Intermittent lookup failures and system limits?

Hi,
on our deployment system we sometimes see intermitten failures of lookups. E.g. on the Webserver (Apache2.2) with a reverse proxy to an internal machine defined in /etc/hosts we will get "DNS Lookup failure", after a few reloads it works. Or restart of the apache helped, too. In our postgres mirroring script we have a similar problem. A host cannot be found even though the host is defined in /etc/hosts.
Since the problems are not 100% reproducable, I was thinking about some system limits (open files, processes?)
Did anybody run into a similar problem or has some hints where to look?
Christian

Hi,
I've been running a reverse proxied Webserver setup to an internal machine for over 4 months and not seen this problem. My reverse proxy instructions are located in /etc/apache2/sites/specifichostfile in the <IfModule modproxybalancer.c> module instructions.
I just use the internal IP to denote the machine not even bothering with a DNS entry. But an A record could be introduced to lookup the internal machine. If all the traffic on this domain goes to an internal machine you can specify the IP address in the WebService->General panel. In my case I am only diverting the /cgi-bin/ traffic in one case and Rails traffic in another, and so am more selective.
HTH,
Harry

  • ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure and SYSTEM datafile corrupt

    We have an Oracle 10g Express database that is getting the following error on startup.
    ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure
    It is also showing that the SYSTEM datafile is corrupt. And unfortunately the backups are gone. Is there any way to recover from this without a backup? Maybe some hidden undocumented parameter???
    We do have some full database exports from a couple weeks ago so it is not a complete loss but would really like a full recover.

    We have tried allowresetlogs_corruption and allowread_only_corruption and no luck so far.

  • Installing update we had power failure and system will not boot

    We do not have a current working back-up, how do I re-install the os w/o erasing the entire hard drive?  We have a Intel Imac with snow leopard on it.

    Thanks for the info.  This is my fathers machine and I am the one that gets stuck fixing it when he has problems. I used to be an Apple Certified Repair Tech in 99/00 but that seems like a life time ago now.
    The system came with 10.5.  We upgraded to SL and have the disk and then to Lion which was a downloadable upgrade correct?  I will take a look at the link you sent.
    Thanks,
    Matt

  • Proper use of a Lookup table and adaptations for NET

    Hello,
    I need to create a few lookup tables and I often see the following:
    create table Languages
    Id int identity not null primary key (Id),
    Code nvarchar (4) not null,
    Description nvarchar (120) not null,
    create table Posts
    Id int identity not null primary key (Id),
    LanguageId int not null,
    Title nvarchar (400) not null,
    insert into Languages (Id, Code, Description)
    values (1, "en", "English");
    This way I am localizing Posts with language id ...
    IMHO, this is not the best scheme for Languages table because in a Lookup table the PK should be meaningful, right?
    So instead I would use the following:
    create table Languages
    Code nvarchar (4) not null primary key (Code),
    Description nvarchar (120) not null,
    create table Posts
    Id int identity not null primary key (Id),
    LanguageCode nvarchar (4) not null,
    Title nvarchar (400) not null,
    insert into Languages (Code, Description)
    values ("en", "English");
    The NET applications usually use language code so this way I can get a Post in English without using a Join.
    And with this approach I am also maintaining the database data integrity ...
    This could be applied to Genders table with codes "M", "F", countries table, transaction types table (should I?), ...
    However I think it is common to use int as PK in lookup tables because it is easier to map to ENUMS.
    And know it is even possible to map to Flag Enums so have a Many to Many relationship in an ENUM.
    That helps in NET code but in fact has limitations. A Languages table could never be mapped to a FLags Enum ...
    ... An flags enum can't have more than 64 items (Int64) because the keys must be a power of two.
    A SOLUTION
    I decided to find an approach that enforces database data integrity and still makes possible to use enums so I tried:
    create table Languages
    Code nvarchar (4) not null primary key (Code),
    Key int not null,
    Description nvarchar (120) not null,
    create table Posts
    Id int identity not null primary key (Id),
    LanguageCode nvarchar (4) not null,
    Title nvarchar (400) not null,
    insert into Languages (Code, Key, Description)
    values ("en", 1, "English");
    With this approach I have a meaningfully Language code, I avoid joins and I can create an enum by parsing the Key:
    public enum LanguageEnum {
    [Code("en")
    English = 1
    I can even preserve the code in an attribute. Or I can switch the code and description ...
    What about Flag enums? Well, I will have not Flag enums but I can have List<LanguageEnum> ...
    And when using List<LanguageEnum> I do not have the limitation of 64 items ...
    To me all this makes sense but would I apply it to a Roles table, or a ProductsCategory table?
    In my opinion I would apply only to tables that will rarely change over time ... So:
        Languages, Countries, Genders, ... Any other example?
    About the following I am not sure (They are intrinsic to the application):
       PaymentsTypes, UserRoles
    And to these I wouldn't apply (They can be managed by a CMS):
       ProductsCategories, ProductsColors
    What do you think about my approach for Lookup tables?
    Thank You,
    Miguel

    >>IMHO, this is not the best scheme for Languages table because in a Lookup table the PK should be meaningful, right?<<
    Not necessarily. The choice to use, or not to use, a surrogate key in a table is a preference, not a rule. There are pros and cons to either method, but I tend to agree with you. When the values are set as programming terms, I usually use a textual value
    for the key. But this is nothing to get hung up over.
    Bear in mind however, that this:
        create table Languages
          Id int identity not
    null primary key
    (Id),
          Code nvarchar (4)
    not null, Description nvarchar
    (120) not
    null,
    is not equivalent to
        create table Languages
          Code nvarchar (4)
    not null primary
    key (Code),
          Description nvarchar (120)
    not null,
    The first table needs a UNIQUE constraint on Code to make these solutions semantically the same. The first table could have the value 'Klingon' in it 20 times while the second only once.
    >>However I think it is common to use int as PK in lookup tables because it is easier to map to ENUMS.<<
    This was going to be my next point. For that case, I would only change the first table to not have an identity assigned key value, as it would be easier to manage at the same time and manner as the enum.
    >>. A Languages table could never be mapped to a FLags Enum ...<<
    You could, but I would highly suggest to avoid any values encoded in a bitwise pattern in SQL as much as possible. Rule #1 (First Normal Form) is partially to have 1 value per column. It is how the optimizer thinks, and how it works best.
    My rule of thumb for lookup (or I prefer the term  "domain" tables, as really all tables are there to look up values :)), is all data should be self explanatory in the database, through data if at all possible. So if you have a color column,
    and it contains the color "Vermillion", and all you will ever need is the name, and you feel like it is good enough to manage in the UI, then great. But bear in mind, the beauty of a table that is there for domain purposes, is that you can then store
    the R, G, and B attributes of the vermillion color (254, 73, 2 respectively, based on
    http://www.colorcombos.com/colors/FE4902) and you can then use that in coding. Alternate names for the color could be introduce, etc. And if UserRoles are 1, 2, 3, and 42 (I have seen worse), then
    definitely add columns. I think you are basically on the right track.
    Louis

  • Intermittent send failures in Outlook 2011 for MAC

    Ever since Verizon changed its POP server settings, I am getting intermittent send failures from MS Outlook for MAC 2011 even though I made the correct port changes and SSL options in Outlook 2011.  Everywhere I look for assistance, including Microsoft, Apple and Verizon, no one has found anything wrong other than Microsoft suspects that Verizon's server doesn't like too many logins and passwords in a set period of time.  Apparently, every email that is sent, sends a User Name and Password to Verizon's server.  MS suspects that the server doesn't like that and rejects messages within a certain time period.  Furthermore, I cannot find any Verizon support for Outlook 2011 for the MAC!  Once again this is "intermittent" such as 4 messages will go and then the 5th will not.  If I leave it in the outbox, it will eventually send.  I'm not sure that MS's theory is fully correct because sometimes I get the send failures on the first message sent.  The error message says, "Outlook cannot find the server etc."  "Error Code: 3170".  All incoming messages come into Outlook 2011 correctly.  Does Verizon support Outlook 2011 for the MAC?

    I had the same issue.  After talking to a Verizon FIOS technician from thier techinical support center, he said that no changes are needed for Outlook for Mac.  That means the settings should be:
    Incoming server: incoming.verizon.net
    Incoming port: 110
    Use SSL to connect: UNCHECKED
    Outgoing server: outgoing.verizon.net
    Outgoing port: 25
    Use SSL to connect: UNCHECKED
    Hope that helps others not waste an hour searching Verizon's website and trying to navigate their massive phone tree to actually speak to a technician.

  • RFC lookup to PI system or other ERP system.Which is better?

    Hello experts,
    I have a scenario[RFC>PI(RFCLOOKUP,SOAP LOOKUP)->SOAP] where I have to  fetch or update  the data in the table using RFC lookup in the mapping.
    To store or update  the data ,I have created a table in PI system and through RFC LOOKUP I am fetching the data in the message mapping.
                                                                                    Some PI developers prefers not to create this elements in the PI system  and suggested a way to create them in the ERP.
    I wanted to crosscheck with you all  whether Lookup to PI system is better or to ERP system in terms of  performance, security and std maintenance.
    -Conceptually, they see PI as a communication tool, not the best option for storing data, which is an ERP function.
    some prefer  ERP option  to Simplify the upgrade / system patching processes. As No Z-Objects makes the checking process much easier and there is no need to adapt those objects to the new release environment.
    I appreciate your valuable suggestions.

    Hello Souvik,
    Thank you so much for your reply.
    But in my case the RFC lookup will be executed twice because the authorization data(token ans sign values which is stored in PI) is valid for 12 hours.
    if I find that these data is expired ,I have to do a soap lookup to get these details from a webservice and also have to update the same in the PI table using RFC lookup.All these activities are done in message mapping.
    so first RFC LOOKUP is used  to fetch the data and if expired,I get these details from a webservice and update(executing second time RFC LOOKUP) in PI table ,so that next time when request comes ,I will fetch these details from PI table instead from webservice to send message  to the receiver.
    same functionality is required for 4-5 scenarios,all acessing the same PI table.
    So Kindly advice considering these situation,will the performance,security,maintenance  be good when doing RFC lookup to other ERP instead of doing RFC lookup to PI system .
    Kind Regards,
    Kubra.

  • Set High and Low Limits for an Item

    Hello Experts,
    We want to set up HI and Low Limits in SAP so that they can help us know when we are low on an Item. We would like to see when we are in a sales order and place an order for an Item that falls below the low limit the system will let us know and still allow us to place the order.
    The Low limits have to go on what is in inventory in warehouse 1 not what is on order. We would also like to be able to run a report that allows us to see what items are below the low limit and also which items are close to the low limit. ( Comparison Report).
    Any help in the above scenario would be appreciated.
    Regards,

    Hi Parneeth,
    have you fill the data in item master data --> inventory tab --> minimum & maximum inventory level.
    u can define this for each warehouse.
    may this help u..

    Hi Kassim,
    At KMS I recently ran into the same ORA-22813, when running this cursor SQL
         CURSOR lcur_montage IS
         select m.mont_id, m.sys_PK, m.krtp_id, m.mont_geom, m.til_dato_id , m.forloeb
         from MTK_montage m
         where m.fra_dato_id = in_dato_id
         and m.krtp_id = 1
         order by m.mont_id;
    Omitting the order by clause makes it work fine. If I alternatively omit the SDO_geometry m.mont_geom as a select item, the query also works.
    Our problem seems to arise when trying to sort selected rows, which contain large objects such as SDO_geometry.
    Yesterday we played around with SORT_AREA_SIZE, but to no avail. It turns out to be a known bug.
    When I today search for ORA-22813 in MetaLink, the first list item is
    1.
    9.2.0.X Patch Sets - List of Bug Fixes by Problem Type

    Status: PUBLISHED
    Platform: Generic issue
    Product: Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition
    which unfortunately will not open and reveal its content.
    On the other hand trying MetaLink -> Bugs -> search for 'ORA-22813' gives amongst others Bug 2656107, which looks a lot like my problem.
    For Oracle eyes: - when will this bug be fixed? Does it solve the problem at hand?
    - regards

  • Instance failure, in System.Data in sql 2012

    On Win Server 2012 Standard I have a C# app that runs fine with sql 2008 express. When I installed sql 2012 express I get "instance Failure" source: System.data. when the following LYNQ query executes:
    //MessageBox.Show("Starting GetInitialPortStatus.");
    db =new
    DataClasses1DataContext();   //establish
    dataconnection to CALMasterSQL
    // 2. Query creation.
    var PortsQuery =from
    portrecord in db.Channels
    select portrecord;
    // 3. Query execution.
    int count = 0;
    // MessageBox.Show("Starting >portrecord in PortsQuery<.");
    foreach (var
    portrecord in PortsQuery)
    // add rows to the grid for each record in the database Ports table
    Otherwise the app works fine. The closet fix in the forum I could find was to run
    exec sp_configure 'user instances enabled',
    1.
    Go
    Reconfigure
    Which I did but no change.
    How can this be corrected. It seems like it is a known issue but no fix for sql 2012?
    Thanks
    Morris
    Thank you Morris

    Thanks for your reply.
    The connection string is:
    <add name="CMMainWindow.Properties.Settings.CALLMASTERConnectionString"
                connectionString="Data Source=HLA2012\\SQL2012EXP;Initial Catalog=CALLMasterSQL;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=5"
                providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
    The SQl instance is call "SQL2012EXP". There is also SQL 2008 Express on the same machine called SQLExpress.
    Both engines work fine in every other way.
    Thanks
    Morris
    Thank you Morris
    Hi MoCoder,
    According to your description, if it contains a double-slash between the server name and the database instance name in your connection string, it should be localhost\SQLEXPRESS. There is a similar issue about instance failure when connecting to SQL Server
    Express in C# application. You can review the following article.
    http://www.hanselman.com/blog/FixingInstanceFailureWhenConnectingToSQLServer2005Express.aspx
    In addition, Make sure your SQL Server instance(MSSQLSERVER) is running via the services management console.
    Thanks,

  • What is the difference in the System Event triggers: Any queue limit set to zero and System queue reached its job limit

    My co-worker and I are not sure what the difference between Any queue limit set to zero and System queue reached its job limit are in the System Events.

    Hi jlayton,
    System queue limit is the sum of all queue limits you have defined. For example, if you have a system queue limit of, say, 100 -- queue A has 50 jobs active, and queue B also has 50 jobs active, then you will receive an alert System queue reached its job limit since it is set to 100.
    Any queue limit set to zero. Note, this may also include the System queue. For example, if you want to gracefully stop Tidal, you may want to set system queue = 0 so that there are no active jobs. When you do this, you will receive an alert queue limit set to zero.

  • DeserializationException: mapping lookup failure for xml type

    I generated a web-services.xml with the wsdl2Service task without a type mapping. The service is a document/literal based web service. I implemented the Java method, which accepts a single parameter with type javax.xml.soap.SOAPElement and returns javax.xml.soap.SOAPElement. Everytime I invoke the method from a client I get the following error from the server (WebLogic 8.1 SP4):
    weblogic.xml.schema.binding.DeserializationException: mapping lookup failure for xml type ['urn:mytest1']:test and java interface javax.xml.soap.SOAPElement
    at weblogic.xml.schema.binding.RuntimeUtils.invoke_deserializer(RuntimeUtils.java:325)
    What could be wrong with my configuration?

    Hi,
    I am also facing the same problem on weblogic8.1SP1.
    If you had rectified this problem, please advice me as well.
