Interaction Between Initial View Magnification & Bookmark Destination

I'm using Adobe Acrobat X.
I understand that setting the destination of a bookmark also establishes the view magnification. Apparently, this is always the case, and that doesn't seem right to me.
Suppose all I want is for each bookmark to take the reader to a particular page, and I don't want the view magnification to be any different from the magnification that the reader is currently using. For example, suppose I've set Initial View, Magnification to Default when creating the PDF. How do I make sure the reader isn't going to get confronted with a different view magnification upon clicking on a bookmark and being taken to the page?

Here are four screenshots showing what Bookmark Properties shows:

  • Is there a way to set the default Initial View to Bookmarks Panel and Page on word documents that I save as PDF?

When I save my word 2013 documents as Adobe PDF I have to open the PDF up, go to File>Properties>Initial View>Navigation Tab and then set the initial view as Bookmark Panel and Page; it gets pretty tedious.
I use Save as Adobe PDF rather than Print to Adobe PDF Printer because I like being able to have the security settings automatically set.
I just want to be able to save my word document as Adobe PDF with the initial view already set as Bookmark Panel and Page, and with security, so I can send it out immediately.
    Is this possible?
    Thank you.

  • Controlling the page view between initial view, bookmarks and links

I have a 300 page InDesign document with links, buttons and bookmarks. The client wants it to open at an initial view of 50%. All of the other navigation is set to Inherent Zoom. This works well except the bookmarks which automatically switch to fit in window. (The bookmarks were made in InDesign). This happen whether they are used from the nav buttons (set as anchors) or using the side panel bookmarks for navigation.
If I go back and try to reset the view in bookmark properties in Acrobat it seems to add the 2 magnifications together.
Is there a way to set the bookmark to be at 50%? I tried going back to InDesign to set the bookmark when the magnification is at at certain % but that didn't seem to work either.
    thanks!

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

I assume that you were referring to setting browser.tabs.onTop pref to false on the about:config page.
Current Firefox versions only show the "Tabs on Top" menu entry in the "View > Toolbars" and "Firefox > Options" menu and in toolbar context menus if the tabs aren't in the default position on top.

  • Set default Initial View to Bookmarks Panel and Page on all new docs

    Hello Acrobat Experts,
We convert *many* Word docs to PDF.  We have PDFMaker force security on all docs.  Now every document has the security settings we want.
    That works.
We want to force the default Initial View to be Bookmarks Panel and Page so that *every* new document shows the Bookmark Panel and the Page.
We don't want to set this per document (which is a multi-setp process and a hassle, especially now that security is enabled) but globally for all new documents created by Adobe Acrobat.
Any and all advice is most welcome.
    Thank you in advance.

    Acrobat Professional 8.1.7
Windows Xp Professional (all current updates)

The article I pointed to in my Oct 20, 2009 post #3 contains two pointers that might assist to initially open the PDF fitting the page to the window.
    I think you may be after "Vire [/Fit]" as described in the article;
    [ /PageMode /UseOutlines
    /Page 1 /View [/Fit ]
    /DOCVIEW pdfmark
These lines of code open your PDF document with the bookmarks panel open. If you just want the document on its own try "UseNone" instead of "UseOutlines". Here are some additional values:
/Page 1 opens the PDF on page 1
View [/Fit ] opens the PDF Fit to page
And the article points to the PDFMark reference where you might look at Actions and Destinations on page 47.
I've not tried to do this myself so would you be kind enough to post your result and let us know the version of Acrobat you're using?

  • BSP(htmlb) - spinning wheel interact between two views,

    hi all,
if i click button in first view it will opens second view . The second view contains some more data's so it takes too much time to dispaly datas, in mean time i want to give spinning wheel or some process bar in between two views, how can i give,
    Thanks & Regards
    Bala.E

    Hi Bala
We can achive this by 2 ways.
One way you can check the standard example "HTMLB_samples".
In the example HTMLB_samples i can explain what is happeing taking the example of page
    a) breadcrumb.htm and
    b) breadcrumbSample.htm.
Here when we click the link in the left(Samplelist.htm) page, the page Defaultright.htm will be rendered.
    The defaultright.htm is calling breadcrumb.htm and load.htm.
The breadcrumb.htm in turn is calling the page breadcrumpSample.htm(Before it is calling the load.htm page is shown in mean time). For this to happen below code is kept in breadcrumb.htm page.
    <htmlb:form method = "post"
    action = "breadcrumbSample.htm"
    target = "coding" >
This is how the loading icon is comming.
    Other Way of doing is.
From the first page navigate it to a intermediate page which has the loading icon. From this intermediate page you can navigate it to the Second page which you want it.
    Thanks

  • 9.1 Pro Update Busted Initial View Magnification

I've just tonight updated to 9.1, and now I cannot set my PDF initial view settings to "actual size" or "100%". Well, I CAN set it, but the setting doesn't hold after saving, closing and reopening the file. The file opens at 100% in Reader 8 (haven't tried other versions), but in Pro it fits, or scales rather, "visible" (to my humongous window).
I always do this for my PDFs so people don't misjudge scale or final size (well, too much anyway). And it worked just last night perfectly before the update. Rats.
I dunno about the rest of you, but I think a PDF should always open at 100%. Maybe that's just me.
    Any ideas?

Ah, the update reset my custom page display resolution preferences! Problem solved.

  • PDF Initial Browser doesn't open PDF with Bookmarks as initial view - Problem (Help)

I've saved a PDF with Initial view of Bookmarks panel and
page opn my client and it opens with the bookmarks. I publish the
file from my PC via Contribute and open it with my browser and it
opens in the pages view. NOTE: when i open the PDF in Contribute,
it opens with no special view.....

    Hey Jacksoup --
I don't believe this is a "Contribute" issue at all.  I'm having the same problem with a .PDF of my own that I've published to the Web and I'm not using that software.
I had one original .pdf file that had no bookmarks.  Bookmarks were then added to the doc and resaved.  On the new version I have the document's file properties set to open bookmarks on initial view.  The document opens fine locally on my computer, but when I publish to the web (not using contribute), and then try to open the .pdf via hyperlink it opens in MSIE and the bookmarks do not appear on initial view.  It's driving me crazy.
I'm wondering if this is some sort of adobe cache issue?  Where it's opening the document like the original?  Or if it's something to do with MSIE?  I have already cleared my browser cache and I also updated my adobe acrobat preferences to NOT restore last view settings when opening documents.
I have tried adding #pagemode=Bookmarks to the end of the URL to the doc...
Everything I've read and researched on line tells me I have done all I can do.  Are we just $#!+ out of luck here or what's the deal Adobe?
    Thank you for your time!

  • Batch create multiple pdf's while using epilogue.ps for setting initial view and opening bookmarks

    Hi,
I'm trying to batch create multiple pdf's from word files, and use the epilogue.ps file for setting the initial view and opening the bookmarks panel, but i keep getting no satisfying result.. i'm probably missing something fundamental.
I've read some forum posts and adobe help posts explaining this, so i'm pretty sure this would be possible?
    Reference:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/X/pro/using/WS58a04a822e3e50102bd615109794195ff-7f0f.w .html  see advanced panel options
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/using/WS58a04a822e3e50102bd615109794195ff-7f14.w.html
    System: Windows 7
    Acrobat: Acrobat X professional
i've searched for and found a way to overwite the epilogue.ps file and have inserted the following:
%  Insert your custom PostScript here...
    [ /PageMode /UseThumbs
    /Page 1 /View [/Fit ]
    /DOCVIEW pdfmark
After that i checked my Adobe Acrobat preferences, and in the categorie 'Convert to Pdf' i selected 'Microsoft office word' in the select area 'Converting to pdf'.
Clicked 'Edit settings' to allow creating a joboptions file (field: 'adobe pdf settings') which has the option 'Use epiloque.ps and prologue.ps' checked in the advanced section.
So now i thought i would have everyting setup to create my pdf's, however, my view isn't changed to fit, nor are there any bookmarks or in this case thumbs (i used /useThumbs) visible.
Did i miss something obvious? Is there a better way to test this? Any help would be appreciated!

Using Acrobat 7.0.9, the following VB code generates PDF 1.6:

    bRet = AcroDoc.Open(pdfDocName)
    bRet = AcroDoc.SetPageMode(PDViewMode.PDUseBookmarks)
    bRet = AcroDoc.Save(PDSaveLinearized + PDSaveFull, pdfDocName)

  • In Initial View, can you set defaults for Navigation tab, Page layout, and Magnification?

    Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro V9.4.0
    Win7 Pro x64
Problem: In Initial View, can you set defaults for Navigation tab, Page layout, and Magnification?
Every time Acrobat scans a document, I have to go to Initial View to set Navigation tab, Page layout, and Magnification. It does not remember the settings I last used.
    Thanks in advance.

  • How to convert initial view (bookmarks expanded) in over 1000 pfd files?

Could anybody please assist with how to complete a blanket change to over 1000 PDF files? I would like to change the security of the initial view so that the file opens with the bookmark tab already expanded. I am able to do this to each file individually but no more than one at a time. Any suggestions out there? Check out the attachment if clarity needed. Thanks ahead of time.

The selections are under the document properties (ctrl-D) as to how the document opens, at least that is what I think you are asking.

  • How to load bookmark tree in initial view setting by pdfmark reference

how to load bookmark tree in initial view setting by pdfmark reference

You are talking about two different completely unrelated things here: The
initial view (which can be modified in an epilogue.ps file) and the actual
bookmark setup (which is done in the PostScript file, and not in the
epilogue file). You can change which navigation pane gets displayed
when the PDF file is opened, but only the application that creates the
bookmarks as access to he setting that defines if the bookmark is expanded
    or not.
By the time the epilogue file runs, you don't "know" which bookmarks were
created. You can know that if you redefine the pdfmark command in
PostScript, and then modify the parameters that are passed to the real
    pdfmark operator.
Another option would be to add JavaScript that controls the state of your
bookmarks that gets executed the first time the document is opened. This
will however only work in Adobe Acrobat, not the free Reader (the open
    property is read-only in Reader).
The simplest way to get your bookmarks in the correct state, is to create
your PDF files and then run an action on them to expand the bookmark tree.

  • Initial View + Viewing Through the Plugin is Inconsistent

We have a set of PDF's that are all set with an initial magnification of 'Fit to Page / Single Page'.
When browsing between documents in firefox + acroread plugin via links/bookmarks embedded within, the plugin will ocassionally change to an initial magnification of '125%'.  It does seem like it's more likely to happen if you use the bookmarks the swap between documents as opposed to links in the document text.  We've also tried setting the the initial view in the reader's preferences, however this seems to have little/no effect.  We can't seem to reproduce this if we read the pdf in an actual acroread instance, as opposed to the plugin.
We have tried various versions of Adobe in the production of the pdf's to verify it doesn't have anything to do with what is produced.  We have yet to try Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.1 to see if this has been corrected in later versions.

    Hi JasonMock,
Fit Page layout adjusts the magnification level so that one page fills the document pane vertically. Therefore, the magnification level can be any value depending on a number of factors like the browser window size, any navigation panel is opened/closed etc. At any moment, Reader will try to fit the page in the document pane. So if PDFs are to be opened at a particular zoom level then try setting that magnification level (say 100%) in the File > Document Properties>Initial View settings from Acrobat.
You can also try changing the size of the standalone acroread window to see the change in the magnification value in the Fit Page layout.
    Thanks,
    Swati

  • How can I interact between two different frames in the same indesign template as well as from one template to another.

I am looking for the best way (or any way) to interact between two different frames in the same indesign template as well as from one template to another. It's for a DPS app which needs to carry some button initiated data from one page to another and then present it in a table.

There is no simple way to do it, as itunes wont let you use it on another computer without wiping the contents first.
    However if you really want to transfer songs to another computer then you could try this;
    * make sure that your ipod is accessible as a disk drive (ipod options)
    * when you plug your ipod into the computer you want to transfer to make sure you select "no" or "cancel" when it asks to wipe the contents. Leave the ipod connected and quit from itunes.
    * go to "my computer" and access the ipod directly. You probably have to select "view hidden files" from windows. You will see a lot of folders with odd names like ZX838aff with similar named files inside.
    * copy these files to a folder on your computers hardrive. Now remove the ipod and start itunes.
    * import the files from the folder you made in the last step.
    * Now your music is on itunes, but with unrecogisable names.
This is the only way I have found to do it, but there may be another way, say with an application to do the hard work for you.

  • Setting Initial View of .PDF when exporting from ID

    Hi,
I use 5.0.1 and upgrading is not an option due to the IT department - don't get me started!
I have created a document in ID with Bookmarks to aid navigation when its converted to a PDF.
In Acrobat 8.0 there is a feature to set the initial view to open the pdf with the bookmarks tab showing - Document Settings > Initial View > Layout & Magnification > Bookmarks Panel & Page.
Is it possible to set this attribute in ID without having to use Acrobat after creating the pdf? i.e when I export the ID file to pdf it is effectivly fire and forget.
    Thanks in advance all...

No need to apologize - I'm a rookie when it comes to IS detail.
I use Acrobat Standard 8.1 when setting the initial view and IE 7. There are no security settings set.
I'm posting the documents on a web site and others that open to view are most likely using Acrobat Reader.
Not certain what I should try next. I appreciate your help.
