Instantclient-odbc - odbcad32.exe problem

Hi. I have instantclient set up on my workstation (windows xp). It works fine via both sqlplus.exe and php/apache. However, I cannot get instantclient-odbc-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115 to work. When I add a dsn choosing "Oracle in instantclient_10_2 Version 10.02.00.03", I get an error popup: odbcad32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close... Send Error Report...
The only environment variable set is ORACLE_HOME=c:\instantclient_10_2
The contents of instantclient-basic-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115, instantclient-sqlplus-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115, and instantclient-odbc-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115 are all under c:\instantclient_10_2\bin. tnsnames.ora is under C:\instantclient_10_2\network\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora.
I'd like to get this ODBC working. Has anybody dealt with this? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Paul

I deleted the ORACLE_HOME=c:\instantclient_10_2 environment variable. I added TNS_ADMIN=C:\instantclient_10_2\network\ADMIN. Now I can create a dsn.

  • Odbcad32.exe encountered a problem

    I've installed the 10.2.0.2 ODBC driver - ORA10202.exe - but when I create try to create a System DSN, I choose 'Oracle in Home1' but get an error "odbcad32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."
    The Universal Installer said it was successfully installed. I had previously installed ODAC1020221.exe and can connect to Oracle database from SQL developer no problem. I'm on XP SP2 which says I've got MDAC2.8 SP1 installed.
    Any ideas as to the problem, and how to fix it ?

    Never mind, I sorted it.
    Installing the ODBC driver appears to default to creating a new Oracle home - one which doesn't work. Uninstall the driver and remove that home, then re-install the driver and select the existing Oracle home created by the ODAC installation and then ODBC seems to work.

  • ODBC Administrator  odbcad32.exe  crashing

    Whenever I try to set up a System DSN selecting Oracle ODBC Driver 9.0.1.8.0 it causes the ODBC Administrator odbcad32.exe to crash.
    I am running Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.6.0 and Windows XP Professional.
    I have tried installing the ODBC driver into a different directory, but that did not help.
    I have to use a MS Access front end to connect to the database because that is where all the reports that I need to run were developed.
    I am not a technical person, so any help would be appreciated.

    Hi JMARKS6205-2,
    Sorry for my delay.
    Based on your description, it seems that you have checked the registry entries. On current situation, I suggest
    that you should check again. Just to confirm.
    Please open Registry Editor and navigate to the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI
    Since installation information for ODBC drivers is stored in this key. Please make sure that the required ODBC
    driver file (psqlodbc30a.dll) is in the correct folder as described by the registry keys.
    For more details, please refer to the following KB.
    PRB: Error Message: "Could Not Load Translator or Setup
    Library"
    If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • Instant Client 10.2, WindowsXP - odbcad32.exe crashes

    I tried to use IC 10_2 (Basic and ODBC) to access an Oracle Database with Microsoft Access.
    I could configure a datasource with odbcad32.exe and use it with MSAccess successfully. Next step was a try to dynamically configure it from within MSAccess with API call to SQLConfigDataSource() in ODBCCP32.DLL. This works too, but I wondered I could'nt use it in the same session or do further calls to SQLConfigDataSource(). I had to leave Access and restart it.
    So I tried the same with odbcad32.exe. There seems to be the same problem. Configuring a datasource once works, but trying to configure it a second time or configure another one (without leaving odbcad32.exe) ends in a crash.

    Hi Laurenz,
    this works, if you configure the datasources manually. But we want to check/configure the needed datasources from within Access-Application at startup dynamically. Only the first call to SQLConfigDataSource() works, the others fails.
    So it seems that we have to open a service request.
    Thank you for your answer.

    Gerhard

  • Unhandled win32 exception occurred in odbcad32.exe

    I am trying to setup ODBC connection from a Windows Server 2003 box to an external Oracle 9i database. The vendor who manages the 9i database suggested that I could use the Oracle 10.2 client and ODBC drivers on my Windows box. So I installed the Oracle 10.2 Client (Run Time) and ODBC Driver (10.2.0.2). Both installed successfully. However, when I try to add a new System DSN (from Microsoft ODBC Administrator) using the "Oracle in Home1" ODBC driver, I get an error ("An unhandled win32 exception occurred in odbcad32.exe.").
    I've tried uninstalling the ODBC driver and reinstalling, but to no avail. Does anybody have any suggestions on what might be happening or what I should do to fix the problem?

    The problem is with your driver... you have to use the original driver which is supplied with the software
    and then come back with the error..
    actualy the new driver is not able to recognise the older versions..
    Try it..

  • 32-bit version odbcad32.exe (C:\windows\syswow64)

    1.     By default on any 64 bit machine, 64-bit version of odbcad32.exe (C:\windows\system32) is used.
    2.     It is also correct that one can use 32-bit version odbcad32.exe (C:\windows\syswow64) and add DB entries in System DSN .
    3.     But, even following Step 2, given above, Alter audit report is failing out.
    4.     It would be great help, if you let us know what additional step she used to run Alter audit report in WINDOWS 2008 R2 server.

    PeopleSoft client tools such as application designer, datamover, etc run on 32 bit, where as PeopleTools is installed on 64 bit servers.
    You need to add a system DNS for both 32 bits as 64 bits.
    The 32-bit version of the Odbcad32.exe file is located in the %systemdrive%\Windows\SysWoW64 folder.
    The 64-bit version of the Odbcad32.exe file is located in the %systemdrive%\Windows\System32 folder.
    This is also stated in the installation manual of PeopleTools, Appendix B Installing a database manually
    Snipet from the installation manual:
    Task B-2: Configuring an ODBC Data Source
    Now that you have established your database name and location, you can set up an ODBC data source on the database client.
    Note. With Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and above a new connectivity driver was delivered for Microsoft SQL Server databases named “Sql Native Client” or SNAC. Ensure that you use this driver during installation.
    If you are running on a 64-bit machine, confirm that you are using the correct connectivity drivers. PeopleSoft PeopleTools executables are 32-bit, but can be run on a 64-bit machine. If you are running on a 64-bit
    operating system you still need to utilize the 32-bit connectivity drivers for PeopleSoft PeopleTools. Use this information to verify that the ODBC Data Administrator odbcad32.exe is running from the correct
    location. The ODBC Data Administrator resides in the following two locations on a 64-bit Microsoft Windows machine:
    • The 32-bit version odbcad32.exe is found in C:\windows\syswow64: This is for 32-bit applications running on a 64-bit operating system. This is the correct version for PeopleSoft PeopleTools.
    • The 64-bit version odbcad32.exe is found in C:\windows\system32: This is for 64-bit applications running on a 64-bit operating system.
    When you run odbcad32 on a 64-bit Microsoft Windows machine (Start, Programs, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, ODBC Data Administrator), the 64-bit version of odbcad32.exe (C:\windows\system32)
    is used by default. In order to run 32-bit PeopleSoft PeopleTools, be sure to include a System DSN entry for the 32-bit version odbcad32.exe (C:\windows\syswow64).

  • The tiworker.exe problem: I don't believe Microsoft knows how to fix it!

    I just got a new computer with Windows 8 four days ago.  Almost immediately, I noticed the machine was running slow.  Upon checking my performance through Norton, I found the pesky little tiworker.exe was eating up 99% of my CPU.  Angry, I
    contacted a Microsoft tech through chat.  He told me there was nothing wrong with Windows to cause the problem, that it had to be a third party program running somewhere that was causing it.  When I reminded him that tiworker.exe related to Windows
    Updates, he still insisted there was nothing wrong, and to contact my computer manufacturer, which I did.
    The great guy at HP told me that Microsoft was "full of baloney" that there were virtually thousands of posts throughout forums on the internet related to this problem, and it was probably not related to their hardware or software or any other
    third party software.  He advised me to remove all of the extensions in Google Chrome (which I was using when I discovered the problem) which I did, but no improvement.  After checking a few other things, it dawned on me to try Mozilla, to see if
    that presented the problem.  I did, and it did NOT.  We therefore concluded that I had a corrupted Chrome, and that I should uninstall it and reinstall.  I did.  Guess what, NO MORE PROBLEM.  Hooray!
    I shut down the computer that evening after doing yet another Windows Update (I had done an hour's worth the second day I got the machine, and a few minutes worth while online with the HP tech.  This was the 3rd one in 3 days).
    This morning, I booted up, and noticed quite a hang in Chrome.  Upon checking, I found that DAMNED file, tiworker.exe, happily chomping away at my CPU at the tune of 60%.  Same thing in Mozilla.  OH CRAP.
    I then went out  to have lunch with my friend, frustrated as hell, determined to get to the bottom of it when I returned.
    I  returned after being away for 4 hours.  The computer had been asleep for about 3 of those hours.  When it came back to life, Chrome was running, and after checking my e-mail for 10 minutes, I decided to check my performance.  Guess
    what???  NO MORE tiworker.exe.  I closed Chrome, opened Mozilla, played around a bit in it, checked my performance, and???  NO MORE tiworker.exe.
    I am totally convinced that the tiworker.exe problem is closely related to Windows Updates, and that MICROSOFT SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, to prevent it hanging on for many hours after an update is completed.  Their software has a serious bug in it
    that nobody wants to fix in a way that everybody can benefit.  PLEASE, Microsoft, FIX THIS once and for all!

    It could be that tiworker.exe doesn't actually have a problem and is just doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing.
    I noticed something similar last month, however someone here kindly looked at a xperf file I uploaded and found that tiworker.exe was carrying out a cleanup of the WinSxS folder by compressing files to free up space.  After just letting it run in the
    background for a few hours, it finished doing what it was doing and it hasn't bothered me since.
    Here's the original thread on it:

    QUESTION
    ========
    Customer is planning to upgrade from 10.2.0.1 and 10.2.0.2. Customer is running ASM ,so customer is asking do they need to apply Patch 4547817 on Database Home or to ASM home as well.
    ANSWER
    ======
    No. You dont need to apply Patch 4547817 on ASM home.You should apply Patch 4547817 on Database Home only. You dont need to apply Patch to ASM home. You are going to upgrade database from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.2. Database can be on 10.2.0.1 or 10.2.0.2 but ASM cant be.

    Hecuba,
    This was reported to R&D (# 141372) for further investigation by our developers. After preliminary investigation, it appears as if the CheckLimits() expression language function is not properly checking how many parameters you have passed to it.  If you pass the correct number of parameters, it should work correctly.

  • Madden 07 MAINAPP.exe Problem has Occu

    Hi all, I just installed a new Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Musicard and I am having a problem getting to play an actual game in Madden 07. I can load the start screen and make trades and so forth but when I hit the "play game" ?tab I get a black screen crash with the message "MAINAPP.exe problem has occured".
    I am also using a GeForce 7800GS 256mb Video Card, latest drivers (93.7)?and am hoping that the sound card does not conflict with this.
    Now I have tried Elder Scrolls Oblivion and am able to play?DVD's I just cant get Madden to work. Any suggestion? Thanks.<!-- Signature -->

    Problem Solved:
    1. Edit the C:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_2\Apache\Apache\conf\php5.ini file as follows
    doc_root = C:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_2\Apache\Apache\htdocs
    because php is not compile with force_redirect under CGI
    & also
    extension_dir = C:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_2\Apache\Apache\modules\php5ts.dll
    declare this directory because by default it is extension_dir = ".\php5\extensions"
    and we comment it out with a semi-colon at the beginning of the line
    and we need to explicitly specify the right directory because it is the directory in which the loadable extensions (modules) reside.
    2. Save the file and close it.
    3. Stop and Start the opmnctl components again.

  • Oracle ODBC Connection: TNS Problem?

    Hello!
    I'm trying to connect to a Oracle Database from a 64bit Linux machine.
    I'm using instantclient 10.2.0.4 64bit and oracle odbc driver.
    Here are all files and env variables, i created:

    [Oracle]
    Description = Oracle Driver
    Driver = /usr/lib/libsqora.so.10.1
    UsageCount = 2
    ODBC.INI

    Description = DS1
    Driver = Oracle
    Trace = Yes
    TraceFile = sql.log
    Database = //111.11.11.111:1111/db1
    User = user
    Password = pass
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH = :/usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.4/client64/lib
    SQLPATH = /usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.4/client64/bin
    I also had edited the SQLConnect.c and isql.c: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2260937&group_id=1544&atid=351544
    If i'm tring to connect to the database ( isql -v DS1 user pass ), i'm getting this error message:
    [S1000][unixODBC][Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12162: TNS:net service name is incorrectly specified
    I found a nice work-around for this problem:
    export TWO_TASK=//111.11.11.111:1111/db1
    After this change, i can connect to the database...
    But this means, all oracle connections are trying to connect to THIS server, right? But i need more then one server possibility...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, mdo.

    Hello
    I have found the resolution to the problem , and below is the details if required by any one .
    Thanks
    Harshad
    1. Using MS Access, follow the process to link tables from the Oracle
    database using the user account you wish to restrict, until the list of
    attachable objects is shown.
    2. Note the tables that appear in the list. You should see a long list of
    tables owned by multiple schema owners.
    3. Without linking any tables, close the Link Tables dialog box.
    4. Create an ALL_OBJECTS view and ALL_SYNONYMS view in the user's schema in
    which you used to log into the database.
    For example:
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW SCOTT.ALL_OBJECTS AS
    SELECT * FROM SYS.ALL_OBJECTS
    WHERE OWNER IN ('SCOTT');
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW SCOTT.ALL_SYNONYMS AS
    SELECT * FROM SYS.ALL_SYNONYMS
    WHERE OWNER IN ('SCOTT');
    5. Using MS Access, again follow the process to link tables from the Oracle
    database using the user account from above to log in.
    6. Note the tables that show up in the list. The only tables listed should
    be those owned by the schema owner specified by the views, if the example
    statement above is used.
    --NOTE that this technique has the limitation that only objects actually
    owned by the view user will be viewable. For example, if the user has
    a synonym that points to an object in another user's schema, it will not
    be visible

    I would suggest the following put in
    System.out.println(sql);
    right after the creation of the statement to look at it when it is complete.
    It is hard to see any other errors the way it appears in the forum.
    You can then copy it and try it exactly the way it is in assess and see if it
    works there.
    This may help find the problem.
    You can put in the following statement to see the sql logging.
    Note I have never tried it - it may show you the problem.
    java.sql.DriverManager.setLogStream(java.lang.System.out);
    Two other things - as I do not use access the comma is not
    standard in SQL.
    - what is in the fEmailAddress2 - is there any special
    characters that may be causing a problem - try i
    with blank field.

    I am using Windows 2003 server and have installed Oracle 10g SEONE. There is a service of OracleDBConsole which starts multiple perl.exe process in background. This results in full utilisation of Hard drive and memory. The task manager shows 100% utilization and over 3GB of Memory including Virtual memory utilization. My server is having 1GB RAM.

    We've got the same problem. Installed 10g on a new Dell server running Win 2003 Server.
    We see 2 Perl.exe processes that each take 50% of the cpu, appear to be in a loop, and consume huge amounts of memory until the server pretty much locks-up.
    I've seen this symptom several times on this forum and others, yet no one ever seems to come up with a resolution. Should I dump Oracle and use MySQL?
