    Dear Forum Members,

How to install Oracle software remotely?
Remote Software Installation Steps: (For Solaris only)
If you want to install Oracle Software remotely, you should perform the following steps. These steps are applicable only if your source and target machine are running Unix.
For example, you can install Oracle Software from your home from Washington, DC to a target source in California.
    1. Pick your source server or machine for remote installation.
    2. Check that your CD is in your source CD-ROM drive.
    3. On the target machine, find your target machine name with the output of the /usr/bin/hostname
    4. On the source machine, login as a user.
    5. On the source machine, enable client access: % /usr/openwin/bin/xhost + target-machine-name
    6. Become root user by typing: su (don’t use -)
    7. Check that Volume Manger is running. # ps –ef |grep vold (if you see an entry that contains /usr/sbin/vold, Volume Manager is running. Then skip to Step 10.
    8. If not then do the following: # mkdir –p /cdrom/your-cd-file-name
    9. # mount –F hsfs –r cdrom-device /cdrom/your-cd-file-name
    10. Add the following line to your /etc/dfs/dfstab file: # share –F nfs –o ro /cdrom/your-cd-file-name
    11. Verify whether your source machine is an NFS server: # ps –ef | grep nfsd
    12. If you see an entry that contains /use/lib/nfs/nfsd –a 16, then nfsd is running and skip to Step 16.
    13. If nfsd is running, then type: # /usr/sbin/shareall
    14. If nfsd is not running, then start nfsd by typing: # /etc/init.d/nfs.server start
    15. Verify whether your source machine is an NFS server again by typing: # ps –ef | grep nfsd
    16. Make sure your source machine is exporting your product directory by typing: # /usr/sbin/dfshares
    17. Now, log in to the target machine by type: # rlogin target-machine-name –l user (not root)
    18. Then log in as the root user by typing: # su
    19. Go to the source machine by typing: # cd /net/source-machine/cdrom/your-cd-file-name ,then Skip to 24.
    20. If you cannot change to that directory in Step 19 and you do not have an auto-mounter on your network, then create amount point by typing the following commands.
    21. # mkdir /remote_products
    22. # /usr/sbin/mount –F nfs –r source-machine:/cdrom/your-cd-file-name /remote_products
    23. # cd /remote_products
    24. Redirect the target machine display to source machine by typing: # DISPLAY=source-machine:0; export DISPLAY (if you use a Bourne or Korn shell).
    25. Start the Web Start Installer by typing: # ./installer (or whatever the installer name program is).

  • Do I need to install oracle database 10gr2 before installing Oracle applica

I am new to Oracle application server. I am going to install Oracle application server 10g. From what I read, it looks like I need to install oracle database 10gR2 first on the SAME server? Is that correct?
If I do so, oracle_home will be point to where? to the Oracle application server home directory, or oracle db directory?
Thank you very much for you help.

    hi,
Even i am new to oracle application server and had the same doubt that you have.
When you install Application Server there would be two tiers installed, application tier and middle tier, these tiers can be running from the same machine or different machines.
These tiers will have a meta data repository to store application server related data, this database will be installed along with application server.
It is upto you to install "oracle database 10gR2 " before or after installaion of application server, this will be an independent database which will have its own home, but after this installation you will have three homes, ex: infra_home,mid_home and 10gR2_home.
by default oracle_home is set to the last installation that happens so if you install the database 10gR2 after installing application server it will point to 10gR2_home, but if you install 10gR2 before and application server later then the oracle home will be infra_home(if both the middle tier and infratier are on the same machine)
you can always change the oracle home by using set ORACLE_HOME=path/to/oracle/home( in windows)
    or export ORACLE_HOME=path/to/oracle/home (in unix)
    hope this helps....
    regards

We're installing Solaris 11 and Oracle VM for SPARC so we can install Oracle Database with ASM. There is a requirement when creating the database that the raw disk have an owner that is the same as the database. Everytime we try to change the owner it will always show that the owner is root.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
Please let me know from where you are allocating ASM raw disks for the guest domain.
i hope you are changing the disk permissions using chown -R
Also confirm the permission using command # ls -IL /dev/rdsk

  • Hyperion errors after installing Oracle Database 11G

    Hello,
The company I work for has a bunch of Oracle databases available, two which I connect to (use to connect to). I have multiple applications that I use to connect to these databases, Hyperion Interactive Reporting Studio 9.3.1 being one of them. I'm using Windows XP as my client.
I made the mistake of installing Oracle Database 11G Express Edition and now I cannot connect to any of the database using my applications, but I can connect to the same databases using SQL Developer. When I try connectiing using Hyperion, I get "SQL NATIVE ERROR [12504] SQL MESSAGE [[INTERSOLV][ODBC ORACLE 8 DRIVER][ORACLE 8][ORA-12504; TNS LISTERNER WAS NOT GIVEN THE SERVICE_NAME IN CONNECT DATA".
When connectiing using other company applications, which use the same database, i get "IM006: [INTERSOLV][ODBC ORACLE 8 DRIVER] DRIVERS SQLSETCONNECTATTRFAILED. UNABLE TO CONNECT TO DATABASE. CHECK USER NAME AND PASSWORD AND TRY AGAIN"
I'm assuming that I updated a driver or registry setting and I need to know how to reverse . I also copied a tnsnames and listerner from an associates computer and placed it in the same location on my computer, but this has not helped at all, even after rebooting the computer.
I even double checked and logged onto anothe computer and I can connect to the database using these same applications, so I definetly messed something up locally on my computer.
    Any help is appreciated. Joe.

Probably you could solve odbc driver issues by removing the PATH entry from XE installation.
    It looks something like:
    Path=C:\oracle\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin;<remaining paths>
In system variabels settings, edit PATH to remove the "oraclexe" path and semicolon, leaving only <remaining paths>.
However, removing it will likely have an affect on XE usage. But that may be preferred over other apps working.

  • How to install oracle database 11g express edition on Windows 7

    Hi Guys,
i am trying to download and install Oracle database 11g express edition on windows7 and i can't seem to get it right. i did get the download but when i try to install, it keeps saying it appears to be an invalid archive.
    Please help..

Action - Refer to the logs or contact OracleFinding the problem is the key. "Refer to the logs" is the only option, XE has no oracle support offerings.
Which plugin failed, and why did it fail will be important clues. There should be error messages in the log that will be helpful.
Otherwise, we don't have much help to offer. Fixing a problem means identifying the problem and performing steps to correct it, if there a fix is available.
A MOS lookup on the ins-20802 error has snippets from one installer session, this one is from an x64 install. Not x86. To paraphrase the details:
    ... Created a new file <drive>:<OH path>\cfgtoollogs\configToolAllCommands
    SEVERE: java.io.IOException: Access is denied
...So from those symptoms, the user trying to run the installer does not have appropriate rights on that drive and/or folder. The fix for that particular problem is adding the user to the local administrators group. And rerunning the install. After running the deinstall steps to clean up the installation. As specified in the XE install guide for Windows.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18803/toc.htm
Also note the System Requirements, it specifies a System architecture Intel x86, which is not X64. There is no X64 installer for XE on Windows. So it might work. Or it might not if your host is x64.
So if that is your particular error, verify that your user is in the local admins group. Either use the local users and groups applet (Start/Run/lusrmgr.msc) and open up the Administrators group. Click the Add button. Find your user. If your OS user is a windows domain user, be sure you have authenticated to the domain.
Try the `net ...` list of the adminis group, that should reveal whom is indeed in the local administrators group:
    net localgroup administrators
    Administrator
    <domain>\Domain Admins ... # ??? is the host in windows domain ???
    <domain>\Local Admins
    <domain>\<user1>
    <user2>
    <user3>
    echo %USERNAME%
    # if relevant:
echo %USERDOMAIN%Like it also states in the Windows install guide, under Permission Required quote:
... must be a member of the Administrators group on Windows to install Oracle Database XE.

Can somebody that knows this, or has installed Oracle Express on Ubuntu, to please explain it to me what does it mean and why am I getting those errors. Please explain thoroughly as if I am an amateur person, IN DETAIL, STEP-BY-STEP. I want to run it and make it work! I heard that it encourages people to answer for points. I am open for your suggestions and experiences, as long as it's not 'use common sense', 'you're dumb', or an answer that is vaguely explained.  Thank you for those that take the time to read it.

    Hi Pradeepcmst,
Thanks for your suggestion, but I found it sometimes misunderstanding on what he's trying to say - his instructions are not step-by-step and precise. Instead, I found this link that helped me a lot:

  • The problem of installing oracle database 9.2.0 on Redhat 7.2

    Hi, there,
I meet an error when I want to run runInstaller to install oracle database 9.2.0 on Redhat 7.2 at the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant step:
    ORA-03113:end-of-file on communication channel.
the installer report every other things are installed successfully except Database Configuration Assistant. but after I try to connect to database using sqlplus:
    sqlplus /nolog
    connect / as sysdba
after a very long responding time, there is an interior error. I don't know how to fix it. do I need reinstall the oracle or mannully configure the database? how to do that? my machine is P2 266 with 128M memory. the harddisk is 30GB. I don't know if this problem is caused by memory limitation?
besides, who knows any other forums or website about oracle database installed on linux? I found there is very limit resource about this content on oarcle website.
any hint will be great appreciated!

It could be because of the memory. Oracle 9.x requires 512 MB minimum on Linux. Also the only Red Hat Oracle is now supporting is Advanced Server. But there are workarounds.
There is an excellent web site for installing Oracle on Linux, but it has been down for the last week or two. But try it maybe next week:
