Instructions for opening a Satellite Z930 with a slot for SIM card

Hello,
I have a Satellite Z930 which I would like to open in order to replace the original SSD with one having a higher capacity.
The thread http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=279122
was very helpful.
But my PC has a SIM card slot on the right side (side opposite to the microphone and the headphone)
Even after taking off all the 14 screws (including the torx one right in the center), the back cover can not be lifted up on the side of the SIM card slot. Something is holding it back.
Has anyone in the community already succeeded in removing the back cover for this confiuration ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Randy, Thanks anyway for your time.
After hesitating a bit, I finally decided to remove the SIM tray completely (since that was what was preventing the backcover from coming off).
When you pull at the tray (it is plastic and gray in color and opposite to the audio and video outlets), it does not come off completely when you pull it out normally to maximum (as when inserting a SIM card). You have to frankly tug and pull hard and the plastic tray comes out (just take care not to break it, whch shouldn't happen since the tray is supple and flexible).
Once the tray is out, the back cover comes off (like explained in several videos on the net, especially a good one mentioned by Randy).
Now, I could replace the original factory 128Gb SSD with a 480 Gb disk from mushkin (Atlas mSATA SSD).
This disk from mushkin is just about the right size to go into the Z930, a bit more bigger and it would not have fitted !
Hope this is useful to others.

  • Re: Instructions for opening a Satellite Z930 and upgrading the SSD

    Hi guys,
Just wondering if there is a service manual that would show me, or if anyone knows from experience, how to open a Satellite Z930 and upgrade the SSD. I know this will void my warranty but I don't care; Toshiba MobileCare won't have anything to do with it and I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for something I could do myself if I just knew how to remove the back cover!
I've removed all the bottom screws but the cover still won't come off...it seems to be stuck at the back-left corner. I'm guessing there's another screw under the keyboard or something...any help would be very much appreciated! :)

Ah-hah! Now we're finally getting somewhere! All I can see is 13 screws...so where the heck is the 14th?! Please see [this photo|http://dl.dropbox.com/u/64884336/screws.jpg] to see what I mean :-)

That's why I'm asking you guys for a service manual or instructions LOL...I've modded many laptops before without really knowing anything about them, but just following instructions from those that do. It's not really rocket science; you just need to know where the screws are and in which order to take things apart!
However, when I removed the 13 screws that I could see on the bottom of my Z930, the cover came off easily in all areas except the back-left corner, so that's why I came on here as I know how delicate these things are and don't want to wreck it, especially since I'll have a voided warranty afterwards LOL! :P

Edge has very clear restrictions, one being that you must have 6 months of clean payment history which you don't. Either wait until April 14, or good luck at Sprint.
I am unsure how it can be determined the payment mix up was the fault of CS, but regardless, the mix up was done. There can be any number of reasons why a payment could be missed without any fault on your part, however you are still the responsible party for the account and must live with the repercussions.

  • If i buy iphone 5 from the usa can i take it back and use it with my UK O2 sim card and how much will a 16gb iphone 5 cost

    Hi,
if i buy iphone 5 from the usa can i take it back and use it with my UK O2 sim card and also how much will a 16gb iphone 5 cost in the usa?
    thanks
    Andy

    hi there,
you could buy it somewhere in Europe. I know Apple sells them unlocked here in Germany and if I am not mistaken also (among others) in France and Italy.
Yet, as Peter wrote, the warranty can become a problem. Not sure whether a one country only rule goes for the European Community as well though.
As for the price, the 16 GB model costs 679,- € (equals roughly 550 £). Currently there is an average delivery time of 4 to 5 weeks.
LTE connections will not work with Orange or Vodafone. Only EE is about to offer a compatible LTE network. DC-HSPA and regular HSPA+ will work fine.
    regards, Chris

  • Which NB100 comes with Bluetooth and the sim card slot

i am wondering which model come with bluetooth and the sim card slot,

I was a little disappointed the Bluetooth is missing on the NB 1000 12A, agreed the Bluetooth logo is on the left side of the box although the actual product spec sticker is on the right side and it only mentions wireless b/g.
Some of the listings for this model online do say it has Bluetooth although its evident its not included.
I have ordered one of these to cover the lack of onboard Bluetooth support:

my daughter reset my iphone 4 now its asking for sim card but it don't have a sim card slot

Is this a 4 or 4s? What is the model number on the back? If its A1431 or A1387, it is a 4s, and does indeed have a sim tray. A1349 or A1332 will indicate an iphone 4.

  • Portege R500 with 3G - Instructions for SIM insertion

I have a R500 Model PPR50E that I think has built in 3G. Howevere I can find no documentation on how to insert a SIM card. One of the other model seems to suggest that the SIM is inserted behind the keyboard. Can anyone point me at some instruction documentation please?

Unfortunately there is no documentation available. (Maybe in the user manual but if there is nothing then you won´t find anything)
Here are some instructions on how to exchange the SIM card on a portege R400, so I think since both machines are quite similar, the instructions should apply to the R500 too:
Perform the following steps to insert/remove the SIM-Card:
    1. Shut the machine completely OFF. Make sure the POWER LED does not light.
    2. Remove the AC-adapter, the battery and all attached cables/peripherals.
    3. Open the Display.
    4. Remove the keyboard cover by putting a small flat-blade screwdriver into the small pit on the edge of the cover and pulling it gently out.
    5. Remove both screws which hold the keyboard down and turn the keyboard gently down. (Use a small cross-slot screwdriver to unscrew both screws).
    6. To turn the keyboard down, take the upper end of the keyboard, pull it gently up and lay the keyboard with the keys downwards on the palm rest of your machine.
    *ATTENTION:*
{color:#ff0000}+Do not touch the keys when turning the keyboard back. Make sure you hold the keyboard on both edges and lay it gently down on the palm rest!+
+The keyboard is connected to the machine with a flat-cable . Avoid pulling the cable out of the connector or damaging it!+
+Avoid dropping any objects (like paper clips, etc.) on the inside of the machine. A metal object could cause a short-circuit on the mainboard, which would lead to severe damage to your machine.+
    {color}
    7. Search for the SIM-Card Slot on the upper right side of the machine.
    8. Slide the locking mechanism of the SIM-Card Slot with the finger nails or a small object to the left to unlock it. (You can also use a small flat-blade screwdriver)
    9. Pull the SIM-Card Slot gently up.
    10. a) Insertion: Insert the card into the SIM-Card Slot. The metal chip of the SIM-Card must show upside.
    b) Removal: Pull the SIM-Card out of the Slot
    11. Turn the slot down and lock it by sliding the locking mechanism to the right.
    12. Insert the keyboard by placing the clips on the bottom of the keyboard into the grooves on the top of the palm rest. Flap the keyboard gently down and fix it by screwing the screws into the designated holes. Make sure that no screw were dropped on the inside of the machine!
    13. Install the keyboard holder on its position and push it down to fix it on its position.
    14. Attach the AC-adapter, the battery and all cables/peripherals.
    15. Activate you wireless device by pressing "FN+F8" when working under Windows.
*I must warn you, it´s on your own risk and if you do not feel comfortable with the installation procedure then bring the machine to an Authorized Service Provider, who can do the installation of the SIM card for you.*
    Good luck my friend :)

  • Travelling to U.S. with unlocked iPhone... Suggestions for SIM card use?

I have an unlocked iPhone 3G and will be in the U.S. for 3 weeks.
I would like to have all available 3G services while visiting, but could settle for text and voice.
Where can I find a prepaid SIM that will work with my iPhone?
    Thanks much!

There shouldn't be any issues using a pre-paid SIM card from another provider with an unlocked iPhone, but I have no experience with doing so. Your only other option is signing a contract with AT&T.
There is an easy way to find out. Purchase a pre-paid SIM card at an AT&T store. If there is a problem using the pre-paid SIM card while you are at the AT&T store and they are unable to resolve it, return the card and get your money back.
