Intellisense is lazy?

Sql2k8 SSMS intellisense is lazy ot it seems so.
After have created an TSQL object my intellisense does not advert its existence.
Even after refresh at Sql Server database, intellisense does not show me that object.
What am I missing here?
Obviously after stop the Sql Server show it.
It is not useful at all, when you create some object, intellisense must work as Visual Studio intellisense, don't you?
Thanks in advance for any input or thought on that,
Primary platform is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit along with VS 2012/Sql2k8 for WPF/SilverLight projects.

In SSMS, try Edit->Intellisense->Refresh Local Cache.
And, no, intellisense for SQL Server will never work like in Visual Studio. When you work with C#, VB etc in Visual Studio, everything is one process, and VS has full control if you add a new class, new class member or whatever.
But SSMS is a separate process from SQL Server. SSMS can of course read what you submit to the server, but eventually it is dependent on the metadata in SQL Server.

    such as C#, but not C/C++.
    By not working, I mean the intellisense right click menu items are grayed out, and intellisense files are not produced.

    Hi JerroldBrody,
    Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.
    >>I mean the intellisense right click menu items are grayed out, and intellisense files are not produced.
    Based on your issue, could you please share me a screen shot about the intellisense right click menu items are grayed out?
    Generally, I know that it is default that we can enable the intellisense for C/C++ by going to the TOOLS->Options -> Text Editor -> C/C++ ->Advanced-> IntelliSense like the following screen shot.
    So please try to check if you set Disable Intellisense property as False in the VS IDE.

  • SQL Server 2008 Intellisense not working

    I've seen a post about this here: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3371737&SiteID=17
    I've installed SQL Server 2008 and for a few weeks, intellisense was working fine.  The past week, it has stopped working entirely.  I'm running version 10.0.1442.  In Tools-->Options-->Text Editor-->Transact-SQL-->Intellisense, the option to "Enable Intellisense" is turned on.  I've also made sure that SQLCMD Mode is turned off.  I've disconnected a reconnected to my database several times with no luck.  I can try to uninstall and reinstall like the guy in the post I've referenced did, but if I can help to try to find out what's wrong here, I'm willing to wait for a while before doing so.

    Hello to everyone this is my first post and I hope I'm doing right.
    Anyway, I had the same issue with the IntelliSense. I think I messed up installing the Express Edition over SQLServer 2008 R2.
    I'm not an expert, but I think this corrupted my environment.
    This was driving me crazy and even if it's not an essential tool, I was looking for another solution, I didn't want to install again everything.
    So I started to look at the Option window and I played with its settings.
    For the ones who don't know...
    Tool > Options > Text Editor > Transact-SQL > IntelliSense.
    But 'Enable IntelliSense' was ticked, so I unticked and saved.
    I opened the view again and I ticked them again.
    Magically my IntelliSense started again to work fine.
    Hope to be helpful.
    Cheers.

  • VBScript editor with Intellisense/Code Hinting support for Adobe App

    I am looking for some tool to write my InDesign VBScript files in. I would really like to know if there is any which support Intellisense/Code hinting for Adobe programs (InDesign especialy). Do you have anything to recommend?
    I am quite good at hacking my computer, so no registry change etc. is a problem for me, I just can not find any. I already tried PrimalScript 2009 but it doesn not work.
    What I need is that in following block of code
    Set myInDesign = CreateObject("InDesign.Application.CS4")
    Set myDialog = myInDesign.Dialogs.Add
    I will get list of all methods/properties after I write the dot after "myInDesign" in second line. But it never worked. I even tried to put "InDesign.Application.CS4/C:\ProgramData\Adobe\InDesign\Version 6.0\cs_CZ\Scripting Support\6.0\Resources for Visual Basic.tlb" line into Options>Text editor>Type libraries.
    I am using Windows Vista SP1 and I have Adobe Creative Suite CS4 installed (upgrade from CS3 which was upgraded from CS2)
    Thanks a lot for any help/suggestion, as I start feeling desperate.

    Hi Everyone!
    As I have said, I waited for next service release, which is as of now PrimalScript 2009 version 5.0.614 and I did some testing with it.
    Results:
    WinXP EN Professional
    - Just pointing PrimalScript 2009 to typelib, no creative suite installed, working
    - Installed Creative Suite CS3 Czech (trial mode) - Working, no need to setup anything
    - Installed Creative Suite CS3 + CS4 Czech (trial mode) - Need to point PrimalScript 2009 to correct typelib, then 100% working
    Windows Vista SP1 Ultimate EN (in trial/not activated mode)
    - Just pointing PrimalScript 2009 to typelib, no creative suite installed, working
    - Installed Creative Suite CS3 Czech (trial mode) - Need to point PrimalScript 2009 to correct typelib, then 100% working
    - Installed Creative Suite CS3 + CS4 Czech (trial mode) - Need to point PrimalScript 2009 to correct typelib, then 100% working
    Windows 7
    I am not planning to use Win7 in near future, so I did not not run any test on it.
    Windows Vista SP1 Home Premium Slovak (fully activated)
    - Installed Creative Suite CS3 + CS4 Czech (full mode) - Not working. This is my main machine. It is Creative Suite CS2 upgraded to CS3 then CS4 (it is running for years without reinstall). I use CS3/CS4 side by side for some older projects. There are still references to CS2 in registry. I tried pointing PrimalScript 2009 to correct typelib, but to no avail. My conclussion is that there is someting messed with its config or registry, but I am pretty sure it would run after complete system reinstall.
    Both WinXP EN Pro and Vista SP1 Ultimate EN were clean install into MS Virtual PC 2007, with only Creative Suite and PrimalScript 2009 5.0.614 installed into each machine so I made sure there are no other issues involved.
    As I spend 80% of my time with developement of websites and scripting of MS Office/Creative Suite, I have some virtual machines set up for testing purposes. I will use one of them for development in PrimalScript and move it to main (real) Windows Vista Home Premium Slovak installed once I will decide to completely reinstall it. The need for seting up the typelibray link is no deal for me, as it is working as expected then, and I expect a lot ;-)
    So problem solved, I found o program I will use. There may be others which do better or are cheaper (but I do not know about any) but $299 is not a big issue when I get what I want.
    P.S.: The solution with making VBScript code with VBA declaration (using Dim) is not a solution I like, as I would need to comment it out everytime I run/edit  the script and it would be pain in the *** while debugging it as i would need to do lot of comment/uncomment cycles and i can use my ime better then doing the monkey work as some fo the scripts I write are quite huge and I prefer to build them incrementaly and test/debug a lot.
    I wish to thank everyone for their help and suggestions,

  • 2012 SQL Server Management Studio Intellisense Not Working

    Hi,
    I have read just about every article and checked many options with SSMS and the Server.  The server is MS SQL SERVER 2012 SP1 Version 11.0.3339.0 X64.   SMSS is 11.0.2100.60.
    I have refreshed the intellisense cache, made sure I wasn't in the SQLCommand Mode and that I had intellisense enabled under the Tools Options and Text_editor.
    Intellsense worked great for me when I was running 2008 R2....now nothing, feeling frustrated.   Any new ideas on how to get intellisense back in line would certainly be appreciated.

    We were having problems also with intellisense, as it completely stopped working on a SQL Server 2012 instance that was hosting over 100 client databases in a non-transactional development only environment.  We tried everything and nothing seemed to
    work until I ran an optimize routine that included running DBCC DBReindex, sp_updateStats, and sp_Recompile.  This seemed to clean up what ever was blocking intellisense.  Now it is working with no problem.  I added a SQL Agent job that runs
    once a week to perform this optimization.  We have not had a problem with intellisense since.
    begin
        select identity(int,1,1) as [ID], sd.name as [DBName] into #Databases from master.sys.databases sd where sd.name not in ('master', 'tempdb', 'model', 'msdb')
        declare @DB varchar(128)
                , @SQL varchar(max)
                , @MinID int
                , @MaxID int
        select @MinID = min(id), @MaxID = max(id) from #Databases
        while @MinID <= @MaxID
        begin
            select @DB = DBName from #Databases where ID = @MinID
            print '*** Processing: ' + @DB + ' *****************************************************************************************************'
            set @SQL = @DB + '.sys.sp_MSforeachtable @command1="print ''?'' dbcc dbreindex (''?'', '' '', 80)"'
            exec (@SQL)
            set @SQL = @DB + '.sys.sp_updatestats'
            exec (@SQL)
            set @SQL = @DB + '.sys.sp_MSforeachtable @command1="exec sp_recompile ''?''";'
            exec (@SQL)
            set @MinID = @MinID + 1 --increment
        end
        drop table #Databases

  • VS2012 SSRS Project - Intellisense problem while editing dataset

    Environment: VS2012 with SSDT, Reporting Services project
    When editing the dataset query (which is T-SQL code) of any report and I try to type
    table.field, when I reach the period (.) character Intellisense pops up with Equals & ReferenceEquals, and interferes with completing the
    table.field statement.
    This is while editing in: Datasets>Mydataset>Dataset Properties>Query>Expression
    Its extremely annoying and unnecessary to have to correct the unhelpful and ignorant autocomplete of Intellisense.
    Turning off Intellisense in Tools>Options>Text Editor>SQL Server Tools>Intellisense has no effect.
    Is there a way to:
    1)  Inform Intellisense to NOT try to insert non-SQL code, or
    2) Turn off Intellisense in the Expression window?

    Hi TG99,
    In Reporting Services, when we type a dot behind alphabets or square brackets in Expression dialog box, it automatically pops up a list begin with “Equals”. This is by design.
    To work around this issue, we can directly write T-SQL query commands in Query pane or Query Designer pane of Dataset Properties dialog box. In this way, it wouldn’t pops up any character for auto IntelliSense.

  • No JavaScript Intellisense in Visual Studio Express 12 For Windows Phone

    I'm developing mobile app for windows phone using Windows phone 8 SDK (Visual Studio Express 12 For Windows Phone). I want to use code auto-Complete facilities when coding in Javascript. For that I need to use Intellisense for JS.
    According to my knowledge, To configure Intellisense according to my knowledge,It have navigate to the [Tools] > [Options] > Text Editor > JavaScript > IntelliSense >
    But in my [Tools] > [Options] > Text Editor > list there is No item called JavaScript.
    Please help me for solve this.

    Hi AmilaEranga,
    I try to test it in my side, I could get the JavaScript Text Editor in my side.
    So I doubt that it would be your VS IDE issue. If possible, please download it from the official site here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30664
    And then repair your VS, test it again.
    Or you could run the following command lines with the Developer Command Prompt of VS2012:
    devenv /setup
    devenv.exe /InstallVSTemplates

  • Intellisense Stopped Working

    A day or two ago, IntelliSense stopped working on my computer. Specifically, it doesn't capitalize built-in function names and it doesn't list the available tables in the same way. I am using MS SQL Server Management Studio 2008 R2. I've tried
    the following fixes:
    In Tools > Options > Text Editor > Transact-SQL > IntellisSense, every box has a check in it and "Casing for built-in function names" says "Upper case".
    IntelliSense is enabled (Query > IntelliSense enabled).
    I ran Edit > IntelliSense > Refresh local cache several times.
    Can anyone help me? Thanks!

    What could be causing the errors above?

    Hi aivoryuk,
    According to your description, you get the lazy writing error when processing partitions. Right?
    In this scenario, the issue may cause by low memory for SSAS and lack of disk space. Please consider configure
    Server Properties (Memory Page) and increase
    memory setting for SSAS. If the .cub file is located in C drive, please reserve more disk space.

  • Intellisense for report parameter where value comes from a query

    I've got a report that pulls print information for a table.
    We want to add a parameter to select the userID.  I got a query  for each distinct individual but there are over 3500.
    Is there a way to use intellisense to get the parameter with out scrolling through all 3500 users?
    The more you type the shorter your choices get?

    You can create through the Visual Studio using the ReportViewer component. You should create the custom filters (AJAX AutoComplete) and through them, pass the values to the ReportViewer using the code C# for example. The code below illustrate a connection
    with Report published in Reporting Services Portal.
    string report = "ReportName";
    string user = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("ServerReportUser").ToString();
    string password = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("ServerReportPassword").ToString();
    string domain = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("ServerReportDomain").ToString();
    IReportServerConnection connection = new Geicom.ReportServerConnection.ReportServerConnection(user, password, domain);
    ReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportServerCredentials = connection;
    ReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = new Uri(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("ReportServerUrl").ToString());
    ReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportPath = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("ReportPathRelative") + report;
    ReportViewer.LocalReport.ReportPath = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("ReportPathRelative") + report;
    ReportViewer.ShowPrintButton = True;
    ReportViewer.ShowPromptAreaButton = True;
    ReportViewer.ShowRefreshButton = True;
    ReportViewer.ShowToolBar = True;
    ReportViewer.ShowBackButton = True;
    ReportViewer.ShowPageNavigationControls = True;
    ReportViewer.ProcessingMode = Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ProcessingMode.Remote;List<ReportParameter> paramList = new List<ReportParameter>();paramList.Add(new ReportParameter("Parameter1", Parameter1Value.ToString(), false));

  • How can I tell if my disks are EagerZero or Lazy Zero?

    I have an Esxi 5.1 environment with 4 or 5 server VMs
    Three of the servers are showing that the disk provisioning type was 'Thick Provisioned Lazy Zeroed'
    As an example for one disk for a Windows 2008 Server, In Browse Datastore I am seeing...
    size =  102,400.00KB
    Provisioned size =  104,857,600.00KB
    This looks like it might be around 1/10th of the size it should be as a Thick provisioned disk file.
    In the datastore browser I can right click and select inflate but it says 'Disk is not thin-provisioned'
    I used PuTTy and issued the following command on the disk...
    vmkfstools --eagerzero /vmfs/volumes/DatastoreName/MyVMName/MyVMName.vmdk
    and this ran through right to 100%
    However, I am still seeing the parameters set out in paragraph one above - 'Thick Lazy' and the same size/provisioned size values.
    Does anyone know how I can tell if the disk really is still Lazy or has it changed to Eager and just not being reported properly.
    Many thanks in advance
    PS - the reason I am changing to Eager is that I am told it will give slightly better performance on a server.  There are two servers I would like to change when I got to the bottom of this issue - one an SQL server and one a dataserver with lots of files being stored regularly on there.

    Thanks for the reply.
    In the VMWare vSphere client>>VM>>Edit settings >> it says 'Thick Provisioned Lazy Zeroed'
    I ran the 'eagerzero' command from within vmkfstools and it said it converted 100%
    The screen show below from the Datastore Browser shows the hard disk is 100Gb yet it seems to suggest that it only takes up 100Mb.  I thought that any of the Thick disk options would show a disk of 100Gb which just adds to my confusion on this subject.

  • SQL Server 2012 Management Studio Displays Error With "New Query" and Intellisense Works Intermittenly

    I was upgrade to SQL Server 2012 and Visual Studio 2010 was upgraded with SP1 the same day.  This is x64 machine.
    Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio      11.0.2100.60
    Microsoft .NET Framework      4.0.30319.261
    Operating System      6.1.7601
    Problem 1) With SQL Server Management Studio, selecting "New Query" a warning box is displayed: "The 'Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Configuration.Design.VisualStudioIntegration2010Package, Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Configuration.Design.VisualStudioIntegration2010,
    Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=netutral, PublicKeyToken=null' package did not load correctly.    The problem mayhave been cuased by a configuration change or by the installation of another extension.  You can get more information by running the
    application together with the /log parameter on the command line, and then examining the file ...\AppDate\Roaming\Microsoft\AppEnv\10.0\ActivityLog.xml'.  Continue to show this error message?
    Problem 2) In a Query Initellisense works intermittently but most of the time it will not display anything.  I have tried Edit|Intellisense|Refresh Cach size and also seperately, Edit | Intellisense | List Members but neither has helped.  Also
    tried different selections for Tools|options| T-SQL | Intellisense| Maximum Script Size; no luck either.

    Hi WallyJim,
    For your first problem, possible workaround:
    In Programs and Features (or Add/Remove Programs), right click the Microsoft Enterprise Library 5.0 Optional Update 1 program and select change. Remove the VisualStudio2010 integration.
    Then, install the EnterpriseLibrary Configuration extension from Microsoft via the Extension Manager in VS2010. This will allow you to launch the configuration editor from VS2010, but will not be installed for SSMS.
    For more information, please refer to
    https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/620532/error-message-on-new-query-window-opening.
    For your second problem, the following conditions might affect the behavior of IntelliSense:
    There is a code error above the cursor.
    The insertion point is inside a code comment.
    The insertion point is inside a string literal.
    The automatic options are turned off.
    For more information, refer to Troubleshooting IntelliSense (SQL Server Management Studio):

  • How do I keep the IntelliSense cached onto my hard drive, so that whenever I restart Visual Studio, it doesn't need to re-build IntelliSense from scratch?

    Opening a project solution means that I start from where I last left off. If IntelliSense is able to keep its database files, then whenever I call on IntelliSense, it can just go and fetch whatever I typed as any normal operating IntelliSense would do.
    I was just wondering if there is a way to preserve already-built IntelliSense database, so that when I open my Visual Studio project, it doesn't need to generate the IntelliSense database files and I can just call IntelliSense without needing to worry about
    waiting for it to finish generating necessary files.

    No, I do not mean IntelliSense code snippets. What I mean is the PDB database the IntelliSense generates when scanning through codes that the project has. I need to mention beforehand that I have honestly no idea if the PDB file IntelliSense generates is
    related to this.
    This is what I mean:
    What IntelliSense does is it caches all available C++ functions it gathered from the project, and then store them into some database file (which I call it PDB, because it sounds like it's a database file containing all of this auto-completion information),
    so that whenever I call on IntelliSense for auto-completion, it pops up this widget showing all of this for me.
    I wanted to be able to store this generated file permanently, so it doesn't get called over so many times.
    I understand that there is an option to disable auto-updating in the Options > Programming Languages > C++ > Advanced > IntelliSense category. I have that ticked off already, but IntelliSense still generates over and over again each time
    I do a build.
    It makes sense to generate a new PDB for new/removed codes I did in the project, and I can agree, but it
    doesn't make sense to have that same PDB file be generated again and again when all I am doing is just building the same code, without modifying the source code at all, like pressing multiple CTRL+SHIFT+B and closing the program over
    and over again. That behavior is what I would call the PDB file a "cached" file. And I want to keep it when I am building, so that IntelliSense doesn't have to rebuild all the time after I finished a build/compile session and I have to wait a long
    while for me to see what functions I need to use in the project.
    Or maybe there could be a "Search function in IntelliSense context menu...", but I digress.

  • SQL Sever Management Studio intellisense issue in SQL Server 2008 R2 and in SQL Sever 2012

    Hi Team,
    Intellisense in sql server management studio is working fine when i am accessing the databases in my  local server.
    But Intellisense is not working when ever i am trying to connect to the remote servers with the client
    I tried different blogs and i tried to configure all the options i have upgraded to some patches upgraded for sql 2008 r2 client to sql 2012 client.
    But Intellisense is not working with the remote server databases in the sql management studio .
    Intellisense is working in the server but the same is not working when we are trying to access with client from our local machines.
    Please provide me help to fix this issue
    Regards
    Karthik Kattamudi

    Did you try to refresh the cache by hitting CTRL+SHIFT+R?
    Also, these remote servers, are they SQL Server 2008 R2 as well or different version?
    Please mark the answer as helpful if i have answered your query. Thanks and Regards, Kartar Rana
