Installer - always install (overwrite)

Hi,
My question is if I can set an option on my installer so that it always makes an installation.
If I make an installation of my program and later want to make a reinstallation I get the error that an Installation of this program already exists.
I want to set an option on my installer so that it always makes an installation, an overwrite.
The reason is if an installation has been made, someone deleted all files (not an uninstallation) then its impossible to install the software again.
Can I set some kind of property in setup.ini?
Best regards,
Simon

Hi Simon,
in LV 6.1 (and probably 7) the behaviour was that the installer removed a present installation of the same program if found. If no installation was found, it was installed. It worked like an On/Off switch. You could fix this problem by generating a new CSLID in the "Create Installer" Dialog. Then an new ID in the format {S-1234-5678-...} was created and at installation the old program files could be overwritten.
In LV8 the dialog for creating an installer doesn't show you that ID, though it is there (saved in the .lvproj- file). You force LabView to create a new one by duplicating the existing installer item in the project window (via context menu). So you don't lose your current installer settings and have another installer to make the changes you want.
Hope this helps,
greets, Dave

  • When I download a program it always instals in German.

When I download a program it always instals in German.
I can not do anything about it, the language used in the new program is always German.
It is like there is some setting which tells the the installation file that the application needs to be German.
Except when it is downloaded from the App Store.
I am Dutch and mostly I use English as a languge. I can read and speak German but I just do not want it as a languge in a program on my MacBook Pro
I do not want German as a language. So how can I take care of this problem.
    Any ideas?

The preferred language on my computer is Dutch. And yes that is what is on top.
There is no other in the list.
Some applications I prefer in English like Photoshop.
It is with third party applications, not App Store or Adobe, but with something like MS Office.

  • Adobe Flash Player Installer always stops downloading

I just formated my Macbook and made a clean reinstallation of OS X (10.10.1). However, apparantly I can't install the adobe flash player (for safari). I download it from http://get.adobe.com/de/flashplayer/ but the installer always pends on downloading without making any progression. I don't have my firewall active. I already tried restarting my computer several times.
On the help page for installation issues this problem is listed. It is suggested to download a direct installation from http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player.exe but this link is not available.
    Every help is much appreciated.

    Hi Maria
I just noticed the link i posted earlier is for windows as well as the help page from where I found it: http://helpx.adobe.com/de/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html
However, the help page for OS X does only provide a link for a direct installer, which is not available as well: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player_osx. dmg
After all I found that the flash player should be integrated into the OS since 2013 and that apparantly my recovery volume for the installation of the OS X has been defective. I formated my Macbook again and installed the OS from another volume and 'voilà' flash player is now integrated and I do not even need to install it manually.
Anyway, thank you very much and have a good day.

  • JRE 8 update 25 installation ALWAYS Static??

    Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of creating a deployment package for Java 8 update 25. By default, Java 6 and 7 would install in Program Files\Java\jreX (x being the family, so jre6, jre7). Unless you specified STATIC=1, ONLY THEN would it install in program Files\Java\jrefullversion.
But now, with Java 8, whatever I do, it will ALWAYS install in C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_25 INSTEAD of C:\Program Files\Java\jre8 , which should be default.
    SO...what the deal?
I've tried everything, STATIC=0, STATIC=Disable, in the command line, in the MSI Properties, in a CFG file passed in the install command line. NOTHING WORKS.
This means everytime we upgrade Java, it will install an additional version of java instead of upgrading the already present one.
Can anyone help? Is this "working as designed" ??if so, what's the thinking behind that?

    Have you specified the directory?
    Installing With a Configuration File
Note that in the above doco, INSTALL_DIR doesn't work. Use INSTALLDIR instead.
The point about the previous installation being left on the machine even when STATIC=Disable is set is something I'm trying to get to the bottom of as well.

  • How To Tell If You Have Optional Installs ALREADY Installed?

Just got a new 21.5-inch iMac with Snow Leopard already installed. Is there any way of determining if any of the Snow Leopard Optional Installs are installed on your system?
For example, how can I tell if I have Rosetta already installed or some of the Language Translations?
Is there any way to remove any Optional Installs without completing wiping and re-installing Snow Leopard?

Just the default install does not contain any optional.
Rosetta is not installed by default, however if you open an application that requires rosetta your Mac will prompt you to install it (and do it for you).
You can remove all printers except the one(s) you use in /Library/Printers.
You can also remove additional languages with Monolingual

  • Is Adobe Media Encoder CS4 always installed on drive c:?

Since my OS drive C: is fairly full, I installed CS4 Production Suite on drive D:. It's all there, except for Adobe Media Encoder, which is in C:\Program files (x86)\Adobe. Is this behavior unique to Vista x64 or just my PC? It hasn't caused any problems, but I was just wondering.

Thanks, but I like to keep drive C just for my OS and few other items that need to be there. I have a couple of TBs of SATA drives also installed. I just wanted to confirm that AME is always installed on Drive C;, no matter what you do.

  • Running a labview installer without installing drivers

Ouch. I have to install multiple LabView programs onto the same machine and they were all compiled with different versions. I don't have the luxury of rebuilding them. When I try installing some of them, the program won't let me install because newer drivers are already installed on the machine. Is there a way of running an installer to install the program without installing the drivers?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The folder where the installer was placed into should have a bunch of folder in the "bin" folder all starting with "p". These contain the various installers that are run. The actual installer for your executable should be in there somewhere, so you could try running it directly.

  • Always install applications into non-global zones?

I am planning on taking full advantage of Containers and Zones as I migrate servers and applications to Solaris 10. During this migration process, I believe that I will have a need to initially just run just one application on a server. I fear that if I do this in the global zone I will lose flexibility down the road for future projects and workloads. So, should I consider always installing applications in a non-global zone and never install applications in the global zone? This would keep the global zone as the controller of the non-global zones and ensure that I can always add more non-global zones later without having to worry about what is running in the global zone.
Are there any thoughts or comments on this topic?

Yes we've found it's best to run the applications in non-global zones. Here are a few benefits, basically we only put an application in the global zone if it requires it (like Oracle RAC). Note non-RAC instances of Oracle will run in a non-global zone just fine.
Reasons to put applications in non-global zones
o Increased security (self contained environment)
o Increased flexibility for provisioning resources (CPU, memory, etc) when/if we decide to run multiple applications on the same hardware
o Increased flexibility in starting up temporary environments to debug issues in parallel to the primary environment (i.e. in another non-global zone on the same server)
o Works well with Sun Cluster (i.e. we cluster the non-global zones so that they can run across several hosts)
o Improved trouble shooting and performance diagnosis as the applications are isolated to a non-global zone
o Simplified environment for the application admins as the environment can be fine tuned for their needs (i.e. only let them see what they need)
o Disaster recovery is much faster for a non-global zone

I received an ITunes and Quicktime update notice on my Windows 7 PC, from Apple this morning. During the update installation, RealPlayer installed. What gives? Why is Realplayer installing with the Apple software.

Thanks for the reply. I went back to check if there was a history in windows (Event Viewer) but could not locate it in Win7. The only updates that were in the Apple Updater window were the Quicktime and ITunes. Had I let the Realplayer continue on its own, it would have installed the Google Chrome and other apps. I let it finish installing and then removed the entire program. I do not remember checking or seeing anything saying that realplayer was being downloaded until after a reboot was requested from the ITunes Update Installer.
I just thought it was strange since I do not use Realplayer and have not downloaded any software for it.
I am on a corporate PC with a pretty thick firewall, but something may have slipped through.
    Thanks again for the assistance.

Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them.
From the application's menu bar, select
    File ▹ Restore Standard Fonts...
You'll be prompted to confirm, and then to enter your administrator login password.
Boot in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
Also note that if you deactivate or remove any built-in fonts, for instance by using a third-party font manager, the system may become unstable.

  • Providing configuration file for SQL 2012 Express installation which installing HPC 2012 R2

    Hi guys,
I need to know if there is any way to provide configuration file for SQL 2012 Express installation which installing HPC 2012 R2?
I am scripting installation on HPC 2012 R2 with default SQL 2012 Express edition but I am not able to find any option to provide a configuation file for SQL 2012 Express installaiton.
    Thanks,
    Vivs.

    Hi Vivs,
As my understanding, you want to generate a configuration file and install SQL Server 2012 express edition using that configuration file.
If that is the case, firstly, you could generate the configuration file following the steps below since express edition is run in AutoAdvance mode which skips "Ready to Install" page.
1.Double-click SQL Server installation file in your local drive, you will see that the file will be extracted to a temporary folder. Please make a note of what directory it is extracted to. For example, it could be in c:\ followed by a folder name which
will be a set of random letters and numbers "gy7h8hjhhj67rfs7".
2.Cancel installation. Then click on the Start button on the task bar, click run, type the command cmd.exe, and go to that directory via cmd.
    3.Execute the following command: setup.exe /ACTION=INSTALL /UIMODE=Normal
4.Follow the wizard through to the 'Ready to Install' page. The path to the configuration file is specified in the 'Ready to Install' page in the configuration file path section.
5.Cancel the setup without actually completing the installation, to generate the INI file.
Secondly, to install SQL Server using Command Prompt, go to the SQL Server installation media root (the temporary folder) from the command prompt and specify the ConfigurationFile.ini as a parameter as shown below.
    Setup.exe /ConfigurationFile=ConfigurationFile.INI
For more information about the process, please refer to the article:

  • Failed Installation when installing a Patch

Version: Sun One Web Server 6.1 SP8
    OS: Windows 2003 SP2
I am trying to install a patch (it seems that this problem is happening no matter what patch I install) and towards the middle of the installation I get the following error:
    "1628: Failed to complete installation"
The install goes through these steps before I get the Error.
    -Configuring Windows installer
    -Extracting patch-id.msp
-Extracting ISScript1150.msi (hangs half way here for about 10sec)
    -then Error
If I try to run the patch-id.msp file the install creates on the temp directory I get the following message:
"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on yuor computer and that you have the correct upgrade path."
    Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

  • Installer not installing older versions

I have several versions of a utility built with Lab Windows CVI (NOT LabView) and I want to allow the users to install older versions when ever they want.
    They can't!!!!!!!
I have older already release versions that I want users to install, when do I need to change to make an older version install over a newer version?????? Is it something in setup.ini?
This has become critical on one computer where the Add/Remove Programs no longer lists this utility. I cannot uninstall the newer version so that I can install the older version. Any ideas what to do about this?
I can't even install the same version, so I had to build a new version (I consider it a fake version, because it is only to uninstall the latest version). I installed this fake version, and I was then able to remove the "latest" version and install the older version.
    So, I have 3 questions:
    1)  How can I change my builds to allow any version to be installed on top of any other version?
    2) How can I fix or uninstall a version that is not in the Add/Remove Programs?
    3) How can I change the installer of already built and released version (some ini file or something) to allow it to install on newer versions?

    Hey Ken,
I'm curious as to what's happening that won't let your users use an older version of the program--do they see an error message of some kind? Generally, as long as the CVI Runtime Engine on the target machine is the same version or newer than the engine the executable was targeted for, it will work. Here's a KnowledgeBase about that: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/7F61479A2FD8331D86257257007F5F1B?OpenDocument
Starting in CVI 2012, you can force an executable to use a specific version of the Runtime Engine, and install multiple versions of the RTE on the same machine, as seen in this CVI help file: http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/370051V-01/cvi/usermanual/sidebysideoverview/
    So, to answer your questions:
    1. Changing builds to allow any version to be installed: You should only need to have the newest version of the CVI Runtime installed on the user's machine. So if the user has at some point installed the newer version of the utility, they will have that RTE version. You could also rebuild your older versions to include the newest version of the Runtime Engine. The Runtime Engine is backwards-compatible with executables that were built to target older versions of the RTE.
    2. How can I fix or uninstall a version that is not in Add/Remove Programs: It's unusual for the distribution to not make an entry in Add/Remove Programs. What version of CVI did you create these distributions with, and do the applications appear in the Start menu? You might check the application directory (Most likely C:\Program FIles\<Your Application>, and see if an uninstaller exists there. For older versions of CVI, we included an uninstall utility in the program directory. There should be no problem with having multiple versions of your program installed, though.
    3. How can I change the installer to install on newer versions: Once a distribution kit has been made, it's not possible to change which version of the Runtime Engine is included with that distribution. If you have access to the source files, you can of course create a new distribution which includes that RTE.
I hope this helps, and please let us know if you have any further questions on this issue!

  • Dreamweaver CS3 installer aborts install

    Hi,
I have made 3 attempts at instlaling DW CS3, but each time
the installer quits and gives me the message that only the shared
components were installed. My computer meets the requirements for
DW CS3. There are two seemingly strange things about the install
    (1) it takes close to 30 minutes before I get the error message and
    (2) at this time, the progress bar shows about 95% complete, but
then jumps back to about 80% complete, stops and gives me the
mesage about only the shared components being installed.
My questions are: How can I get the trial version installed?
and second, why does the installer take 30 minutes to install just
the shared components? and, third, how can I just install DW
without the shared compoents as I do not need them and why take up
my harddrive space with components that I do not need?
