Interactive site using variables?

Hi,
I am working on an interactive mini-site and I am having some problems with the functionality. I am trying to get it so that when a "branch" is open and another "branch" is clicked, it will then close the previous "branch". This seems to be a job for variables but I am novice at this level of interaction. Any advice on how to approach this?

The standard search bar on interactive reports allows free-form values to be typed in for filtering, against the entire row, or against one specific column at the users' option. But perhaps I've misunderstood you. You certainly can refer to page items in the Interactive Report's source definition if you wanted to "filter" with a where clause before page rendering.
Perhaps you could describe an example situation in further detail.

How Can I Use Variables to Score Interactions?

I've created a course. Each slide as a question/scenario and three buttons. Two wrong answers and one right. When you choose any of the buttons you get a feedback box that explains why you were right or wrong. These are not quiz slides, but I would like to use variables to score the slides if I could.
My idea was to create a variable and call it congrats. The variable as a sum of zero. Is it possible for me to add a numerical value to that variable each time a person chooses one of the buttons?
For example:
I wanted to add 10 to the variable if you choose the right answer. I wanted to give the incorrect answers a value of -5. In other words. You could either end up with 10 points on a slide if you choose the correct answer or 0 points if you choose the 2 incorrect answers and the correct answer, or 5 points if you choose a incorrect and correct answer.
At the end, I would like you come to a slide. this slide will be based on the value of that variable at the end. Either you have a 100 or lower depending on how you did.
I hope this isn't too confusing.

You forgot one important detail: has the score to be transmitted to a LMS or is it only meant to be shown in the Captivate file?
And which version are you using? The easiest way to achieve this is to use the partial scoring (and penalty) that is already available for MCQ slides with multiple correct answers.

Getting general error when saving site using "create PDF from"

I'm using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0.0 for Mac, trying to save websites. This started working fine, but I had to shut down in the middle of a site being saved. Now when I try to save a site using Web Capture/create PDF from I get a "general error, nothing was saved". What do I need to do, remove, replace, reinstall or whatever to get this feature working again?
Also can anyone tell me how to set the feature that saves web pages with the headers and footers showing date, time, URL, page title, etc. I often use the print feature (save to PDF) and up until a day or so ago it always saved with those headers and footers. Now they're missing, which is what prompted me to try saving entire sites, above. I remember setting these a long time ago and being able to choose what went on the left, right,header and footer, but I cannot find those settings now.

Well, after downloading Applejack, I am completely confused. I'm not sure I understand what will happen if I do any of these steps: see 3a.. "clean out all cache files including the Launch Services database and any cached User Pictures". What kinds of things will I lose? Can I choose only the Acrobat cache files? I don't want to have to spend hours or days resetting things as I'm in the middle of a project with a close deadline. I also don't really understand fully what will happen with all the other things they discuss. The instructions say (I just copied and pasted these):
3. Auto mode: You can let the script run through its tasks automatically by typing 'applejack auto'. If you want the machine to automatically restart at the end of its tasks, use 'applejack auto restart'. You can also tell the computer to shut down automatically at the end by using the command line 'applejack auto shutdown'.
3a. Deep Auto mode: If you want to let AppleJack clean out all cache files, including the Launch Services database and any cached User Pictures, use 'applejack AUTO' instead. Use this if you still have problems booting after running AppleJack already.
4. Interactive mode: To run through just one task, or to run the script manually, type 'applejack' and then choose tasks from the menu. Running the script in interactive mode has the benefit of giving you options for working with user level cache and preference files, not just the default system level caches and preferences. To select an option, type the highlighted number or letter associated with the action, and then hit return. Whenever you enter a choice in AppleJack, you will need to hit return for that choice to take effect.
4. Corrupted preference files are moved into a directory that will mirror the original preference directory, with (Corrupt) added to the directory name. For example, corrupt preferences files found in ~/Library/Preferences will be moved to ~/Library/Preferences (Corrupt). After running AppleJack, you'll probably want to take a look at them (and most likely throw out those folders). As of version 1.4.2, AppleJack now creates a copy of the directory tree inside the (Corrupt) folder so that if any files were deeply nested inside the original preference folder, they will be placed in an identical directory hierarchy in the new (Corrupt) folder. This way, if for any reason you would want to move a preference file back, you know where it should go.
6. AppleJack has a primitive logging mechanism. It writes a journal of most of its activity to /var/log/AppleJack.log. AppleJack will automatically reset the log the next time you run it, if the file should ever reach a size somewhat over 500k.

Using Variables in Multiple slides

I am using a text entry box to record information.
I want the user to repeat that information in a future slide to get a match. I have created the action script for that.
On the second slide however, I would like the user to be able to view what they typed in the first tex entry box without returning to that slide. Like a hint.
Is their way to do that?

Perhaps you know that each TEB has an associated variable (better give it a more signicant name than the default one). I could offer you a workaround to show the value of this variable, but think that the most simple solution is to get a copy of the enhanced TEB, a widget created by Jim Leichliter, AKA CaptivatePro. Missing code in "Offline Interactive Forms Using ABAP" SDN document?

I am trying to build a sample offline form scenario using the code published in the SDN document "Offline Interactive Forms Using ABAP" written by Vani Krishnamoorthy. Everything works perfectly up to the point where we instantiate the PDF Object to extract the data from the form. Then there seems to be some code missing just before we call the method SET_DOCUMENT. We are supposed to export the parameter pdfdata = pdf_data , but I cannot find where pdf_data variable is declared or assigned. Also, an ENDTRY statement seems to be missing.
Has anyone had success with Vani's offline scenario, and if so, do you know what code is missing, if any?

I found the missing code in sample program FP_PDF_TEST_06. Everything works well now.

Create offline interactive forms using webdynpro java with XML data source

Hi Gurus,
I am having a scenario like below:
Sales guy request for order list online from portal- Sytem receives the request and creat XML file- from xml file need to create a Offline interactive form-Sales guy fills it offline at customer site- uploads in portal -on submit xml has to be generated with captured data at customer site-Process to ECC.
So my questions are:
How to create the offline interactive form from XML?
Once filled offline interactive form uploaded into portal how to create XML again from pdf ?
Please give some idea on this as this is my first Offline interactive form using XML datasource.

Sorry for replying lately. First of all I did not get your suggestions as your are editing the same posting.
Secondly we will be using WDJ. Actually in between SAP Portal and ECC we are having adobe LCES so we need to create Interactive form using XML only. Once it is filled again the form will be submitted to another application which is running on FLEX, which will process the order.

Captivate 4, interaction SWF using XML and the Reviewer tool Problem

Hello everyone!
I am an advanced AS3er and am only months old working with Captivate 4. I've found some cool ways to use Captivate and incorporating swfs that use CSS and XML for their dynamic content builder and interactivity as well. However, I've run into a problem:
The Reviewer tool will NOT display my swf interactions that use XML, however when published as a course, I can see them perfectly fine (once I move over my css and xml folders after publishing)
Has anyone found a work around for this problem?

Not sure if you want to control the audio used in Captivate of if you want to control you own audio form files loaded externally. If you try to control the audio associated with captivate, believe me it will be a mess. I tried it once and hit so many hurdles that I gave up. The Captivate framework is not meant at all for extending and adding functionality. I had to to create proxy classes that allowed me to gain access to internal variable but even then my control over audio streams was incomplete. Captivate completely lacks an eventing framework!
On an other subject, can you tell me how you got the swf to use the CSS and XML files? Do you have to manually copy them to a folder? Which folder?

Using variables for answers to fill-in-the-blank questions

For fill-in-the-blank questions, one has to provide answers. I want to provide these in the form of (user-created) variables, rather than in the form of fixed strings of characters (so then, as $$var1$$ rather than as 'rabbit'). I haven't been able to get this to work. The enter variable function is indeed available (in the properties panel), but it doesn't actually work (i.e. even if you select a variable to be entered, it doesn't actually get entered).
Is there a way around the problem?
1. NB that this same issue holds for text entry boxes (rather than fill-in-the-blank questions). If I could get this to work for text entry boxes, I would use them rather than fill-in-the-blank questions.
2. One can use variables for answers to multiple choice questions. So I'm hoping I can get it to work for fill-in-the-blank questions as well.

That would have been my suggestion. I don't have a dedicated blog post, but use TEB's for that kind of questions myself as well. And contrary to the widget/interaction I mentioned before, a TEB is an interactive object, which means it can be validated and there can be a score attached to it. But, it will not help you, since you have to add the correct answers in the same way as for a dropdown list in the FIB question (they are sort of TEB's there). And it is that list that doesn't allow to enter a variable instead of a fixed sequence of characters.
Which means that you are back to the advanced actions, same as in my blog posts with the widget/interaction.
Have a workaround (after all I am the workaround Queen) to have reporting, if you need to check only one TEB, described here:

The idea is to use another interactive object that can have a score. In reality I use two instances of that same object: one with score 0 and one with score X and show the right one depending on the conditional action.
However if you want to have multiple TEB's on the same slide, that have to be checked all with the same advanced action, than you'll need either the Mastery widget by InfoSemantics (only for SWF output) or Javascript.

How do I search a site using radio buttons

I am trying to search a site using radio buttons. I have one table and 5 columns. I have 5 radio buttons marked like 01, 02, 03,04,05. I am using Dreamweaver cs5 php, when I click the radio button 01 I will like to get the response with all 01 files. I will like to mention that the file names are like 01-010-1, 01-010-2 and than 02-020-1 and so fourth I do not know how to write the advance query

Thank you for your reply. I am new to editing a pdf and using these programs. I have subscribed to Acrobat XI Pro. When I try to edit the document it directs me to LiveCycle. I cannot move the table in LiveCycle. It won't let me, and I cannot make changes in XI Pro as I did in the trial as it directs me to edit in LiveCycle. Am going in circles.

Setting Site Level Variables

I am creating a SharePoint site collection that will house sites for customer portals (one site per customer). What I would like to do is create a template site that has a couple of key variables (i.e. a customer ID, customer name, etc) that can be accessed
from apps and webparts. Some examples would include:
1. Search list from another site collection using the content search web part
2. Display the customer name on InfoPath forms
3. Set the default value of a list column
When I create a new site from the template for a new customer, I would then update the site-specific variables in the site to reflect that customer without having to change individual web parts or apps within the site.
Is there a recommended way to do something like this?
In other posts, I have seen reference to the Property Bag and managing it in the Central Administration -- is this functionality available in SharePoint Online?

We can use Client Object Model to set property bags.

1. I you are woking from the Web Dynpro for ABAP then after binding the Context variable in the view, and in the Adobe Layout Designer from the Library goto WebDynpro Native Tab and drag and drop the Value Help and for this automatically JavaScript is being generated, go that script and edit the line

Note: dont forget to link the context attribute to search help. ie. in the context properties of the attributes select the input help mode as dictionary search help and specify the name of the search help present in data dictionary.
And now go to Utilities and click on u201CInsert Web Dynpro Scriptu201D.
Also make sure that you specify the Layout as ZCI Layout in the Propertioes of the Adobe Form.
2. Only the Submit button , the Enumerated Drop-Down List as well as the Value help button from the Web Dynpro Native library of Adobe LiveCycle Designer are supported. Check SAP Note: 1098009

Site level variables

I am creating a SharePoint site collection that will house sites for client portals (one site per client). What I would like to do is create a template site that has a couple of key variables (i.e. a client ID, client name, etc) that can be accessed from
apps and webparts. Some examples would include:
1. Search list from another site collection using the content search web part
2. Display the client name on InfoPath forms
3. Set the default value of a list column
When I create a new site from the template for a new client, I would then update the site-specific variables in the site to reflect that client without having to change individual web parts or apps within the site.
Is there a recommended way to do something like this?
In other posts, I have seen reference to the Property Bag and managing it in the Central Administration -- is this functionality available in SharePoint Online?

Query runs slower when using variables & faster when using hard coded value

Hi,
My query runs slower when i use variables but it runs faster when i use hard coded values. Why it is behaving like this ?
My query is in cursor definition in a procedure. Procedure runs faster when using hard coded valus and slower when using variables.
Can anybody help me out there?
