Integrating Cognos Cubes into OBIEE

Is there any way to integrate cognos cubes+ into OBIEE and use them in OBIEE..?

No direct one for the time being. You can't import Cognos metadata into the rpd like you would for Essabse or MS Analysis Services.

Windows error when importing Essbase cube into OBIEE

Hi all:
This question is perhaps more relevant to the OBIEE forum, but I put it up there a few days ago and got no response. So now I'm hoping to get some help on this side of BI land!
My issue is that I'm trying to import an Essbase cube (system 11) into BI Admin Tool, but whenver I go to "Import from multidimensional" and hit "OK" after entering in the essbase server name and log/pwd, the BI Admin tool crashes. I get no error msg except for a couple of errors I see in the Windows event log:
1. Faulting application path: C:\OracleBI\server\Bin\AdminTool.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\Essbase\EssbaseClient\bin\essapinu.dll
2. Faulting application path: C:\OracleBI\server\Bin\AdminTool.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll
I'm running a standalone OBIEE 10.1.3.4 on my local machine (Windows 7 32-bit) and the Essbase Server is on a separate Windows 2008 machine. I can ping between machines and all ports are open on the Essbase machine, so I don't think this is a network related issue. Also, my OBI RPD is working fine in all other respects. I have other data sources working in there with no trouble. My Essbase server is also working fine. I also tried to do this in a new RPD in case the old one was corrupted, but get the same issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Akshay,
You must have the Essbase client installed on the same machine where your OBI Administration Tool is installed. This should get you past the error that you are receiving and should fix your problem. Since you are running 32-bit just download the 32-bit Essbase client from Oracle. You will most likely need to run download the required files to install the Essbase client and with Hyperion 11x you should be familiar with that required software matrix since you have Essbase running on a seperate server already.
But now looking at your post I see that you state that one of the paths in your error is C:\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\Essbase\EssbaseClient\bin\essapinu.dll. The path C:\Oracle\Middleware is usually seen in Hyperion EPM 11.1.2. So, are you running Essbase 11.1.2 and OBIEE 10g or are you running OBIEE 11g? You'll need to specificy as OBIEE 11g can only interface with Hyperion Essbase 11.1.2 at present. And if I recall correctly the 11.1.2 Essbase client does not work with OBIEE 10g. Please clarify on these points.
Let me know if that helps fix your issue. If that doesn't fix it post back here and we see if we can keep you going forward.

Problem with Integration Essbase cube with obiee

Hi Everyone,
I am in a OBIEE where i need to use Essbase cubes as source for generating OBIEE reports.I am able to import the cube successfuly into Physical layer and when i drag it into BMM layer its getting splitted up into Facts,dimensions and hierachies. No measure in fact table of cube in BMM layer. What i got to know was all the meaures what all needed for reporting are into one hierachy and when i get it into BMM layer its getting converted into Dimension. Here i tried to generate reports by making dimension as fact but no use.
Please suggest me ,any other ways to get it.

Issue in integrating Essbase cubes with OBIEE

I am trying to use Essbase cubes as datasource in OBIEE for generating reports,but the issue is in generating , No columns in fact table of cube in BMM layer.
Outline of cube is

I am confused how to generate reports without measures in fact table.

in that case it's as I thought:
Or did you just not specify any measure hierarchy?You tried this...
In BMM layer i made this dimension as fact and tried to create reports but not use....which isn't the way. First of all your cube seems to be built quite bizarre since it doesn't even provide a default measure hierarchy so I'd have your Essbase guys check that.
As for the OBIEE side: the key is the physical layer. BMM's already too late. In the physical cube object, you must define one of the hierarchies as the measure hierarchy (since your cube doesn't seem to provide it; see above):

Export OLAP 11G AW/Cubes to OBIEE 11g

Hi Experts,
If anyone has handled this assignment of exporting OLAP 11G AW/Cubes to OBIEE 11g, Please share all details. Currently we use BO for reporting requirements and before going ahead with OBIEE 11g would like to make sure there is not much of a gap. As of now we see a lot of incompatibility while exporting like some dims and cubes cannot be exported and so on. Any white paper/docs/information on this from experienced folks are welcome.
We are on 11.2.0.3 db release.

Here is some basic information about importing 11g analytic workspace cube and dimension metadata into OBIEE.
There are two basic options as I suspect you already know:
Option 1) Before the release of OBIEE 11.1.1.5 (I believe), there was no native support for the OLAP option within the administrator tool of OBIEE, and
one needed to use the AwM plug-in to OBIEE. The AwM plug-in generates a UDML file which can be imported into OBIEE using the OBIEE admin tool.
The AwM plug-in to OBIEE generates metadata for the source, business model, and presentation layers. The very latest version of the AwM plug-in will specially
handle calculated measures created in AwM and create the proper calculcated measure expression in OBIEE. This is very important if you are querying above the cube
to get the correct aggregation results. One area that has limited support is if a dimension only has value-based hierarchies. The plug-in will create a very simple level-based
hierarchy to at least allow the dimension to be successfully created. You then need to do more work within the OBIEE administration tool to create the fully baked
value-based hierarchies. I do not have any real-world experience with value-based hierarchies in OBIEE. Again, the AwM plug-in to OBIEE works with level-based hierarchies
and supports multiple hierarchies per dimension. The AwM plug-in to OBIEE is available on the OTN download page for the OLAP option.

Option 2) OBIEE 11.1.1.5 and later allows for native integration for accepting OLAP 11g dimension and cube metadata as a supported source.
This integration makes the AwM plug-in somewhat obsolete (except for the calculated measure expression integration which is unique to the AwM plug-in and using
AwM to create calculated measures including time-based calculated measures)
Please expand on the incompatibility issues you are running into. Is this related to a lot of value-based hierarchies or other issues?

Need to Pass Active Directory Attributes into OBIEE for use in Report Query

Hi,
We're using OBIEE 11.1.1.5 and have integrated it with AD security. Users successfully log into OBIEE and BIP (which is integrated with OBIEE) using their network/AD accounts.
Next step for us is to be able to pass some AD attributes that are on the user accounts into OBIEE and BIP so we can restrict data queries for the person logged in.
I've searched the web and so far have only come up with specific steps for setting this up in BIP. Since BIP is integrated with OBIEE, we have not set any of the MSAD/LDAP security up there - it is all in OBIEE. I have been unable to find the equivalent for adding the attribute names for data query bind variables.
With our current setup, we are unable to filter the report data automatically based on who has logged into the application (analytics and BIP). We have security setup within the catalog so only certain AD groups can access objects, but beyond that we need to be able to secure the data using AD attribute information. For example, all of our users should be able to access an Open Purchase Order report, but they should only be able to see their own purchase orders - not everyone in the company.
Anyway, we're looking to be able to pass AD attributes into OBIEE so that we can use this data in our Analytics and BIP queries.
How can we get this setup?

Connecting SQL Analysis Services 2005 cube with obiee 10g

Hello experts,
I'm trying to link an SQL Analysis Services 2005 cube with obiee 10g.
In Oracle BI Administration, when I choose File -> Import -> From
Multi-dimensional, I have to fill the next gaps:

Before to do that, I need to create the URL path.

But, it hasn't worked because when I was trying to configure the HTTP
access to SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services, we have to perform a test to ensure that it has been well configured. In IIS -> WebSites -> Default WebSites -> olap, we should browse the document called "msmdpump.dll" and this should show an xml document, but it doesn't.

Hi Alex
It sounds like your MS data pump might not be configured correctly. First ensure that is working before trying to put the values into OBIEE. Don't worry about the 500 error - I get that too instead of an XML page.

How to extract Cognos Data into Business Objects?

Hi All,
I would like to know whether anyway to pull Cognos data into Business Objects?
1. Pull data thru Universe from Cognos Cubes?
2. Pull data using Crystal reports from Cognos Cubes?
3. Or any otehr method of pulling data from Cognos Cubes?
If nothing is possible I would have to explore using the RDBMS Tables to build Universe, WebI and then present in Xcelsius. Anybody is aware of getting data from Cognos?

Cognos Reporting on SAP BI data
We need to create a new project to import the structure of the SAP BI cube or Multiprovider.
Enter User ID and password.
Click on OK
It will ask you to enter the User ID and password again. After enter the User ID and password it will ask you to select the language.
Then it will ask you to select the metadata source, select the Data source as shown in below fig. and click next.
Select the data Source as shown in below.
Here we are planning to import SAP BW cube so we have to select SAP BW and click on next.
Select sign on and Click on OK.
Here we have to select our desired cube or multiprovider and click next.
Now we have to select the language again.
Here Cognos is giving the flexibility to use different options when importing cube structures.
Here I am selecting to use the technical name of the objects and to bring same model as it is in SAP BI.
Finally it will show list of all objects which are imported from SAP BI.
When you click on finish it will take to the frame work manager. There you will see the SAP BI Cube Structure.
Now it is exactly imported like SAP BW extended star schema model.
Here you can compare the technical names of the dimensions in both in Cognos and SAP BI is same.

Here I am comparing the values of the info Objects with in one dimension.

If there are any hierarchies in BI, it will form separately as shown in below fig.
When you open the main object of Program definition, we will find 3 objects under this.
It is always recommendable to use Level 01 objects.
This is how it looks when you open all the above 3 objects. You can use any of those depends on your report requirement.
When you open the info object if you see number of different items, that means this info object has got attributes in it.
0COMP_CODE is the technical name of the info object in BI.
In Cognos if it technical name starts with 1  Short Text of the Info Object.
                                                                   2  Key of the Info Object.
                                                                   4  Long Text of the Info Object.
                                                         5  Medium Text of the Info Object.
LELEL00  Is Summarized values.
LEVEL01  Is Item level values of Info Object.
Once you see this in bw/bi environment, i hope you know how to gather and use it in BOBJ environment !!

Essbase dimension cannot loaded into OBIEE admin tools

Hi All,
I have some problem with my OBIEE..
I'm using OBIEE version 10.1.3.3.2 and Essbase version 9.3.1..
In my Essbase's, I've 4 dimensions..
Let say..Dimension A, Dimension B, Dimension C, and Dimension D (as the measure).
I've created a connection in my Admin Tools..but there is some problem here..
Only Dimension D was read at the Admin Tools...
Do anyone have a suggestion to solve this problem..??

This is a known bug and not fixed till 11G of OBIEE so here is a work around!
Please follow these steps to resolve this problem:
1. On Windows machine where OBIEE Administrator is installed go to Start -> Run -> Regedit.
2. Choose File -> Export (save registry file to backup location).
3. Then expand:
\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
4. Look on right side of screen for the parameter named "MaxUserPort" and change the value to 65534.
5. If MaxUserPort is not defined, create a DWORD property under "Parameters" called "MaxUserPort" and set value to 65534.
6. Close registry file (saving changes).
7. restart the machine
8. open their existing rpd - delete the hyperion (essbase cube) from physical/logical/presentation
9. Save
10. Reimport the cube - drag & drop to create the logical model
11. The import should now show all expected dimensions and measures.
So check if Account is imported. (that was the original problem on why we were generating queries using Measures -which does not exist in the cube.)
NOTE:
If you have already tried to import a particular cube and did not get all the expected dimensions,
please drop the existing physical and logical objects related to this cube.
Then do a fresh import of the cube into the repository file.
12 . connect from Answers - check the queries in the log file for any errors returned from Essbase.

dissimilar BI technologies cannot be migrated automatically using any tool. I have done Cognos to OBIEE earlier. Everything is manually done. You will have to build the Rpd based on Framework and Catalog from Cognos BI content store . Cognos cubes cannot be used also, You will have to re-create this cube from Oracle.

Discoverer reports migrated into OBIEE

HI,
One of my client is having some discoverer reports and he wants to migrate it from Discoverer to OBIEE. Can any one give me some info that how to migrate those into OBIEE.
Is that we need to develop a new rpd ?

How to retrieve data from xml file into obiee reports

Hi all,
I've got a situation here. A xml file is stored as blob in oracle database table. Now i need to retrieve data/info from that xml file into obiee reports. How am i supposed to proceed with this ?

In two words, you can create a function that behave as a table. Then you create a function to pick up your xml, you parse it and you send back the rows.
I know that Oracle has also a library for XML files but I never use it until now.

Loading consolodated data from two excel files / cube into one infocube

I am receiving data from two sources:
Source 1:

I want to combinedata from two sources (or cubes) into one cube as follows:

I tried by creating multiple data sources / infosources / transformations / updates rules and also tried with both DSO and cube. But the records are always getting updated as follows:

Hi,
Please use the below approach.
Load the budget data in ODS1.
Load the actual data in ODS2.
Create a ODS3 with same structure as ODS1 with additional key figure for Actuals,which will get data from ODS1. Here add a look up based product and location to populate actuals.
Start Routine
SELECT * FROM ODS2 into ITAB
FOR ALL ENTRIES in SOURCE_PACKAGE.
Transformation Routine:
Read table ITAB into WATAB
with key location = <source_fields>-Location
product = <source_fields>-Product.
If sy-subrc = 0.
RESULT = WATAB-ACTUAL.
ENDIF.

Migrate cognos cubes to essbase

Hi,
Does anyone know the steps to migrate Cognos cubes to Essbase 11? I've no idea where to start from other than doing it manually from scratch, like building the outline & loading data.
Can we export metadata & data from Cognos in a format which can be loaded to Essbase w/o much tedious manual task?
Any suggestions?

How can a security be migrated from cognos to essbase.
Have you used any third party tools for migration.
What is "report matrix " I don't have idea about cognos.
