Installation of BOXI r3.1 on a Database Server

Hi,
I'm in the process of archtecting a BO environment for a project where it is suggested by some (who are not familiar with BO) to have the BOXI Web application installed on the same Oracle DB server that it will be reporting from. I know that there are always constraints on projects to consolidate the use of servers which I have a lot of empathy with; but to do this for BO, I'm not too sure that this is the best way to go. What is SAPs position in regards to supporting such a set up?
Cheers - B

Hi;
it's all a matter of load and ressources, rendering reports or dashboard or any otjer kind of BI object will use ressources, in term of CPU, memory, and even disk space, so as mentionned it is supported, but not recommended, you'd better think about splitting the load from the beginning of your project.
You have to know that your BOE system will contain webapp servers, and native backend servers, and all those will be using ressources. The closest (from a network point of view) to the reporting DB you are, the best it is for sure, but running everything on the same hardware is not recommended for real production systems.
On the other end, your BOE system will need its own databases (at least one for the system repository, and maybe another one for the auditing DB), those ones could be hosted on your existing DB server, that would make sense.
Regards;
Lionel

What does this mean? Do you think this may contain the clue to the answer to this problem?
When I restart the Database I get the same status: unavailable.
I need your help to resolve this problem. The alternative is to revert back to Oracle 9i DB Server. Thank you in advance.

  • SAP BPC installation - Errors during setup in the create database step

Hi! I have a real big problem installing SAP BPC. It's a Microsoft multi-server installation.
I've got two servers: 1) the database server with the SQL Database and Analysis Server 2) the application server with all the rest.
I log on and I installed everything on the servers with a specific domain user: this user is administrator on both servers and even on SQL Server.
My problem occours when I execute the "SAP BPC setup" on the application server: during the "create database" step I receive two errors:
    first error pop-up:
Error ([SQL-DMO]This cache contains no result sets, or the current result set contains no rows.)
    second error pop-up:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot open database "ApShell" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user MyDomain\MyUser
    After the SAP BPC setup:
    - in the SQL Database Engine the ApShell database was created
    - nothing for ApShell was created in Analysis Sever
    - in the Even Viewer of the database server I've got this error: Login failed for user 'MyDomain\MyUser'.
It's very strange because if from the application server, using "SQL Server Management Studio" (always with 'MyDomain\MyUser'), I connect to the database server: I can login, create and delete databases on the SQL Database Engine and even on Analysis Server without any sort of problem.
To complete my status, I can say you Analysis Sever is on the default port. I use SQL Server 2005 and I even tryed to reinstall it and SAP BPC but nothing change.
At this point I checked these two topics on this forum:
Mulit-Server Install - Installation fails while creating AppServer Database
    Problem during BPC installation
    1) At first I tryied this solution:
Into multiserver installation guide is specified that actually in case of multiserver environment you have to copy apshell.db9 file from installation kit into db server. Into a drive from where SQL server is able to read when you are doing restore with Management Studio.
During the installation you have to go into advance options and to specified the path (local path from db server where you did the copy of apshell.db9).
but nothing change: the "SAP BPC setup" problem I have still persists.
    2) Then I tryed this workaround:
If so, you can try a "restore appset" from server manager. Rename the Apshell.db9 file (or copy it) and name it Apshell.bak
During server manager restore, point only to the Apshell.bak file. Server Manager will tell you that webfolders and filedb files are missing, but it found the webfolders and filedb (again, only if the original bpc installation successfully created those folders)- and then it will try to restore Apshell.
That may work in spite of whatever problem is keeping the installation program from performing the same tasks.
but the "restore database" fails > I've got the error written in red: OLAP database - fail
What can I do to solve the problem? If it is necessary, I can reinstall SQL Server and SAP BPC but I need to know the way to solve the setup error.
Thanx very much in advance for your kindness if you can help me.

Thanx very much to everyone for the kind support. Unfortunatly, my problem persists.
    - SQL server is EE.
    - I installed SQL server (including SSAS) using MyDomain\MyUser.
    - MyDomain\MyUser is windows administrator on both servers.
    - MyDomain\MyUser is SQL Server and SSAS administrator.
    - SSAS service is running under the same service account than the SQL Service.
    - All my MSSQL services runs as Local System.
    - I'm installing SAP BPC using MyDomain\MyUser.
    - I also checked the SSAS service account specific rights to the SSAS data folders.
SAP BPC installation still fails exactly as above (popup errors during SAP BPC setup, no ApShell etc. etc).
In the database server, windows event viewer errors after the unsuccessful installation are:
    1) SOURCE: MSSQLSERVER
Failure Audit: Login failed for user MyDomain\MyUser
    2) SOURCE: MSSQLSERVER
BackupDiskFile::OpenMedia: Backup device 'MyPath' failed to open. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.).
As regard as point 1: The Failure Audit error into the event viewer happens only during SAP BPC installation. Otherwise it is always Success Audit.
Also, as I told you, if from the application server I connect with SQL Server console to SSAS, located on the database server, using MyDomain\MyUser: I can create delete SSAS dbs without any sort of problem.
    For point 2:
I tried 4 differents SAP BPC installations as follows:
    - to go into advance options and to specified the path (local path from db server where I did the copy of apshell.db9).
    - to go into advance options and to specified the path (local path from application server where is the copy of apshell.db9).
    - to go into advance options and to specified the path (network path of a share folder with apshell.db9 and permissions to everyone)
    - to don't go into advance options and to don't specify the path.
but every time nothing change: the "SAP BPC setup" problem I have during my initial post still persists. In the same way I written at the beginning of the topic.
I don't know how to solve it.

  • Installation Dialog Box Diseappear

    Dear All,
I have to join my company e-learning which using Java. Since from the verification, it's found out that my computer does not have Java, I installed it by following the normal step. First, I download the installer from internet and then run it to start the installation. The problem comes at this point: after I double clicked the installer, the installation dialog box only appeared for a second before it dissappear and nothing happend!! Seems like my machine is barring the software.
I tried to install two version: jre-1_5_0_11-windows-i586-p-s and jre-6u6-windows-i586-p-s. Both are fail!
I also tried to uninstall any other program (plugin) which is suspected to cause the problem. Still, nothing.
Can anyone help me to solve this problem out, please??
    Regards,
    Lusi

    lusi,
Are you sure that you have downloaded the correct version of java for your operating system and machine architecture?
I presume you're running Bills Revenge (ms windows) because nobody could possibly be THAT stoopid. But there's 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Which are you running. (Right click on My Computer ~ Properties).
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp tells me that jre-6u6-windows-i586-p-s (J2SE 6.6 for Windows XP/Vista/2000/2003 Offline) is 15.18MB ... is your downloaded file 15.18MB... I just guess maybe your connection drops out before it downloads the full install... cheaper ISP's commonly do that (and ludicriously expensive ones every time there's a new tech they want to move everyone onto).
    Cheers. Keith.

  • Installation: problem getting certificate to certify the database

The problem I'm having is when I generate the certificate request for certifying the database.

    Exception ActiveVE [genCertRequest]:

Any thoughts? Apparently the support person my Adobe UK contact would normally talk to is on leave until 9th July :/

Just rechecked the version of the SP that's on the SQL server. In fact, it's already on SP4, so I'm not going to mess with it.
Only thing I'm wondering is whether it's a firewall type blip, as we have the database server on an internal network segment, and the web server (with CS installed) "bridges" the two - i.e. it can see the www as well as the internal network (2 network cards).

  • After updating firefox (on MAC), everytime I start Firefox there is an open installation dialog box - which I cannot figure out how to delete.

I have used Firefox without problem, on my Mac, for several years. I recently updated to v22.0. Now every time I open Firefox, there is a dialog box (marked "Firefox , 2 items") that appears, with the Firefox icon, and arrow pointing right, and a folder icon. It looks like I am asked to install Firefox again. I've done this several times, but the dialog box never disappears. I have right-clicked, and hit "eject firefox only." The dialog disappears, but then reappears the next time I open Firefox. Firefox seems to be functioning normally, but this installation glitch is annoying. How can I resolve this?

More info, in case it helps anyone else with this problem:
I got a PM from waycool007 on 10/12/13 which said,
    Hi Alice -
Thanks for trying to help me - regarding the question regarding the firefox dialog box.
I am opening firefox from the icon on my dock. It then opens the annoying installation/dialog box.
If I open firefox from the applications folder, it actually opens properly.
    ... to which I answered,
You need to close Firefox if open and then delete the Firefox icon that is in the dock. You can then start Firefox from the applications folder and, when the new Firefox icon shows up in the dock, use the control click option to keep it there.
Let me know if this fixes it.
    I just got this reply:
I followed your instructions, and Firefox is now working normally. This has been bugging me for at least two months, and you solved it in a minute. Wow. Thanks!
    (You're welcome!)

  • Performance issue with database server

    Hello,
We have installed ECC 6.0 on HP UX 11.23 OS with Oracle as database.
We have cluster environment in our production severs.
One server as DB-CI installed and other as Dialogue Instance installed.
After installation, the dialogue instance (Application server))works fine but if we login into DB server and execute any t-code It takes too much time or just stuck.
and after that if I go to application and execute that t-code it works fine and after that if I go to database and execute that t-code now even in DB it works fine.
    Kindly guide me.
    Thanks,
    Chandresh Pranami.

    Hi Chandresh,
Check below things for your Database server.
SM50 - Workprocess status busy or wait
ST04 - Data buffer hit ratio
SM37 - Any background job running there.
Normally even if you are login through a diffrent app server the database side execution will happen in db server only.Application server will do the execution but the data read and to be updated will happen in db server only. When the sql request will go to db server may select update..types of sql then it willalways will be processed by db server.
So there will be lot of load already thereIg you execute your work here it will take more time because more load for the application will be there.
    Regards

  • Runtime Repository on local database server only

This is a why question, as I have read the installation and configuration guides and don't see this answer. Please forgive me if I've overlooked it.
I am installing OWB in a client/server fashion; the database server resides on a UNIX platform, the client on Windows. I ran the OWB Repository Assistant from my windows desktop, and the repository owner and its objects were created. However, I see in the manual that the OWB Runtime Assistant must run on the same machine where the database resides. I did so, started up the Runtime Assistant on UNIX and created the Runtime Repository into a new user schema, and then a Runtime Access user. All went well.
It looks to me as if both of these wizards create database objects. Why can the Repository Assistant be executed from the desktop environment, but the Runtime Assistant needs to be executed where the database lives, in my case, UNIX. It seems that only database objects are created, it shouldn't matter where the wizard is run from, as long as a database connection can be made.
I feel like I'm missing a piece of the puzzle, can anyone enlighten me. Perhaps a daemon or service is started that I need to know about?

Perhaps a daemon or service is started that I need to know about? That's it! There are some java-services running outside the database. That's e.g. the reason why you can't deploy to an OS/390 system, because these services are not migrated for this JVM yet.
    Bye

What is the OS version of the PC you are running  and is it physical machine or virtual machine that is running the HRC client ..
OS Version Windows 7 Home Premium  64 bit and it’s a physical machine.
. The Max DB Connections for Report Client Sessions is set to 5 for each servers (There are two servers). The no of HR Sessions is set to 10.
I wanted to know if there is a way to find the HRC sessions active now and terminate the one or more or all of that sessions from the server end ?

We have had this "PRX5" problem with Exchange 2013 since the RTM version.  We recently applied CU3, and it did not correct the problem.  We have seen this problem on every Exchange 2013 we manage.  They are all installations where all roles
are installed on the same Windows server, and in our case, they are all Windows virtual machines using Windows 2012 Hyper-V.
We have tried all the "this fixed it for me" solutions regarding DNS, network cards, host file entries and so forth.  None of those "solutions" made any difference whatsoever.  The occurrence of the temporary error PRX5 seems totally random.
About 2 out of 20 incoming mail test by Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer fail with this PRX5 error.
Most people don't ever notice the issue because remote mail servers retry the connection later.  However, telephone voice mail systems that forward voice message files to email, or other such applications such as your scanner, often don't retry and
simply fail.  Our phone system actually disables all further attempts to send voice mail to a particular user if the PRX5 error is returned when the email is sent by the phone system.
Is Microsoft totally oblivious to this problem?
PRX5 is a serious issue that needs an Exchange team resolution, or at least an acknowledgement that the problem actually does exist and has negative consequences for proper mail flow.

  • Need help Installing OID Repository on existing database server using RepCA

I have an oracle database server running 10g (10.2.0.4) and I want to install metadata repository on it. I downloaded the Application Server Metadata Repository Creation Assistant 10.1.2.0.1 (standard edition).
I find that there are no batch files in the download, just setup.exe. When I run that I am asked for an ORA_HOME - when I provide the home where the database is installed I get the message that the home already has the database and the software cannot be installed on it.
How do I add the repository to an existing instance of oracle database server? Also, is the version I downloaded the right version #
    Thanks

    Hi sameer khan,
first let me ask, are you talking about Netweaver04s (WAS 7.00), in this case my answer can give you some hints.
Note 883948 gives information of the installation of an additional usage tye (like BI JAVA)
You have more than one possibility to install the usage type BI JAVA. The most common installation types are:
    1. BI installation and a separate BI JAVA installation with 2 <SID>
    2. BI JAVA Addin Installation in an existing NW04s
I recommend to use option 1:
In case you install a separate BI-JAVA instance, you need a separate <SID> for your J2EE environment. In this case it is not possible to use the same <SID>. This installation can be done on the same or a separate server. Furthermore, you can use a separate database or install the J2EE instance in the same database (--> MCOD). I recommend to use a separate database. Note: In this installation option, Sapinst normally installs a separate user store. With the usage type BI JAVA it makes (in most cases) sense, to use the user store of the BI system, where it belongs to. If you want to do so, "Revise" the user store option before you start the installation and and choose the production client of the BI system.
If you like to use an Addin Installation, another <SID> is not possible. I would only recommend this kind of installation in test environments.
It doesn't matter, which kind you choose, after installation, you have to do the steps for "Setting up bex Web", see Note 917950. This is sometimes a little bit tricky, with Note 937697 there is a Support Tool, which can help.
    Good luck with your installation
    Kind Regards
    Marc

I have tested that the ODBC connection can connect to the database. The sql query has been dumbed down to select '1' from dual. I have not included the word "select" in the query.
Anyone seen this before? We are in the process of uninstalling the Oracle client completely and re-installing it to see if this solves the issue. We only installed the 64 bit version of the Oracle client. I am running on Windows Enterprise 2008 R2 - 64 bit. EAS, Essbase, EIS are all 64 bit installs. I believe Studio is the only one that is 32bit. However we are not currently using this product.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
With Oracle Support's help, we got 3 of the 5 servers working now. We were using the Datadirect drivers but were configuring them wrong! You have to use the Standard Connection portion in the setup, specifying the Host, Port Number (1521) and the SID. We were using the TNSNames Connection which worked in the past, but apparently does not now.
So I am down to 2 servers not working. They are both Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise 64 bit, running Oracle EPM Essbase 11.1.2.1. When I Open SQL in EAS it prompts for database (Essbase Server, App, DB) and when I hit ok it pops up with "Network error: Cannot Locate Connect Information For []". We did not do any of the suggestions in the document you linked to get the other 3 servers working. When you hit ok on that error, you then get another error stating, "There are no Data Sources defined. 'SQL data sources' option will be disabled". We do have datasources defined on the server.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • BusinessObjects XI 3.1 - Missing MySql Database Server?

    Hi all
I've installed the BusinessObjects XI 3.1 on my desktop and during the installation process i have chosen to install the MySql database server together with it.
I'm now trying to create a database, but i can't seem to locate where the mysql database server is installed on my desktop.
Am i suppose to install something else or did i miss something out?
    Thanks
    jazreeel

BO XI 3.1 server should be installed on Windows Server 2003 or 2008. Windows VIsta is not offcially supported for the installation of the server software.
