So I just found an old 8 Gb SD card I had forgotten about (and was overjoyed because I had just said "if only I had a bigger SD card". Why do good things happen to bad people?). Several months ago I'd used some Windows tool, I think, to make a live USB for ArchBang, which hadn't worked. I put it in my computer and ran `fdisk -l` and got this:

When I ran gparted (a graphical partition editor), it threw up "Invalid partition table: recursive partition on /dev/sdd". Gparted then treats the disk as unformatted, which is presumably its "fallback" behaviour.
This isn't actually a problem for me as I don't need any of the data on the card, but I thought it was a pretty interesting error, so I'd post it here for discussion. I can't work out what's going on, but it seems to me that someething is seriously bawsled up here! Perhaps there was a bug in the library the Windows utility used? I haven't found anything similar online, although this was interesting.
Today may be a day for me to read up on partition tables and the heads/disks/cylinders/sectors/tracks abstractions!

I get the same result when using dd to write the archlinux installer image to usb. It's nothing really. it can easily have a new partition table made with gparted. It's likely the tool you used in Windows also wrote the bootable image with a low level utility similar to dd. dd generally starts at the very beginning of a disk when pointed at the device and not a partition number. /dev/sdb instead of /dev/sdb1. Meaning it overwrites the first 512byte sector too(mbr) With whatever the image/ISO contains. I've never regarded it as an issue. Just kinda confusing to tools that expect data like a partition table to be present in a normal structure.

Interesting error on delete of multiple files

Hi all, none of the posts I found with errors on deletion or recycle bin errors discussed what I found.
I am a LR1.4 user, just installed LR 2 Trial, and did my first shoot review.
I marked about 25 files as rejected, hit Ctrl+Backspace to remove rejected photos, and selected delete from disk. After about a dozen deletions, LR reported that file XYZ could not be moved to the recycle bin. Well, I DON'T USE the recycle bin! Windows XP is set up to delete all files. I checked the image - no locks - and tried again. It continued and finished successfully, even deleting the file it first complained about.
I encountered a similar error prior to this, when moving files to another folder, which was also fixed by repeating the command, but I didn't note the exact error message, because it worked and I thought it was a fluke error.
My equipment is as follows:

Intel Centrino Core Solo 1.86GHz,
2GB DDR2 RAM,
160GB, 7200RPM Seagate Momentus HD, with 30GB free,
Integrated Intel GMA, running @ 1280x800x24-bit colour,

Anyone else found this? When I get time, I'll do some more tests, and send a bug report to Adobe (unless you're reading, and would like to request specific tests.) :-)

I experience exactly the same problem with LR3 and LR4. Deleting multiple fotos in differen folders using some filters (i.G. all X-ed fotos of the past two months) I get following messages:
Basically it says that a folder and the LR catalog in the trash bin is missing and has to be recreated. Usually I get a full bunch of such messages. Deleting 150 fotos I have to click on 30 to 40 error messages. Very annoying.
Deleting manually selected fotos from a single folder works as expected.
Any idea?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
First off, do you have a lot of these log entries, or just the one? Second, can you recall what you were doing at the time when this log entry appeared? Sometimes there's a date and time stamp at the beginning of the log entry that will tell you when the entry was made.
In the log itself, it's basically saying that the Pasteboard Server (pbs) logged an error where it couldn't read from a property list (a type of preferences file). And that it's the file located at that path. That file, at least on my computer, gives a bunch of names for parts of the day, and when they occur. For example, here's one of the entries:

This error can sometimes be odd, in that the error isn't really in that file, but some other property list. You should be able to check that file by opening the Terminal application and using this command (copy and paste it in, then hit the "enter" key):

If the file is okay, then it should print the whole path back out, with "OK" on the end. If it doesn't say "OK", then post back with the message it gives...

Interesting error when iPhone 3G connects to iTunes

I get an error message when I connect my iPhone 3g to my computer to sync with iTunes. I don't know if Apple Discussions allow you to embed pics into the messages or not. I have tried at least:

JavaMail interesting error

Hi JavaGurus,
I am getting an error when I try to send a mail
using an html document. I'm using JavaMail to do that. Basically when the submit button is pressed, it invokes a servlet and that servlet should an e-mail to the address in the html document that the user writes. I have narrowed down the error to this statement:

I'm running WinXP, 2 GB of RAM. The weirder thing is, if I opened up Lightroom on my wife's acct. on the same computer, it worked perfectly.
I agree 1.0 is terrible after using 1.3 :-) I tried to re-install 1.2, and 1.3 and got the same error message.
If it means anything, I had just exported the catalog to my backup drive, deleted the pics, and cleaned up the HD, then Defragged. I don't see where that would be a problem, but ya never know!

@checkdeps.sql Interesting error (topic PLSXML)

To test if everything was setup properly so that I could use DBXML, I ran the checkdeps.sql script that comes along with the PLSXML bundle. There is a call to
owa_util.mime_header('text/xml',true)
in it. The script runs fine when the text being supplied is ' text/xml' instead of 'text/html' as in the original script.
In the second case (ie the original case), I get the following error:

Steve, thank you for your link to PLSXML in my yesterday's posting.

This is a problem that was introduced with the MOD_PLSQL-era versions of the OWA packages.
It's harmless, since when the OWA packages are used through the web server they work correctly (since the proper initialization is done). But for some reason now from the SQL*Plus command line, some bit of initialization is not done and you get this error.
Try invoking it through the URL of your web server.

Interesting Error with DV AVI video

Alright, my specs are listed elsewhere, but we'll move on past them for now
I use DV AVI (DVSD codec) video pretty regularly. We use firestore hard drives and hook up firewire to do direct file based dumps. The issue I am having is that certain clips in one bay (the one I am currently typing from) will have no audo in Ppro, but if I use windows media player or quicktime it will play with audio everytime, and once imported into adobe it shows that it has waveforms in the clip preview (in the project pane). But if I use any option to have it play in adobe (the preview source monitor, pulling it onto the timeline, using the small preview monitor in the upper left of the projet pane) I get NO audio, no wave form, no levels in the monitor, nothing. I am using the same project I always do, and I have tried reimporting the footage into new projects, making sure the project wasn't corrupted. The next obvious question is: is the video corrupted? No, I've actually moved it to other bays and it works perfectly, as it should.
This bay has up to day 64 bit audio and video drivers, and I am fairly sure it has up to date 64 bit codecs (IEC 61834 and SMPTE 314M is the vendor of the DVSD codec according to G-spot), though some confirmation of that would be great. Below is the GSPOT capture for one of the clips that is a problem.

This is the first time I've used MediaInfo, so if I gave you the wrong info, let me know.
The wierd thing is that I just imported a lot of video from an identical (but different) camera into the same bay, and it all worked perfectly. And again, the particular footage in question played perfectly in other bays.
We have used Matrox in the past (and in fact have one legacy bay), but it never touched this footage.

Unable to print a report- Server Error

I have a java/CR XI (sp3) web application which will display reporters but will not print them. When attempting to print the Crystal report viewer page shows the print dialog page with a choice of printers. When I select a printer and press print. I get a "Server Error" message box that says "An error occured on the server. Printing will be stopped. Would you like to view the error information?" When I say "yes" I get a blank page "PrintControlError.html". There is also a background window that says "Retrieving page 1".

That suggest a communication issue between the ActiveX Print Control and the server.
The ActiveX Print Control posts back to the generating page for each page that it prints out.
If you use [Fiddler|http://www.fiddlertool.com/] (.NET based) or [Charles|http://www.charlesproxy.com/] (Java based) on the client browser machine, are you able to see any error messages in the page 1 request?
ActiveX controls usually hide interesting error messages.

Error in Mail Sender Adapter

Hi all,
without any obvious reason i'm suddenly getting an error in the runtime workbench at the Communication Channel Monitoring:
exception caught during processing mail message; java.io.IOException: unexpected greeting response; read * BYE Connection refused
I already restarted the j2ee engine, but with no success.
Can anybody please help me?

Thank you for the tip with the Log Viewer. I discovered there an interesting error:
SLD start failure, profile parameter ObjectManager.BufferInstances must be set to FALSE in J2EE cluster environment. Change the SLD profile and start the application again.
Is it possible that the SLD is down and causes my error?
Because in the Adapter-Monitor i get an similar error for the JPR-Adapter (what for is this Adapter?):
SLD access SLD host:port = xxyyzz:12345
Error getting JPR configuration from SLD. Exception: entityNotFound
No access to get JPR configuration
