'insufficient permissions" problem solved!

I've struggled with the permissions problem - first with iMovie and then with iPhoto and in someone else's response was the answer.  When I had tried resetting the permissions on a folder with the 'get info' command, I had not applied the permissions to the whole folder!  In the 'get info' panel, at the very bottom, is a settings icon.  Select that and choose 'apply to enclosed items...'.  Once I did that, the problem went away!  It takes awhile for the permissions to be reset if the folder has loads of files but it solved the problem - iMovie and iPhoto both work now.  I'm happy and I hope this will help someone else struggling with this problem.

One suggestion would be to call your java class from one of the Reports trigger using import java functionality. Thsi way probabaly you the folder created would have the owner as oracle only. Other possible solution would be to attach your own destination class to Report server. This destination class would do all the work, creating the folder, copying the cache reports output to desire folder etc. You can refer to Reports SDK at http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/apis/index.html on how to plugin your custom destination to Report server.

  • Unable to update flash - insufficient priviliges - problem solved

    Dear community,
please help me out. After beeing abrouad for half a year I just recently reinstalled my desktop, went trough all the necesarry update, except for one: Flash.
Every time I try to update the newest version of flash I get the message that I have insufficient priviliges, even though I try and install it using the admin account. This even happens when I right click, run as admin.
My system specs are as follows:
OS Version: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium, Service Pack 2, 32 bit
Processor: intel core 2 duo CPU E4500 @2.20 ghz @2.20 ghz
    RAM: 3,0 gb
Antivirus: Avast (updated) and Threatfire (updated)
So far I have tried the following methods to try and install the newest version of flash
dissable my protections and try again - no luck
right click and run as admin - no luck
uninstall the previous version of flash and clean the registry - no luck
make a new admin account and try downloading it there - no luck
use CCleaner to clean the registry and try again - no luck
use malwarebytes antimalware to check for stuff my regular protection missed and try again - no luck
download subinacl and reset_fp11 as suggested here: http://helpx.adobe.com/nl/flash-player/kb/flash-player-windows-registry-permissions.html - no luck
edit: while browsing this forum I found this sollution http://forums.adobe.com/message/3742743#3742743 centering around using http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html for the install. This still did not fix the issue for me, but it did give me some more specific information. Apparently the problems lies with flashplayer.xpt:5 (what ever that may be).
edit 2: The flashinstall.txt gives the following information (at least I hope that for you it is information, for me these are just meaningless strings of letters):

  • Disk Permissions Problem on External HD Accessed Wirelessly

    Hello,
I recently purchased a LaCinema Connect MiniHD and have been using it with a Western Digital 750Gb drive (formatted Mac OS Case Sensitive, non-journaled). I also recently bought a D-Link DWA-125 wifi dongle to use with the LaCinema.
I can access and read/write to the drive without problem when it connected via USB to my computer or to my wife's laptop. However, when I try to trasnfer to it wirelessly over the network (i.e. when the drive is connected to the LaCinema which, in turn, is on the network) I receive error messages when I attempt to transfer files to certain folders (including the "root" folder). What is interesting is that the folders that I can transfer to appear to be ones that were created on my old work computer, with an earlier OS version (definitely not Snow Leopard).
I suspect that I have some sort of permissions problem, but "Repair Permissions" is not available to me for this drive in Disk Utility.
I have plugged in the drive into my computer and have reset the permissions so that the "owner", "staff", and "everyone" are able to read and write for all folders and sub-folders, but it has not solved the problem.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Graeme.

    Eric,
I, too, apologize for the delay in posting. I have been away from the discussions for a rather extended period.
Well, any NTFS formatted volume will only be accessible to you as read only. No, this is not something new, but has always been the case. To make matters worse, I have heard that Windows no longer provides any way to create a FAT-32 volume; one must use OS X to format the volume or use a third-party application in Windows. This information may be incorrect, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is true (we're talking about Microsoft, here).
If you can copy any data on this drive to some other location, then use Disk Utility to format it as FAT-32, the data can then be copied back and it can be used to transport the data cross-platform, with read/write access on both ends. Is this a possibility for you?

  • 10.4.6 update permissions problems

Anyone know how to solve the permissions problems from the 10.4.6 update. For some reason after doing the update we can read only from our servers and they have a little lock icon next to them!!
after searching the net a bit i know other people are having the same problems but cannot find a cure,
    anyone know???? help help
    cheers

Same problem here.... Luckily--and it was pure dumb luck on my part--I only updated two computers before catching this problem.
I'm curious if you've found any resolution to the problem? If so, could you post it here? If not, I'll post anything I manage to find....

  • What to do if it is telling me I have "Insufficient Permissions?"

Well I've been having several problems.
First is when I go to install it I get a screen saying that the file "C:\Windows\System\32\Macroomed\Flash\NPSWF32.dll:5" could not be written due to insufficient permissions. I have no idea how to fix this or change it.
Here's a picture of the message that pops up:
And whenever I try to click the troubleshooting for it, it wont take me anywhere. The link is basically useless. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash player. But nothing seems to work.
Next is whenever I try to go install the plugins (for mozilla firefox) I get messages saying that the file cannot be downloaded. Or there is an error or something, but overall it basically says that the plugin cannot be installed.
I hope someone can help me. Any advice would be insanely helpful.

Hi, ok that's out of the way. When you had a problem trying to Install Flash Player in FF, I'm not sure what that Insuffieient Permissions message was referring to. If you are the Administrator, which you must be or you wouldn't have been able to Install in IE, then it may have been about not using the DLM.
The first thing you want to make sure is that the Security for the Internet Zone is set to Medium. And now that it is appearing that Firefox is getting restrictive about permissions, etc. as ActiveX is under IE, we need to make sure that no Anti-Virus will be blocking it. If your AV didn't block IE, then we are ok on that.
Download the Flash Player Installer for Firefox and SAVE it to your Desktop:
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe
Once that is done, Close All browsers. RUN the Installer and when it is finished, Reboot Once.
Then check your Flash files folder and post back the files now listed. Then check the plug-ins for that SWF and make sure it is Enabled.
Hopefully this will be successful. If you get any messages during this Install, make a note and let me know.
    Thanks,

  • Insufficient perms/long filename errors

I formatted a WD external HDD to have an HFS+(for backup using SuperDuper) and 2 FAT partitions. I had been using the hard drive without any errors, and did a reformat of OS X recently. Then, I wiped the three partitions on external HDD. When trying to copy files that I downloaded a day or two ago (after OS X reformat), from OS X's downloads folder to the HFS partition, it shows an error that some files have long filenames and cannot be copied. Some other files show error of insufficient permission.
    Can it be fixed?

I was trying to copy files downloaded to my Macbook HD to an non-journaled HFS+ partition and it worked. However, when I tried to copy the same files from the external HDD to a different folder on Macbook HD, it shows an error about insufficient permissions.
For the partition in external drive, I've checked "ignore permissions" and my username shows up under the list of owners. I also did a repair/repair permissions from Disk utility in the OS X install DVD. The DVD and Macbook contains the same OS X version (10.5.5), so I don't think an out-of-date Disk Utility messed up things.
I'd run the external HDD and Macbook with 10.5.5, without any problems before reinstalling OS X and problems cropped up.

  • WRT600N USB Storage Problems Solved

For a couple of years, I've been living with all the problems others have reported with the WRT600N USB storage - lost connections, permissions problems, rebooting the router to recover access to the USB drive, etc. I solved my problems, mostly, by switching to a DLink DIR-655 router. I assume other routers in the Dlink family that support USB devices will perform similarly.
My main problem seemed to be interference from the microwave, which is in an open kitchen/keeping room arrangement in my house. However, the bottom line is that any time I lost wireless connectivity to the router, due to the microwave or unknown causes, I'd lose access to the USB drive. This meant a trip upstairs to power cycle the router and the USB drive several times a day.
With the Dlink, I still sometimes lose wireless connectivity due to the microwave or unknown causes, but not as often. Sometimes, but not always, this will cause me to lose the USB drive access. If I do need to reboot the router, I can do so from the web based interface, something that was not possible with the WRT600N, so no more trips upstairs to perform this operation. I also find have a stronger wireless signal in my work location with the Dlink.
Dlink uses a SharePort software utility to manage the USB connection and this has to be installed on all PC's that want access to the USB device. SharePort makes a USB device appear to be a local device attached directly to the computer you're using and you can attach external drives/printers/probably USB hubs. (I've experimented only with an external USB drive.) Because of this, however, only one computer can attach to the USB device at a time - not a problem for me, but you need to be aware. The software has a mechanism for requesting access to the USB device from one computer, when the device is in use by another computers. You can also set it to automatically connect to the USB device if its available, to try a reconnect if connection is lost, and to automatically run a program when the USB device connects. Dlink says SharePort will support FAT or NTFS formatted drives and there's no known limitation on the drive size.
Dlink support doesn't seem much better than here - it took about three weeks for me to get an answer on the external drive size and formatting options. There are plenty of complaints on the Dlink support site about poor support, poor performance of SharePort, etc.  So, all I can say is their router/USB device sharing has worked much better for me than my Linksys WRT600N ever worked.

Welcome to the WRT600N nightmare. The Storage Link is poorly documented, and the firmware controlling it has issues. Basically, it will corrupt file date/times stamps whenever you copy files onto the attached drive. It has also been known to be a bit flaky about maintaining the drive as a connected/mapped drive. Backup programs may have difficulty accessing the drive via Storage Link. Depending on the file format you use, you may encounter file size limitations on the Storage Link drive.
I, personally, gave up after a few days of these issues mentioned above and bought extra USB hard drives for each computer in the house rather than try and use the Storage Link as a NAS.
What O/S are you using on your computer? I can try and walk you through the setup.

  • Permissions Problems PT.II The Empire Strikes Back

Hello all. I initially had a permissions problem with files on my computer after upgrading from Tiger to Leopard last week. I thought I had the problem solved with the doubleteam effort of RodneyW. and V.K. The topic is here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1510598&tstart=0
Now all the folders in my Documents and Pictures are fully accessible to me.
A bit of background: when I log into the mac, I am always logged in as an administrator with my username.
Today, I checked the permissions of my applications, and some of them which I installed myself still say that I have 'custom' access, and at the same time showing on the list of users my username with "read and write" permissions!!! Argh!!!!!
Here is a list of programs that I had installed on my computer which are now showing that I have custom access while logged in using my regular username (and I am an admin).
    *Application: User/Privilege:*
*Tax program* myusername(me)/ read & write
    admin / read
    everyone / read
*Bits on Wheels* myusername(me) / read & write
    (unknown) / read
    everyone / read
    Firefox myusername(me) /read & write
    admin / read
    everyone / read
    flip4mac system / read & write
    admin / read & write
    everyone / read
*Logitech Harmony remote* _unknown / read & write
(software for remote control) (unknown) / read & write
    everyone / read & write
Maintenance system / read & write
    admin / read & write
    everyone / read
*Microsoft autoupdate* _unknown / read & write
    admin / read & write
    everyone / read
*Microsoft office 2008* system / read & write
    admin / read & write
    everyone / read
    Opera myusername(me) / read & write
    admin / read & write
    everyone / read
    Skype myusername(me) / read & write
    (unknown) / read
    everyone / read
    Unarchiver myusername(me) / read & write
    (unknown) / read
    everyone / read
    VLC myusername(me) / read & write
    admin / read
    everyone / read
    *Yahoo Messenger* myusername(me) / read & write
    admin / read
    everyone / read
It seems as if the mac does not recognize me (in some cases) when I am logged in.. because why do I have 'custom' access, while in the list of users, I can see myself with "read and write" access.
Also, if you look at one of the codes given by V.K to input into terminal, specifically:
    *chmod +a "everyone deny delete" ~/ ~/Desktop ~/Documents ~/Downloads ~/Library ~/Movies ~/Music ~/Pictures ~/Public ~/Sites*
*I don't see "applications" there.. could that have omitted the permissions fix?*
    Thanks for your attention.

I think I may have done something not so smart... because I don't know Terminal very well. I did not know that I had to wait for the prompt:
    *Macintosh:~ myusername$*
before entering a new command. Because what I did after I entered the first command:
    s*udo chmod -R - N /Applications*
    and got the reply:
*chmod: N: No such file or directory*
there was a little grey box directly underneath it. So I put the rest of the commands in (pressing enter after each line, which gave me a little grey box on the next line).
Then after a minute or two I closed terminal, but it asked me if I wanted to close it since there were commands running. So I chose "Cancel" but then the terminal dissapeared!!!
    Did I do something stupid?
Anyway, I redid it, but this time waited until the prompt with my username popped up and this is the result:
*Last login: Thu May 8 16:50:05 on ttys000*
    *Macintosh:~ myusername$ sudo chmod -R - N /Applications*
*chmod: N: No such file or directory*
    *Macintosh:~ myusername$ sudo chmod +a "everyone deny delete" /Applications /Applications/Utilities*
    *Macintosh:~ myusername$ sudo chown -R root:admin /Applications*
    *Macintosh:~ myusername$ sudo chmod -R g=rw,+X /Applications*
    *Macintosh:~ myusername$*
I checked the applications folder afterwards, but nothing has changed in regards to my problem. Do I have to reboot to see changes?

  • System Wide Permissions Problem

I have a MacBook Pro, OS 10.5.8, which I've been using since 2009, and this is the first time I've encountered the problem described below.
I'm suddenly having what seems to be a system wide permissions problem. Tonight I found I couldn't add a new folder (the option was grayed out), and I noticed a pencil icon with a line through it at the bottom of the window. When I chose Get Info for that window, my name was missing from Sharing & Permissions. There was also a new name, "wheel", which I've never seen before. (3 names in all: system, wheel, eveyone.) This affects a lot of folders stemming off the HD (Applications, Library, etc.), but my user folder folder is unaffected.
I've rebuilt the permissions several times in Disk Utility, and also repaired the disk after getting an error message when verifying. But the permissions problem is still there.
So I'm wondering what in the heck could have caused this, and how can I fix it?
I found I could add my name back to the permissions list in one of the affected folders, using Get Info, and this solved the issue for that folder, but there are a LOT of folders with the same issue. Perhaps if I did this with the HD folder, and selected the "Apply to enclosed items" option at the bottom?
FWIW, we just bought & set up a new iMac, OS 10.8.2, last week. I looked at a number of folders on it using Get Info, and it seems to be configured pretty much the same way with regard to permissions, which is a little spooky. Don't know if it makes any difference, but I used the same user name, login password, apple ID & password when I set up the new computer as I have on my Macbook. Could that have caused this somehow?
Thanks for any help or thoughts.

Thank you, BDAqua for the link.
I use my MacBook Pro mainly for creating music (DAW program & plug-ins). I've occasionally had to change permissions on individual plug-ins, but never to a group of folders on this scale.
I'm wondering if there's a way to get my old permissions back, or if I should leave it as is at this point, and add my user name to the permissions on individual folders as the need arises? Don't want to screw everything up, as this is getting a little over my head.
    Any recommendations?

  • PROBLEM SOLVED--CS5 WIN7 X64 INSTALL ERROR DEPENDENCY FAILURE

    PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just spent 9  hours straight on this, but will was stronger than "its". Now I have  both cs4 and cs5, but hopefully it will work if you just have cs5 as  well. I also did not try runnning cs5 installer first after implementing  the fix, maybe that will work too..And when getting the cs5 error, I  went to re-install cs4 but got an error as well so that is why I took  the steps I did. On 7x64 do the followin
First  run the cs5 cleanup tool and reboot.
Second,  go into c:\program file(x86)\common files\adobe\installers . Delete  everything in it
Then go into you registry  (start, run, then type regedit) and expand to this registry key:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\ Components  ...(if this isnt there, try an install again, then go to the folder  that you deleted the files from a moment ago and extract the log from  the zip file and open it and go to the end. where it says error 1402  will be followed by a unknown\components\(a bunch of numebers right  here)\(more numbers)  ...
Copy the numbers  directly after the components\ and go back into registry and click edit  then "find" paste those numbers into the box and hit find..when you get  to the key, scroll ALL the way back up to components again. Right click  components and hit permissions.. Go to advanced and then the ownership  tab up top.. click edit, hightlight administrator(s), check the box to  "replace subcontainers" and click apply. respond yes to everything and  close that and hit apply again if asked. then click the add button above  the advanced button you just clicked. when the new box appears, click  advanced and then click find now. Highlight Administrators and SYSTEM  and hit OK. Then give both of them full rights and hit apply. Then click  advanced again and in the first window check the box that says "replace  all child objects...." and hit apply. accept the prompts and hit okay.
Now  go into c:\windows and on the system32 folder, right click and go to  properties. Go to the security tab. Click advanced and then "owner" and  click edit. highlght administrators and check the box "replace all child  object....." again and hit apply....
Now give  Administrators, SYSTEM, AND TrustedInstaller full rights by clicking  edit above the advanced tab in the first properties box.. Then click  advanced again and in the first window click replace all child  object....." again and hit apply....
Now  do the same for the winsxs folder and (for good measure i did syswow64  but not sure if its necessary)...
Now you should  be able to install both versions..(as i said, I installed cs4 first,  maybe it was not necessary)...
If you dont  like the idea of just blindly giving administrators full rights to all  system folders, you can spend MANY MANY hours running the installs over  and over and getting the faulty registry value that caused it to fail  and create specific permissions for that and then go on to the next  value that fails......what a pain

    Thank you for this.
I have been trying to install CS5 MC now for weeks. I first got it to install everything except After Effects and Premiere Pro. Then trying to follow all the suggestions on this forum I wound up not being able to install any part of it at all. Now..
Well...following your kind suggestions as much to the letter as I could I have now been able to install everything...except Affter Effects and Premiere Pro. Sigh.
At least I can get back to work on everything that doesn't require AE and PPro.  I still need to get them installed and working.

  • Insufficient permissions for system restart

    Hi All,
We are receiving the following error when attempting to restart a domain controller, after MS updates have been installed, from within SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 software center.
    "Insufficient permissions for System Restart"
"Restarting this computer is only allowed for users with administrative permissions, or your IT department does not allow you to restart this computer"
The user on the domain controller can restart the server using a normal windows shutdown procedure outside of the software center, as they are in the Active Directory domain "backup operators" group.
The domain controller is running server 2008 R2 SP1.  The SCCM 2012 infrastructure is running R2 CU1 with the latest client installed on the domain controller.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Regards PowerShell90

    Hi Garth,
    Thanks for the quick reply
Domain administrators can install the updates and reboot within software centre without a problem.  No restrictions have been put in place for the domain controllers or backup operators.  We allow the Microsoft default option to allow members of
the domain "Backup Operators" to shut down domain controllers.  They are able to do this on the DC, but they get an error when trying to complete this through SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 software centre.  I can't understand why?

  • Bizarre and frustrating permissions problem

We are a two person office, my colleague works with shared files stored on my computer. Nowadays the connection is via Airport. The problem is that apparently at random, my colleague cannot work on them various files because they have lost sharing permission to write and I cannot give them back. The drop down menu only offers "read-only". My colleague's computer is an iMac G4 running 10.5.8. However this problem started ten months ago when I was using the G4 and she was using an older G3. Our normally reliable external techie reseller has so far not solved the problem. he says its by "design of the OS". But if thats so, why arent there thousands of similar complaints? This is a basic facility, to share files on a read and write basis.
It seems to us that the problems seemed to start soon after, at our techie's suggestion, we bought a TimeCapsule, whose function is to back up the files, which it does automatically. Our techie denies that the TC can have anything to do with the permissions problem, but he doesnt have another answer, and we are suspicious of the TC, which after all intervenes with the files every few hours to make a back-up...
    Any ideas gratefully received

Thanks for that tip, we will look at it; but I would like to get to the bottom of this. For 13 years I have been sharing files successfully. It is a basic facility that anyone should expect. Any suggestions or remarks gratefully received.

  • Z30 Camera hardware Error or Insufficient Permissions

Since the Verizon update to 10.2.1.2126 I cannot use my camera and receive the message " camera can't be started due to hardware error or insufficient permissions". I have attempted restarts and pulled the sim to reload the OS directly from Blackberry but still the same error. I finally gave up and contacted Verizon but the replacement they sent was a refurb unit and there was no power left at all on the unit. I charged it and when it started it immediately went into a screen that in engish asked if I wanted to enable blackberry reader assistance but the selections for i guess yes or no were in what looked like russian. I would press the right selection which was i believe no and the next screen to come up you needed to select the language. I would press english, the speaker output would say english but no touch screen box would show up. I restarted the z30 3 more times before i finally pressed the left selection which i assume was accept then i could select english, touch screen would work and it went thru the startup progress getting to the point to download a updated os which i did. It took about 20 minutes to download the update on wifi and about 1 hour to install it. After installation it asked to restart which i selected yes and after 2 minutes the screen was blank and the green led was solid. I left it this way until i woke up this morning and held down the power button to restart. The restart took 30 minutes and it now shows 10.2.1.2126
The problem is I don t trust this refurb and I would like to get the camera working on my z30 that is only 3 months out of the box. Any suggestions?

Watching for Possible Solutions-I am having the same issue and I have done a security wipe and reset twice to try and fix this with no success.

  • My Safari Keychain Problem Solved

I've been reading lots of posts about problems with the use of keychains from within Safari. I found a solution to my problem that, if it's been reported somewhere else, I have seen it.
    I did two things:
1.) I reset my password in my Safari Forms Autofill key (if that's the right term). There was a seires of unrecognizable characters where the password should be (corruption you thinK?) I moved that key into the default keychain, my username. It was previously in login.
2.) I found lots of duplicate keys between the login keychain and the username keychain. Why keychain repair didn't repair this, I have no idea. It should. I deleted all the duplicate webform passwords. Repaired keychain and disk permissions, just for the heck of it.
Logged out, logged back in. Problem solved.
    Hope that helps.
