Intermitent connection to network devices

Hi, until recently I had been having no problems connecting to other devices on my network from my iMac, I have a couple of windows PCs with shared folders, a NAS and one of the windows PCs also runs a VNC server. All of these were working fine until I went away for the weekend, I don't know if my girlfriend has accidentally changed any of the network settings but when I came back the iMac was connecting to the wrong wireless network (a nearby unsecured network), I tried to get it to connect to my own network which uses WPA but I kept getting "invalid password" or "connection timeout" messages even after double checking the password. I gave up and decided to leave it till the morning but when I tried to connect again the next day it just worked however now I am getting intermittent connections to my local network devices. The connection to the router and the internet is constant but the are frequent periods of several minutes where I cannot access network shares or the VNC server. All the windows PCs on my network are constantly able to access these shares and the VNC server. What could have changed on the iMac to cause this?

I just attempted to measure the period that the network devices are available/not available for by pinging one of the network devices continuously and it seems that the devices are available for exactly 10min then not available for exactly 10min which seems very unusual. any ideas?

  • Connect wired network device to AX?

I have an Airport Extreme connected to my cable modem, linking to an Airport Express in my living room's entertainment center using WDS. Works great. I'm looking at buying a Blu-ray player that has an Ethernet port for streaming services. Can I extend my home network from the Express to the Blu-ray player using an Ethernet cable? The AX User Guide only discusses using the Ethernet port to connect to a cable modem or existing network.

Take a look at the setup for a WDS arrangement posted to the forum earlier by Tesserax.
Your "g" devices can be configured to do this, and the ethernet port will be active, but the the wireless network bandwidth will be reduced by 50% when you do this.
This may or may not allow you to stream the content you need. There's really no way to know unless you try.

  • A connection to the deployment share could not be made - Networking device did not have a driver installed

I have a couple of HP 8200 desktops that I think might have bad nics. When I PXE boot them and start my LiteTouch, I get a Wizard error that says
A connection to the deployment share (\\mydpshare\share) could not be made. The following networking device did not have a driver installed
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502&SUBSYS_1496103C&REV_04
I have that driver in MDT and it works on other HP 8200s. Looking into the Wpeinit.log, it looks like the driver loads but maybe the nic is bad:

    Hi,
According to your description, it should be Intel NIC driver problem. I have checked HP official website, there is new NIC driver released, please access to the link below to download the NIC driver for test:

  • I can VPN into my work but can't connect to any devices inside that network

I authenticate fine and get an address but I cant connect to any devices inside my work.  I am connecting to Cisco Lan controllers, routers, and switches.
I thought it was a routing problem but I can connect with my iphone and open the webpage for my lan controllers and I even tested it on a pc laptop with Windows XP and it works fine.  I have a 2012 Macbook pro.  I prefer to use my Macbook all the time.  I haven't used my Windows laptop until today since I got the Mac.  Do you think I have the V-Word?

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. The purpose of this test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Can I connect a wired device to access network?

I have an Airport Express set up as "Join a Wireless network" Can I connect a wired device to the ethernet port of my AE so that it can access the network?

The Ethernet port is normally enabled in the "Join" mode,  if you have one of the newer 802.11n models of the AirPort Express.
If you have an older "b/g" version of the Express, the Ethernet port is not enabled in the "join" mode. Check the model number on the side of the Express. If you see A1084 or A1088, this is an older version of the Express.
Test your current Express to see if the port is already enabled by temporarily turning off the wireless on a laptop and connecting the laptop to the Express using an Ethernet cable. See if you can get an Internet connection. If you can, you know the Ethernet port is working.

  • Connect Apple TV to networked devices

I have a science lab with (2) Visio LCD TVs, an NEC projector, a SMART board, and a Dell computer w/ Windows 7. All of these devices are connected by HDMI cables and/or VGA cables.
Can an Apple TV be connected to these networked devices so that the Apple TV will play on all devices selected?

The ATV is connected to a source via HDMI (i.e. LCD HDTV) and can utilize airplay/home-sharing to connect to your computer and other IOS devices.

  • Network Devices not able to connect to the Internet, but local network has no issues.

    Hello All,
I have been having this problem for the past 4 months or so(ever since I got the server).  I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 machine running a DHCP server.  I have 2 network devices installed on it.  One hardwired to the motherboard and one
connected by a PCI-E slot.  I got a second card because I thought something was going on with the primary NIC.  However I have the same issue with the 2nd NIC.  I have remedied the issue by setting the server to restart every 2 days, very inconvenient.
After restart, everything is fine for 2 days.  All drivers are fully up-to-date and Windows is up-to-date as of last months' updates.  I also updated BIOS to the latest version.  Any help will be much appreciated.
I have ruled out hardware issues, and here are my specs:
    Intel Core i7 3rd Gen @3.4GHz
    8GB DDR3 RAM
    Server 2012 R2 Standard 64-Bit
    Intel On-board Gigabit Ethernet
TrendNet Gigabit PCI-E (Realtek Chip embedded, uses Realtek drivers)
    Thanks

    Hi,
Is DHCP the only service that the server is used for?
What are you using for DNS?
When internet connectivity is lost on a client device, what does IPConfig show (a correctly assigned DHCP address or an APIPA address)?
    Is DHCP AD Integrated?
How long is the DHCP lease?

  • More than 4 network Devices - how do i connect?

    Hi,
I have a new Home Hub 4 and i am currently using all the outlets from my network devices. I now need another connection in my lounge for my blue ray player, but i obviously do not have anymore network connections available?
I have an old home hub 3, could i swap the connection to the spare LAN2 at my modem and put the hub 3 on the other end and then have 4 connections available instead of the original 1?
I am a novice as this and would appreciate any help to solve my current problem - diagrams would be very useful.
    Regards
    Rob
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    >Disable the wifi card on your computer/laptop as you dont want to change settings on master hub by accident.
    >Power on old hub but do not connect to phone line just plug it into the wall and connect an ethernet cable from this to your computer.
    >Navigate to 192.168.1.254 on your browser this will bring up your hub configuration page.
    > Goto Advanced - Firewall - Configuration - Disable.
    > HUB 4 AND 5 ONLY: Goto Advanced - Home network - Smart Setup - Disable.
    > Goto Advanced - Home Network - IP addresses - In the IP address box type 192.168.1.10 and then click on DHCP server disable - apply. (Do both steps then hit apply or you will loose connection and it will be difficult to get back)
    > Now plug the old Hub into the main hub via ethernet or powerline network plugs and voila you have an access point.
At this point you will have 2 seperate wireless networks broadcasting 2 names (ssid) and using 2 different wireless keys, which itself is not a problem just point your devices at the one you want to connect to and it will work, however now would be a good time to set yourself a nice custom SSID and wireless key that you can remember easily and to do this follow instructions below.
To set master Hub goto 192.168.1.254 in your browser
To set slave Hub goto 192.168.1.10 in your browser.
Instructions are the same for both.
Goto advanced - wireless - and now set SSID - Wireless key to a custom choice, if you are using the same SSID and Key for both hubs make sure you set the same security type or devices may not be able to connect to one or the other.
Below applies to secondary hubs only and your main hub will have the same status lights as normal.
On Hubs V2 and V3 you will be left with just the wireless and power lights illuminated the broadband light will be off.
Hub V4 your status light will be orange and your broadband light will flash constantly this is normal.
Hub V5 your status light will be orange and broadband light will flash constantly, however occaisionally the status light will flash as if its trying to connect, again this is normal and does not effect operation.

Just recently updated an iPhone 4 to iOS 7. Having trouble activating iMessage. It will not connect to network. Any help ?? All connections are fine other apple devices are working

    Hey X300X,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with iMessages. The following article may help to resolve your issue:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2755
You may also want to reset your network settings:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: this will delete any network related settings (saved Wi-Fi passwords, etc), it will not erase any content from your device.
    Thanks,

  • Connected to network, yet no devices appear.

I recently reformatted my macbook and since the reformat I've had intermittent problems with other devices on the network appearing in finder or even in the Network section. Earlier today I remember seeing the other devices on the network, and yet now that I'm actually trying to connect to one of the devices, nothing is showing up on the network.
There is one iMac and one PC, and another Macbook which is currently being used and SHOULD be showing up, but none of them are. Going View>Network in finder yields 0 items.
This is very frustrating as I quite often have to refer to files on other devices on my network. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Ah. If you can use 'Connect to Server' then your devices are all probably on the same logical network. You need to work out why they're not showing in the Finder sidebar and/or to locate the IPs or the network names.
If you have physical access to the other devices you can determine their IPs and/or network names (the exact method depends on which version of Windows they're using) and use those in the 'Connect to Server' dialog.
The easy way to get the other network devices to show in the Finder sidebar is to determine which device is the Master Browser and either set it to transmit the proper info (if it's an Active Directory server) or to have your Mac take over as Master Browser instead. The simplest way for the Mac to become Master Browser is for it to be the first network device to appear on the logical network. In a home net, it's simple to just shut everyone else down and then reboot the Mac. In an office, this may not be so easy.

  • Connecting network device directly to MacPro

I have a mid 2010 MacPro connected to an Airport Extreme router. The router is getting flaky so I can replace it with a better one if needed. In the mean time I want to add another TV tuner to the MacPro. Since the tuner will only need to be acessed by the MacPro can I just connect it to the other ethernet port on the MacPro? All the ports in the router are currently used.

For any other network newbies that might be interested the answer is Yes you can connect a network divice directly to your MacPro and have the computer see it. I am sure there are ways to get the other computers on teh network to see the device but I don't need to do that in this case.

  • ITunes No longer connects to WiFi Devices

So I have an iPhone and an iPad 2.  Since the release of OS5, I've been using WiFi sync and it's worked great.
All of a sudden in the past few days, my iTunes will NOT connect to either device.  Nothing changed that I know of, it just doesn't work anymore.
I used to start iTunes and it would automatically find the devices and show them in the list on the left hand side.  Now that doesn't happen, and when I try to sync from the devices, it says iTunes is unavailable.
    Suggestions?  thanks!

Yeah they're both on the same network and have no WiFi issues other than sync.  IP scheme is good & stuff.  Think I might have just fixed it.  I've rebooted the machine (desktop that's hard wired to the router) several times to no avail.  Just now I booted the machine down, the restarted the router, then booted the machine back up.  As soon as I started iTunes, both devices came up like before.  Must have been the router not cooperating I guess.

  • Deploying Printer to XP and Win 7 environment before it is connected to network

I have a client that is getting 4 new office printers that will be replacing their leased printers.
The third party company will come in, take away the old printers and set up the new printers. By set up, I mean they will connect the network cable, power it on, program the IP address I give them and take off. I need to pr-stage these printers so that users
will be able to print as soon as the new printers are powered on. There are a lot of users depending on these printers to work with little downtime as possible. This is a 24/7 operation unfortunately. So, it is a server 2008 R2 / Windows XP / Windows 7 domain
    environment.
I am really getting close to the deadline of new printers arriving so I will walk through exact
steps I have taken to get this set up.
Ok. I have a server running 2008 R2. I added the Print services role.
Right click 'Printers' -> Add printer
select 'Add a TCP/IP Printer by IP address or hostname'
    'Type of device' = 'Autodetect'
'hostname or IP address' = 'x.x.x.x' (IP address that printer will be set to)
    'Port name' = 'x.x.x.x_2'
do NOT select 'auto detect printer driver'
     select 'Generic Network Card'
    select 'Install new driver'
select 'Have Disk' and browse to driver
    'Printer name' = Printer Name
    select 'share this printer'
    'Share name' = Printer Name
next, next, driver installs and printer installs, and finish.
Now you have the printer installed and showing up under printers.
Now, I right click printer and -> deploy with group policy
Browse to the OU where users are located in ADUC, select the GPO that I have linked to that OU, select 'apply to users' click 'add' and click 'OK'.
    The GPO adds a setting:
    User Config -> Policies -> Windows Settings -> Printer Connections -> Path -> \\Server\Printer
Now, I log in to a win 7 computer, gpupdate, printer shows up in devices and printers. I can't print to it obviously since it's not connected to the network yet. But, when I log in to an XP computer, run gpupdate, it does NOT populate in devices and printers.
When I run gpresult the policy is applied, but the printer is not showing up in devices and printers. Also,
I can search for the printer and install it that way since I chose 'list in directory' from the printer server so I know the driver is correct.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you in advance.

From the previous description, are you using Deployed Printers? If yes, you need to run pushprinterconnections.exe on XP. You can find a 32bit binary in \windows\system32 on a 32bit version of Windows 7 With SP1.
    Alan Morris Windows Printing Team
One more question Alan, how can I set these printers I have deployed as the default for the users?

  • E5: Ovi Suite has lost connection with your device...

I am trying to update the software on my E5 using OVI suite but I keep getting an error during the install phase (after backup). The following error and instructions are displayed in the OVI suite window but makes no difference when I follow these instructions (just end up back with the same error).
"Nokia Ovi Suite has lost connection with your device. Follow these steps to help reconnect your device:
    1. Remove USB cable from your device.
    2. Restart the device (turn off and on again).
    3. Re-insert the USB cable.
    4. Click 'Ok' below to continue updating."
Current E5 software version is 042.007.
I am trying to update to E5 software v. 043.115
    Any ideas?

Yep having the same issue. Just got a replacement handset due to the random restarting issue, soon after setting up the new handset I get a message on phone saying software update is available. Both OVI suite and Nokia software updater say version 43.115 is available (about 200mb in size), I currently have the same version as you 42.007. It claims to do a lot of improvements to the handset. The update downloads fine but when it comes to installing I keep getting the same issue. Phone simply will not restart automatically and the update restarts then fails at the same point over and over. Had the same problem with my previous handset.
I spoke with my network provider to see if it was an issue with the handset needing firmware specific to them but they said no it is an issue with the firmware itself and has been happening to everyone since its release!!! They said I should not download it until Nokia has resolved the issues with it. But how do I know when that will happen as I cannot find anything put out by Nokia stating there is an issue or anywhere on web forums saying there is actually a problem.
