INSTALLATION FRUSTRATION

I have tried time and time again to download ADOBE ACROBAT. It downloads, but then when I click on it I get this message: There is no default application specified to open the document "AdbeRdr90en_USppc.pkg". This is extremely frustrating as I can't seem to find a solution. I have also bought the new iWORK, but have a similar problem with installing that. Please help!

See my post to you elsewhere. Please do not double post.

  • CS3 installation frustrations

    This is frustrating.
I have Vista home premium 64bit.
I've had my CS3 design premium installed on this computer before, so I'm not sure what is different other than I just sent it back to the manufacturer to have the HD replaced.
I've done the jscript and vbscript, ran the installer as admin, after a 2 hour installation process, the only thing that gets installed is Acrobat and the flash encoder, neither of which work properly.
The rest is all failed components.
I have about 30+ hours into this.
    Any other ideas?

I Just battled my CS3 installation on XP sp3 for weeks... but, alas,  there is hope!  I was logging on to call Adobe out on their HORRIBLE  installer.  Oh, if you contact them, they do not support CS3 anymore.   HA. They tell you that your PC may have a problem, or your disc... NOT  THE PROBLEM.  Okay, I guess I'll save the ranting for my own post (and a  little at the end), but hopefully my advice will be some help for you.
After trying almost every  suggestion I could find on here, some blessed soul offered this gem.   Install the products one by one... I know, and it will take 40-60 min  per product, and it will always "repair" shared components (which after a  while will be verify components), but everything installed for me  except the auxiliary content for After Effects (3rd Party did install).   It was sketchy at first, but then started with Version Cue, and  everything else fell in place.  If you do happen to fail when installing  a component, be sure to reinstall one that worked so the failure isn't  the last attempt.  Otherwise, at least for me, the products will not  work due to some licensing failure.
Ok,  so here's how you do it... Close the default window that pops up when  you insert disc 1.  . Then go to start, run, browse to the CS3 folder  from the root of your DVD drive, then choose Setup.exe.  It will go thru  the prompt for serial number the first time, but after that it will  allow you to choose which products to install without that prompt  again.  Click "deselect all" then choose one from the top pane.  It  worked, without copying all your files to the hard drive (HUGE waste of  time), and without trudging thru the installer logs...  For me this is  the only thing that worked.
My  original symptom was that the installer would hang or fail gracefully.  I  did not get any BSOD errors.  Just failure.  Oh yeah, they know about  the problem.  Doesn't matter that you spent 3K on their product  (which I  did download at time of purchase with DVD option) 3-4 years ago.  If  you want to re-install your product on the original PC, tough titty.   Buy the upgrade.  Oh, you want replacement discs?  Sorry... you must  upgrade.  AND ITS NOT THE DISCS YOU LIARS.  Even though you and I and  THOUSANDS OF OTHER HONEST PEOPLE bought their product with an  understanding that it would be usable 3 years later.  NOPE.  Not  supported.  Not their problem.  It’s your hardware or your DVD drive, or  else you must have scratched your discs. PFFF, what a huge load of  crap.
I'll leave you with  this.  Whoever is in charge of customer support at Adobe should be  fired. I pray an innovative competitor comes along and pushes them out  of the business.  I hear that HTML 5 is going to make Flash obsolete...  That's a start.  Screw Adobe and their third-world support approach and  their lack of regard for paying customers.  They're despicable

  • WRT54G installation frustrations

I cannot get this router to work, ipconfig shows correct ip #'s and I cloned the mac address as sharkbyte recommended and did the power re-boot. still unable to connect to internet.  My ISP Comcast Cable says that my modem is working, it is an older Toshiba pcx1100, could this be my problem.  I spent 60 min on phone with linksys support and they had me change several things in the admin. area but to no avail.  It was suggested that the router was bad and to return it---I did---new router---same problems. Any suggestions? thanks

since your running on a cable connection, hardwire first the computer straight to the modem.if it works and can go online.disconnect the modem from the computer then hardwire the computer to any of the regular ports of the router(1,2,3,4). make sure the computer can grab a valid IP address from the router. access the router's setup page(default : 192.168.1.1). use admin for the password and leave the username blank.if your already on the router page, go to the security tab, there is an option there block anonymous internet request, disable or uncheck it and make sure to save the settings.on the setup tab - still do Mac clone(important : make sure you use the computer that is online to the modem). under the basic setup tab - make sure it is selected to obtain IP address automatically under internet connection type and change the local IP address of the router to avoid IP address conflict.power off the router and while the router is still power off, hardwire or connect back the ethernet cable of the modem to the internet port of the router.then power back up the router.make sure the power light is stable, wlan, ethernet port and internet light should lit up.check internet connection - it should work. if it will not work try to power cycle both modem and router for about 5 minutes.to synchronize the connection, power back up the modem first and wait for the lights to be normal then followed by the router and make sure the lights are lit and power light should be stable.internet shold work.if you are using a DSL connection,it's a different type of configuration encrypted on the router.

  • DW-CS4 Installation frustration

Wow! I don't remember a software upgrade as the move from DW8
    to DW10 has
    been so far.
Any suggestions on the following greatly appreciated:
    1. No local Help? Can this be so? When I access Help (F1) I'm
    taken to
Adobe's website instead of an online (local) Help.
    2. Tabs for the Insert panel? In DW8 I can choose a tabbed
    interface. Is
there a similar option in DW10? Now I have to use a drop-down
    to switch from
Common to Forms, etc. Slow & painful.
    3. Modify column headings in Files panel. There seems to be
    no way to do
this. I expanded the panel to show local & remote but
    still cannot add,
    remove or move the columns.
4, Some extensions cannot be enabled. Examples: Cartweaver 3
    & P7-PMM1. How
can this be? How do I enable these extensions.
This is just a start. I will have a Part 2 later. I wish it
    wasn't so. :-(

    You're right....strange. I wonder if anyone knows a way

  • Leopard installation frustration

I have attempted to install Leopard three times (two times to my new MacBook Pro) and once to my existing G5 workstation, having no success.
The MacBook Pro I attempted twice, I got a gray screen and it wouldn't boot up. I called support and they walked me through the same proceedure I went through and got the same result.
I managed to archive my desktop over to the new laptop, and attempted to load Leopard on my G5 workstation and it went into a search for a start up source flashing file/question mark.

    Thanks for the response Tim!
I just bought memtest. My PayPal won't clear until the 4th, so I guess I will have to wait to check it until then. The RAM is new (1GB PC2700 chip bought from Crucial.com). I can't isolate that chip myself because my PB only has 256 MB of built in RAM, which is not enough to run Leopard on its own.
I really have a hard time giving up on getting Leopard to work, but I am getting closer to going back to Tiger every time I see that gray "You need to restart..." screen.
    Thanks again,
    Josh

  • PeopleSoft VM template installation frustration

    Hello,
After PeopleSoft VM setup, application access is fine.
But our Peoplesoft functional guys told me that some of the reports are not working for which COBOL is needed.
This is what VM template documentation says.
Production use of Oracle VM templates that include the running of COBOL processes will require the purchase of a COBOL license since there is only a 30-day evaluation licensed delivered with the templates.
    So
    1. can COBOL be used for 30 days?
    2. How to start COBOL process(es)?
    regards, Yora

Which application template are you using? i.e: Financials or HCM?
Which version of the template are you using? This will be shown in the README file that accompanied the template. i.e: when you extracted the disk images from the zipfile there will have been a README file. Inside that README file the PeopleTools and Application version will be shown. Knowing these will help us comment more accurately.
When you say that some of the reports are not working, does this mean that none of the functionality depending on COBOL works or that a subset of the COBOL based reports are not working? I ask this because it would tell us whether you are having problems with all COBOL based reports. If this were just some COBOL based reports I'd look at it from a non-COBOL perspective. Can you also tell us which reports specifically are not running?
    1. Yes, COBOL can be used for 30 days after which you are required to obtain a COBOL license from Microfocus. This is because Oracle does not distribute Microfocus licenses for use with these VM templates. You need to enter into a license agreement with Microfocus if you plan on using the VM beyond the 30 day evaluation period. The 30 day evaluation period commences when you instantiate the VM from the template for the first time.
    2. You don't start the COBOL processes. COBOL is a set of libraries that are loaded by the PeopleTools processes. Therefore when you start the Process Scheduler and Application Server domains these libraries are loaded into the memory space of the domain processes. This means that when you boot or shutdown the domains using PSAdmin, the necessary COBOL functionality should be available to schedule reports etc.

You are right, Adobe does not support CS5 because it is no longer sold.
Simply download the trial version of CS5 from this Adobe web site and input your serial number.

  • I have a frustrating problem with my iPhone 5 post ios8 installation. The ring tone won't sound when phone is locked/switched off, although the vibration does work. I think it has something to do with "do not disturb"

Hi, I have a frustrating problem that seems to have occurred post iOS 8 installation. When my iphone5 is switched off the ring tone fails to sound i only get the vibration. If i am using my phone and a have an incoming call then the ring tone works as normal. I think it has something to do with "do not disturb" ... i see from the menu in "do not disturb" that under the heading "silence" there are two options "always" and "only when the phone is locked" This does not seem to make sense as i have to choose one or the other!
If anybody can help advise me on this problem i would be very grateful.
    Thanks

    Hello Mogulman46,
So what that means is when you have Do Not Disturb turned on, you may have an alert depending on the setting and how you are using your iPhone. So if it is set to Always, then that means that no matter what, your iPhone will not be notified. If it set to Only while the iPhone is locked, then that means that you will not get notification when your iPhone is locked but you will get notifications if your iPhone is being used. Also keep in mind the settings All Calls From can be set to certain contacts like Favorites, Everyone or no one. If you are using Do Not Disturb and you do not need it, then turn it off.
Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  • Frustrated - Installer does not see all hard drives

Ok. I'm a pretty basic user and here is my situation. I have a G5 with two internal drives. On one drive "A" I have OS X 10.3.9 installed (using that now) on the other internal drive (B) I have 10.4.7. All was working fine using drive "B" as my start up until I used Tech Tool this morning to check/repair volumes on "B". After all the repairs made I tried reboot to OS-X 10.4.7. The choice was there in System Preferences.
No luck, I now only get the black death screen telling me to reboot. Rebooting does nothing except bringing the must shut down and reboot screen. I tried to use my 10.4 Tiger installation disk to reinstall 10.4 on the "B" drive but the Apple installation program doesn't "see" the drive and so doesn't offer it as an option to install to. The program only sees the "A" drive.
I tired to install 10.4 on my "A" drive as an upgrade- I get an "errors" almost immediately after it starts and cannot install the up-grade.
I tried disk utility (from A drive trying to repair B drive)- it cannot "repair" disc B. I can see and use my B harddrive when in 10.3.9 - all programs and files are there and useable - but I can't boot from it nor is it recognized by the Tiger Installation disc. I seem stuck in 10.3.9.
I have a brand new external firewire drive not hooked up - I'm tempted to drag all files from "A" and copy it to the new drive and then reformat the "A" drive and try a clean install on "A" with 10.4. But I'm a bit nervous - if it doesn't work then I'll have no functioning operating system.
Sorry. I'm going a little crazy. Any ideas? I'm frustrated and plan to trash Tech Tool if I ever get back to 10.4.7.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It looks like both your drives have serious problem (that's why Disk Utility says it can't repair and you can't update the system in drive "A"). The fact that you can boot into 10.3.9 doesn't mean that the problems don't exist. In your case I would trust either drive and would do a backup of all the data, reformat the drives and then reinstall everything since the tols you have can't solve the problems.

  • Enormous frustration over Boot Camp installation of Win 7 64bit

Please help, I am totally frustrated after days and days of trying to install windows 7 on my iMac 11,2  (21.5”, i3, mid 2010).
So, my super drive is dead and currently I don’t have an option to replace it. I recently upgraded my OS to 10.8.3. Because my iMac is having an optical drive, in Boot Camp Assistant there was a grayed out option to create bootable USB drive. I edited info.plist file, so I finally got that option right, but no metter what, I can’t boot Windows 7 64bit installation. I’ve tried numerous ways to do that. I tried standard create USB in Boot Camp assistant, I’ve tried Windows download DVD/USB tool, I’ve tried Rufus, BootInIc, I’ve tried more than 10 different Kingston/Verbatim/No name/Corsair/Patriot USB sticks, I’ve tried several WD/Toshiba/Transcend/Silicon Power external drives formatted both fat32 and NTFS (when formatting external drive in fat32, I was reducing the external drive’s size with diskpart/create partition primary commands in windows. EVERY SINGLE TIME after partitioning the hard drive in Boot Camp Assistant, my computer restarts and there was a “No bootable device” screen. I’ve than tried Refit, there I get an option to boot from external drives/usb sticks, but than after clicking on a boot windows from USB I also get the “no bootable device” screen. I’ve tried naming sticks different (because some people are saying that it must be named WININSTALL, but without any success)
Thank you very very much in advance, currently I don’t know what to do next.

If your iMac came with an internal optical drive you can not use the USB port to install Windows. Get the optical drive fixed.

  • Bridge has never launched - Error code 6 on installation - So frustrated with "support" - HELP!

So, I'm going to rant just like everyone else here. It makes me feel better. I spent 11 HOURS on the phone with Adobe's foreign support team yesterday and still, nothing is resolved! At this point, I will not relent until my problem is solved.
    Here's the deal:
I got CS5 Creative Suite Design Standard in October 2010 and installed it on my Mac. I have only learned to use Photoshop and really wanted to use Bridge, but Bridge would never launch. I always got an error that the program quit unexpectedly. I was reluctant to call Adobe knowing I would be on the phone forever. Little did I imagine 11 hours!
Yesterday, I finally called. They said that my initial installation must not have been successful due to permission issues. After 5 people I couldn't understand well and 5 disc uninstall/re-installs, I am still getting the infamous "exit code 6" error upon installation. Photoshop still works, but not Bridge. They said that exit code 6 is a known issue but that it is a generic code and could be caused by many things. The latest thing they asked me to do (at 11PM last night) was send them the error logs from the installation. I did and it could take 24 - 48 hours for them to analyze & respond. I personally don't think they will ever call me back, so I will have to hound them again today.
I don't understand why installing software has to be so freaking hard! The won't give me a new disk to see if I have a bad one, but they say that reading these error logs and acting on them always resolves the issue. Why they didn't say that in hour 4, I don't know.
Has anyone else had this issue? Please tell me what you did to solve it!

Here is a link to Error 6 on a Windows machine.  Although a different OS there may be similarities with your problem.  Might be worth a read.
It is a long thread but look at post #136 for sure.  The fellow solved his problem, in his case a conflict with the anti-virus.
Hope this helps to get you up an running.

  • Frustrated with installation of CS6

I have successfully downloaded CS6- please tell me the next step to actually install the programs- I have unzipped the files and tried to install the Windows installer packages it gives me a message "Please install PDF Settings CS6 using Setup.exe"; I try the set-up.exe and get the installer failed to initialize. This could be due to a missing file, please download Adobe support Advisor to detect the problem.  I try to download the adobe support adviser and IT has BEEN DISCONTINUED?!?!?
    1. I need the steps to actually install CS6
    2. is its possible to get the CS6 installation disc??

adobe installation files should not be 'unzipped'.
for windows you often download an exe and a matching 7z file.  the exe extracts the 7z files and starts the installation process.
for more specific help, what cs6 suite/program are you trying to install?

  • LogMeIn Deployment/Installer and the Persistent Client Install is Frustrating

Every single time the installer runs, it installs the LogMeIn Client. This makes absolutely no sense at all. The Deployment/Installer is intended to be run on HOST systems. HOST systems -- by definition -- don't need the Client. You can suppress the display of the Client after the install by adding "FORCEDISPLAYCLIENT=0" to the command line for the MSI Installer (I use it in a batch file). The Client still installs, but it hides the install. That said,  so it's not really any use in solving the problem. What's even more firstrating is that if you manually remove the "LogMeIn Client" in the Start Menu (for All or individual users), it returns on the next reboot. Why install the Client and then persist in making sure it remains available to the HOST system users? This has been going on for at least two years, and so far nothing, nada, zilch, zip, bupkiss from LogMeIn on a solution.

One idea I had was to change the permission for the program so that even if a user clicked on it it wouldn't run, but that just produces another phone call, "Why can't I run this program? What's the password?". Come on, LMI! Do something about this!

It sounds as though a script on the site, or an advertisement, is not working quite right...
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
    (2) Remove the site's cookies using either of these. Save any pending work first.
While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • Frustration in finding the serial number for installation

I had purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements II a while ago and am just now trying to get it installed onto my computer. It is asking for a serial number that is supposed to be located on the back of the box, but every number that I tried to enter from the back of the box has been rejected. Since I didn't purchase this from Best Buy I haven't tried to remove any of the labels. Any suggestions?
