Inserting a Title caption

I have successfully built a custom XMP panel for Bridge and Photoshop and now want to refine the visual style of the File Info panel.  How do I insert a title for a group of fields below a line separator?  For example, inserting "PROJECT STAFFING" above a group of five project staffing fields.  I would like the title to display flush left.  What is the code to make that happen?
Any help is appreciated.  Howard

Create the title, close the title window (it saves automatically because you already named it when you created it), find the title in the Project Panel and drag it to wherever you want it.
But I agree with Ann. Spend a little time with the tutorial and it will answer so many questions and get you started down the right path.

  • Using Title/Caption In Metadata...

While I love the develop module in LR I would have to say I am finding the library module most difficult to figure out. Presently I am trying to decide the best way to identify images upon import. For instance, I do a great deal of boat photography and would like to label images with the name of the boat upon import. In the metadata panel there is both a Title and Caption entry line and I would guess that the Title line is the best spot to insert the boat name. At the same time it's not at all clear to me what sort of information is meant by the term Caption. Which of the two spots would be best for entering the boat name or other identifying text. Also, if I had a series of shots of the same boat is there a way for me to enter the name once and have it applied to all the selected images.
In the Mom/Pop iPhoto all one had to do is enter the boat name in the comments panel. Is there a simple straight forward equivelent in LR3?
    Thanks!

The short answer: I recommend putting the boat name in Caption, not Title.
A longer answer: Industry standards define the use of Title and Caption reasonably precisely, but many tools, communities, and workflows interpret them differently. If you anticipate sharing your photos with others, you might scope out which tools will be used to access the metadata of the photos and how they handle the Title and Caption fields.  Take some sample photos, set their Title and Caption in LR, do Save Metadata To File, and then view the file in the other tools.
The IPTC industry standards define Title, Caption/Description, and Headline as:
Title: A shorthand reference for the digital image. Title provides a short human readable name which can be a text and/or numeric reference. It is not the same as Headline. Enter a short verbal and human readable name for the image, this may be the file name. Many use the Title field to store the filename of the image, though the field may be used in many ways. Formal identifiers are provided by the Digital Image Id, or the Registry Entry property of the IPTC Extension.
Caption (Description): A textual description, including captions, of the image. Enter a "caption" describing the who, what, and why of what is happening in this image, this might include names of people, and/or their role in the action that is taking place within the image.
Headline: A brief synopsis of the caption. Headline is not the same as Title. Enter a brief publishable synopsis or summary of the contents of the image
Those standards were originally defined years ago for professional press photographers and later expanded to encompass many different uses.   But for better or worse, there exist many tools, communities, and workflows that use those fields in ways different than prescribed by the standards.
For example, when you upload a photo to Flickr, it will populate its Title field from the photo's Title if it exists, otherwise it uses the filename.   But many (perhaps most) Flickr users use its Title field as a short caption (e.g. like a Headline), and Flickr's design encourages that.
As another example, Windows Live Photo Gallery will show as its "Caption" the metadata Title if it exists, otherwise the metadata Caption/Description. When you change its "Caption" field, it will write it into both the metadata Title and metadata Caption/Description fields.
So depending on the intended audience and tool set of your photos, you may choose to adjust your use of Title and Caption to better fit in with their way of doing things.

  • How do I insert a title in the middle of a a clip?

Hi! I am new to iMovie - I have figured out how to put a title at the start of a clip but how do I insert a 'title' in the middle of a clip - I guess like a new chapter heading - I want it on a background/title graphic like the ones you select  rather then as text over the top of the video?
Hope that makes sense .... many thanks
    Rhonda

    Hi again Rhonda,
This article from iMovie Help will give you a bit more information on splitting clips:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/index.html#mov3a61cda3
You can access Help by clicking on Help in iMovie's menu, then select iMovie Help. In the window that opens, firstly click on the Get Started tab, then on the Browse Help tab when you are ready for more detailed instructions. Be sure to view the video tutorials, where available.

  • Ampersand in Title/Caption for Web Galleries

You probably all know this already, but I didn't...
I've been getting to grips with the
Sean's tip for formatting captions in web galleries, including
Matthew's Slimbox gallery. As you'll see in the thread linked above, I had some trouble initially using it with Slimbox, but I thought I'd got to grips with it until...
A title for one of my pictures was "Beer & Blues". By that I mean the Title field in the Library module, as distinct from the Title field in the Web Module.
In Flash galleries it works just fine.
In the LR HTML (and Slimbox) galleries using an & in the image title metadata field can cause a variety of symptoms including:
    - just displaying a blank background and never getting round to rendering the gallery when Web module is selected
    - replacing "Custom Settings" next to the Title/Caption radio buttons in the Web module with "Edit...", consuming 100% CPU, displaying the rainbow spinning beach ball of death, and taking several minutes to return
    - apparently working but obstinately refusing to acknowledge any edits made
There appears to be some interaction between this behaviour and using the <ag:formatted> technique, but I'm struggling to pin it down.
All of these symptoms disappear by using either "and" or "&amp;" in place of "&".
    LR 1.2 on OSX 10.4.10

    Sean,
I'm sure you're right and that's what's happening. I have no excuse for not realising although I did track it down by a process of elimination.
    Anyway I know

  • IMovie crashing when trying to insert a title

    Hi, everybody!
When I am doing a project, if I click the button T (of title), it crashes. The other buttons work properly. I need to insert a title but it is not possible! How can I solve this problem? It is urgent!
    Thank you!!!

Sorry, but my telepathy skills aren't up to par and my crystal ball appears to be out of service, so I'm unable to deduce the version of Captivate you may be using.
I do recall an older version of Captivate having an issue such as what you are reporting. But nothing in recent versions. Then again, every passing day seems to reveal oddness, so who knows?

  • Printing pictures with titles / captions

I want to print a series of pictures, each with a title / caption underneath. I'm happy to fill in some metadata to achieve this. Using a contact sheet would be ideal, and I know I can select some metadata to be printed underneath each picture. However I can't seem to find a way to only have the metadata without having to have the metadata title as well (eg 'Caption: A walk in the woods', when all I want is 'A walk in the woods')
    Can anyone help?

So, presumably I have to do this by creating my own contact sheet as a master page in a book, containing photos and linked metadata boxes. OK. Unfortunately, when I do this I don't seem to be able to find any way of choosing my own font style for such master page linked metadata boxes. Aperture offers a selection, but if I go for anything else my linked metadata boxes become unlinked. (I realise I could alter each box individually on the actual pages, but .....)
Am I missing something, or is it simply not possible to print photos with a caption in a chosen font style in any kind of automated way?

  • Inserting section title on each page

Is there a way to insert the title of the section automitacally at top (or bottom) of each page?
When I insert "section title," it actually inserts the "book title," from the document section of the inspector.
    Thanks.
    b

I'm using my own, simple template. I've created a template for all sections, and a template for the pages in each section, to which I've attached the name of that section in the header.
The odd thing is that if I go into the "book" section and pick a page template on which I've put a text box as a header, I can double-click the textbox and I'm given an option to "insert section title and/or number." That would suggest that I can have the section name in the header of each page in the section, but somehow I've not made the correct link, and all I get when I click "insert section name" is the name of the book.
For now, I'm not going into this further: Either I really don't understand the method behind the organization of these templates, or there the method isn't worked out. I'm sure I've missed something, but can't spend the time figuring it out, so I've done it manually. More digging around is just taking time away from me and also bothering helpful people like you.
Thanks very much for the input.

  • Needed:  variable weblinks in flash web gallery title & caption fields

I know that one can put a fixed URL as custom text into a LR flash web gallery title or caption fields and simply click on that field in a gallery and go to that website. However, that URL is fixed and shows up for all images in the gallery. I would like the ability to have that URL vary by image. That is, I want to be able to setup custom text for a title or caption gallery field that inserts an image's certain metadata value(s) within a URL string. E.g., have LR web gallery custom text of the form:
result in the browser going to URL held in the current image's title metadata.
This almost works now (LR v1.4) ... Such a custom text title displays correctly. And if I left click on it and choose "copy link", the correct URL is in fact there. Unfortunately a right click doesn't take me there as it would if the custom text was a constant URL string, instead of having one or more embedded image metadata tokens.

whoops, I didn't know that my post's example custom text string would be interpreted as a hyperlink :>) Here's the example text without the enclosing "a brackets".
    href="{title}">click here for foobar

E.g., be able to enter for these LR Flash web gallery fields custom text of the form:
    #A href="{title}">click here for foobar#click here for foobar#/A#
where "#" = enclosing html brackets
and where {title} is an image's LR title metadata (e.g., "http://www.foobar.com")
Left clicking on such a custom field should take the browser to webpage whose URL is held in the current image's title metadata.
This almost works now (LR v1.4) ... Such a custom text title displays correctly (i.e., just an underlined "click here for foobar"). And if I right click on it and choose "copy link", the correct URL from that image's metadata is in fact there. Unfortunately a left click just doesn't take the browser there.
This capability would be useful for providing image info which either won't fit (e.g., extended caption info) or is technically not easy to place (e.g., a dynamic *.mov pano view) on an image's web gallery page.

Just a comment about the web link in general -- Make sure your URL link actually works in the live /internet world. I have found that it doesn't. It looks great on your computer but when you actually build the web gallery, the link doesn't go anywhere.

  • How to add title/caption to each image in Bridge web gallery

    Hi,
I am creating a web gallery within Bridge and I want to add a title and caption to each image in my web gallery. How do I do that? The only thing I see is the Site Info. section and that adds a title and caption to the entire web gallery (including each image) and I want different titles and captions for each image. There must be a simple way to do this I just haven't figured it out yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
    ashmic19

Thanks Curt Y for your help. The thing is I have to use only Bridge. I looked up this problem on http://www.experts-exchange.com/ and they said it was not possible to add titles and captions for individual images (slides) in a web gallery in Bridge. They seemed to imply that this was overlooked. So I input what I could based on what was provided by Bridge and turned it in. Thanks to all who viewed and replied to this post. I appreciate it.

  • How to haveour own titles/captions in selection screen & in column headings

    we have SAP B1 2005 A, MS SQL 2005
though i am new to MSSQL/T-SQL programming, purely through lot of trials & errors i have learnt & managed to develop many reports/queries !
but, i am facing some problems : how to have our own captions/title for the options in selection screen & aso in reports/queries column headings.
    e.g. :
for Customer Aging analysis, i would like to accept a set of 3 parameters (aging days) from the user. where the user may enter the values 30, 60 & 90 OR any other values.
i have the following codes for this purpose (considering my question's (over) size, only small portions of my program are given below)
    declare @mdue1 int,
               @mdue2 int,
                @mdue3 int
    set @mdue1 = [%1]
    set @mdue2 = [%2]
    set @mdue3 = [%3]
but, in the selection screen, the system displays "%1 Debit Amount   Greater than" as the caption & 0.00 as the default value. the same is the case for the other two parameters [%2] & [%3] also.
i tried defining the variable @mdue1 as smallint & also tinyint, but the result is the same.
how to have our own captions/title for the options in selection screen instead of the ones displayed by t-sql based on our SELECT statement.
how to have our own column headings, dynamically defined/coined using variables instead of hard coded columns headings (within quotes).
e.g. in the select statement, instead of defining a column as '<= 30 Days' = T0.due_1
i would like to get the number of days from the user, who may enter 30 or 40 or whatever.
i would like to display the value that the user entered in the column heading using a variable say @mcol1
    declare @mcol1 varchar(10)
    set @mcol1 = '<= 'convert(varchar(10), @mdue1)' Days'
    SELECT T0.CardCode,@mcol1 = T0.due_1 from #CustAging T0
but, this ends up in error.
i have already searched the net for ebooks, articles, etc. for a solution to this problem, but till now, i could not find any addressing these problems.
i have just registered in this forum with a hope to get a solution. thanks a lot in advance.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Raghu Iyer
    Place : Vapi, Gujarat, India

    thanks a lot, lstvan.
i think, it i a good "trick" worth trying out.
well, i will now mark this question as answered, but still, if anyone has a direct solution "problem", please do share with us.
i am able to write queries (in fact, full fledged programs) in T-SQL & getting the desired output and for such a trivial thing i do not want to go for an add-on SDK module. but, considering the limitations of T-SQL and the complex requirements of real business world, i think, we have to go the .net way only.
regarding add-ons, i heard that add-ons will slow down SAP B1. is it true ?
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Titles/Captions in Web Gallery

I have Lightroom 1 on a PC.I am producing Web galleries but cannot work out how to title each photo in the gallery with a different name. I have tried typing in, in both titles and captions, but in each case, the first name I type in is applied to every photo in the gallery. If I switch to the second image in the gallery and type in a second title, it again is applied to all of the images in the gallery.
    I would appreciate some help.
    Thanks

Different titles and captions for each image need to be entered in the metadata panel in the Library module. Sounds like you are trying to edit the custom field in the Web module, or you likely have multiple images selected in the Library module.
