Insufficient location for USB Device

I get the following error when I run the working program on another computer.
Error was -1073807343
Insufficient location information or the device or resource is not present in the system.
I have created an alias in my program #define THORLABS_ALIAS  "ThorLabs-ITC4001" and inside MAX I have added the alias to the device.  On both computers MAX finds the instrument and shows it working properly.
I had no problems using the instrument with the MAX setup on my development computer.
I have tried changing the alias to just ITC4001 in both my program and MAX but still get the same error.
What is the next step I need to do in troubleshooting this error?

Is this problem limited to this device? Do you have any other devices or instruments to test an alias on. Maybe something is wrong with your MAX installation or database. What version of MAX are you using? Could you send me a Spy Capture of your communication attempt? Might provide some further details. Follow the instructions here and make sure to enable logging to a file.

  • New format for USB devices.

I am facing an issue with new USB drives. There is a new standard for windows 8 when usb device in detected as an hard drive and not external driver. Thus SCCM is not able to create a boot media.
I have not done much research on it. I want to see if someone had same issues and got it to work?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi,
This is a known issue, best advice, by a cheap USB memory which doesn't present itself as an Hard Drive. There is no good workaround.

  • [UDev] No more uuidage for usb device ?

Since udev update, I haven't anymore symlinks in /dev/disk/by-uuid/ for my usb devices.. and I need them
/lib/udev/vol_id seem to have disappear too..
    Help °o°

    upgraded udev (141-5 -> 145-1)
I have still /dev/disk/by-uuid. But I have got problem too.
When I plug my usb external hard drive in, it took a long time to find it. And later I unplugged the drive, /dev/sdb /dev/sdb1 /deb/sdb2 /dev/sdb5 remains...
And my usb drive can't be found as /dev/sdc1 but only /dev/sdc, and it also remains after unplugging.
Another thing I noticed is that on boot, it took only 100ms the udev part, while it was 400+ms before.
    Something changed in udev obviously.
    Edit::
Just come and report back. After the second reboot after upgrading, my issue has gone.

  • IMac FireWire port used for USB device

I have a 27" iMac which of course has a FireWire port, but I don't own any external FireWire devices. I'd like to put that empty port to use as a USB port to connect an external storage device. Is there a cable, converter, or adapter made to do that?

Common user always looks at the bottom line price on computer peripherals and USB devices are always cheaper. USB 2.0, in theory, should be faster than FireWire 400, but they usually aren't because of the way USB transfers data in short bursts or packets of data. FireWire 400 and 800 drives are faster as they transmit data in a more continuous, constant and reliable stream of data.
This is why devices that use FireWire or have both USB and FireWire connections are always more expensive.
So, those users never use the FireWire port.
FireWire is faster for external hard drives, especially data transfers and for booting and running a Mac from an external FireWire drive. FireWire optical drives are faster. FireWire audio devices and interface devices are even faster and more reliable than USB.
FireWire is more expensive, but more reliable data transfer protocol.
There is no way to bridge the two device protocols . It's either one or the other. The masses always choose the cheaper USB devices.
The masses don't care about faster and consistent data transfer rates or  better reliability.
Especially if a user isn't some sort of creative like a graphics, designer, Illustrator, photographer, digital painer/3D-CGI Artist, engineer, audio or video/multimedia professional.

  • Is there any binding for USB devices?

I am looking for a Java library for USB joysticks.
    Does anyone know any?

You want an API to communicate with gaming devices; a joystick, regardless of the method of connection, is just a specific subset of that. There are some options. If you are creating a game or a simulation then you might want to look into the LWJGL API set which is a complete package for graphics, sound and gaming devices and it has a nice community; an alternative is JogAmp which delivers basically the same. High level than that there is LibGDX which builds on top of LWJGL but also allows you to deploy to Android, "html 5" and pretty soon iOS.
If all you want is to communicate with gaming devices you may want to look at the JxInput API.

  • NI-VISA as default driver for USB device with another manufacturer's driver?

    Hi Labview Developers or AE,
I have read the tutorial, "USB Control Tutorial Device" at link.
I read a paragraph "If you do not know the USB vendor ID and product ID, to get them, plug
the device into the computer and allow the computer to recognize the
new device. Cancel out of the Found New Hardware Wizard if it starts.
Open the Device Manager from the Control Panel and find your device on
the list, usually under "Other Devices". It may show a yellow
exclamation mark indicating it is an unknown device. Double click the
device to open the properties. Select the Details tab and ensure that
"Device Instance Id" shows in the attribute dropdown box. A string of
characters will be displayed similar to Figure 3. The four characters
to the right of "VID_" and "PID_" are your vendor ID and product ID,
respectively. Write down the characters for your device, close the
Device Manager, and unplug the device from the computer. Alternatively,
you can contact your device vendor to obtain this information."
I am wondering if it is okay to install two drivers together and do labview with two of them simultaneously. I am using Advantech USB-4716. I installed Advantech driver so that I can use Advantech-labview functions to control and measure. unfortunately, , there's no advantech function like reset.vi  in case of problem reading. So I wondering if it is okay to use NI-VISA driver by wizard as mentioned above and advantech-Labview functions together. I have not figured out  how to reset Advantech USB-4716.
    Pls  advise. Thanks

    Hi Nicholas,
I found the drivers in those links.
First of all the customer must install our Device manager ( DAQ Tool ) and Driver
    http://support.advantech.com.tw/support/DownloadSRDetail.aspx?SR_ID=1-246K8V
That's he needs to do always before using our devices.
For LabVIEW he also needs to install in addition the LabVIEW driver
    http://support.advantech.com.tw/support/DownloadSRDetail.aspx?SR_ID=1-29WTFD
It is the LabVIEW or LabVIEW DAQ , it depends on customer LabVIEW software that he is using
After installation he will get in LabVIEW ready made VI ( examples ) to use from Advantech and also the Manual

  • Windows 7 x64 only installs the drivers for USB devices that are plugged in upon system startup

    Hi all,
I have a most unusual problem. On my personal desktop, I can only use USB devices that are plugged in upon system startup. If I unplug a USB device and then plug it in again, the driver will not install correctly. I cannot force the device to start and I
can't pick a driver manually. All I get is this. If I plug in a USB device and then reboot, the driver gets installed correctly and I can use it until I unplug it again. I'm pretty sure it's a Windows issue
but I can list the hardware I have if it is needed.
    I have tried:
Running an SFC /SCANNOW as administrator
Uninstalling all USB controllers via device manager and letting them reinstall
Neither worked to resolve the issue. If this was a client's computer I would probably just reinstall Windows but because this is my main work PC it'd be a huge hassle to do it, so I'd really appreciate any other ideas anyone has. If I have to reinstall I
    will. Thanks!

    Hi,
Since the issue just happened for 4 monthes, I consider that some changes or updates may cause the issue.
Please also try to restore the system back to the point before this issue.
You can also try these steps:
1.Power down your laptop or desktop
2.Physically unplug the computer.  If it’s a laptop, remove the battery too.
3.Leave it disconnected for three minutes
4.Replug the desktop or reinsert the battery
    5.Power on the system

  • Is it possible (and as easy as for GPIB) to develop labview drivers for USB devices?

I dont want to use GPIB at all, just USB.
    Thank you in advance.

The best way to call your USB device would be through your USB driver. The third party device vendor should provide a driver (dll) that can be called from LabVIEW using Call Library Node.

    Hello there Smart43,
It sounds like you are not able to correctly see the message you are typing because the keyboard is in the way. I can understand how that would be pretty frustrating. I would start by quitting the running apps on your device:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

  • Little progress = still looking for usb devices

hey there. i am running Arch w/ 2..6.7
my usb system seems to be jaxed up. xcdroast did not find my usb cd/writer and although gtkam selects the right camera for my usb camera, it gives me an error like
    "cannot list folders in / " -
i may have some kernel modules that still need to load but i dont know which ones.
any help here would be great. How do you get usb working in Arch ? thanks all

ok, well i got the usb camera working. Google prodced this, modprobe ochi-hcd. so i did that and added it to rc.conf and now the camera works ok. still think i am going to go for digikam though. he he.
the CDRW is a TDK usb one. Its usb 2 but i think that my motherboard usb port is only usb 1.
It works fine in Debian ( which i got rid of for Arch ) and thats cool. This is the last piece of hardware now i have yet to get going.
the google results also suggested loading echi-hcd but when i tried the messsage i got was "could not find module echi_hcd.

  • Can a USB device be owned even when logged out?

We are trying to deploy THUM (temperature and humidity USB measurement) devices from Practical Design Group --- simple USB-attached devices to track ambient temperature in our application --- on a variety of Mac hardware all running OS X 10.5.2. We've found, not too surprisingly in retrospect, that when a user logs out, or even is sent into stasis by fast user switching to another user, that user, even as a cron job, can no longer access the USB device --- the USB ports, after all, have to be available to whoever may then be the "console" user. We're trying to run a cron job (that is, one run every n minutes) that will run the vendor's OS X executable to sample the temperature and append the result to a file, to build up a temperature record.
Is there any way around this? We would like to be able to grab the particular USB device and assign it to the original user through any login or logout or fast user switch as long as the machine stays up.
We know that there's a default setting to automount volumes on boot without user, and are wondering if there's anything similar for USB devices.
I've had a look around the Apple USB Device Interface Guide, but it doesn't appear to discuss this issue.
Thanks in advance for any clues.

  • Is it possible to wait longer for USB with mkinitcpio-solved

    Hi,
I recently installed from an arch0.7.2-base CD, but can't boot after the mkiniticpio upgrade, including with the kernel26-fallback.img.
My root partiition is on a USB hard-drive, and it seems like the drive isn't being detected in time.
With mkinitrd I could specify a delay to wait for USB devices to settle, but there doesn't appear to be anything similar in mkinitcpio, is there?
This may not be the problem at all, of course, but on one occasion when I booted with break=y, just after the message about break requested, there is no ls binary etc.,
usb2-4: new fullspeed USB device using OHCI_HCD address 2
came up, which looked like it had found the USB device, but too late.
(This is after it says it failed to detect the filesytem type etc.)
When I do break=y and echo /dev/*, my hda devices are there,  but there are no sda devices, just  a series of usbdev files (e.g. usbdev1.1_ep00 ).  Is that normal?
Sorry for posting yet another mkinitcpio question.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Let me know if there's any other output I should post.
    Thanks,
    Fishonadish

    Update:
I'm fairly certain the lack of wait time for USB is the problem now.
I can now boot into arch fine provided I use break=y.
I get the messages about about not finding the root device then the break requested section then, after the ramfs$ prompt appears I get
SCSI device sda: [number] 512-byte hdwr sectors [number] MB
    and so on...
and when I type exit at the prompt it boots fine.
To get this far I rebuilt the kernel26.img with the following in mkinitcpio.conf:
    MODULES="usb-storage ext3"
    HOOKS="base udev autodetect usb filesystems"
(Not sure about this, but it seems putting usb-storage in modules got me this far?)
I still need to get it to delay for USB for a bit longer so I don't have to type 'exit' at the ramfs prompt every time I want to boot, or is it some other problem?
If this has been dealt with before, then sorry for the repetition, but I can't find anything covering it elsewhere.
    Thanks.

  • USB Device Recognized by Mac, Not by Application

The general questions are why would the Mac recognize a USB device but the application software for the device "suddenly" (after a couple weeks of not using it) stop recognizing it and stop working, and what is the solution?
Specifically, I am running Leopard 10.5.5 on a MacBook Pro. Xrite’s Colormunki (monitor calibration and printer profiler device and software) worked twice, and now the device does not function with its software. The MacBook sends power to the Colormunki (its internal light flashes briefly as it is first connected to the Mac), the Mac recognizes the Colormunki (it shows up by name in the System Profiler), but the Colormunki software does not recognize that it is connected. A software alert message says it is not connected and asks that it be connected. Disconnecting and then reconnecting the device does not solve the problem.
At the suggestions of tech support at both Apple and Xrite (both have been very patient and persistent in trying to solve the problem), I have uninstalled the Colormunki software (using Xrite’s Colormunki Uninstall utility) and reinstalled it, reset the Pram, disconnected the Mac from AC and removed the battery, repaired permissions, and “repaired” the hard drive. I have set up a test user account on the Mac to try to determine if the problem is user-specific; it is not. I have tried a different Colormunki on the Mac with no other peripherals attached. It didn’t work either.
Both tech supports agree that this is an OS problem, not an application problem. Apple’s final suggestion was to do an archive and restore. This can be a bit of a hassle, the more so because I don’t really know if it will work. Is there a simpler solution or an explanation of what might have happened to cause the problem?

Using USB devices that take power from a computer is, in my opinion, a very iffy thing to do.
On my older MBP, I can use my Pinnacle HDTV stick only on the right-hand USB port. On the left, after a time, the USB port reverts to USB 1.1.
There is a very strict power limit for USB devices powered from the computer and exceeding this limit can damage the port or at least shut it down until a reboot.
It's best to use only USB devices that have their own power, or run them through a USB2 powered hub.
I am not sure this is the solution to your issue, but many have had similar experiences to mine using USB ports on MBPs.
if you go to the MBP forum and search for USB you will find a plethora of issues.
