process.
Many thanks in advanceWhat do you mean by refreshing the EUL business folders? The definitions of the EUL are updated whenever a workbook/worksheet/business area/hierarchy/ any other object inside the EUL is changed/added/deleted. Also, the contents of your EUL are updated whenever summaries are refreshed (either manually or on a schedule), or when scheduled workbooks run and their contents stored inside the EUL.

Oracle Discoverer Administrator 'OUT OF MEMORY'
Hi ,
I'm trying to include a case statement in the custom folder based on a query.when I include the case statement in the SQL query and click Validate SQL button i get error 'out of memory'.
can anyone plz help me with this.
thanksHi
The Out of Memory is not 100% related to the amount of memory you have on your machine. There is an internal cache that it is working with and this is controlled from within your system registry. These settings can be found in [HKEY_CURRENT_USER]\Software\Oracle\Discoverer 10\Application and they are called MaxVirtualDiskMem and MaxVirtualHeapMem and these are typically set to the amount of memory on your PC or even higher where 512000000 equates to 500 MB. I have rarely seen making a change to these have any impact but you can always try.
As a test, try using the Admin command line interface to do what you want. I have seen exports, as mentioned by Russ, fail using the application but work just fine when called from the command line.
You seem to be saying when you run the query yet in your question you say running in Discoverer Administrator. You cannot run a query in Administrator so are you saying that you get this issue when running the query in Desktop or in Plus? For Desktop you can try altering the MaxVirtualDiskMem and MaxVirtualHeapMem, whereas for Plus these will have to be changed in the pref.txt for the application server.
You can also try increang

Export workbooks not sharded with the oracle Discoverer Administrator
Can anyone tell me how to export workbooks which are not shared with the discoverer administrator.
When I use the command line dis4adm.exe /connect userid/password@db /export destination / workbook "workbookname' it toes only funtion for workbooks shared with the discoverer administrator.
Any advice will be highly appreciated. ThanksHi Marc
The only mechanism to export Discoverer workbooks using the 4.1 Administrator tool is to use the command line.
However, there are severe restrictions on functionality. These are:
- Only the owner of a workbook can export a workbook. Discoverer administrators do not have the power to export end user workbooks, therefore user accounts need to be temporarily granted administration privileges during the process
- There is no mechanism to export “ALL” workbooks for a user account. They have to be named explicitly on the command line
- Workbooks must be exported on a user by user basis because there is no mechanism to export workbooks for multiple users at the same time
Drop me an email because I have a white paper that explains in detail how to export workbooks in 4.1 using the Administrator tool.
I hope this helps
Best wishes

ODBC Administrator odbcad32.exe crashing
Whenever I try to set up a System DSN selecting Oracle ODBC Driver 9.0.1.8.0 it causes the ODBC Administrator odbcad32.exe to crash.
I am running Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.6.0 and Windows XP Professional.
I have tried installing the ODBC driver into a different directory, but that did not help.
I have to use a MS Access front end to connect to the database because that is where all the reports that I need to run were developed.
I am not a technical person, so any help would be appreciated.Hi JMARKS6205-2,
Sorry for my delay.
Based on your description, it seems that you have checked the registry entries. On current situation, I suggest
that you should check again. Just to confirm.
Please open Registry Editor and navigate to the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI
Since installation information for ODBC drivers is stored in this key. Please make sure that the required ODBC
driver file (psqlodbc30a.dll) is in the correct folder as described by the registry keys.
For more details, please refer to the following KB.

Heading level hierarchy errors when topics are in TOC more than once
I have discovered that the hierarchy in the Heading levels in
the Printed Documentation will differ from than in my online help
table of contents hierarchy, and that the problem is due to topics
that are intentionally in the TOC more than once.
For example, in chapter 5 of a particular help system the
hierarchy should be:
Heading 1 < Chapter 5 title from top-level book>
Heading 2 <title of second level book>
Heading 3 <title of topic that appears under second-level
book>*
What I actually get is:
Heading 1 < Chapter title from top-level book>
Heading 2 <title of second level book>
Heading 4 <title of topic that appears under second-level
book>*
* This same topic appeared in an earlier chapter. In that
chapter it was really at a Heading 4 level.
Due to company styles, etc. we use a numbering system at the
headings and in the TOC, so instead of
5
5.1
5.1.1
I erroneously get
5
5.1
5.1.1.1
This type of hierarchy issue appears multiple times in this
particular document (which I inherited by the way.)
Other than restructuring the document to not reuse topics in
different places in the TOC, is there a solution or a workaround
for this problem?
What I am doing so far, is generating the Print Documentation
one chapter at a time. As long as a topic is not reused with the
same chapter, my hierarchy of heading levels is maintained;
otherwise, it is not. Then I can put the chapters back together
after fixing the few places that still have heading level problems.
This however, will be quite cumbersome as this document is
translated into nine other languages.
I am using RoboHelp X5 for Word / Word 2003 for the source
and most of the translations; RoboHelp Asian Edition, Simplified
Chinese / Word 2003 for the Chinese translation. The heading level
hierarchy error occurs in both versions.>> AF: I've commented in sections...
Without Maintain Heading Levels, RH will apply heading levels
to the books and then the topic levels will get bumped down. So a
top level book will be Heading 1 and the Headings in the topic will
get bumped down to 2, 3 and 4 etc. If then you have another book
one level down so that it gets Heading 2 applied, the same topic
but under the level two book would then get 3, 4 and 5 applied.
That is not the original problem but hopefully we are agreed
that is how things work on that.
>> Yes - that is the expected behavior. When it didn't
happen as expected, that's what led me to the discovery of the
cause of the problem (topic reuse).
Your problem was that firstly Heading 3 got bumped to Heading
4 if the same topic was inserted into the TOC twice. I assume it
was OK in the first instance, or is it that when you add it twice
it goes wrong everywhere?
>> Your assumption is correct. First occurrence is
correct. Second, third, and fourth (yes - there is one topic that
is used 4 times! ) are not correct based on TOC hierarchy.
On the numbering, nothing surprises me. If you look at my
site you will see that for RH HTML, i gave up on getting it right.
I have had many queries on this and more than a few people have
indicated they will work on the problem and get it working. I'm
still waiting. There are many posts about outline numbering
problems. Has anyone got it working satisfactorily?
>> I don't really have numbering problems. The
numbering is following the RoboHelp-generated hierarchy and the
.dot template that I apply. It's just that the RH-generated
hierarchy and its heading levels don't correspond to the "real"
hierarchy because of the reuse issue.
I have seen various Word gurus maintain that numbering has
not worked entirely satisfactorily since Word 2! Also enough posts
to convince me this is a Word issue, not a RH issue.
If you want to create a new project and knock something up
that demonstrates this problem, by all means zip it up and send it.
I'll assume it will be a small project and zip to less than 5mb. If
more, contact me first.
>> Unless you have RoboHelp X3 Asian Edition,
Simplified Chinese, there is really no need. I plan to either avoid
the reuse issue in the source, or build the print doc in sections
which is easy enough in RoboHelp X5 for the non-Chinese languages.
It is in the older Asian edition where the problems are compounded
by the omitted reuse topics. If you do have RoboHelp X3 Asian
Edition, Simplified Chinese and want to experiment, I can send you
a cut-down version of the project. Don't feel obligated though;
unless you can read Chinese (I can't) it is very tedious to work
with. -
Importing entire EUL using Discoverer Administrator 10g
I have exported an entire EUL from a dev instance into .eex file using Discoverer Admin(Which took around 4hrs), I would like to import the entire EUL in another instance using the import funcitonality of the admin. But the process ended in a connection time out error after running for 99%(took 5hrs) and nothing got imported. The second instance already has another EUL, I want this imported EUL to be a seperate EUL.
Is there any other way to run the import from the Linux machine where the disco is installed.
Thanks,
SenthilHi,
No, you cannot run Discoverer Administrator on Linux, it is a windows program. You could try using the eulapi java utility to import the .eex file.
You probably got this error because Disco Administrator ran out of memory on the windows PC. You could try increasing the PC memory.

Discoverer Administration Problem
Hi Everyone,
I am wondering whether we can change the color/ font of items with in a folder in a Business Area using Discoverer Administrative tool or Is there any way to differentiate the items with in a folder into sub-categories?
Please Help me in this regards.
Thanks..
VenuHi Venu
There is no way to use different fonts or colors within the Admin tool. My recommended approach, and one that we teach in training, is to use what we call Item Separators. These are basically items that group other items below them.
Item separators are used to break up and group sets of items together. These help the users to understand about the different data sets that are in our folders. We can also use the Description field of these items to provide more generic help about how to use the folder.
To insert an item separator, use this workflow:
1. Right-click on the name of the folder into which you want to insert an item separator.
2. From the pop-up menu, select New Item - Discoverer opens the New Calculation dialog box.
3. Give the item a Name such as: Main Section
4. In Calculation use NULL.
5. Click OK to complete the calculation.
6. Right-click on the item and rename it like this: **** M a i n S e c t i o n ****
7. Move the item to its correct position.
Note: we use double-spacing between the letters in a word, and triple-spacing between words.
This is a trick from mainframe days when there were no fonts or colors. Using double or triple-spacing fools the eye of the user into thinking that a bigger font has been used. Try it for yourself. You will be amazed at the effect and will wonder why you never did this before.
By the way, a similar technique can be used for grouping folders. A separator folder is really an empty folder that is being used to group sets of folders together. Users cannot select anything from these folders, but that is exactly what we want.
To create a separator folder separator, use the following workflow:
1. Right-click on the name of the business area into which you want to insert a separator folder separator.
2. From the pop-up menu, select New Folder. Discoverer now adds a new folder, called NewFolder1, to the bottom of the list of folders. The identifier for this new folder will also be NEWFOLDER1, all in upper case.
3. Using the Folder Properties dialog box, give the folder a new name and a new identifier. Use something like *** P O M e t r i c s *** for the name and PO_METRICS for the identifier. (make sure the identifier is in uppercase with no spaces
4. Move the separator folder to its new position.
By the way, if you have a copy of my Oracle Discoverer 10g Handbook you will find these tips on pages 642 and 645 complete with illustrations.
I hope this helps

We have two users that have been using Creative Cloud for almost a year. Recently, sometime in the last 4ish weeks, the users can no longer run Creative Cloud apps. (Yes, our subscription is paid.) Error simply says administrator access is required to install. The apps have already been installed. The users cannot run them unless they are in the local admin group.Using "Run as admin" does not work. It gives the same error.
I have opened a case with adobe support and was basically told to suck it up and put the users in the admin group. Actually, what was said was that it is "mandated that the users have administrative rights".
There are a couple of things wrong with this. It was working for both users until recently - a recent required creative cloud update. The users have never been local admins yet the apps were working (poorly, but working).
We are in an enterprise environment and users simply do not have administrative rights on the computers.
I have changed permissions on all adobe folders, granting users or authenticated users modify or full control rights, did the same in whatever Adobe registry HKLM keys I could find. Nothing has allowed the users to run the apps - unless they are put in the local admin group.
Someone has to have a fix for this. Adobe apps have proved to have far too many vunerabilities to even entertain the idea of elevating user rights. I can't imagine that enterprise environments are allowing this.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.Jeff,
Thank you for your response. The users in question are "standard" domain users. We do not reduce users permissions below the standard level.
The apps do not load with their current standard user permissions.
The thing that makes this odd, is that up until recently they did this issue with cloud apps. The only way I can make it work for them now is to put them in the local administrator group on their pc's - which is not going to happen.
This is what they now see. As I said before, this was not a problem up until recently they would see all their available apps. If I put them in the local admin group the apps are listed without having to install. Everything is there, just not accessible to the user. -

1. In Add/Remove Programs I deleted all Apple products (iTunes, QuickTime, Safari, Bonjour, etc.)
2. I then check C:\Program Files\ and made sure all folders were deleted (QuickTime, etc.)
3. I then ran a Registry Cleaner program to make sure all entries from Apple products were removed.
4. I then rebooted my PC
5. I then downloaded iTunes8.0.2 from here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ipod_itunes/itunes802forwindows.html
6. After it installed it said it could use my iTunes library file because it was created with a newer version. So I re-created my library by following these steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
It took some time but iTunes is now back up and running. And I have all my playlists, etc. I haven't tried to sync anything yet. I'm just thrilled to have my iTunes back!
