Install a new printer on Solaris 9

Hi All,
I am new to Solaris OS.I have np prior experience of working in Solaris.My requirement at the client site, is to configure a new HP printer with a server running on Solaris 9 OS.I do not have access to the desktop environment(No GUI), as a result I need to achieve the entire task through command prompt.Can anyone provide the steps or guide me in achieving my requirement?.Do I need to install the printer driver??Is yes, then how to install the printer driver??How do we print a test page?( i know there is a command lpadmin, but don't have any idea on its usage..).
PS: All the steps to be done through command line.

Installed a new printer and one line on the top is skipped

Appreciate your inputs.
We have been using the 'Check Printing report' for quite a while; We recently installed a new printer and we see that the alignment has gone wrong.
The checks are printing from one line below as it is skipping one line. Where do we adjust the setting so that the printing starts from the place where we want?

Im no expert but I doubt its a template issue more likely to be the control escape sequence on the printer diriver set up. Check your printer manual and the current set up you have.

It's probably cheaper to buy a new printer & sell the existing on on ebay.
I have the Cannon pixma mg3120 works fine for me with mac os x 10.4.11. I am able to refill the color ink jet cartridge. Press reset + color copy button for 10 seconds.

Hook it up and see if it works. If it is one of the more common printer brands/models, it could very well have it's drivers installed, depending on how your OS was installed. If not, you can always go to the support site for your printer and download the drivers, if necessary.

Folks, network printers should NOT BE configured like this:
lpadmin -p somequeue -s someprinter
that creates a remote style queue and puts all the I/O and processing capability on the basic LPD listener present on network printer interfaces. This will cause problems down the road, not to mention that you cannot control access, get any logging, filter content, or control banner pages.
Network printers should use any software (or PPD file) supplied by the vendor over the basic lpadmin/netstandard config.
You can install CUPS, but Oracle won't support it until it's part of the OS (S11, apparently).
The "System Administration Guide: Solaris Printing" is highly recommended for those administering printers on Solaris.

What OS? Have you tried a repair and updates from the HELP menu? The updates may be the key.

We need help installing our new printer

We bought a new HP Photosmart 7520e printer because our old one wasn't working with our computer. We were assured by the salespeople that it would be compatible with Windows 8.
That doesn't appear to be the case! We've used the CD that came with it, tried to use the install wizard, the hpdoctor and nothing works. We still can't print.
there must be a simple way of doing this. Not to show our age but we remember when you plugged it in, ran the CD and you were Done!

For further assistance, I will need to know:
If the printer is connected, Wireless, or USB.
If the printer is able to make copies by itself.
If the power cable is plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
If there were any error messages during the install.

Installed all new printer cartridges but prints blank pages

I installed brand new official HP ink cartridges today. I aligned the cartidges, cleaned the printer head, etc and it just prints a blank page?

The post here has links to a troubleshooting document for the Photosmart 6520. If the steps there do not resolve the issue please call HP Support, even if the printer is not longer under warranty. In the US or Canada call 1-800-HPINVENt, elsewhere see the document here for contact information. Normally you will be asked to confirm software installation and updates, which is what that window should be for. However, the "Name" is the "User" name as shown in System Preferences > Users & Groups. Is "apple" your User name? If not, try entering what your User name is and then the password that goes with it.

An install operation took too long to execute - wireless install of new printer

New printer, out of the box.
Every time I try and install the printer wirelssly using the CD Rom, it stalls at 99% install and returns message
"an install operation took too long to execute. this is a fatal error preventing product use." I have tried the following (in this order) with no success:
- Downloading latest driver (even though CD Rom install said I had the latst driver)
- Turning HP Smart Install off on the printer, removing the printer from Device Manager, rebooting and reinstalling
- Temporarily disabling firewall and virus protection software, removiremoving the printer from Device Manager, rebooting and reinstalling

I see by your post that the installation is stalling at 99%. Thank you for provided all the steps you have already taken.
I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue.
Disconnect the USB cable first.
Remove the drivers first from the Print Server Properties if you have a printer icon listed in the Devices and Printers window. Highlight the printer, across the top of the window, click on Printer Server Properties, on the Driver tab, highlight and remove the printer, LaserJetPro 200 clr MFP M276nw and any Universal PCL drivers.
Uninstall the software from the CD. Touch the Windows key and the E key to access the computer window. Right click on the CD for the printer, left click open in a new window, double click on uninstall.
Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Then start the installation again, immediately follow the steps in this document after connecting the USB cable please.
A Fatal Error Displays During Software Installation.
Disregard the printer model. This should allow the software to fully install properly.
Test the printer.
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
