Installed programs have different permissions than package

I am using testing, so I installed the new kernel and nvidia driver today.  The directories in the kernel and nvidia packages are all 755.  However, when the package was installed and the new directories were created, the permissions were 2755.  This isn't a problem, but something is happening to cause the kernel to be installed with different folder permissions than are in the package.
The kernel is the only package I am having this issue with.
Edit:
This only happened on one of my computers, and if I try to correct the permissions with chmod, nothing happens and the permissions remain the same...

This happens to me on my workstation. Every PKG I install have that permission warning message, but my stuff still works... don't really care. Perhaps the dev can look into it when they have time.

  • How to gain different permissions than the user's current logon provides?

I have a computer on a local network which contains a shared folder, and I've granted reading permissions for all users.
How can I grant a certain Java application, or gain from a certain application, which a user running on a different computer, permission to write to that folder without granting this user the permission?
Basically I need to create a situation when the other users can add files to the folder only through my Java application.
    Thanks.

You are right i wouldn't like to change owner. But I would like the program to be able identify itself as a different user who has writing privileges, or something of that sort, in order for it to have permissions. Something similar to the 'runas' command in windows.

  • Installing to a different drive than C

All my CC apps are installed under C:\Program Files.  When I installed them, I don't remember having the option of installing them someplace other than C: drive.  Right now my C: drive is getting very full.  How can I uninstall my CC apps from the C: drive and re-install them on a separate internal drive where I have more room?
    Robert

I changed the default location, after which cc immediately showed CC is not installed (even though it was obviously still there on the C: drive.
then I used add remove programs to uninstall CC (and CC2014 as it happens)
    then I rebooted my PC
then I asked CC to install CC(2014)
    it put it on C:
Is there a bug outstanding for this?
Is it likely to get fixed soon?  my C: drive is dangrously full.
I suppose I could throw all my toys out of the pram, install windows to D: and then let dumb adobe applications use C, but this would be a long and tedious process, which may well fail for other reasons along the way. (I haven't installed windows on other than C: since windows 2000, and that was not fun either)

  • REBRANDING?? I have different product than box says!! Neo4 or SLI Platinum!?

ok. I have been wondering now for a while why my SLI only works with one set of drivers (very old ones 66.77). I got to looking around and found a site http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/other/111 that introduced to me that there are a few different mainboards with very similar and in my case, contradicting names. There are 3, the K8N Diamond with SLI, the K8N Neo4 Platinum, and the K8N SLI Platinum. Well, I bought the K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum from newegg and it came in the box. Here is a picture of the box it came in:
It clearly says K8N Neo4/SLI on it. However, when I tried to update the BIOS to possibly fix the problem with the SLI 1 driver thing, I found out that I have the incorrect BIOS version. This version: W7100NMS v3. Here is a pic:
This made me wonder, because this is a 7100, and not the 7125 as MSI's website says a Neo4 Platinum SLI is. I mean, it says Platinum when in starts up:
So, I took a closer look and examined the mobo itself and found a little sticker on the mobo that says this:
This is the problem, because of these three sites http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/other/111, the board that I have is a combination of 2 of the boards.
The picture of my board and the features exactlly matches the K8N SLI Platinum on this site http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=641, HERE IS A PIC (LOOKS JUST LIKE MINE EXCEPT MINE HAS A STICKER THAT SAYS K8N NEO4 PLATINUM however the name of my board is a combination a few of the boards. (Namely this one (the neo4!!) http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=637.
This is crazy , so I don't know what happened here. I got the board I was supposed to get because it has SLI and all the other stuff, but it was listed under the name of neo4 platiunum SLI. Even the American MSI site has it named Neo4 Platinum/SLI here http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum/SLI&class=mb
Ok, so maybe the boxes can be used with both Neo4 Platinum and SLI Platinum? Maybe the sticker on my motherboard is wrong and that is causing all of the massive confusion for me?? MSI is still mislabeling the board in the bios section and on their american site, the tw site is fine I guess, just the name is not the same as mine.
Does anyone understand what I am saying? Can anyone make sense of what I am saying and find an answer? I still can't get SLI to work with anyhting other than v 66.77 drivers. :-(

Okay, maybe I'm just too tired, but I think you're confusing things in your own head a bit, to be honest.
The MS-7100 IS the Neo4 Platinum SLI.  It will have two x16 PCI-E slots and the SLI card in between them for setting the slots for x8/x8 in SLI mode, or x16/x1 for single graphic card mode.  The MS-7125 is the Neo4 Platinum, which I do believe is the NForce 4 Ultra chipset board.  It has one x16 slot, and if memory serves a x4 PCI-E slot, and one x1 PCI-E slots.  It's not an SLI board, the BIOS for the MSI Neo4 Platinum is NOT for the MSI Neo4 Platinum SLI.
    From MSI's USA site:
    K8N Neo 4 Platinum SLI:  http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum/SLI&class=mb
    K8N Neo 4 Platinum:  http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum&class=mb
Those are, best of my knowledge the two NForce 4 boards so far released for North America.
NOW, the K8N Diamond was released everywhere else other then North America.  It is the same board as the K8N Neo 4 Platinum SLI except for some minor details.  I think there's a sideways blowing fan for the MOSFET heatsink near the CPU, the K8N Diamonds may (or may not) have came with a wi-fi card, and the K8N Diamond also includes a little card with log-on details for a forum only open to people who buy that board.  It's otherwise the same as a k8N Neo 4 Platinum SLI...I should know, I have a k8n Neo 4 Platinum SLI, and I put on a beta BIOS for a k8N Diamond, runs fine.
As an aside, mine has a sticker for the name badge instead of being silk screened on also, right above the primary x16 PCI-E slot.  Never pulled mine off, but I wouldn't be shocked if it says K8N Diamond under it.
Why they did a Diamond for the rest of the planet, K8N Neo 4 Platinum SLI for North America, I don't know...but I've seen that a lot with film cameras and some digital...a Canon EOS A2e in the USA is a Canon EOS 5 for the rest of the planet. If you go to Canon's online museuem, they show where they rebadge the same camera body for different nations...in some cases, you'll even see 3 rebadgings, a North American, an European one and an Asian one, all otherwise the same camera except for a minor feature.
So anyway...never seen it with motherboards until now, but I guess they are starting to do the same, make variants of the same exact board for each major market.
EDIT:  Forgot to mention, but as I said, I also have your motherboard.  I'm using beta Graphics driver 71.20, got it from www.guru3d.com, and it works well for me.  Tried a couple others there, and they were iffy, so I'd suggest 71.20 personally.

  • Cannot open installed programs? Insufficient permissions?

My apologies if this question has already been answered, or if I'm posting in the wrong place. We just got two lovely new macs in the library - one is a 20 inch iMac running leopard, to supplement our two eMacs running Panther and Tiger respectively. On the iMac, I asked that Final Cut Express and iWork be preinstalled. The disks came with the machine and I installed them today, typing in the registration codes when prompted. However, both times I got a message that the user (I was installing from the kids' desktop, which is a standard account) did not have sufficient privileges to complete the installation. After this, I was prompted for my administrator's code, typed it in, and completed the installation.
Here's the result: I can run both programs from the library desktop, but neither one will open from the teen's desktop. And I want the kids to be able to use the programs! I also keep getting asked for the registration numbers; the computer doesn't seem to remember that I already entered it. We had similar problems on the eMacs when we gave the kids a limited account, but they were mostly solved when we changed that to a standard account, which is what we have on the new iMac.
I'm sorry if this is unclear, but leopard is brand new to me, and I still don't feel as expert with OS X as I was with the classic OS. It is a beautiful machine, though! I hope we'll be able to get those programs working for the kids - all the preinstalled programs are working beautifully. TIA!

For some reason the programs are working now. I don't know how or why, which is frustrating, but the good thing is that they are working.

  • How do I install to a different drive than C drive? I could not find the option for where to install it.

I use a solid state to boot faster but it is so small that windows needs most of it. How do I install to the drive that I keep my programs on? Where is the option to choose the install location?
    Thanks
    Chris

Not a direct answer to your question, but...  As a "think outside the box" possibility, Crucial MX100 512GB drives are now only about 200 bucks.  Check Amazon or Newegg.
Having your programs on the SSD too means they load much faster.

  • HT1657 why does iTunes store have different content than AppleTV?

I just tried to rent Ghostbusters on AppleTV and it isn't listed. But it is available on iTunes on my desktop computer. How do you sync these up?
    Thanks,
    Louise

    Welcome to the Apple community.
The Apple TV allows you to choose a preferred resolution for your movies and TV shows. Depending on which resolution you have chosen, only those movies and TV shows available in that resolution will be available for purchase or rent. This will likely explain the differences that you see between the iTunes Store on your computer andthat on the Apple TV.

  • Infotype 0032 - why does 'create' have different fields than 'display'

When I create an infotype 0032 record I get 1 field i.e. 'Previous Personnel No.'.
When I go to overview mode there are many other fields i.e. 'Rule', 'Car Value', 'Plate No', 'Asset Number', etc.
How do I maintain or change the entries for the fields in the overview screen, as these are only displayed in the overview screen and not in the 'change' or 'create' screens?

You cannot edit in overview mode, if you are in PA30 then you will need to select one record and then click on edit icon to edit it. It always edita one record at a time.

  • Install SAP IdM MSSQL on different drive than "C:"

We are in the process of building our IDM systems and want to install the MSSQL DB on a different drive than C:.  Has anyone else done this and what changes to the _SqlAuth.vbs & SQL4SAP.vbs (which _SqlAuth.vbs called during installation) are required to facilitate this.
    Thanks in advance.

I am not sure what the problem here is.
The MMC files can be installed whereever you want.
Where the DB files are located is controlled by SQL Server.
If you already have the DB on C:\
Just detach, move and attach again.
    That should do the trick.

  • SQL SERVER 2014 - Project consistency check failed. The following inconsistencies were detected: package.dtsx. has a different ProtectionLevel than the project.

I am getting the following error when I right click on a package in solution explorer and execute using SQL Server 2014:
Project consistency check failed. The following inconsistencies were detected: package.dtsx. has a different ProtectionLevel than the project.
Luckily my solution only has 10 packages.  I have verified and re-verified that everyone is set to dontsavesensitive.
I have verified and re-verified that the solution has the protection level to dontsavesensitive.
What on earth is going on here?  I am using windows authentication and have no need for the package to save any sensitive information, nor should there be any.
Can someone please help me out here?
    The Degenerate Dimension

    Hi MMiligan,
Just as the error message said, the exactly issue is that the package package.dtsx has a different ProtectionLevel property value than the project.
So please double check the value of project ProtectionLevel property, like DontSaveSensitive, then make sure all packages in the project use the same ProtectionLevel value.
If there is still an error message indicated that some packages use a different value, please right-click the indicated package to select View Code, then make sure there is a line like below(the DontSaveSensitive
protection level corresponds to the value of 0):
    DTS:ProtectionLevel="0"

  • Sol10 u8 installed on a ZFS Root File System have different swap needs?

Does Sol10 u8 installed on a ZFS Root File System have different swap needs/processes?
    Information:
I've installed Solaris 10 (10/09 s10s_u8wos_08a SPARC, Assembled 16 September 2009) on a half dozen servers and every one of them no longer mount swap at boot.
The install program commented out the old swap entry and created this one:
    # grep swap /etc/vfstab
    swap - /tmp tmpfs - yes -
Everything works like a champ. I didn't discover the issue until I tried to install some patches and the install failed. It didn't fail because of lack of swap - it refused to run because it found "No swap devices configured".
    Here are the symptoms:
    # swap -s
    total: 183216k bytes allocated + 23832k reserved = 207048k used, 13600032k available
    # swap -l
    No swap devices configured
    # mount | grep swap
    /etc/svc/volatile on swap read/write/setuid/devices/xattr/dev=5ac0001 on Mon Apr 19 08:06:45 2010
    /tmp on swap read/write/setuid/devices/xattr/dev=5ac0002 on Mon Apr 19 08:07:40 2010
    /var/run on swap read/write/setuid/devices/xattr/dev=5ac0003 on Mon Apr 19 08:07:40 2010

    Hi Nitabills,
I assume that you create a zfs entry for swap with the commande zfs create -V $size
did you launch the command :
    swap -a /dev/zvol/dsdk/$ZPOOL/swap
Try this entry below in the vfstab :
    /dev/zvol/dsdk/$ZPOOL/swap - - swap - no -

I have a students excel package intalled on my Mac Book - can I also install this software on my new mac mini - do I need another license or can I populate two machines?

Normally Microsft allows the installation of their programs, except Operating Systems, to be installed on a desktop and notebook at the same time as long as both system are used exclusively by the same person and Not at the same time.
So this should also be true for MS Office for Mac. The only way to tell is to install it on the Mini and then use the same key to activate it. If the activation goes through you are fine. But if you run both system at the same time do not open any of the Office programs on both system at the same time. That may trigger MS to disallow one of the activations.
MS Office for both Mac and Windows checks the local network and logs into the MS activation site everytime one of the apps is started to check current activation and to check if you have it running on more then one computer on your local network using the same key.

  • I have two (paid) copies of lightroom 5 from your photography promotion installed (on two different machines). I would like to deactivate one copy on one desktop so I can install a copy on my laptop. How do I go about this?

I have two (paid) copies of lightroom 5 from your photography promotion installed (on two different machines). I would like to deactivate one copy on one desktop so I can install a copy on my laptop. How do I go about this?

While the standalone version of LR has no deactivation, the Photography Program which is LR + PS-CC bundled and licensed through the Cloud will have a 2-activation limit per Adobe ID, and you cannot decouple the LR from the PS-CC in the Photographers Bundle.
You can license the cloud on up to two computers per AdobeID by signing into the cloud.  When you try to sign in on a third computer you have the option to deactivate the other two copies, which you can do, and then never sign into the cloud on the one computer you don’t want activated and you’ll be fine.

  • Install KM&C on Different Server than Portal?

We need to install KM&C for an LSO project.  It appears that KM&C is normally installed as an add-on to the Portal.  Some of people here are concerned that adding KM&C to the Portal will cause performance issues, so they want to install KM on a different server than the Portal.
    1. Have you had any performance issues with KM&C installed with the Portal?
    2. Can KM&C be installed separately/standalonefrom the Portal (without another Portal install)?  It wouldn't appear so from looking through OSS and the Service Marketplace, but I just want to make sure.
    Thanks!
    Jeff

    Hi There,
You can configure the various KM functions associated with Content Management such as Workflow, Reporting, Scheduler Tasks, Content Exchange, and Indexing to only operate on a particular CM system i.e. server node.
Once you have created your nodes, you go into System Administration > System Configuration > Knoweledge Management > Content Management > Global Services, and within each particular function, for instance "scheduled tasks" you get the opportunity to select a specific system.   This means that only the CM systems you check are responsible for executing the CM function.
Apologies for jumping between KM and CM, but essentially CM is only one component of KM.   The Portal and KM are a unit.   To operate KM you must have the Portal installed.

    No it does not!
Windows and MS Office are two independent products. You will either have to buy an MS-office-license for your needs or you apply to office 365, you can activate up to 5 licenses at a time with your account and e.g. use them for the Parallels-Windows and for the native Office for Mac at the same time.
Office 365 comes in for approx 80€ a year, so if you need more than one license it is the better deal.
