Hello
never tried installation on a 64bits OS, as far as I remember, it involves 32-bit emulation. This type of installation is not recommended, we always use 32 bit distros (even on x86_64 procs), it seems that it was removed from the installation guide itself

Image: !http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/7448/oracle.png!did you check this
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14203/storage.htm#BABBHECD
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b28263/storage.htm#CDEBFDEH
also before you do what is suggested on the url posted by Mufalani,
it seems that you should do the following:
Check existence of udev raw mapping rule file /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
On RH/EL5, udev raw mapping rule file /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules should exist by default as part of the util-linux package, for example:
# ls /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
/etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rulesCreate a custom udev raw mapping rule file, /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules say, for example:
# touch /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules3b. Add udev raw binding rules to /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules file
Add the udev raw binding rules to the /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules file, for example:
# cat /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules
# Raw bind to Oracle Clusterware devices
ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd*", PROGRAM=="/sbin/scsi_id", RESULT=="360a98000686f6959684a453333524174", RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw1 %N"
ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd*", PROGRAM=="/sbin/scsi_id", RESULT=="360a98000686f6959684a453333524179", RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw2 %N"If migrating to RHEL5/OEL5 from an earlier Linux version that relied on /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices file for persistent raw device bindings, the following script can be used as a basis for generating your RHEL5/OEL5 udev rules. Note, the script does not factor device name persistency.
#!/bin/bash
grep -v "^ *#" /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices | grep -v "^$" | while read dev major minor ; do
if [ -z "$minor" ]; then
echo "ACTION==\"add\", KERNEL==\"${major##/dev/}\", RUN+=\"/bin/raw $dev %N\""
else
echo "ACTION==\"add\", ENV{MAJOR}==\"$major\", ENV{MINOR}==\"$minor\", RUN+=\"/bin/raw $dev %M %m\""

The server under that linux is IBM p5 with power processor. Therefor installation pack is 10.2.0.1 for linux on power.
The error is coming on linking Oracle Net and it looks like this:

Has anyone got any idea?
S.From the error message
xannot find -lxli would guess there is one library missing.
Update: According to http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=13871720
It states: "means you did not install the IBM XLC runtime env. library, which was mentioned in the document. And can be downloaded from ibm.com"
Further in this thread:
"RHAS 4 U2 and later version are not supported by Oracle 10gR2 10.2.0.1. Only U1 is supported, since Redhat upgraded GCC in U2 and that breaks Oracle.
Oracle has a patch fix that, and it's included in 10.2.0.2 patchset, you need that from metalink..."

Jdk error when installing ocs on redhat 2.1
Hi dear colleagues,
I have a problem while installing OCS 9.0.4.1 on a linux redhat 2.1
When i launch ./RunInstaller,
i get :
java.lang.InternalError: not implemented yet
at sun.awt.X11SurfaceData.getRaster(X11SurfaceData.java:155)
at sun.java2d.loops.OpaqueCopyAnyToArgb.Blit(CustomComponent.java:67)
at sun.java2d.loops.GraphicsPrimitive.convertFrom(GraphicsPrimitive.java:451)
at sun.java2d.loops.MaskBlit$General.MaskBlit(MaskBlit.java:186)
I looked for an answer and i found in
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4517321.html
that
"jdk1.3.1_01 does not have that problem"
I have :
sh-2.05$ java -version
java version "1.3.1"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1)
Classic VM (build 1.3.1, J2RE 1.3.1 IBM build cxia32131-20020302 (JIT enabled: jitc))
So i'm confused....
I tried to change depth from 24 to 16 in XF86Config-4 file
but it changed nothing.
did someone knows what i have to do to correct this ?
Matthieu
ps : i'm newbie with linux and ocs.Have you gone through all the pre-install checks and tasks? (eg. installed pre-req'd packages)

Installing Oracle 9.2 RAC on RHEL 3
Hi,
I'm trying to install Oracle 9.2 RAC on RHEL 3 (kernel 2.6.4) with NFS as shared stored device.
I follow W.Puschitz instructions (installing 9i on RHEL AS 3 and installing Oracle 9i RAC on RHEL AS 2.1).
Problem :
cluster manager oracm only starts on one RAC node. If I start oracm on a second RAC node, it crashes.
Please, help.I am not sure if NFS works perfectly with RAC as a Shared storage. Give it a shot by using FireWire shared storage using OCFS or Raw files.
I had success with OCFS using FireWire shared storage.
Thanks

Install OCS Single-error message "File not found \onebox\onebox_stg.rsp"
I am trying to install OCS Single Box on a Win2000Server and I get this message before as soon as installation begins:
"File not found \onebox\onebox_stg.rsp"
The software was downloaded yesterday from OTN. It's version 9.0.3.1.0. It's the second time I downloaded it and I got the same error previously. I moved the Disk1 dir to the root dir and that didn't help either.I installed the single box on Linux and had to start setup.sh (so search for something like setup.bat) instead of starting runInstaller
I also had to define the environment variables TMP and TEMPDIR in order to get the setup starting.

HOW TO INSTALL OCS 2 for windows 2000/xp
dear respected sir,
as i am new in oracle enviornment
i had download from oracle otn site, 3 zip files of ocs, and also download infrat structure
can any one help to installed on my system step by step
as i read the manual but when i installed ocs it demand me to install infrastructure firt
rgds,
shahzadyes thats true , you would require to install the infrastructure first. The order for the installation is:
1. Infrastructure.
2. Storage
3. Middle Tier.
You should follow the installation in the aboye order, whereas make sure the system requirements if you are installing it on linux or any other than windows. for windows latest service pack would be required. go through the manual and you'll make it through the instalation.

Hi
Does anyone know if the 64 bit version of FMS2 will be
available for RedHat v4?
Right now when I try to install the server I get:
ERROR: Your architecture, \'x86_64\', is not supported by the
Macromedia Flash Media Server installer.
Thanks
ZIdea #1:
Get a version of Linux compatible with your version of the Oracle database.
Idea #2:
Install a currently supported, not an antique, version of the Oracle database supported with your operating system version.
Idea #3:
Spend countless hours being frustrated by trying to install old software on an operating system on which it was never certified is not recommended. -
Installing OCS 10g on RHEL 3 (Upd 4) failing kernel parameter checks
Hi all,
I am preparing for upgrading my OCS 9.0.4.2 to 10g. While running the Universal Installer it fails within the kernel parameter checks. It complains about two parameters that cannot find in /proc/sys/kernel. The two parameters are: hardnofiles and softnofiles. I don't have any idea what those could be, anyone out there who can tell me what this means?
Thanks,
Stephan
