Inserting images stored as BLOB in table to Oracle Report(10G)

We have some oracle reports(rdf) built in Oracle 10g. Now we are planning to update these reports to include images stored as pdf's on file system. We have loaded these pdf's as blob into tables. Is there a way to include these image/s into the reports.
Thx.

Easy answer: No, this is not possible. You can't show a PDF inside your report.
Since you are talking about just images, why do you even store these images as PDF? Why not as JPG or PNG (if you need best image-quality)?
Using a normal image in a report would be no problem at all.
Complex answer: Yes, this could be possible with an enormous effort.
You could write yourself a Java-Bean which reads the BLOB, uses something like "iText" to convert the PDF to a normal image, and then display this image.
I want to recommend to not use this solution since it introduces a really big complexity into you report where the usual solution of just storing images as images and not PDFs would give you a better result (and way better performance).

  • Inserting Image into a BLOB column in Oracle9i

    Hi,
    I am unable to insert image into a BLOB column. I am using Forms 6i REL 2 and Oracle 9i. But I could do it on Oracle 8i with same Forms version.
    Same thing is true for CLOB in 9i.
    Would you please try with this code?
    TABLE
    Create table x
    (Id number,
    Name CLOB,
    Pict BLOB);
    WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigge
    declare
         x varchar2(265);
    begin
         x := get_file_name;
         read_image_file (x, 'GIF', 'picture.pict');
    end;
    Take care,
    Tarek

    Forms 9i and Oracle 9i work fine together for this case.

  • Problem in displaying images stored in Blob variable

    Hi all,
    I have a requirement where i need to retrieve the image stored in Blob variable in DB and display the image in JSP page.
    I have written the below code to achieve this, it works fine
    In JSP, I am calling a action in the <img tag
    <img src='downloadPhoto.page?method=getPhotoInBytes&accessoryModelPictures.id.accessoryNumber=${photo.id.accessoryNumber}/> In my controller class
    InputStream inputStream=accessoryPicturesLOB.getPicture().getBinaryStream();
    byte[] theBytes = new byte[inputStream.available()];
    inputStream.read(theBytes);
    response.setContentType("image/jpg");
    response.getOutputStream().write(theBytes);But the problem is, *if i right click on the image and select save picture as option i get a error saying "The system cannot find the specified file "*
    Can you please tell me what is wrong in my approach/code
    Is there any better approach to display image that is store in Blob variable ?
    Please help on this.
    Thanks in advance.

    You need at least to set the filename in the content disposition header.

    Look in the Reports Builder Help:
    If you want to use lexical references in your SELECT clause, you should create a separate lexical reference for each column you will substitute. In addition, you should assign an alias to each lexical reference.
    Does adding the column alias solve the problem?

  • AS/400 Tables in oracle reports

    Hello,
    Could anyone help me out whether we can use AS/400 database's tables in oracle reports??
    Thanks.

    As far as I know Oracle has a possibility to communicate with a AS400 database. More info can be found here: http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/html/A97615_01/title.htm

  • Radio Button group with images stored as BLOB files in database

    Hey all!
    I have radio button group, my idea is that radio button's LOV must display images, I mean BLOB files stored in a table.
    How can I do this?

    Hello Ken,
    I asked similar question in the past, and I believe the answer is still the same.
    Select List as an option of a Radio Group
    In your case, I think you can use a select list with added functionality, like "Select List with Branch to Page" or "Select list with Submit", or you can just attach an onChange event (JavaScript) to each select list. The effect should be similar to a radio group – as soon as the user select one item from any of the select lists, you can fire some action, based on the select list value.
    Hope this can help,
    Arie.

  • Image stored in BLOB column crashes report's engine

    Hi,
    I have a report where I display logos stored in a BLOB column on the DB.
    The report is generated as RTF.
    When images have sizes of 624x168 or 423x324 everything is OK. One image, 1221x224, is crashig the report with a dr. Watson error.
    Any idea why?
    The size of the "bad" image file is 38K, and the "good" ones are about 300K.

    "ST_ID",
    "FIRST_NAME",
    "LAST_NAME",
    "FFIRST_NAME",

    Images are displayed in column but they have different sizes.Stick to declarative BLOB images as above. They can be resized in reports using CSS. Add a style sheet in the page Inline CSS property:
    td[headers="IMAGE"] img {
      display: block;
      width: 75px;
      border: 1px solid #999;
      padding: 6px;
      background: #f6f6f6;
    }where the <tt>IMAGE</tt> value in the attribute selector is the table header ID of the image column. Setting only one dimension (in this case the width) scales the image with the correct aspect ratio. (The border, padding and background properties are just eye candy...)
    However, if the original images are large then scaling them in the browser this way is a huge waste of bandwidth and produces poorer quality images than creating proper scaled down versions using image tools. Downloading megapixel images and then reducing them to thumbnail size results in pointlessly pushing millions of bytes that will never be seen.
    For improved performance and image quality, and where you require image-specific scaling the best approach is to use the database ORDImage object to produce thumbnail and preview versions automatically. Note that this is not possible in Oracle XE as Multimedia is not included

  • Display images stored in BLOB in html pages via JSP

    Hello,
    My images are stored in BLOB column of other base than portal.
    in JSP i have to display them in html pages.
    anybody have already did the same thing ?

    teggvb6,
    I believe you should be able to get it to work by doing the grants to the user specified in the DAD (i.e. the user that is logging into Oracle) rather than PUBLIC (someone else may correct me on this?).
    If you're concerned that the procedure could be called by others then I guess you could do some sanity checking within the procedure, for example checking v('APP_USER') or maybe v('SESSION') or perhaps do something clear with the REFERER http header? I haven't thought this through yet but I'm pretty sure you should be able to tie it down a bit more.

  • Images stored in BLOB, any good????

    We are planning on storing images in a Blob data type, any issues with using blobs?
    We will only be storing Tif images (<2 megs each). Anybody have good or bad experience using the Blob data type.
    How easy is it to manipulate the images once they are inside Oracle in a Blob data type. Let say that we plan on moving all the images that are in Oracle to a document imaging tool in about a year, will this be easy to do.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Storing an Excel File in the Oracle Table through Oracle Form (10g)

    Hi,
    We have the below requirement in the Oracle Forms (10g).
    Database: 11g
    Application: R12
    We need to provide an upload functionality to the user, so that he can upload an excel file into the form (from the local system), this is achived.
    Now what we need to do is that we need to capture the path of the document (in the local system) and we need to store the document in a Oracle table.
    Next we need to validate the records that are being loaded and the error records should be written into one more file and that file also we need to store in an Oracle table, this is because, i need to query this error file from the table later and need to send to the user as an e-mail.
    Basically i started off with the below code just for the POC. but iam facing the error. Please help. I did not put this code in my form.

    When you want to process the file, them it depends on the format. "Excel file" is a term that is used for a variety of file formats, mostly simple CSV, binary (true) XLS and XLSX.
    So to get help you have to give us more information. Since the file is already in the db you might get better answers at {forum:id=75}. The forum has a FAQ that has a whole section {message:id=9360007}.

  • Insert /delete data from SAP Z table to Oracle table and opposite

    Hi,
    Can u help me write this FM from the SAP side?
    So, I have two tables ZTABLE in SAP and Oracle table ORAC.
    Let's put three columns in each of them, for example
    TEL1
    TEL2
    ADRESS
    NAME
    where TEL field is primary from ZTABLE to ORAC...
    (in FM there shoud be abap code for writing data in ZTABLE after we press some pushbutton made in sap screen painter..)
    for example, when we write new record in ZTABLE
    00
    112233
    Street 4
    Name1
    this data shoud be inserted in Oracle table ORAC.
    when we write new record in Oracle table for example
    01
    445566
    New Street
    Name2
    this data shoud be inserted in ZTABLE.
    Field TEL1 can be only of two values 01 or 02, other combination is not valid...
    I must have all data from Oracle table ORAC in ZTABLE and opposite.
    It should be the same scenario for DELETE...
    And this communication should be online between sap and table in oracle database...
    Can u help me from sap side? and give idea how to configure on oracle side??
    Thanks a lot,
    Nihad

    I dont know if we can directly connect to a oracle database ( wait for the answers from others on this )
    but in XI we have the JDBC adaptor to insert and retrieve data.
    so for the outbound from SAP the flow can be something like this (with XI in landscape):
    1) You have a screen to maintain a new entry / delete an entry
    2) On save , this record gets saved or deleted from the Ztable in SAP
    3)) In the same screen you can call a proxy class-method (generated using SPROXY transaction ) to send the record to XI.
    4) XI to format it and insert into the oracle table

    if by "merge" you mean 3 pdf into 1 pdf, try cfpdf (if on
    cf8) or see this

  • Creating table in oracle lite 10g

    Hi,
    I believe the following is the way to create a database table in Jdeveloper 10g and Oracle BPEL process Manager 10.1.3.1.0
    1.Created bpel project--> right click project ---> create schema---> right click schema---> create table(completed the wizard and created schema and table)
    2.Right click schema ---> new---> database tier---> offline database objects ----> SQL generated from offline database objects(and then complete the wizard)
    If the above is the correct approach to create the table, then I am facing two situations.
    a. In the project properties(offline database), if the 'database to emulate' is set to oracle lite 10g release 1, then "SQL generated from offline database objects" option is not enabled to choose in the step 2 above. So I cannot proceed further.
    b. If the 'database to emulate' is set to oracle database 10g release 2 (this is default), "SQL generated from offline database objects" in step 2 is enabled, but in the wizard that follows, when I tick 'perform operation against the database' it asks me for oracle database connection settings. But I only have the Oracle 10g Lite version and not Oracle database 10g. So I am not able proceed further.
    All I need is to create tables in the Oracle Lite database that I have.
    Any help on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

    While waiting for an answer here ... you may want to investigate the Oracle Lite forum at Database Mobile Server (inc. legacy Database Lite)

  • Printing intermediate object (images) stored in an internal table

    Hi All,
    I'm fetching certain imgaes / documents from a 3rd party repository system (IXOS) and storing the objects in an internal table in a program, later to download them onto the Presentation Server through an ABAP Program.
    But instead of downloading these images onto the Presentation Server, i want to directly print them through the ABAP Program on the local printer.
    These images are stored in some raw format in the internal table.
    Is there any way in which these N images or N raw data sets can be converted into N separate spools so that spools can be converted into N PDFs and then printed?
    Or is there any other way in which i can print these N images directly from the ABAP report.
    Request your help.
    Many thanks in advance,
    SG

    Not so easy. You can't just take an image in any format directly into a spool, SAP is only able to print TIFFs and BMPs (and not all "sub-formats") into spools.
    You first need to know what image formats you have to print, to make sure you're able to process all of these formats.
    You may try to use OLE technology to embed the image into a Word document for example, and print this document.
