Installation problems in Snow Leopard & Snow Leopard Server

1. I have a big problem if I had to live with SL Server, whether I should install software in Administrator Account or a Standard Account(Which many people told us to create a Standard Account for better security and stability), but there are problems, no matter which account to install software, turns out you will have to fill the code again on both accounts(Standard Account and Admin Account), it is really a big problem because I have plenty of registered software. Do I have to do twice on each software? It's really a big hassle.
2. So, What do I do now? Which account should I install software? Standard Account or Administrator Account?
3. Can I use Ethernet cable to link two Mac mini and use Target mode on Server and try to install Snow Leopard from the other Mac min Snow Leopard? (If this can be done, it will solve all my problems). Any idea please?

Then you should be fine. The basic installation process is straightforward and will update your system without losing any data. Simply insert the installation DVD and double-click the 'Install' icon (this while still booted from your system).

I have to let the battery run down for it to turn off. I think a big part of the problem is that someon one the internet (the hacker) was mirroring my hard drive. It seems to have locked up my system. I could be wrong about this guess, though. All I do know is that it is now looping on the last 4 iems, and I can't do anything.
Well, I can get it to turn on, but all it does is continously try to delete the last 4 items. When I try to reload Snow Leopard, it tells me my hard drive is full and that I need to delete items.
Can anyone help? I am so lost without my Mac. I am back on the PC, and though it works, I'm sure many of you will understand when I say it's just not a Mac.

Everything was going smoothly until I got to the reinstall part. I had to choose to reinstall on a hard drive or network drive. I've never used a network drive; just the hard drive. It seems that's where the troubles began. I selected the hard drive. It seemed to go well, and then I got the message that I needed to delete some files because I was out of space. I chose to get rid of my music files, but, there were only 636. I don't know what the rest of the files were. I was using the Secure Empty Trash command.
That was my first time doing an erase and install. I tried to do it again, but I now get a continuous error telling me that my hard drive is full and I must delete files. Only I can't delete files because 4 files are still being deleted and my computer won't let me stop the process.
I found out about the hackers mostly by the fact that whenever I used to watch something like Hulu or Netflix, I never had problems with internet connection or speed. Lately, I had internet connection problems. I went in to check my settings for my internet provider and found out the settings had been changed to public and all these extra computers were connected to my network.

I am currently running Mac OS Server 10.6 Leopard Snow running on my Mac Mini.
Have recently upgraded from previous version of Mac OS Server 10.5
I wanted to connect a client computer (does not matter my Mac Pro or my Mac Book - same results) to the server.
Doing the following: go the system preferences -> Accounts - Login -> and you get the option "Network Account Server" click on join.
My server pops up. My server is on 10.0.1.2 (tried to use server name as well IP address).
So type in the server name and get the following option:
"The server 10.0.1.2 offers Address boek, iChat, Mail... etc.. The I am selecting "Set Up Services",
Type in my name and password. and press continue.
Then I am getting the following message: "Joining the server 10.0.1.2 failed: kGotAuthenticationFailure"
I can go back (is option) and fill in my password again - but that is not the issue because I am putting the right password.
My question: I there any one who had the same issue, and how can I resolve this.
Look forward to any response.

Yes you solved your own question, use printer handles color, whcih shodul have been the default. If you do want to experiment with Photohsop manages color, try the CMYK profiles, and send a cmyk file. Only exception is if you print to one of the few RGB printers like a lambda.

reboot, hold cmd R. go to the lion revovery partition, go to disk utility, verify disk, repair disk, you'll probably see errors that get fixed, reinstall lion from same area after exitting out of disk utility....

Can I use Snow Leopard and Leopard on different partitions?

My new MacBook Pro did not include a Snow Leopard installation disk, and I desperately need to use Boot Camp to install Windows asap. I do have my old Leopard disk. Will using the previous OS with Boot Camp cause a cat fight that will produce problems, or should I suffer the serious inconvenience of waiting until I can get a SL disk?

Order replacement installer disks from Apple as it includes the free iLife that comes with a new Mac.
The $29 Snow Leopard retail disk does not. However it's possbile to install Leopard from the installer disks then upgrade to Snow Leopard, thus getting your iLife.

Upgrade from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard without Leopard?

I'm trying to upgrade from OS X 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard. (At this point it's been such a headache that I don't even care about Lion.) If I've read correctly, I need to first upgrade to OS X 10.5 Leopard. The only problem is that I can't seem to find it anywhere on the Apple site. I even searched for the Mac Box Set that included Leopard, Snow Leopard, and iLife and can't find it either. I went to an Apple store today and they didn't even Snow Leopard on the shelf. Anyone know how I can get from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard? Do I still need to go to Leopard first? I tried looking at the requirements/tech specs for the Snow Leopard install disc in the online store, but that link takes me straight to the tech specs for Lion. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You read correctly, but that info isn't correct, if your Mac can hadle 10.6 then the $29 Disc will install on 10.4.x...

You can upgrade from 10.4 to10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 will run under 10.6. You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... Once you are at 10.6.8 you can buy Lion from the App Store if you have at least a model 2,1 MacBook. Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. Also Lion doesn't run any PowerPC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. WhenSystem Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need an application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. First, your Mac model must be able to run Leopard. Second, you would have to partition your hard drive to create a second volume then install Leopard on the new volume using a Leopard installer DVD.

Downgrading from Snow Leopard to Leopard: Best Practices?

Hey everyone. Snow Leopard isn't working out for me (slowness, crashing, etc.), so I plan on downgrading back to Leopard for the foreseeable future via a clean install.
I utilize Time Machine with an external hard drive, within contains all of my files/documents/music for two user accounts. When I downgrade to Leopard, can I simply restore these accounts/files using migration assistant? Or am I going to have a problem restoring Snow Leopard backups to Leopard?
Finally, is this the best way to go about this process, or is there a better way?

Snow Leopard is simply running like crap. Everything is slower. Crashes occur. Neither of which was the case with Leopard. I think it is safe to say that my problems are manifestations of Snow Leopard, not OS X (or Leopard) in general.
Snow Leopard as a whole should not cause such issues. It is obvious you have some contributing factor that would be much easier to isolate than backtracking to 10.5, unless of course you have a clone or Time Machine backup of your system when it was in 10.5.
How big is your hard drive, and how full is it? If there is less than 15% + 9 GB free, you need to free up space based on past user experience. See my FAQ*:

As it can bring over a lot of old applications and drivers that don't work with Snow Leopard.
Do you have any peripherals that are not known to be 10.6 compatible? See my upgrade FAQ above for references to utilities or applications that are not yet 10.6 compatible. If they aren't listed in those references, chances are they either are not compatible or may be more compatible if they are enabled/disabled to run in 64 bit, or Rosetta mode.
To change the 64 bit or Rosetta mode in your application, click on it once in the Finder, and select Get Info. A checkbox should reveal whether or not it can run in a different mode if it is available.
By default Snow Leopard is in 32 bit mode as an operating system. You may be able to enable 64 bit operating system if all your applications can run with it, following one of these steps:

If none of those help, you may simply have a hardware issue with your machine that simply manifests itself more frequently with Snow Leopard. Sometimes these can be isolated with the hardware test. Anyone using a mini as a Leopard-Snow Leopard dual boot?

I have Leopard (10.5.8) and Snow Leopard (10.6.4) installed on my mini for dual booting, and when I reboot from Snow Leopard into Leopard, the video card output is completely distorted. I have to restart a second time in Leopard to resolve this.
Anyone else using a Leopard-Snow Leopard mini and are you having/not having display problems?
Note this might be specific to Snow Leopard 10.6.4.

A strange thing happened. When using Snow Leopard, I opened the desktop folder for the Leopard volume in icon view and moved some of the icons around.
Then when I rebooted into Leopard the display problem didn't happen (although there was still some weirdness with the blue screen being chopped up during bootup). I found all the icons on my Leopard desktop were de-arranged. I started manually rearranging them and then did "Clean Up Selection" on some, and the display problem suddenly occurred.
So this is looking like it might be something to do with the DS_Store file. My theory:
1. Snow Leopard does something to the video ROM that either:
— A. requires some new DS_Store format, or
— B. is just buggy with certain complex DS_Store data (note that I have ~100 icons on the Leopard desktop, carefully arranged and colored)
2. When I rearranged the icons in Snow Leopard, this either:
— A. wrote a Snow Leopard-style DS_Store file for the Leopard desktop, or
— B. just wrote a simpler DS_Store file that didn't have the problem complex data
3. Then back in Leopard when I fiddled with the icons, this wrote a new DS_Store file (either older Leopard format, or just more complex)
4. The video card was still in "Snow Leopard mode" at this point as I hadn't rebooted Leopard a second time, so the desktop display went distorted as soon as the new DS_Store file went into effect.
5. For some reason Leopard will write over the bad/new settings Snow Leopard writes to the video ROM, but only on the second restart.

Upgrade from Tiger (g4 ibook) to leopard/ snow leopard? Please help!

I know a fairly knowledgeable when it comes to the lovely apple mac, but i am getting a little lost in a load of jargon on forums about whether you can update the software on a G4 ibook from Tiger (10.4.11) to something more recent (leopard/snow) which supports iLife '09.
The ibook G4 is an old laptop and I also have a Macbook which I leave at the office which runs off leopard. Can I t-boot and upgrade my software on my old G4?
If so, step by step dummy instructions would be soooo fantastic, if anyone would be kind enough to break it down for me

There's also a Verify button there, but may as well Repair, which verifies also.
Do you have a referral for obtaining new disc at reasonable price for this procedure or what I should expect to pay? Or just hunt?
If apple still has it, $129, if hunting, make sure it's not a Gray machine specific Disc, which are all Intel only also.
If Apple, you have to call Apple & likely ask for a Product Specialist to get it, if they still have it!

Second, how have others addressed this lost (i.e. other software programs)? The cheaper the software package the better with FREE being the ideal.

If you install Snow Leopard, make sure during the install to open the Optional install items. You must turn Rosetta on, which is not installed by default (necessary to run older PowerPC apps such as Office 2004). If you miss the installation of Rosetta, it can still be installed after the fact a couple of ways.
