Install a test JSP Web Server on a mac for a PHP developer

I am looking to write some simple JSP pages. I need a Java web server and the development kit [JSPWDK or is it JSWDK?]
I have only Java SE 6.0 installed on my mac. I have Snow Leopard OS.
I had trouble in the downloads finding the right one, but I downloaded the
jswdk_0_1_solsparc.tar.z
I was looking for a regular UNIX JSWDK and didn't find one?
Will the Solaris Sparc version work for a mac?
I have apache on my mac. I normally use PHP but for a web project.
I need the JSP server.
Can I install the JSP Server on my mac along with the Apache server. This is only for development.
I have got Zend Framework for PHP running on my mac so I don't want to mess up too much for this test.
Thanks for any advice or any pages anywhere to help but I can install from a tar file if there isn't too much configuration.
TIA.

Hi,
If you need to install a full development environment with Tomcat in Mac OSX take a look at my tutorial at http://jmaw.blogspot.com.es/2012/08/minimo-entorno-de-desarrollo-java-mac.html. The blog has translation if you need it.
I hope I can help. Also you can. Install both servers taking care of the ports, usually Tomcat listens requests by the port 8080 while Apache server listens requests by the default http port 80.
Best regards,
Jmaw

hope you installed the web server as a root user. if you have done, it is easy to take it from there . you can use wadm create-server
    <install-root>/bin/wadm create-server user=admin ..  config=.. --node=<hostname> <hostname>
finally, you should able to start/stop using Solaris 10 SVCS commands like
    svcs -a | grep http
svcadm enable -s https-.. (for server instance)
if you chose enabling SMF during installation, you can do so for admin server a well. (so that you can start/stop using commands like svcadm enable -s admin-server)

I am novice in jsp. Can i know if there is any jsp web server comparison available? from my search result, most are comparing old version of jsp web server. Can any one mind to share? (on you experience as well? or which jsp webserver have u experienced how is the respond?)

The best summary of j2ee servers I know of is here:

There are a few reviews linked from that page.
If you are just after a servlet/jsp container, Tomcat seems to be pretty much standard.

  • Unable to install Sun Java System Web Server 6.1 Service Pack 7 on Wndows

    Dear All,
I recently downloaded Sun Java System Web Server 6.1 Service Pack 7 and now I am trying to install it.
The previous version of Web Server 6.1 that i installed is running successfully on Windows 2000 Prof. though it is not meant for it.
To install SP7, i uninstalled the previous Web Server 6.1. I also removed the folder Sun and all the child folders of it. The Sun ONE Web Server services are still available and i can't able to delete them even from registry so i disabled them.
Then I tried to install SP7. But after few steps, it gives error:
You already have a Sun ONE Web Server installed. Install can not proceed.
I am sure that i am able to remove completely the previous instance of webserver as i removed all the entries from registry also and also disabled the services related to it.
Still why i am getting this error?
Will it work on Windows 2000 Professional like its previous version?
If not can i able to install previous version of the Web server 6.1 (without SP7) on Windows 2000 Prof?
    Please help me regarding this.
    -Sameer

Sameer, you should have uninstalled Web Server 6.1 using the Web Server uninstallation program instead of just deleting its files and directories. Your Windows registry is now in an inconsistent state.
If you can restore your previous Web Server 6.1 installation from a backup, you can run the uninstaller to correctly uninstall it.
If you cannot uninstall Web Server 6.1 using its uninstallation program, you will need to manually delete the Windows services and edit the Windows registry to remove all references to the files you deleted. Note that you can render your computer inoperable by deleting services or modifying the Windows registry. Don't do this if you're not confident with what you're doing.
To delete the services using SC.EXE:C:\>sc delete https-admserv61
C:\>sc delete https-hostname(You can find the hostname for the Web Server 6.1 service(s) using the Services program in the Administrative Tools folder of the Control Panel.)
To clean up the registry, use REGEDIT.EXE to delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Sun Microsystems/WebServer.

  • Can Acrobat 9 pro be installed to XP with web server(IIS) without any license issue?

It seems not to permit to install into window server, but how about the window XP had web server installed?

Thanks for your reply. As I mentioned in my post, when I went to Control Panel to uninstall Acrobat 11.0, it wasn't listed among currently installed apps. However, after going back and looking through the Installed On dates in Control Panel, I realized that for some reason, it's called Adobe PFD Creation Add-on XI, rather than Acrobat 11.0. Interestingly, the program folder name in Windows Explorer still uses Acrobat 11.0.
Fortunately for me, I always have disc versions of my software. So I was able to re-install Acrobat 9.0 once I got rid of Adobe PDF Creation Add-on XI. I really wish that Adobe made clearer what extras they are installing with these trial versions :-(
    Thanks again.

  • Using private key installed on Sun One web server in java code.

    Hi,
I am digitally signing an XML string. I have been able to successfully do this using the .keystore and the JSSE API.
I need to run this code in the SUN ONE Web server, hence I have installed a self signed cert in the web server, using the web console.
I need to load the .keystore that is being maintained by the Sun One Web Server in my Java program as a KeyStore object
Presently I am using the following JSSE calls:
    KeyStore keystore = KeyStore.getInstance(KeyStore.getDefaultType());
    // Load the keystore contents
    FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(keystoreFile);
    keystore.load(in, keystorePassword);
    in.close();
Now how do I access the keystore and the certs that I have added in the web server? Is there any SUN API for this?
    Any help will be appreciated!

The global zone should offer no services to the network except services required to administer the system. SSH from known IPs. Put everything in zones for the security of the system. Zones have no performance penalty so there is no advantage to running on the host system in the global zone.
Sun's Java Enterprise server software webserver, directory server, etc required a full zone due to Solaris Package issues or conflicts; writing stuff in /usr; or both. A whole root for this software should not be a big deal. I create zones 9 at a time numbered in sequence. Zone 8 and 9 are whole root zones for requirements such as this.
I'll leave to others to alert us if the whole root zone requirement changes for Sun's Java Enterprise Server software.

  • Installing CGI on SunOne Web Server - Help!

I'm new to the SunOne WebServer and am trying to get CGI/Perl to work. I've tried all I know at the CGI directory page but still can't get Hello World to show up.
Running it as *.cgi shows a 405 - Method Not Allowed Error.
Running it as *.pl prompts me to save the file - you only get that when path to Perl is not correct, no?
What else do I need to know/change on the web server to get it to run?

You have not indicated the web server version and OS that you are using. Anyway, the error that you report is probably because the CGI is not configured correctly on this server. Here are the docs for Web Server 6.1 to enable CGI:

  • Enabling the web server in an executable for LV 8.6

I just upgraded form LV 7.1 to LV 8.6. In 7.1 I built a boat load of executables that had web server capabilities. That is the customer could view and operate the VI from any computer via Internet Explorer. It was very simple to do.
In 8.6 the web publishing tool is the same as is the enable web server function under tools>Options.  In 7.1 app builder, I would include the HTML files in a www directory under the target's root then I would simply open the tools>options menu and enable the server on the executable. It's not there anymore.
For the life of me I cannot figure out how to do this in 8.6. I've spoken to (2) people at NI Support and it didn't help. They were probably in high school when 7.1 came out.
I've figured out how to use project explorer to build both an application and installer build. I put the HTML files into a www folder under windowsvolume folder which is supposed to be the root. The executable works fine except for the web server.
It must be something simple. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.
Message Edited by technics on 12-02-2008 02:18 PM

I'm sorry to hear that the NI support people you talked to weren't able to help you.
There have been a few threads on this subject that you might find helpful:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=351396#M351396
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=354555#M354555
It is a little more complicated than it was in 8.5. We are working to make it as simple as possible.
I am always interested to hear what problems you have so we can improve the feature.

  • Jsp web server ratings

Would like to know your opinions on which open source application/licenced server you find most effient for serving jsp pages on a live environment.
    For example
    Websphere
    Weblogic
    Glassfish
    Apache tomcat
    Apache http server
    Resin
    Jboss
    Orion
    Bluestone
What I will be looking for a s a good one is one that lets me easily integrate e.g php and has good GUI for setting up configurations.
Please let me now your experiences/set-backs in these areas.

    define "efficient".
    WebspherePOS
    WeblogicOverly sensitive
    GlassfishSlow
    Apache tomcatGood
Apache http serverIrrelevant (does not support JSP)
    ResinGood, but wrong license
JbossUses Tomcat to serve JSP, so see Tomcat
    OrionOutdated
BluestoneNever heard of it, which probably means it's rubbish (or I'd have heard of it)
What I will be looking for a s a good one is one that lets me easily integrate e.g php and has good GUI for setting up configurations.
A configuration file and VI is all the "gui" you need. In any serious deployment scenario it's all you'll have access to anyway,

Just unzip all Instant Client zip files in the same directory, they all have "instantclient_11_2" as first path element,
so everything will end up in the right place in this directory.
If your Instant Client directory has a different name, unzip the package somewhere and move all files and
directories in it to your instant client directory.

  • Old Web Server Software on Mac OS X Server 10.4.6?

I am wondering why my apache that is running is only 1.3.33 accordign to my webmin tool that my friend installed, the php and sql are old too.
I'm not a unix guru by any means and I want to upgrade these and enable GD etc, but I'm running 4 or more virtual servers by using the server tools and I don't want to break the builtin functionality of the server tools. Is apple going to upgrade this stuff on os x server?

Mac OS X Server ships with both Apache 1.3.33 and Apache 2.2 (in /opt/apache2).
You're more than welcome to disable Apache 1.3.x and use 2.2 if you prefer.
However, the Server Admin GUI will only currently work with Apache 1.3.x, so if you do you'll need to manage your configurations manually.

  • Auto-install a new web server instance

Hi, i'm attempting to install a Sun ONE Web Server on my workstation as part of a tutorial for Sun Identity and Acess Management Servers.
Within the tutorial it is stated that this web server is completely seperate from the web server within the Identity Server, and simply involves running an auto-install script called "install-webserver.sh".
Each time i attempt to run this script I am recieving a "bad interpreter: Permission denied" error message.
The line !/bin/sh is at the top of my file and yet this error is still occuring. The file was ftp'd from my windows NT directory across to my Unix directory "/export/home/opt/SUNWam/bin", and it is in this directory that I am attempting to run this scrpt.
So, does this sound in any way familiar to anyone?? I can provide you with the script if necessary.
    Kind regards,
    Stephen

6.1 unfortunately does not provide a way to create instances through command line tool. With 7.0 (soon to be released as Beta in the coming weeks) will have a full fledged command line tool for all server administration tasks
meanwhile, as a temporary work around one could do the following within a shell or perl script.
[ this approach is totally not supported by Sun. You are on your own ]
    1. cd INSTALL_ROOT
    2. copy https-HOSTNAME to https-test (/bin/cp -Rf https-HOSTNAME https-TEST) - assuming TEST is the new instance name that you want to create.
    3. use a script to edit the following files and replace 'https-HOSTNAME' to https-TEST in all occurrences.
    list of files to change:
    start , stop , reconfig , restart , rotate
    config/magnus.conf
    config/server.xml
    4. finally, you can use 'HttpServerAdmin' to change the listener port, security settings etc
    ./bin/https/bin/HttpServerAdmin -h
    http://docs.sun.com/source/819-0130/agcmdln.html
for eg ( i would do something like this )
(to create instance https-TEST from default server instance, assuming you do not have special ACL file configured in the default instance, I would do something like )
use a perl script to copy https-HOSTNAME to https-TEST
    (/bin/cp -Rf https-HOSTNAME https-TEST)
    /bin/cp httpacl/generated.http-HOSTNAME.acl httpacl/generated.http-TEST.acl
    cd https-TEST
replace https-HOSTNAME to https-TEST in following files (start, stop, restart, reconfig, rotate, config/magnus.conf, config/server.xml)
    cd ..
now delete the listener socket id
    ./bin/https-TEST/bin/HttpServerAdmin delete -l -id ls1 -sinst https-TEST -d INSTALL_ROOT (where you server is installed)
followed by create a new listener socket id
    ./bin/https-TEST/bin/HttpServerAdmin create -l -id ls1 -ip ANY -port NEW_PORT -sname HOSTNAME -defaultvs https-TEST -sinst https-TEST -d INSTALL_ROOT
[ similarly, you can perform other server admin tasks using this command' ]
