How to install Oracle software remotely?
Remote Software Installation Steps: (For Solaris only)
If you want to install Oracle Software remotely, you should perform the following steps. These steps are applicable only if your source and target machine are running Unix.
For example, you can install Oracle Software from your home from Washington, DC to a target source in California.
    1. Pick your source server or machine for remote installation.
    2. Check that your CD is in your source CD-ROM drive.
    3. On the target machine, find your target machine name with the output of the /usr/bin/hostname
    4. On the source machine, login as a user.
    5. On the source machine, enable client access: % /usr/openwin/bin/xhost + target-machine-name
    6. Become root user by typing: su (don’t use -)
    7. Check that Volume Manger is running. # ps –ef |grep vold (if you see an entry that contains /usr/sbin/vold, Volume Manager is running. Then skip to Step 10.
    8. If not then do the following: # mkdir –p /cdrom/your-cd-file-name
    9. # mount –F hsfs –r cdrom-device /cdrom/your-cd-file-name
    10. Add the following line to your /etc/dfs/dfstab file: # share –F nfs –o ro /cdrom/your-cd-file-name
    11. Verify whether your source machine is an NFS server: # ps –ef | grep nfsd
    12. If you see an entry that contains /use/lib/nfs/nfsd –a 16, then nfsd is running and skip to Step 16.
    13. If nfsd is running, then type: # /usr/sbin/shareall
    14. If nfsd is not running, then start nfsd by typing: # /etc/init.d/nfs.server start
    15. Verify whether your source machine is an NFS server again by typing: # ps –ef | grep nfsd
    16. Make sure your source machine is exporting your product directory by typing: # /usr/sbin/dfshares
    17. Now, log in to the target machine by type: # rlogin target-machine-name –l user (not root)
    18. Then log in as the root user by typing: # su
    19. Go to the source machine by typing: # cd /net/source-machine/cdrom/your-cd-file-name ,then Skip to 24.
    20. If you cannot change to that directory in Step 19 and you do not have an auto-mounter on your network, then create amount point by typing the following commands.
    21. # mkdir /remote_products
    22. # /usr/sbin/mount –F nfs –r source-machine:/cdrom/your-cd-file-name /remote_products
    23. # cd /remote_products
    24. Redirect the target machine display to source machine by typing: # DISPLAY=source-machine:0; export DISPLAY (if you use a Bourne or Korn shell).
    25. Start the Web Start Installer by typing: # ./installer (or whatever the installer name program is).

    Hi Large Files to Convert,
Even when a PDF file is under the 100-MB file size limit, it could be that the large number of pages is adding a level of complexity that causes the ExportPDF service to timeout before it can finish the conversion.
If the PDF file wasn't created from a scanned document, you can simplify the conversion somewhat by disabling OCR as described in this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (O... | Adobe Community
Otherwise, you might want to consider using a free trial of Acrobat to convert that large file. For more information, see www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.

  • Please help me, a problem when install oracle 10g on the solaris 10

currently, I am installing the oracle 10g on the solaris 10, I am using DHCP and
my computer has no hostname, the following is copied from the 10g document,
When you run Oracle Universal Installer, an error may occur if name resolution is not set up. To avoid this error, before you begin installation, you must ensure that host names are resolved only through the /etc/hosts file.
To ensure that host names are resolved only through the /etc/hosts file:
    1.
Verify that the /etc/hosts file is used for name resolution. You can do this by checking the hosts file entry in the nsswitch.conf file as follows:
    # cat /etc/nsswitch.conf | grep hosts
The output of this command should contain an entry for files.
    2.
Verify that the host name has been set by using the hostname command as follows:
    # hostname
The output of this command should be similar to the following:
    myhost.mycomputer.com
currently, when I use hostname command, it is unknown, what should I do to add
    my hostname? thanks

Since this is related to Solaris, you will most likely get a better/faster response on a Sun Solaris forum rather than here.

How can we install the package and what is the role of the packge.
    Thansk,
    Selva

The SUNWfoo and SUNWfoox packages were generally merged for Solaris 10 SPARC packages. The foox would represent 64-bit binaries/libraries and may be left out of a 32-bit system install.
Since Solaris 10 only runs a 64-bit kernel on SPARC, there's no reason to supply both packages and they were merged.
For x86, 32-bit kernel mode is still supported, and the package separation exists.

Folks, network printers should NOT BE configured like this:
    lpadmin -p somequeue -s someprinter
that creates a remote style queue and puts all the I/O and processing capability on the basic LPD listener present on network printer interfaces. This will cause problems down the road, not to mention that you cannot control access, get any logging, filter content, or control banner pages.
Network printers should use any software (or PPD file) supplied by the vendor over the basic lpadmin/netstandard config.
You can install CUPS, but Oracle won't support it until it's part of the OS (S11, apparently).
The "System Administration Guide: Solaris Printing" is highly recommended for those administering printers on Solaris.

Processing DriverFile = E:\Oracle R12\Oracle12_Source\Oracle12\stage12i\startCD\Disk1\rapidwiz\template\adriapps.drvYou cannot use spaces in the directory/file names, so I believe those errors are because you are using a space in the directory name (Oracle R12) -- Please change the directory name to another name with no space (i.e. OracleR12) and retry the installation then.

  • When i was installing oracle database i get the following error please

when i was installing oracle 11g in windows 7 .... i got the below error like this .... can u please suggest this .. .and how can i set environment variables and where i need to modify ... please suggsest me
    [email protected]
Environment variable: "PATH" - This test checks whether the length of the environment variable "PATH" does not exceed the recommended length.
    Expected Value
     : 1023
    Actual Value
     : 1115
     List of errors:
PRVF-3929 : Adding the Oracle binary location to the PATH environment variable will exceed the OS length limit of [ "1023" ] for the variable on the node "admin-HP"  - Cause:  The installer needs to update the PATH environment variable to include the value "%ORACLE_HOME%/bin;". However, doing so will cause PATH to exceed the maximum allowable length that this operating system allows.  - Action:  Ensure that the sum of the lengths of your current PATH environment variable and that of "%ORACLE_HOME%/bin;" does not exceed the operating system limit. Restart the installer after correcting the setting for environment variable.

You must reduce the length of PATH before OUI will proceed.
