Insert text box

My text box option is grayed out both in the toolbox options and within the "insert" menu. What am I doing/not doing? I click outside the document, click on margin mark, what's up??

It could be a corrupt preference file
Trash the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist which you find in "your home folder" > Library > Preferences
Start Pages again
If it doesn't work create a new account and open Pages from that account

I can't use all the annotate actions in Preview. It's web screen shot saved as a PDF. No highlight, underline, or strikethough text but I can insert text, boxes, notes. On other forums this problem was solved by saving as a PDF which I have done. Any other solutions?

I don't think PDF is the way to do it, but if it was you'd need something like Adobe Acrobat Professional.

As far as Text changes, I thing the actual Source would maybe be the way to go, but you could always turn the PDF into a jpg or such, then use a Graphics program to poit out things...

Pages 5.1: Insert MathType equation into text box?

How do I insert a MathType equation into a text box in Pages 5.1? This was no problem at all in '09!

As said by Mr.Mathtype we can enter and editable MathType equation with text into a Pages 5.1 text box. My procedure tried a few minutes ago is :
Inserting a MathType equation in a text box of Pages 5.1
1) Don’t forget to open MathType before pages 5.1.
2) In Pages : Menu Insert > Text box > select it > Inspector > Arrange > Object Placement > Stay on Page > do other settings in the Inspector.
3) Menu Insert > Equation MathType…
4) In MathType : type your equation > click the red round button of the window to close it > the equation is now in the Pages window.
5) In Pages : select the equation > Inspector > Arrange > Object Placement > Stay on page > do other settings in the Inspector ; you may change size and move the equation without using the Inspector.
6) Type your text in the text box and move the equation as desired.
7) Select equation and text box > Menu Arrange > Group : now equation and text box are joined together, the whole thing can be moved and use the Inspector settings.
The equation can be edited using the same way as for an equation in the text.

How to get rid of the main text box in the back of the page AND move things

I usually work in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, but am creating two newsletter templates in Pages for a colleague, since it will be easier for her. But, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get rid of the main text box in the back of the page that is driving me crazy. I just want a nice blank page that I can do whatever I want with. AND, I can't figure out how to select things so that I can move them, like shapes and text boxes. Some things seem to move fine, then other things just sit there. I am at the end of my rope!!!

Hi, Dylan. Welcome to Discussions.
If you're referring to the area where you just start typing when you open a new blank document, you can't get rid of it. But you also don't have to use it. You can insert text boxes and size and position them as you desire. Just be sure they're defined as Fixed on Page. When one is full and you want to continue it to another page (or to the side), click in the blank blue box on the lower right side of the text box. That will create another box and your overflow text will flow into it. Then position it where needed.
Also, you can create a text box the width of the page and then set it for 2 or more columns.
When you want to send something to the back and you may want to access it again later, just use the send backward command. If you send it all the way to the back, it will be behind the main text layer (where it will be safe from acvcidental movement) but you will have to click outside the work area and then drag the pointer to the object to select it.

Inserting text box into an existing .pdf opened in Acrobat Pro ver. 6.0
Need to change font size to smallest. Right-clicking on field to open 'properties', clicking on 'Appearance' tab, BUT there is no choice for 'font'.
HOW DO I...change the font size in a text box?
HOW DO I...set the default to that font/size/color/border/fill?

You need to have the Properties Bar open (Ctrl + E), double-click on the text so you can select some of it, and you should see where you can specify the various font properties.

How do I add color to a text box border in Pages app?

Can't find it anywhere. And don't have time to keep looking. Wondering if you can do this in Pages (in Word, you insert text box, then under Format you get in drop down menu "Borders and Shading" and then you can add color just to the border).
Can you do this in Pages app? I've looked everywhere.

Text Box in Header Won't Print

I'm putting together an "Oscars Ballot Form", so (naturally!) the header has:

Sunday, February 24, 2008
And the envelope, please..."
in the centre, a .jpg of the little golden guy himself on the right, and a textbox on the left which includes the text:
"<First Name> (This is a "merge field")
has achieved a colossal score of:
—————/24"
BUT!!! When I print this, the text box doesn't appear in the print-out. (The "Golden Guy" .jpg prints fine!) If I go to preview and save it as a .pdf file, the text-box shows up on screen, but still doesn't show up when I print the .pdf version!!!
If it's any help... Yes, I have selected the problematic text-box to cause "Wrap Left": That's the only way I know of to have it sit nicely beside the three-line text that's in the centre of the header.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. This NE*V*ER used to happen when I did the same ballots on Appleworks!!! (Yes, I know I could go back to Appleworks, but I want to see it all happen on Pages, which I did, after all, pay for!)

Thank you for the response! This now gets curiouser and curiouser... The <First Name> is a recipient field in the text box, *IN the Header*, and now works fine. (It's merging with a group in Apple Address Book... friends who might be expected to watch the Academy Awards show if it actually takes place this year.) So where you say:

We may put a sender field in the header
but the recipient fields must be in the body of the document, not in headers"
this doesn't actually seem to be the case. Perhaps inserting text-boxes (with recipient fields) into headers is a work-around for this, although why on earth recipient fields wouldn't be allowed in headers I have NO idea!!! Possibly the issue has now been sorted out in "Pages" but the manual hasn't been up-dated to reflect that.
(I did, by the way, check out the trial version before purchase, but had no idea that this problem would occur. Alas, I have neither the skills nor the time to carry out a complete evaluation of Pages '08!)

No more text boxes in headers?

I have several templates created in iWork 09 which have text boxes in the header or footer of the document. When I open them in Pages 5.0, the text boxes are completely missing, and I don't even get an alert that this element could not get translated. Is this a bug in the backwards compatibility of Pages, or has Apple devised a new way to insert text boxes in headers or footers? I can't seem to make it work, even in a new document.

It is a stripped Pages version. Use your old Pages 09. You have it i the application folder > iWork.
Only use the new one for simpler documents you need to save in the cloud. Be causes about which version you are using though.

I've gotten a little further on this. The dynamic select is
working fine. It's the "a href" code that isn't. I'm wondering if

How do I let a inserted picture flow over the other text boxes

I am creating a poster. I have a text box on top and one on the bottom. I want to insert a picture in the middle and want the picture to kind of flow around the other two text boxes without blacking out the two text boxes. Also, how can I curve the text boxes to a slight curve.

Can a TOC be inserted into a text box in Pages?

Good evening. I am part way into creating a first document in Pages. Things are going well, for the most part, though I admit there is a learning curve here.
One problem I am encountering is getting a Table of Contents (TOC) to generate inside a text box. There is a specific effect I am trying to create that depends upon having that text box surrounding the TOC. Is it possible to generate the TOC within the text box?
Alternatively, if it is not possible, is there a way to mimic a floating text box with embedded TOC in Pages using whatever standard method exists? I have tried using the plain old "Insert table of contents" menu item and the results are plain and ugly. Moreover, I don't seem to have much control over placement of the TOC, though I see how I can change some of the formatting.
Any and all feedback is appreciated.

ps: I am new to Macs in general, though I have extensive experience on Windows OS. I have a brand new Macbook Pro with Mtn Lion upgrade, and newly purchased Pages '09 software.

I am deeply familiar with Word, myself, but wanted to try a new challenge. Pages has been highly recommended to me as a tool that can produce some quite beautiful documents. Re-doing my CV from its current, fairly conventional format to something much more graphic seemed like a nice creative outlet.

How to insert text in smartform boxes

This is regarding about smartform box.
I have created one template. pls find below for complete template for your ref.
Total template has 5 lines names like C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6 and C7.
To fulfill client req, again I have devided First line "C1" and Second line "C2" into 5 boxes.
       Third line -- no boxes.
      Fourth line -- 3 boxes
      Fifth    line -- 3 boxes
      Sixth   line -- no boxes
      Seventh line -- no boxes
Now I want to assign text for each boxes in the C1 and C2 lines.
In C1 line
first box-- po date
second box - text
like that I have to pass the text in the corresponding boxes.
I don't find any option in the right click.
I am new to the smartforms.
Could you pls help me is there any way to insert text in the boxes.
This is very urgent.

Create the text editors as many as you want , these should be assigned to each box in template,
When u double click on text on the right side uder the template window
1-Output option tab-->at the bottom , you can see output structure, there you need to specify the line number and column number.
Ex:
template have 2 rows and 2 columns each row
text1 --- row =1 column =1
text2---- row =1 column =2
text3--- row =2 column =1
text4---- row =2 column =2

File error for improperly inserted or defective desk when using Word with text boxes PLEASE HELP!

When I have a Word document opened that contains around 10 text boxes, I get..."A file error has occurred. Check your network connections or make sure the disk is properly inserted and not defective" causing the program to either quit automatically or freeze and require me to manually shut my computer down. This will occur about every 15 minutes and only when I am on a document with numerous text boxes. Also, I do copy and paste the text boxes from file to file and change the text accordingly.
Operating System - Mac OSX 10.8.5
Microsoft Word 2011 - Version 14.4.5
File sizes - around 190 KB
I have turned off track changes and smart cut and paste options, checked for duplicate fonts (none), verified both the Macintosh HD and Apple HDD Media disks (both said the disks were fine so I did not repair either). My husband mentioned something about allocating the working memory space of Word but not sure how that is done (and he is on Team PC ). PLEASE HELP!!!

How do I insert additional pages inside a footnoted document with accompanying text boxes and still keep pages below syncronized?

Is there a way to insert additional pages into a lengthy document containing continuous footnotes at the bottom of each page and accompanying text boxes on most pages without losing the syncronization of text and text box information on the pages below?

Footnotes do not work for text in textboxes, and you can keep on adding text after existing text so I am not sure what you are asking for.
