Interal speaker vs line out for boot chime

On my G5 tower, the boot chime would play through the line out connection. On the Intel tower, the boot chime plays through the internal speaker and everything else goes through line out. is this a "feature" of the intel tower, or is there a setting I missed somewhere?
Trivial, but annoying for sure.

It's a feature. The tone indicates that the hardware has passed the power-on tests. They didn't want that indication lost when something was plugged into the audio output jacks. There is software available to shut off the startup tone. Look on Versiontracker or Macupdate. Not all the applications work on all Macs.

  • Need a car charger with line out for 3g

    Hi,
My Belkin charger works great with the v1 iphone, however, it won't charge the 3g. It appears that the Belkin is using the "firewire" pin for charging which isn't supported by the 3g.
I need somebody to recommend a car charger that will charge the 3g and has a "line out" connection for my car's aux input port.
    Thanks

  • Line Out for Nokia N82

I've been using my Nokia 6220 Classic and i realize that there is a thing which i can't find from my N82 like what is in 6220 Classic.
it's the Line Out option that occurs whenever a headphone jack is plugging in.
In 6220C, it looks like this> Select Enhancement: Headphones; Line Out; TV-Out; Music Strand.
But in N82, it juz lack of Line Out> Select Enhancement: Headphones; TV-Out; Mucis Strand.
Okay now, what I want is, IS THERE ANYWAY TO GET LINE OUT OPTION IN N82? ANYTHING TO DO WITH H*CKING?

Just use the Headphones option. it's pretty much the same thing

  • No audio (line-out) for some QT and all Real Player

    This is strange.
This link, which uses Quicktime, will only play SOUND via my internal speakers: http://www.umeportal.com/player.aspx?fid=393&ftyp=3&pgid=7&hid=13728&fp=qt
While this link will play SOUND via external speakers: http://www.apple.com/getamac/
Same with all the HD trailers: http://www.apple.com/trailers/ The the SOUND plays externally ok.
Here's another one that will ONLY play from internal speakers: http://www6.islandrecords.com/site/promo/quicktime/killersbonesquicktime.html
Real player, will play SOME mov files externally, but most others mp3, mpg, mov, will ONLY play via internal speakers.
    Ok, what gives?

    Ugh....nevermind.
I removed USB Overdrive and external audio started working for everything.
This is strange becaues I have been using USB overdrive for about a week w/out any issues.
At the time I noticed the problem...I had been using QT to convert mov files to h.264, mpeg4, Sorensen 3 files and for some reason, using the QT export features -- with USB Overdrive installed -- mucked up audio play back. Go figure.

  • IBolt dock w/ music and navigation enabled - Line out speaker glitch

This has happened 4 times since the JB update when in the car dock mode while cradled in the iBolt.
    connection:
    - cradled in iBolt dock
    - connect line out to vehicle input jack
    - enables car dock mode
    steps:
    - play a music app
    - start navigation app
    - proceed to destination
    trigger:
    - line out connection glitches when voice navigation speaks
    symptoms:
    - sound starts to come out of phone speakers and line out stops
    - sound comes out of both phone speaker and line out simultaneously

I believe this problem is partially due to an  improper reload I was just notified of. I have reset the timeouts to 70,  and although I am still unsure as to why two of the phones reset to 10  (most likely causing this issue), the issue seems to be solved for the  moment, hovwever I will keep this thread open to any suggestions in case  this solution in fact does not solve the issue. The real test will be  the business day tommorow .

So I have to reboot manual with holding power button, but cannot load osx (blank screen), I try to hold smc reset button, don't work too.
So I unplug and plug the memory raiser, so finally everything back to normal. It can loading osx snow leopard normally.
    So what is the problem?
    Thank you,
    David

It's a hardware fault. I suggest you make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have it tested. It's a free service. The repair won't be free, but if it's something simple, such as a bad memory module, you may be able to fix it yourself.

  • Line out on Audigy 2 vs Audigy 2 va

I?m thinking of changing my Audigy 2 value card for a used ?full? Audigy 2 (model SB0240). First of all, I don't see a "plain" version on www.creative.com . What's it proper name (the card was manufactured in 2002)?
The thing I first noticed is that when I tried to use my headphones on "plain" version (Sennheiser HD555 50 ohm or Philips SBC HP 20, I think they?re 6 ohm), I get a much much worse/weaker sound than on the value version (value is from 2004, while full version is from 2002). The sound is something similar to listening a pair of headphones with volume to the max, but from one meter distance. Am I doing something wrong, or this is a normal thing? Should I enable some options to get proper strenght from the line-out? Or on this older version line out is used only for that and a proper headphones out is provided only through a dri've bay in platinum version?
It's a real pitty, since I'm getting this "plain" version real cheap and it's in mint condition, but I upgraded from SoundStorm to Audigy 2 value primarily because of the good line out for headphones... Now I have to return it bc of this and... and I'd like to avoid that

PS CAn I use any of the programs from the full version CD on Value card?

  • Audio line out port (Apple iPad Dock Connector) not working Iphone 4 os 4.2

For my new iphone4, the audio line out port (Apple iPad Dock Connector)is not working. Both using a cable to mini jack (3,5 mm) or in dockingstation.
    I'm using OS 4.2.
    IS this a bug?
    Thanks
    Hans

I just came back from the Apple store.  My iPhone4 DOES have a working line out when plugged into a Apple name brand dock connector.   I don't know why my SendStation refuses to work only with the iPhone4 yet works with iPods, etc..
Solution? I'm buying an Apple iPod dock connector for home and will try to find something with line out for the car - Apple says they do not make one.

  • Guys ... I have a 2008 MacPro running the current Yosemite.  I also have installed the sound amp called "BOOM!"  I have the Sound set to Line Out which should have the computer boot up to BOOM! Instead, it boots up to the Internal speaker. What's up?

    Hi Folks ...
I have a 2008 MacPro running the current Yosemite. I have installed the recommended upgraded video card, but the sound is as it was new. I also have installed the sound amp/graphic equalizer called "BOOM!"  I have the Sound set to Line Out which should have the computer boot up automatically to BOOM!  and thus to the external speakers.  Instead, it boots up to the Internal speaker.  According to the folks at "BOOM!", this is happening to others who have similar Macs.  They can't find any explanation within BOOM!, so I am turning to you all.  Any ideas?

    Hi Kappy ...
Sorry, I guess I didn't state the problem very well.
I don't want the computer to boot up to the internal speaker.  I want it to boot up to the external speakers.  However, even though System Preferences is set on Line Out, when the computer boots up or reboots, it erroneously goes to internal speaker.  So, every time I boot up, I have been going to System Preference/Sound and clicking on Line Out.  From that point on, everything is OK until the next boot up.  It is a small annoyance, but annoying all the less. The simple explanation seems to be that when the computer is shut down, it does not hold the setting for Line Out and resets itself to Internal Speaker.  How do I change that behavior and get it to go to Line Out whenever it boots up?

  • I want sound to go to line out but each new boot it selects internal speaker

I select sound to go to line out but with each new boot it reverts internal speaker. How can I "save" my sound preference??

    Hi Del.
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • After selecting Line Out in preferences the next boot sends sound to internal speaker

How can I get Line Out to to stay as default audio out preference?

I have a very similar problem that occurs to my computer where I will return to my computer after it has gone to sleep, and sound controls do not work. All systems tones come from the internal speaker, as well. After doing a Google search, I came up with an AppleScript to make it change to the internal speaker, then go back to the line out. The script works with the default listings in the sound preferences panel, but you should be able to change it to whatever is listed in your Sound preferences pretty easily. To do it, go to Applications, Utilities, AppleScript Editor. Once there, paste in the code below into the top box. Then do a file, save as. I would change the File Format to Application and save it on your desktop. You could create then a shortcut in your dock to launch it whenever sound is not working right. The script follows this (copy it all from the first tell to the quit):
tell application "System Preferences" to activate
    tell application "System Events"
    get properties
    tell process "System Preferences"
click menu item "Sound" of menu "View" of menu bar 1
    delay 2
set theRows to every row of table 1 of scroll area 1 of ¬
tab group 1 of window "sound"
set theOutputs to {} as list
    repeat with aRow in theRows
if (value of text field 1 of aRow as text) ¬
is equal to "Internal Speakers" then
set selected of aRow to true
    exit repeat
    end if
    end repeat
    end tell
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
    get properties
    tell process "System Preferences"
click menu item "Sound" of menu "View" of menu bar 1
    delay 2
set theRows to every row of table 1 of scroll area 1 of ¬
tab group 1 of window "sound"
set theOutputs to {} as list
    repeat with aRow in theRows
if (value of text field 1 of aRow as text) ¬
is equal to "Line Out" then
set selected of aRow to true
    exit repeat
    end if
    end repeat
    end tell
    end tell
tell application "System Preferences" to quit

Hi can you help the sound is not working on my Mac I have went into settings and there are no option for interal speaker help

Read the documentation at the links.  They won't hurt your data.
Basically smc reset is shutdown, pull your plug for 15 seconds, plug it back in, wait 5 seconds, and reboot.  Harmless to you.  Resets the smc.
Pram reset is similar but you need to push commnd-option-P-R after the boot chime.  Read what does.

  • Distortion workaround: can chip swap using line out jack for rear out ja

I am using a SB Audigy EAX. My headphones sound like a blown speaker mostly out of left ear. I tryed everything including reinstalling xp on my dell and nothing worked [yes I tried other headphones to no avail]. Finally I played around with the balance and realised that the left and right channels were leaking together slightly so I think there is a physical problem on the card. As a temp solution I have set my card to use four speakers and plugged my headphones into the rear out which is a different jack on the card. It sounds fine from the rear out jack but I wish there was a way to have the card use the rear out jack for line out output. In other words is there a program or driver that can tell the chip to swap line out jack for rear out jack? My card is no longer under warranty and I only ever use heaphones. The problem with my temp solution is that some winamp plugins and games don't function properly.

On my sound blaster ex, when connecting through the analogue 6 channel output, Line Out 3 is a 4 pole mini jack. My sound system is only 5. and doesn't need the centre rear speaker. Does any one know if in this case I can just use a standard 3 pole stereo jack for subwoofer and front center?
For analog 5. it should work. See the user's guide.
