Instance not accessible (ora-12514) and recovery..
So, I was doing some changes on a network (from dhcp to fixed ip's), and after that I was not able to access my oracle (10.2.0) instance (win xp), and I don't know why.
Of course, listener starts (and I can tnsping it), but when I start instance, no memory is consumed, like it does not starts (thus I receive ora-12514 error). I didn't changed anything, no db_name, port, tnsnames.ora... anything..
so, now I guess if I do physical backup (datafiles, redo log files, control files, pwd file), and recreate instance (reinstall oracle) can I restore db at that way?

Hi im new to oracle and im having trouble in connecting oracle 10g XE with asp.net2005 and im using windows 2003 server.i installed the odt.net tools and every thing looked well untill i tried to connect with database using connect to oracle in asp.net. here is the error
Oracle Explorer
An error occured while opening the connection:
ORA-12514:TNS:listener does not currently know the service requested in connect descriptor.
i tried to put data source name as localhost or the IP and i have no clue what else can that be.
any one with some suggestion??
please give a descriptive reply as im quite new to thisHi,
to connect to oracle database you need more than just server name (or server ip), you also need the database service name, for your case, XE. So you just need to construct your connection string into something similar to this,
connectionString="Data Source=//localhost/xe;Password=hr;User ID=HR" Just replace Password and User ID to suit your configuration.
You can also replace localhost with other server name and xe with service available in that server.
[url http://www.nur-hidayat.net/files/WebODP.rar]Here is a quick and dirty asp.net sample to display Employees table in HR sample schema available in XE.

Hi,
on 10.2.0.3 on Win can not connect to DB by :
sqlplus user/password@MYDB
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
descriptor.
lsnrctl status gives :
Service "MyDB.server.LOCAL" has 1 instance(s).
Instance "MYDB", status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service..
But tnsping MYDB is OK.
I can connect with :
set ORACLE_SID=MYDB
sqlplus / as sysdba
Any idea ?
Thank you.user10274093 wrote:

OEM Appl. Server Control: BI Forms Instance not accessible - Apache Crashes
Dear Colleague,
We have OAS Release 1 installed. We operate an Oracle Forms/Reports application. That means, we have the standard Infrastructure Appl. Server instance and the BI Forms instance runing on OAS.
I recently installed a new DB instance called RKMSTEST on the DB server (the production DB is called RKMS). Since the installation and configuration of the new test DB. Consequently, I also create corresponding RADs (Resource Application Descriptors) in OID and updated the TNSNAMES.ORA file to include the new test database RKMSTEST.
The problems are
a) that the Apache.exe program (ntdll.dll) crashes regularly
b) the OEM Appl. Server Control web program for the BI Forms instance is no longer accessible (OEM Appl. Server Control web program for the Infrastructure Instance is accessible).
Do you have any ideas or tips how I can debug these problems?
Best regards,
CharlesHow do you try to access console? what url do you use?
From what components you want to check the ports asigned? Only Oc4j's, webcache, http_server and oid should show something here.
Did you check the file $OH/install/portlist.ini and opmn.xml, rmi.xml?
Regards. -
PLEASE HELP: Does Not Boot in Rescue and Recovery Mode!
My X60s started to kind of freak out. I don't have a virus or anything, it's just being weird. I created a backup when it was working perfectly but I can't restore to the backup. Whenever I try doing it through windows, It always warns me not to restart my computer or it won't work. Then when I go through the setup to restore it and click restore, it pauses for about five seconds and then restarts my laptop automatically. But when I click the blue button on bootup, it brings me straight to the BIOS and gives me NO option to restore my laptop. PLEASE HELP! I've spent hours trying to get it to work and nothing is helping.
Ok, I think it has something to do with either my registry or vrlogon.dll I restored my registry to it's original state and that didn't fix anything so I think it has to do with vrlogon.dll I was having problems with the fingerprint reader and I heard it might have to do with the vrlogon.dll I installed a program that is supposed to restore this file, but it didn't fix anything. Upon closer inspection, I found that it deletes any third party software that may be affecting windos files. I think by using this I accidently overrode any Lenovo software that was in .dll's or other files. Is there anywhere I can download these files from Lenovo? I've already tried reinstalling the programs individually, but it doesn't do anything.

Strange error or not? (ORA-01653 and APO Interface)
Hi Gurus,
I'm facing some strange problems in our BW-System. Last weekend we got some error messages: "ORA-01653: unable to extend table " This happend during loading. No problem, basis team worked fine and data loading ist going well again.
Now comes the strange stuff: Every Cube that had problems last weekend has a request with status "red" called "Request loaded using the APO interface without monitor log". The Request date is in some cases 14 days in the past.
What is this about? Basis team doesn't knows, so my coleagues. I learned SEM/BPS data is loaded this way, but our expert says he never dealt with the affected cubes.
Best regards,
LeoThat's what the basis team did and that work fine. The problems were the red APO-requests. We had another problem last weekens. A source system was shut down and our communications user was deleted because. This system should be taken out of our BW, but the processes were still running. I guess that's the reason. I cut all connections to this system and now everythin is fine.

Edited by: JuaNiNNaio on 09-feb-2009 22:59Your listener.ora file doesn't list any db services, so you must be depending on database self-registration with the listener, and given that it "used" to work, I assume that self-registration is fundamentally working.
Is it still broken? If so, note what ORA-12514 means. (You <b><i>did</i></b> look it up, didn't you??)
"TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor"
So, on the database server, what do you see when you check the listener status?
c:\lsnrctl statusIt should list a service that matches the "service name" in the relevent tnsnames.ora entry on your client machine.
You mention this is on "Vista". Please note that no Oracle rdbms product is certified on Vista Home_anything.
Also, your subject says product = rdbms80, but then say you are running 10g. Which is it? -
How to download Rescue and Recovery
I've a K330B with Win7, 64bit. Since the stock Rescue and Recovery does not allow to back-up the 25GB of the service partition, I tried using the Rescue and Recovery for an Ideapad instead. It messed things up for me. So I went back to the system restore point, prior to installing the version for the ideapad.
Now my Rescue and Recovery won't work. It crashes each time I try to run it. I need to re-install it. I can not find the Rescue and Recovery software for a K330B Desktop with Win7 Home Premium, 64bit, anywhere on the Lenovo support site.
Please help.Hi, divasthapa
When you press Enter at the Lenovo screen, what are the options that appear on the menu? There should be one for BIOS, one to resume normal setup, etc. But there should also be something about recovering your system or something along those lines.
Thanks in advance,
Adam

I am a volunteer here. I don't work for Lenovo -
Hi at all.... I'm a newbie with database oracle.,
I have the follow problem:
I installed Oracle Database 11g R2 XE on my guest operating system CentOS 6.5.
I have changed the hostname in my SO CentOS (where is installed oracle 11g R2 XE) after installation was completed successfully.
-) Before and during installation the hostname was localhost.
-) After installation I changed the hostname in VMCentOS
From the moment I changed the hostname, nothing starts up automatically. In particular, the listener and the database instance does not starts up automatically.
When I starts up the listener manually and I try to connect to database instance with SQLPLUS i get this error:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
I think that the problem is due to the changed hostname because I, for testing and debugging purpose, re-installed a new OS CentOS virtual machine, re-installed oracle database 11g and I have not got that problem. The database instance and the listener starts up automatically!
Can any one tell me if maybe the problem is related to the hostname changed? ... and Why?
P.S.: After changed the hostname I have also modified the listener.ora and the tnsnames.ora by modifying the HOST with the correct hostname.-) Output of command chkconfig (there isn't any line oracle-xe 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off):

The system cannot find the file specified
I have tried from so many forms. This is so frustrating. Thank for everyone/anyone who wants to help. So this is what happened: I had to uninstall my previous sqlserver 2012(which worked great) for some reason, and I uninstalled everything from that download.
Then I installed the trial edition of sql server 2012 (64 Bit) and It wouldn't connect to the database. (Error mentioned above.) My local DB is COWBOYS. (COWBOYS is also my computer name.) After this, I have tried downloading sqlexpress and sqlserver 64bit
many times and cannot connect to my local DB.
How do I connect to my Local DB?
Also, I think this might help: (When I run sqlserve.exe, which I was able to find in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\LocalDB\Binn, I get an error: Your SQL server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with(Error getting
instance ID from name). Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this problem.
I would happily re install it, if it wasn't my 20th time.
I don't have any remote connections, I don't use username/password, only window authentication. I work mostly on visual studio, but without able to store /retrieve data, I don't know how to survive.
May be the solution is very simple, but I am too frustrated.
Some of the things I have tried:
From a command prompt, enter one of the following commands:
net start "SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER)" OR
net start "SQL Server Agent(instancename)"(for instance)
on my sql configuration, I cannot start anything because there is nothing there to start. I can post more details, if that would help. Also, some more details about the error:

Any one that can help me, I will be greatful. Thank you so much. p.s. please ask me anything if you have any questions. It sounds like there are a couple things going on here. First check if you have a successful install of SQL Server, then we'll figure out the connection issues.
Can you launch SQL Server Configuration Manager and check for SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) if default instance or SQL Server (other name) if you've configured your instance as a named instance. Once you find this, make sure the service is started.
If not started, try to start it and see if it throws an error. If you get an error, post the error message your hitting. If the service starts, you can then launch SSMS and try to connect. If you have a default instance, you can use the machine
name in the connection dialog. Ex: "COWBOYS" where Cowboys is the machine name. However, if you named the SQL Server instance during install, you'll need to connect using the machine\instance format. Ex: COWBOYS\Romo (where Romo
is the instance name you set during install).
You can also look at the summary.txt file in the SQL Server setup error logs to see what happened on the most recent install. Past install history is archived in the log folder if you need to dig those up to help troubleshoot, but the most
recent one may help get to the bottom of it if there is an issue with setup detecting a prior instance that needs to be repaired.
