Installing JDK on old Linux
This is either a FAQ or a genuine Interesting Topic; I would be grateful for help in
either case.
I'm running Red Hat 5.2 on my laptop. Upgrading to 6.x or 7.1 is going to be tough,
because I've got a bunch of stuff that I use (like VMWare!), that's installed itself in
the root filesystem, and Red Hat's "upgrade" option in its distribution disks seems to
be a bit of a joke.
I've got a copy of Sun's binary distribution, but it requires newer libraries than my
box has. I've got Sun's source distribution, but that seems to be confused about
some #defines in src/solaris/hpi (or something like that), and is not compiling. I have
a copy of Blackdown's 1.2 binaries for glibc 2.0, and they seem to run at least, but
when I run a GUI-based program they do not display any text! Right now, persuading
the Sun source distribution to compile seems to be my best bet, but it's slow going.
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks in advance.
Sergej Roytman
Simple ;-):
1.) Install a new glibc (maybe even by hand, but be careful not to shoot your system)
2.) Use KAFFE. It's a JVM that doesn't require a special glibc I think. Unfortunately it is only a Java 1 JVM.

How to install JDK on LINUX Ubuntu on system with no net/wireless?
Hello!
I need to install JDK on LINUX Ubuntu on system with no net/wireless connection.
What are the commands?
Thank you!
Edited by: 800512 on 07:29 10/01/2011- Download your release of choice from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
- Put the file on a USB thumb drive
- Mount that drive on the target machine
- Follow the installation instructions.
The Linux/Ubuntu downloads of the JDK are offline installers (i.e. the downloaded file contains everything that's required). Only Windows currently has an online installer (smaller initial download, but requires a net connection for the actual installation)
Alternatively: install the OpenJDK from the official Ubuntu packages using apt-zip (http://wiki.debian.org/AptZip). -
/usr/bin/java Permission denied after installing JDK on linux
Hi Guys,
I installed jdk-6u1-linux-i586-rpm.bin and I am getting strange errors like this:
1 When I simply run "java" in shell I get this:
/usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javaf10273: Permission denied
/usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javaf10273: Success
2. When I try to run an sh file I get this:
Warning: -ms128m not understood. Ignoring.
Warning: -mx128m not understood. Ignoring.
/usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javae10796: Permission denied
/usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javae10796: Success
I searched around and as I understand the linux package may have contained some older java version, and the comp is still trying to use that.
But these notes did not say how to uninstall that older version, orr what to do.
Can you please maybe point me somewhere?
Thanks,
GyuriThe RPM installer for the Sun JDK installs Java in /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_01. Just add /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_01/bin to your path before /usr/bin and it should be fine.
Additionally, there are no -ms and -mx parameters, those should be -Xms and -Xmx. -

I'm sorry but this is not completely right.
Linux x86_64 uses the IBM JDK, only Linux on x86 and Linux on IA64 use the Sun JDK.

Error while installing developer 10g on linux suse 10.0
Hi All,
This error appears while installing developer 10g on linux suse 10.0
http://img179.imageshack.us/my.php?image=errorso9.pngTry locate (using find command for example) the libjvm.so file (I assume that is located somewhere under $ORACLE_HOME (probably jdk or jre directory)). If you locate the path where this library resides, try to add that path to $LD_LIBRARY_PATH enviroment variable.
Use copy&paste method (for error message) rather than link to image.
It is much quicker operation and it may help to other people because they be able to find this thread via search engine. -

Can't install Forte4j on SuSE Linux 8.0 ...
Hi all,
I tried to install Forte4J on my SuSE Linux 8.0. But I receive a strange error during the installation process.
"package 02f06fd12771dbf359f999a9adb8b305-4.0- is not installed"
So, which package do I need? ;-) I installed JDK 1.4.1 which runs fine and is found by the Forte installer. But I didn't install it as a RPM - because there was no RPM available.
Maybe someone can give me a hint on that ...
Thnx.
AxelThere's a new bin file available for JDK 1.4.1 and it works even if after the
installation the error appears. ;-)
But be sure NOT to download the combined JDK and SunOneStudio bin file with about
98 MB. There's a bin file available which contains only SunOneStudio for
JDK 1.4.1. Use that one!

Downloading and Installing JDK and JSDK
I just got the book instant javaserver pages and it tells me to install JDK 1.2 for Linux and JSDK. Well I'm useing windows 98 and use IE6 mainly for a browser, so should I still download and install JDK for Linux? And the most resent version I could find on this site was 1.1.8.
do a search on the forum top right of this page
ill bet theirs over 10000 posts on it and getting it running
or look to the installation forum itself
as far as dling the right jdk if you have windows you use the windows version of the jdk the download spot
can be a lil tough to find but the jdk is easy to install once you find it and itll make a folder under the c drive -
