How to re-activate 'Mail' after complete successful Time machine re-installation except 'Mail' backup keeps getting stuck?

Trying to re-instal my email history the 'Mail Message Import' dialogue screen says: 'Mail needs to import your messages. This might take a few minutes. You won't be able to use Mail until the import is finished'.
The problem is: after importing 5,000 messages it stops and the 'Time remaining' only keeps adding up to many hours (17 hours). There are almost 80,000 email messages in my Time machine backup.
How to get this working? I am even prepared to give up my email history if i can only get my 'Mail' application working again.

  • Installation of Words and Numbers is stuck in pause

How do I get the download of NUmbers and Words to continue to install?

Numbers is an Apple product. Word is Microsoft.  Do you mean Pages or iWork, not Word, or do you mean Excel or Office, not Numbers?  Or are these two separate and unrelated installations that are failing?
What are you seeing, any error messages or dialog boxes? What have you tried so far to get it to work? Are you installing from the App Store or a disc?  The problem description in your post is very vague. More information will help narrow down the problem.

  • Silent installation for FMW products command prompt stuck!!

    Hi All,
I am working on silent installation of Oracle FMW components, I am using the response file approach and Oracle Universal Installer. The aim is to integrate these installation commands to continuous integration tools like Jenkins/ControlTier.
When the installation finishes, the current shell still holds the prompt. I need to press ENTER to get out. The problem If I integrate them with this tools their flow does not end up, as command prompt does not return. In addition to that I need the returned execution status (echo $?) for evaluating the process.
I have tried launching it in background but did not work, any ideas ?
They say, silent does not require user interaction still we have to press ENTER to exit the console (silent + GUI).
    Please suggest.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bhaskar

  • Installation Time Capsule. Airport configuration stuck in a loop due to resetting - quid ?

Recently re-joined apple community with MBA and time capsule for back-up and additional disk space.
My Time capsule never was properly installed, although I did manage to put some documents on the hard disk of my time capsule (so I think). It never gave me the green light, though. Keeps on flashing amber (for 3 weeks now). 4 days ago I pushed the button "reset" in the airport configuration program. Now this program is stuck in somekind of loop, preventing me from closing down the program and shutting down my MBA.
Can anyone help me out? Is there somekind of ctrl+alt+delete fast key that I can use to force shut down of the airport configuration program?
    thx

Right Click on the icon down the bottom of the screen.. and hold down option key.. force quit will appear.. it is your crtl+alt+del key combo.
Disconnect the TC from whatever you have it plugged into.. power it down.. hold in reset.. power on again.. and keep holding reset until front led flashes rapidly.. then open airport utility again and reconfigure it.. This time in bridge.. and create a wireless network. update and plug it into the main router by ethernet. Using wireless joining is not really good enough or reliable enough to bother with.

  • Has anyone encounter a Grey Screen with spinning wheel stuck (frozen waited more than 5h) in after running Lion Installer from SL?

    Hi
I've tried almost everything on my Macbook Pro 8,2 (i7 2.0Ghz).
    Wipe/Erase the SL partition.
Burned the ESD dmg to a DVD.
Reset SMC,PRAM and NVRAM many times.
    Run Repair Disk. Passed OK.
    Run Hardware Test. Passed OK.
Download the Lion Installer 4 times. MD5 Passed.
Everytime I've tried to install lion it give me this Grey screen... The mouse wheel start spinning and it then stops, and nothing happens from that point. (Also rebooted many, many times same result).
SL Install disk runs fine, even installing it from Zero. I've setted up time machine. (The restore to definetly works also the SL installation too)
I'm a little far away to send my Macbook to a customer service.
    What else should I try?
    :S
    VR

    Thank you very much William
I ran the installer and saw the same screen stuck... After I used Shift to boot in safe mode, I got the 3 beeps with grey screen apple logo. So then I rebooted into Single User do the 'nvram boot-args="-x -v"' and voila the installer continued with no issues I've turned back de 'nvram boot-args=""' and everything seems to be working fine.
Really weird beahviour of the installer with my Mac.
    Thanks.

  • BO Edge 4.0 Installer stuck on "Run command-line executable"

    Hi,
Our BO Edge BI Server 4.0 Installer on Windows Server 2008R2 is stuck on one of the last steps; "Run command-line executable".
Before is was stuck on "WaitForCMSForTheFirstTime". We upped the RAM to 16GB and then the installer went past this, but after a full reset of the server and trying again it is now stuck a few steps later on "Run command-line executable". This is very frustrating, especially since there is no error message at all, no install log and the installer is just stuck indefinitely and we had to cancel it.
At that point the Central Configuration Manager shows this:
    Apache Tomcat - Running
    BW Publisher Service - Stopped
SAP BO Mobile Authentication Server - Stopped
SAP BO Mobile Processing Server - Stopped
    Server Intelligence Agent - Running
We can't deinstall from Windows to start over at this point because the installer says an install is in progress.
    What is going on?
    Help urgently needed and appreciated

    Hello,
Yes, certain stages run for a long duration. "Run command-line executbale" runs for atleast 45 mins. It's normal.
My suggestion would be to leave it for 45 mins-90 mins.
Now that you have interrupted your installtion, try uninstalling it through the control panel.
In case you can't see the software there, then you have to edit registry entries, which is very tiresome.
    Regards,
    Sonia

  • Installation stuck in a loop

I went to NBC Sports on line to watch sports. It appeared I needed to download an app to view the game. After several tries (installing the app without it letting view the game) it finally became clear that the Download had nothing to do with viewing a game. But the installation of the app has become stuck in the system. Every time I shut the computer down (MacBook Air — Mavericks) a message appears asking me to "Continue Installation or Abort". I've tried both, but the situation always returns. There were two Downloads: one was something called RAR, the other finally revealed itself to be an app to manage music on the computer.
I Trashed everything I could find, but it did not good. Any ideas?
I do not see a community that seems to fit, so am using Apple works

    Problem description:
A botched (and unwanted) Installation tries to finish its job each time I shut the computer down. The problem may also account for my Video Download Helper (Firefox) no longer working. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

  • Logic board replaced...asking me to reinstall OS X Lion, but stuck on "loading installation information" for 4 hours. What to do?

I had to have the logic board in my 7 month old iMac replaced due to the fact that my now exboyfriend put a firmware password on my iMac remotely and I couldn't get into my computer. I took it to the Genius Bar and they replaced the logic board so I wouldn't lose any of my files. I just got it back and when I turned it on, it is asking me to reinstall OS X Lion. So, after hitting continue, a box comes up telling me that they have to verify the computer's eligibility with Apple and that it is "loading Installation Information". I've been stuck on this screen for 4 hours, at a 18.25 mbps download speed. What do I need to do? Tried searching forums, but nothing really gives an answer.

Take it back to the Apple Store and make them fix it.

After finally forcing a shutdown, the system wasn't able to right itself after that. I had her try booting into safe mode, but the machine still couldn't resolve itself. I tried to get her to do an Install and Archive, using the system disk, but halfway through the operation, the installation got stuck.
After backing up all her data to a friends Mac, she was eventually forced to reinstall the system and start fresh, erasing everything. Somehow, this went without a hitch. She then dragged her personal files back on, and went back to her business.
She came home, and I tried to give her update 10.4.11. After that installation was complete, the system got stuck in the shutdown process. After seeing it herself, my sister said that's exactly the same thing it did when she tried to run the update on it at school. After a forced shutdown, verbose mode brought back several errors upon startup and the system got hung up. Booting in safe mode seemed to resolve enough errors to allow the system to boot fully. The system now said it was 10.4.11, so I assume that things somehow worked themselves out.
I thought these problems she had been having were simple flukes, bad luck, until I tried to give her this last update. First I repaired her permissions, then I tried to run Security Update 2007-009 and the system got stuck halfway through, I had no choice but to force shutdown. I decided not to try to finish the update, she had to leave soon and she needed to have the computer for her school work. I didn't have enough time to figure out what was up, so I just decided I'd try to install iLife. Oddly enough, the installation of iLife suffered the same problems.
Installations all seem to result in the following:
1 - I have my Activity Monitor running all the time and the icon set to show CPU usage. Just before the installation gets stuck, the CPU usage drops down to almost zero.
2 - The CPU usage icon freezes where it is, at near zero.
3 - You can hear the read head of the hard drive shuffling around in a very rhythmic way, as if it's stuck in a loop.
4 - The system becomes unresponsive to the point that all you can do is move the mouse.
When the system got stuck in the shutdown process after the 10.4.11 update, the MacBook had a completely black screen, symptom 3 was apparent, the power light came on, and the cooling fan eventually reached what seemed to be full speed.
So, installations operations are seeming to go horribly wrong even after a fresh install. It would seem to me that there is something wrong with the hard drive, but the computer doesn't seem to have problems doing relatively simple tasks like editing documents. I'm not sure what to think of this whole situation. What would these symptoms seem to indicate is the problem?

bad to worse. The system just tanked again, major freeze - resulting in the need to do yet another forced shutdown, it won't startup, install & archive fails, and trying to zero out the hard drive results in an error, it can't be done!
She's off at college, nowhere near an Apple Store. She really needs this computer for her school work. What should she do?
Are Fujitsu hard drives notoriously unreliable?

  • Very slow and unsuccessful windows 8.1 installation on latest imac 5 k retina display

When i bought my 5k retina imac 3 months ago i decided i also wanted to have windows 8.1 in it. For the first time last week i wasnt able to boot windows as it would get stuck on the windows logo screen. After several failed attempts i decided to unpartition my drive using bootcamp and remove windows and then reinstall it from scratch. The installation process is really slow, it takes a good 2 hours to get passed the first part of windows installation and then it either gets stuck on a windows logo when it restarts automatically or when i reach the bootcamp drivers installation it just never gets passed that. The installation interface is also very laggy, for example when i click next it takes a minute or two to load the next part.
I have tried reinstalling the whole ios using recovery hd and internet recovery and i have also verified my disk using disk utility. Although everything works fine on the mac side and disks are allright , i cannot install windows due to the problem mentioned above. I have tried everything in my knowledge and this is really frustrating as its a new machine, please help me out, cheers.

  • [Solved]Can't finish The Hobbit installation with virtual drive

Is there any way that I could combine two iso files into one so that I could finish The Hobbit installation process.  I always get stuck at the point where it asks for the second disk and gnome-disk-utility won't unmount the first ISO because it's still in use by the installation process.
    I tried doing this
    $ sudo mount -t iso9660 -o loop disc1-mountpoint
    $ sudo mount -t iso9660 -o loop disc2-mountpoint
    $ sudo mkisofs -l -J -R -o dvd.iso disc1-mountpoint disc2-mountpoint
    and here's what I got
I: -input-charset not specified, using utf-8 (detected in locale settings)
    Using BILBO000.ICO;1 for /bilbo.ico (bilbo.ico)
    Using AUTORUN000.INF;1 for /Autorun.inf (Autorun.inf)
genisoimage: Error: '/media/dc/bilbo.ico' and '/media/live/bilbo.ico' have the same Rock Ridge name 'bilbo.ico'.
genisoimage: Error: '/media/dc/Autorun.inf' and '/media/live/Autorun.inf' have the same Rock Ridge name 'Autorun.inf'.
    Unable to sort directory
NOTE: multiple source directories have been specified and merged into the root
of the filesystem. Check your program arguments. genisoimage is not tar.
So here's what I'm currently trying right now.
    $ cat HobbitCD1.iso > The_Hobbit.iso
    $ cat HobbitCD2.iso >> The_Hobbit.iso
Okay, so doing that didn't return any errors, now to see if I can finish the installation with the new ISO file.
Nope it still asks for disk 2.  So the real question is how can I force the first disk to unmount so that I can replace it with the second disk?

progandy wrote:Why don't you try this?
Manually mount the first iso image, begin installation, forcibly unmount old iso, mount new iso, continue installation.
Oh, you can forcibly unmount something?!
    (read the manpage for umount)
    Oh, whaddaya know, you can.
    from umount's manpage
-f Force umount (in case of an unreachable NFS system). (Requires kernel 2.1.116 or later.)
I dunno why I didn't think to check the manpage for umount.  Sorry, my bad.
EDIT: Okay, so forcibly unmounting the iso didn't work.  I was able to force umount, but I couldn't disassociate the /dev/loop2 from the HobbitCD1.iso file.  losetup doesn't seem to support forcing.  I think that I better just install this under Windows and then copy and paste the installed files to my external hard drive and then move them onto my laptop from there.  =/ Not really what I was looking for, though.

  • JDE 9 Installation Issues...

    Hello,
I'm not really sure which forum to post this in so hopefully I chose the correct one.
I'm following the "Applications Installation Guide (Oracle)" which starts by talking about installing the E1Local database, the Deployment Server, and now the "Platform Pack."
It actually took me a while to find which thing that I had downloaded was the platform pack. I realized, eventually, that it was talking about something I have labelled "Enterprise Server." All of the installer forms and stuff seem to correlate to the images in the manual.
What I did, from start to where I am now is this:
    1) Installed the default E1Local DB from the Deployment Server "Install Manager"
    2) Installed an x86 oracle client (with runtime)
    3) put the tnsnames.ora file in there.
    4) Installed the Deployment Server
    5) Started installing the "Platform Pack" / "Enterprise Server"
When I click "Next" a few times (Typical installation / Install / etc) I get to a page asking me for "Oracle Database Information." The fields follow:
    1) Connect String (Default "orcl") - is this the name of my E1Local db or a name for a NEW db? What should I put in here, or should I keep the "orcl" default?
    2) SYSADMIN User
    3) SYSADMIN Password - I had no part in setting this up, I just used the defaults in the previous install manager. I think it's supposed to be "admin"? Or, is this what I want the SYSADMIN's password in my "new" db?
    4) "Have you pre-created the tablespaces?" Uhh... no?
    5,6) some directories
    7) Run Scripts Option - doesn't bother me to "Run Scripts Automatically" for now...
When I click "Next," it gives me a message such as "Cannot spawn command. %1%" with the option to stop installation of all products or just this component.
What do I do? Do I need to install a separate database at this point?

You are 100% correct, but I don't intend to use JDE for its "intended purpose." My task is to see if there is something useful we can do by integrating with it. Perhaps consume web services or something like that... We did a similar thing for Oracle EBS, which is also a very large and complex program. I don't know how this stacks up to that but we'll see...
So hopefully I won't need training after all, just some guidance on getting this thing up and running.
My installer for the E.S. is stuck at 99% now for many hours with the message "spawning [...]\InstallOracleDatabase.bat" Any idea why?
EDIT: Nevermind, it eventually came back "unsuccessful." I'll just try reinstalling.

This is caused by bash and not by sed. Bash 3.1 shipped FC5 is buggy.
So download bash-3.0 from FC4 and install it using "rpm -ivh ... --force" command.

  • What will happen if I quit the installer?

What will happen if I quit the installer? It seems to be stuck a the last step "Time Remaining: About a minute"but the installer application is responsive. What are the consequences of quiting the installer?

See if you can boot off another disk( Tiger, Panther,) go to Disk utility, and erase the drive.
Eject the disk and boot up the Leopard disk and install.
Boot by holding down the c key till the install screen appears.
