Inserting new input record into the table through screen

Hi,
Example UserTable and PaymentTable
UserTable - UserID - Primary Key
PaymentTable - containg couple of fields and UserId is foreign Key.
I designed the page for to insert the new input record using the steps given in the doc "http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/web.1013/b28967/web_adv007.htm".
When i click the persistEntity method its throws TopLink error cannot insert null value into UserId column in PaymentTable.
Currently i am posting this reply from home... that's why i mentioning the scenario rather than posting the error.
Please tell how to populate the values from the screen to PaymentTable.
Thanks & Regards

  • Best way to insert millions of records into the table

    Hi,
    Performance point of view, I am looking for the suggestion to choose best way to insert millions of records into the table.
    Also guide me How to implement in easier way to make better performance.
    Thanks,
    Orahar.

    Orahar wrote:
    Its Distributed data. No. of clients and N no. of Transaction data fetching from the database based on the different conditions and insert into another transaction table which is like batch process.Sounds contradictory.
    If the source data is already in the database, it is centralised.
    In that case you ideally do not want the overhead of shipping that data to a client, the client processing it, and the client shipping the results back to the database to be stored (inserted).
    It is must faster and more scalable for the client to instruct the database (via a stored proc or package) what to do, and that code (running on the database) to process the data.
    For a stored proc, the same principle applies. It is faster for it to instruct the SQL engine what to do (via an INSERT..SELECT statement), then pulling the data from the SQL engine using a cursor fetch loop, and then pushing that data again to the SQL engine using an insert statement.
    An INSERT..SELECT can also be done as a direct path insert. This introduces some limitations, but is faster than a normal insert.
    If the data processing is too complex for an INSERT..SELECT, then pulling the data into PL/SQL, processing it there, and pushing it back into the database is the next best option. This should be done using bulk processing though in order to optimise the data transfer process between the PL/SQL and SQL engines.
    Other performance considerations are the constraints on the insert table, the triggers, the indexes and so on. Make sure that data integrity is guaranteed (e.g. via PKs and FKs), and optimal (e.g. FKs should be indexes on the referenced table). Using triggers - well, that may not be the best approach (like for exampling using a trigger to assign a sequence value when it can be faster done in the insert SQL itself). Personally, I avoid using triggers - I rather have that code residing in a PL/SQL API for manipulating data in that table.
    The type of table also plays a role. Make sure that the decision about the table structure, hashed, indexed, partitioned, etc, is the optimal one for the data structure that is to reside in that table.

  • Record not inserting into the table through Forms 10g

    Hi all,
    I have created a form in 10g(10.1.2.0.2) based on just one table that has 4 columns(col1, col2, col3, col4).
    Here col1, col2 and col3 are VARCHAR2 and col4 is date and all the columns are not null columns(There are no primary and foriegn key constrains, which means duplicates are allowed).
    My form contains 2 blocks where block 1 has one text item (col1) and 3 buttons (Delete, Save, Exit).
    And block2 is a database block and has col2,col3,col4 which are in tabluar layout frame displaying 10 records.
    When the form is opened the cursor has to be in block1.col1 for querrying. Here i enter a value in col1, and then when I click on col2 in the block2, then I put execute_query in new_block_instance of block2, which displays the records.
    The block2 properties are not updatable, insertable and query is allowed.
    Everything is working good until here. But here in the block2 when I want to insert another record into the table, by navigating all the way down to the last empty record and entering the new values for col2, col3 and col4 And then Ctrl+S will display the message "*FRM-40400: Transaction complete: 1 record applied and saved.*" But actually the record is not inserted into the table.
    I also disabled the col4 by setting the Enabled property to No, since while inserting new record the date have to be populated into it and it shouldnt be changed by the user. And im populating the sysdate into the new record by setting Intial Value property to *$$DATE$$*.
    And another requirement which I could not work arround here is that, the col3 also should be populated with the username of the user while inserting.
    please help me...

    Hi Sarah,
    I do not want to update the existing record. So I kept Udate Allowed to No in property palette for the items in block2.
    Do I have to do this property at block level also?
    I'm inserting a new record here.

    If you are absolutely sure that you do not have such a row already in your table, open a case with customer support and reference CR321312. I believe the work-around is to put ld-server-core.jar in your client classpath.
    Correction: put ld-server-app.jar in the client classpath

  • Insert a record into a table through email in an Oracle APEX application

    I developed an Oracle APEX application, there is a table called events. I can insert/update/delete a record in the table through browser. I am thinking in order to quickly do the data entry, user should be able to send an email, then the table should be inserted with values from email address, timestamp, subject and body. Anyd idea how to realize this functionality?
    - Denis

    Start by checking whether your mail server provides any API's for accessing emails , if it does you might be able to reduce a lot of work by using some kind of web service consumer from apex to your mail server. In any case your implementation is going to be dependent on your Mail Server configuration.
    Your problem breaks down to reading/accessing mails from the mail server from PLSQL (apex is driven by PLSQL).
    I found this other thread which could be of some use.
    WAY TO ACCESS A MAIL SERVER FROM ORACLE APEX
    <li>The following package might solve your problem directly(from carsten czarski of the German Apex community)
    [url http://plsqlmailclient.sourceforge.net]http://plsqlmailclient.sourceforge.net
    PS: POP3 support is still TBD.
    <li>I also found this posting in the orafaq forums which lists a java method and PLSQL code bit for it for accessing emails via POP3
    [url http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/80928/2/]http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/80928/2/
    If these do not work for you, find some java library to read mail from your server, write a PLSQL wrapper for it and use it in a scheduled job(DBMS_JOB)/a PLSQL block triggered from Apex.
    If you get stuck there, find some utility that can read mails, invoke them from your DB using java,shell scrpt,dbms_scheduler etc and use the utility's function for the rest.
    NOTE: I haven't tried any of these utilities and you must validate any java code before running them on your environment.
    Since aren't really much restrictions(other than spam checks) in sending a mail to your mail account, you might want to consider filtering out the mails from which you create records.

  • Different methods involved in insertion of records into the table

    hi all,
    i am using Forms [32 Bit] Version 6.0.8.24.1 (Production)
    Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    i have parameters like emp_code(optional) and year(mandatory field-four digit year).
    Based on the parameter i have to get the details from one table and those records should be inserted into other table along with additions columns(by hardcoding the additional columns).
    To acheive this i am planning to get a cursor by selecting the necessay fields from the table passing the parameters in the where clause of the cursor.
    by looping through the cursor i will insert the records into the other table.
    here the thing is the data is going to be huge (since year is the parameter).
    so is my approach leads to the performance issue.
    i heard that there are different method of insetions,
    can anybody suggest me the better way(peformance wise) other than what i have mentioned (if you are aware of)..
    Thanks..

    This is not really a Forms issue, so you'd better go to the sql and pl/sql forum. Here, this question has been asked many times: how do I insert large volumes of data in a table?
    insert into ...
    select ....
    or CTAS (create table as select ....)
    by looping through the cursor i will insert the records into the other table.That is really the worst idea. If you can do it in sql (insert into ... select ...) DON'T do it in pl/sql.

  • INSERTION OF XML DATA INTO THE TABLE USING XMLDOM

    hello,
    i am using XMLDOM to insert the data into the table
    i am using different function of it.
    but i am facing the problem to retrive the the multiple entry.
    like in my example i have two entry of the ' po number '
    & i am using the function
    dbms_xmldom.item(l_nodelist, 0)
    i which i have to pass index no.
    & through this i am getting only single entry according to the index no.
    Example on which i am working is
    declare
    l_xml_data CLOB;
    l_xml_doc dbms_xmldom.domdocument;
    l_nodelist dbms_xmldom.DOMNodeList;
    l_node dbms_xmldom.domnode;

    l_cust_ord VARCHAR2(30);
    l_item_code VARCHAR2(30);

    The nodelist is a 0 based array of information and you are only requesting to pull the node info in the first array position. So to get the info in the second array position, you need to use ", 1)". You can also use .getLength and a loop to parse through everything in the node list.

  • How to restrict the number of Records into the Table?

    Is there any way that I can restrict the number of records can be entered into the table?
    For example I have created a table TAB1 with size category 0( zero).
    User dont want to enter more than 100 values, How to restrict the number entries? Whether Basis can do it?
    Regards,
    Prathap

    Hi Prathap,
    You can write a code in table maintenance events to restrict the number of Records added into the Table to constant.
    Solution:
    Se11 -> enter table name (TAB1) -> F6 -> Utlities -> Table maint. generator -> Envirnment -> modification -> events -> write here the form routine name.
    Double click on routine name. You will get into include section of the code. Write here code like:
    IF current_rec_num > 100.
       messgae error 'Entry restriceted to 100'
    ENDIF.
    Somewhat this way you can achieve your target.

  • How to insert records into the Table?

    Dear Sir,
    I'm new to JDeveloper. Now I managed to create a Frame in JDeveloper with many Text fields and a button. In the back end, I have a procedure to insert records to a table, to which I pass the values of the fields as parameters. Now I'm not getting the steps to call the PL/SQL Stored procedure when I click on the button. I'm using Oracle 9i JDeveloper version 9.0.3.1. and Oracle 9i Database.
    Please give me the complete steps to achieve my task - it is quite urgent.
    Thanking You in advance.
    Regards,
    Senthil .A. Perumal.

    The JDBC tutorial will show you how to call a stored procedure from Java:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/java.920/a96654/basic.htm
    One more thing, why are you using such an old version of JDeveloper? any reason not to upgrade to the 10.1.3 version of JDeveloper?
    Also you might want to look into ADF and how it makes these type of database interactions easier.

  • Refresh page with data from the Next Record in the Table through a Button

    Scenario: Record of a table “prototype” is made up of 8 columns,
    key_col,
    text_col,
    label1_col, label2_col, label3_col,
    check1_col, check2_col, check3_col,
    I have created the following items on a page:
    a) A Display Only item that is populated through a SQL query
    “SELECT text_col from prototype where rownum=key_seq.NEXTVAL “.
    b) Hidden item for the database columns “label1_col, label2_col, label3_col”
    Source type for the hidden items is of type SQL query, Source expression is:
    Select label1_col from prototype where rownum=key_seq.NEXTVAL ;
    Select label2_col from prototype where rownum=key_seq.NEXTVAL ;
    Select label3_col from prototype where rownum=key_seq.NEXTVAL ;
    (key_seq is a sequence).
    c) Checkbox item for the database columns “ check1_col, check2_col,check3_col"
    d) The labels for the above checkbox items are &label1_col. , &label2_col. , &label3_col.
    I have created a Save button to save the state of the checkboxes; (STATIC:;1 )
    I want the page to be refreshed with the data from the next record (Fields text_col, label1_col, label2_col, label3_col) through a “ Next” Button.
    Can I please know how I can achieve this?

    If you need the value that is entered in the textbox as the email body, then try this..
    <html>
    <HEAD>
    <title>WebForm1</title>

    function mailHTML() {
    var content=document.getElementById('textBox').value;

  • INSERT of two records into different tables (pk value from first to second)

    Hi there!
    Have probably stupid question
    Need to insert one record into table with primary key and then insert into other table record with value of primary key field from first record
    How can I do it?
    Thanks a lot!!!

    You have several possibilities. Most easiest one is listed first :)
    SQL> create table a (a number);
    Table created.
    SQL> alter table a add constraint a_pk primary key (a);
    Table altered.
    SQL> create table b (a number);
    Table created.
    SQL> alter table b add constraint  b_a_fk foreign key (a) references a(a);
    Table altered.
    SQL> insert into a values (0);
    1 row created.
    SQL> insert into b values (0);
    1 row created.Though that may not help always, so the next possibility maybe just using sequence with nextval and currval (currval can be used only in the same session and only after you have issued at least one nextval)
    SQL> create sequence a_seq;
    Sequence created.
    SQL>  insert into a values (a_seq.nextval);
    1 row created.
    SQL> insert into b values (a_seq.currval);
    1 row created.And you can use also famous returning clause. It is a bit easier to show that in the pl/sql block than pure SQL.
    SQL> declare
      2   v number;
      3  begin
      4   insert into a values (a_seq.nextval) returning a into v;
      5   insert into b values (v);
      6  end;
      7  /
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.And at last contents of the tables :)
    SQL> select * from b;
             A
             0
             1
             2
    SQL> select * from a;
             A
             0
             1

  • Doubt in inserting Date and time into the table

    Hi i have created a table with two columns "Order_ID" and "Order_date" as
    create table test
    order_id integer,
    order_date date default sysdate
    Now i insert one row as
    insert into test(order_id) values(1);
    now i get the output as
    ORDER_ID ORDER_DAT

    But i need to insert the current system time also into the Order_date column.

  • Insert value with quotes into the table

    Hi,
    How can I insert a value along with quotes into a table column of type varchar.
    Meaning..I want to insert the value 'TEST' including the single quotes.
    Regards,
    Murali Mohan

    It only a matter of using the correct number of quotes. to insert 'TEST' you use 3 quotes on each end
    example: '''TEST'''
