Installing Director 11 and Director MX 2004 (10)

On a new PC, I installed Adobe Director 11 and several other
parts of the Master Collection CS3. Due to problems with some
extras that don't run with Director 11, I have to install also
Director MX 2004 (10).
After installing this version, the program can be started,
but it exits without any warning after about 15 secs.
Then, I tried to uninstall Director 11. A messages told me to
'deactivate' the program first. This process failed. I still
uninstalled the program and reinstalled Director MX 2004. No
change, it still won't work.
Does anyone had similar problems? Any suggestion on how to
solve this? All help is appreciated.

Fast answer: no! (utf8 and other file/byteorder-specific
reasons)

  • Is same OS for CE7.1 and NWDI of 2004s possible?

    Dear Sirs,
Now I'm using CE7.1 Dev Edition as an evaluation and considering to use NWDI for Team Development after staring  development phase.
Is it possible that I install CE7.1 and NWDI of 2004s into same server? (I want to have two different vesion of AS Java instances in one OS)
If there are any recommendation, pls tell me.
As far as I searched, I couldn't find out the document about system landscape like best practice.
    TnR
    Shingo

    Hi Shingo,
You can install NWDI 2004s and CE 7.1 in the same OS.
Up to NW CE 7.1 SP3 no NWDI servers are part of the NW CE shipment (since SP4, SP5, … will contain corrections only this applies to all upcoming SPs for NW CE 7.1 as well). If you want to use NWDI for development targeting NW CE 7.1 you could use a NW 2004s installation of usage type DI – starting with NW2004s SP 13 this is fully functional. With NW2004s SP level < 13 NWDI can also be used for CE development but the automatic deployment targeting a CE runtime does not work – this works only starting with SP 13.
With NW CE 7.1.1 NWDI servers will become part of the NW CE shipment.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Director MX 2004 and Flash Actionscript 2

Can anyone show me how to program director MX 2004 to run a
few Actionscript 2 programmed .swf (not frame-by-frame programmed)
    in a row?

    Rob,
Thanks for your replay. Here is what I want to do:
I have a Flash animation all done in Actionscript to playback
a few slides with title and description. The pictures are loaded in
the .swf runtime and the location of the pictures, duration,
transition, and text attributes are controlled by external XML.
Since this is all done with Actionscript, the Timeline is not
really an indication of real time (like in frame-by-frame
animation). How can I program Director to play the whole Flash
    animation and stop when done?
How can I upload a test file to you to illustrate what I'm
    talking about?

  • Director MX 2004 and Flash CS3

    Hi there:
New to Director, so I apologize if this question's a wierd
one, but I'm wondering -- is it possible to host a Flash 9 SWF
(authored, say, in Flex and written in AS3) in a Director MX 2004
project? I'd like to add some of the features of Director to my
SWF, and am hoping I can drop in my SWF and write some code that'll
    bridge the two environments.
    Thanks,

No, the last publically released version of the Flash Asset
    xtra will
play version 8/AS2 files only. The next version of Director
    (due before
the end of the year) is expected to include an updated asset

  • Director MX 2004 ActiveX

    Hi
Does anyone know a link to some documented help on how to use
    Director MX 2004 in AW7 ?
There is mention of using an Active X is this the Shockwave
ActiveX ? If so how do I use it to display Director movies?
Help please I am on a trial and need to know if incorporating
Director MX into AW7 works ok
    Thanks
    Kevin

Yes, you need to use the Shockwave ActiveX control. This also
    means
your target machines need the shockwave player installed
    also.
You need to insert the ActiveX control and name it something
    unique.
Then after the ActiveX on the flowline in a calc put :
    SetSpriteProperty(@"Director", #SRC,
    Filelocation^"directorfile.dcr")
substitute @"Director" for whatever you called the icon.
    That should get you started.

  • Director MX 2004 Mac OS X numeric keypad

    Hi,
I am new to this so please excuse the basic question. I would
like to use the numeric keypad for number entry in Director MX 2004
on a Mac. It doesn't seem to work because I think the keys are
assigned to shortcuts. The only keys that work are 2 and 9. Is
there any way to turn this off so I can use the keypad for typing
numbers? Number lock doesn't seem to do anything and there doesn't
seem to be anywhere to change the settings in preferences. Thank
you in advance for your help.

This might be more trouble than it's worth in authoring mode.
You probably need to install a blank menu to trap these events with
your own menu system (see 'installmenu' int the help).
In a projector or shockwave however, I believe this issue is
gone. In authoring you can use the standard top row of the keyboard
    instead.

  • Trying to install Director 11 on windows 7 64-bit

I am upgrading to a new computer which has a version of 64-bit windows 7.  However, I can't seem to install a version of director 11 that I have on to it in any way that works properly. I"m assuming that there's a 32bit/64bit issue going on here.
Right now, it says it installs fine, but where I try to run the program, nothing happens. Running the task manager, it shows up in the processes tab, however, it doesn't show up in the Application tab.
To further the pain, the version I am currently running on my old machine is director 11.5. However, I do not have the installer files for that version locally, and the only downloadable version available on Adobe's site is for version 12...which I don't need to pay the upgrade for. ANy ideas on how I can find the 11.5 upgrade files?
    Thanks.

Best solution to install Director 11/11.5 not to program files or program files(x86) in Vista/7/8 .
Create a folder c:\Director or c:\myprogs\director and install it there.
Then you will have not the security problems of system controled folders.
If you bought your Dir 11.5 in the online store, you should have a downloadlink in your orderhistory

  • Director mx 2004 won't display Flash 8 swf files & other Flash media

I have created a Flash 8 Project which has audio, video (which are converted to swf files fom flvs), flashpaper.  This application is driven by XML.
However  this application works fine outside director, but when I import the main swf file into director mx 2004 and RUN it, director won't display the videos (but I can hear the audio from the videos), Director wont show graphic images(eg menu icon movie buttons, and flash buttons). Also I can launch external files (eg text file) from flash, but again it won't work via director.
    ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE

    ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE
I suggest there's no need to shout.
Try linking the Director cast member to the external swf file instead of fully importing it. You also should have the 10.1.1 update in place - this is particularly important.

  • Physics for Director MX 2004 10.1

Here's the situation. I own Director MX 2004 10.1 and I need to do some physics stuff. I developed a nice simulation using Havok that works great in a projector, but it lost one critical functionality in Shockwave that I can't seem to resolve (collisions involving repositioned fixed rigid bodies act as if they were never moved). I know Havok is dead and Ageia PhysX is what I should be using, but I really don't want to upgrade to 11.5 just for Ageia. I was hoping to hold out until D12.
Is it possible to get Ageia for Director 10.1?
Are there any old Havok gurus out there thay know how to move a fixed rigid body and have it repond to collisions in the new location?
Do I have to bite the bullet and buy D11.5?

Maybe Dee McDee is my only salvation!
I have not found anything about Physx and Director.
I use 3D Max with Physx and I know how to export from Max with W3D and import it into Director.
I don’t know what procedure to use to save the physical reactions.
When I save in w3d I have no physical reaction only animations.
    Questions:
    1) How can I do to import and maintain the physical reactions in Director?
I would, for example, bringing down a wall and then import it into Director.
    2) Really Havok doesn’t work in Director 11.5?
I have imported an old movie made with Havok inside Director 11.5 and I make the projector and it works.
    Sorry for my bad English.
I don't understand what do you means to "callback" in your previous message.
Thank you very much for your attention.

  • Director MX 2004 compatibility with Windows 64Bit

    Hello
I'm buying a new desktop system and I was asked in the shop
if I wanted windows xp with 32bit or 64bit. Yes, I opted for xp
    instead of Vista.
I'm just wondering if Director MX 2004 is fully compatible
with the 64bit version? Or, are there any issues I should be wary
    about.
The guy in the shop recommended the 64bit since the RAM could
    be upgraded more.
Any feedback appreciated. Sorry if this is not LINGO related.

HTML is HTML.  The product you use doesn't matter much except in terms of "ease of use" and quality of code it generates.  MX is a dinosaur.  Depending on how you built your sites with it, you may need to update your code to modern web standards.  But your site's code will remain editable in any version of DW.
That said, a LOT has changed in 10 years.  So if you don't have really strong coding skills in HTML and CSS, you will struggle with newer versions of DW.  The interface is different, too, so it will take some adjustment.
CS6 is the only version you can still purchase.

  • Director mx 2004 log in system

    hello
i am using director mx 2004 and i need to create a login and register system where it saves the clients details in a database so they can re login and carry on with the quiz, so would be saving a few details in the database linked to director, it is not going to be a big project only 3 names would be saved in the database, but i have no clue how to start doing this in director mx 2004,
    thanks

You say "database". Do you plan to run the application on one computer only, and allow 3 different users, or do you intend to the application to run on any computer anywhere in the world, but only for the users whose login name and password is stored in a central server on the Internet?
Do you know the login names and passwords in advance, or will these be created dynamically at run-time?
In other words, what is this exercise intended to teach you?
How to work with data in multiple parts (name + password x 3 users)
How to create a database-type of functionality within Director
How to interact with an external database
Clearly defining the questions you have to answer is the first step to finding the answers.

  • Is there a marker limit in Director MX 2004?

I'm using Director MX 2004, and I have a very large project with lots of markers. Markers have quite long names too. Now I'm having some weird behavior when inputting new markers and naming them... I have tried many times to add new markers, but for some reason as soon as I move a newly added marker the name of the marker goes empty, and the name is added to the previous marker. For example, if I have a marker called "Markername 1" and I add a new marker with a name "Markername 2" and then move the marker with "Markername 2", it loses its name and the first marker is called "Markername 1Markername 2"... is there some limits in markers or what could cause this weird behavior?

Director is so much more powerful than laying stuff out on the timeline over and over, project after project. I would challenge you to explore Lingo a bit more and learn what possibilities it opens up to make your projects of 3000-4000 labels much easier. We, as humans are natural pattern seekers, and that's where programming can help the most. If we can see the pattern - the repetition - then there's usually code that we can write that gets rid of the manual layout of something of that scale that you describe so that you'd just have to create a few markers and have the code dynamically generate the layout from the data/assets.
So, have fun with Director and explore... to steal from Mark, "Keep on Learnin'".
WOW. This sort of reply is a perfect example of why so many long-time Director users like myself rarely post, but instead just roll our eyes and walk away. The hubris in this last comment is amazing.
Let's review the thread. Someone posts that they are having problems adding new markers. You and both Mark responded. FWIW, I also would recommend the list solution that substitutes the actual name for a more systematic labeling method, so that's a great and helpful idea. But your first post, that noboby has ever experienced this over the last nine years, is incorrect. I've complained about the "marker bug" on numerous occasions over the years, probably dating back to MX, though I guess everyone just ignored the comment. So I chime in on this thread that I have, in fact, numerous large movies that exhibit the erratic label issues. Then comes your amazing reply to my comment about the unpredictable bug, which could be summarized as "My vision for Director involves templates, and anyone who deviates from my vision must be a moron who is completely ignorant of the complexity of Director."
    LOL
So if you get your wish, will the stage of D12 would be locked down at 10 frames for the rest of us? Just because you can't step outside of the box you've put yourself in and EVER see the need for a movie with more than a handful of frames, does that imply that every other serious Director user has to limit themsleves with those same constraints?
I don't disagree with you that the power of Director is in creating an underlying architecture that allows sophisticated interactions to be used over and over with minimal fuss at the individual screen level. I haven't written a "go to" command in years! Why do you assume that I spend all my time "laying stuff on the timeline"? What is amazing is that you make these sweeping generalizations about every other user, based only on your initial programming biases, even when you have no idea of the complexity of my project or its intended use.
Like you, the bulk of my plumbing when setting up this large number of screens involves submitting (and cleaning up) large, complex data arrays (AKA - lists of lists). I have over 30,000 lines of Lingo for these input lists alone, which reference the 150,000 lines of lingo for my generic interactions. And of course this all ties in to a huge local DB, where I have over 500,000 fields, and the user generates another 10,000 new entries in the DB during their 100+ hours spent in the application.
But what does this "plumbing" have to do with markers? My vision for reusable code is to handle the hard stuff out of sight, and allow me to quickly create unique screen markers that have a "hand crafted" feel to every screen. I do this not because templates are beyond my conceptual grasp, but rather because I have rejected the idea of templates, for my projects, as creative "laziness". Easy to implement, but boring, tedious, and visually unappealing, Sure, templates may work for many other applications, especially those where the user experience is not so important. But in my case, where each projects involves about 40,000 hours of work gathering unique materials and constructing them into an interactive, it flies in the face of the very nature of the project itself. My users will spend 2-3 hours per week in my application, for an entire year. Why should I bore them more than necessary, just because I want to save 200 hours of layout on a 40,000 hour project? Each of my projects, over their lifetime, will have over 5 million hours of user time spent inside them. I'm currrently working on one that will have 10 times that amount. Since many labels will have users spending over 10,000 hours looking / interacting with it, my question is not "how can I save 5 minutes of layout/programming time per screen', but rather "is this screen visually, technically, and pedagogically worth thousands of user hours?"
So I use markers, in combination with my code, to reject the template mold, allowing me to quickly lay a few simple elements on each screen and create a customized, hand crafted look and feel to the entire experience. It is a very different approach than yours, and I'm glad you are happy with your view of the interactive world. But as for me, I use Director precisely because itt is possible to mix a powerful scripting environment, that reaches deep into the OS, with the ability to quickly customize each screen/label and provide an appealing visual experience for the user.
While you think I should "explore Lingo a bit more and learn what possibilities it opens up", I'd suggest you learn to put aside your predetermined solutions to problems that you have not even encountered yet. Who knows where new creative ideas will take you...
