Intermittent mail receipt

Hi - I have a 4 year old iMac which I have recently upgraded to Yosemite.  I run Avira free anti-virus software.
My problem is intermittent inbound mail receipt - over the past couple of weeks, inbound mail sometimes does not arrive in Mail for up to 3 days.  The problem started after the upgrade to Yosemite, but not immediately - several weeks afterwards in fact.
I can read the e-mails from my phone - so they are clearly reaching my account with my ISP (Plusnet).  Plusnet's website suggests that Antivirus programs can be a problem and that a resolution can be to uninstall them and then reinstall.  I haven't tried this yet, as it seems odd to me that e-mails are getting through eventually - I would have thought that Avira would either block them altogether or not at all.
I get a warning triangle with an exclamation mark in it next to my inbox.  When I click on that I get the following message:
"There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “Plusnet email” or try again.
The server returned the error: Connections to the server “mail.plus.net” on the default ports timed out."
Any suggestions as to what I should do please?  Please note I am not a technically minded user, so suggestions would have to explain how to carry out the action - not just to do it! (Sorry!)
Thank you in advance.

I have now tried uninstalling Avira and rebooted the machine afterwards for good measure.  I still have the problem.

  • Are you supposed to get e-mail receipts after purchases ?

    Hi all -- I just made an iTunes purchase, are you supposed to get e-mailed a receipt ? Thanks.

    Yes, but sometimes they run late. For example, my last download was on the 18th, I just received the e-mail receipt today.

  • How can I edit the 'from' field at e-mail receipts

    I tried to add my own name in the 'from' field in the section 'e-mail receipts', but the system won't let me edit the field. It always sticks with the standard 'from' name Adobe Forms Central. I have a Plus Subscription package.
    Please advise how to proceed. Thanks.

    Hi,
    To customize the name in the "From" field used for email receipts, you must first select an address other than "[email protected]".

    if not, is there any other way of determining that your sent mail has been read... ?

    Hi John,
    It's going to completely depend on the other end, most people have Return Receipts disabled and you'll hear nothing of your request at all.
    But if you want to request them...

  • MAIL RECEIPT in Mail Package

    Hi,
    Iam using Mail package to send the mail .There is a structure MAILRECEIPT in mail package.How to get the response in the mail structure.
    Do we need to do some settings in Receiver mail adapter to obtain the Receipt ?
    Please help .
    Thanks and Regards,
    Rajesh Naidu

    Hi Rajesh,
    You dont need any extra settings in the Receiver mail adapter for this.
    You have to create Synchronous scenario here. So create a Synchronous Inbount Service Interface and select MAILRECEIPT of mail package for the Response Message Type. By doing this you will get the MAILRECEIPT as response.
    What do you have on the sender side?
    Regards,
    Aravind

  • Why would my respondents not be receiving an e-mail receipt if I indicated that one should be sent?

    E-mail address of respondents is selected and accurate, proper boxes are checked for this process to occur, etc.  I have tested it several times with several different people and they never receive the e-mail.  I have done it myself and it hasn't worked; also had my husband do it.  Everything shows in the response area, but they never receive the receipt.  This is vital for our process (and needed immediately as people are already starting to register).  Help?!

    Would you mind posting a link to your form so we can take a look?
    Thanks,

    I have starred out some details for anonymity. I have other servers with a matching configuration file as above (although on a 2008 version of SSRS) that never have this problem.
    The issue is intermittent and doesn't affect one specific report and on some occasions the retries work however quite often they don't work at all. I have had the network guys here monitor the port to see if the mail is even leaving the server and apparently
    the failed attempts do not register any data in wire shark. I don't believe this to be a size issue with the reports as they aren't supposed to deviate much.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi behavedave,
    According to your description, you have data-driven subscription failure randomly. Right?
    In this scenario, there's nothing wrong on your subscription configuration. Since the issue happens randomly, we can hardly to figure out reason directly. Here are two articles about subscription monitoring and troubleshooting. Please refer to links below:

  • E-mail receipt formatting

    Hi
    I was wondering if it´s possible to format the receipt a responder gets, after filling out and sending a form?
    What we want is that the receipt looks excactly like the actual form, with all the fields (empty ones as well as the filled ones).
    Or at least that the fields that are on a particular line in the form, is also on a single line in the receipt.
    The ultimate would be if a copy of the filled form was sent to the responder as a pdf, that looks like the form.
    Is any of this possible, or is formcentral just not advanced enough???
    Sincerely
    Peter Myrup

    I've been having some problems with mail sent using the p_body_html param. I'm using HTMLDB_MAIL from inside a packaged procedure so that I can take advantage of the queuing/logging that your wonderful team has put in place, however, when using the following I can't ever seem to get the email delivered properly:
    l_email_body :='You can click '||
    'Here';
    htmldb_mail.send(p_to=>'[email protected]',
    p_from=>'[email protected]',
    p_body=>'This is a sample',
    p_body_html=>l_email_body,
    p_subj=>l_email_subject);
    Gives me a message from my mail host such as:
    The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.
    <aismtp1g.XXXXX.com #5.1.1 smtp;550 Requested action not taken: Nonstandard SMTP line terminator.>
    However, almost the same call using utl_mail gives success:
    declare
    l_email_body varchar2(4000);
    begin
    l_email_body:='You can click here '||'Here Utl Mail';
    utl_mail.send('[email protected]','[email protected],null,null,'Some subject',l_email_body,'text/html');
    end;
    I know that I can work around with utl_mail and create my own queueing and logging, but was hoping that I could avoid this with the supplied functionality...
    Am I missing something?
    PS - Some Additional Info:
    I have also tried including <HTML> and <BODY> tags to no avail. Additionally, when I use the same l_email_body variable for p_body and leave p_html_body blank, the text comes through as expected, and I'm able to hit reply, change the format to HTML, send the mail back to myself, and the link works. Also substituting simple tags for the l_email_body (eg. <b>hi</b>)had the same results.
    Thanks for any assistance you may be able to provide

  • Mail receipt

    hello all...or anyone...
    Does anyone know how to get a read reciept when using Mail 2.1.1? i would like to know when people read my email.... thanx!

    Requires a bit of Terminal usage...

    No idea if this still works in Tiger...

    Or you could switch from Mail to Eudora or Thunderbird, both of which have that option! :
    BTW, it's just a Request, there's no guarantee you'll get a Receipt, depends strickly if they're set up to allow Return Receiiiiiiiiiiiiipts!

  • Mail Receipt of sent email

    How can I get a receipt of sent emails in Mail and Leopard?

    If you had used [email protected] you would certainly not get a response!
    Not all email applications pay attention to the receipt request; those that do generally allow the user to decide whether or not to acknowledge receipt. To test whether it is working, open one of your sent messages and view the full headers and see if the disposition notification header is there with your correct email address.

  • Intermittent mail body not loading, just headers

    Recently I started having trouble with the body of messages not loading. Mail will work fine, then all of a sudden it will not load messages body. It doesn't matter if it is mail already on the computer or starting a new message. If it is acting like this and I start a new message, there will be no blinking curser in the body. No access at all to the body, only the Subject, To, From, Etc. but not the body.
    In all cases it is rectified if I Quit Mail and when I relaunch Mail it works fine for hours more. Sometimes it happens each day, sometimes every few days and other times a few times per day. No discernible pattern.
    All input is greatly appreciated.
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
    Since it's intermittent, have you run the Apple Hardware Test CD?
    I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
    After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
    Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
    At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
    The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
    Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!
    Disconnect the USB cable from any UPS so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • How can change view in mail.receipts from Macy look good in iPad and iPhone, but not readable in mail

    I would like to change from Outlook to mail. I recently got an e-mail with a receipt from Macys. It looks good on my iPhone and on my iPad. It looks good on Outlook, but its ugly on mail. Instead of having one compressed picture, the content is widely distributed. I have installed Maverick.

    The reason I asked is because keying all devices synced is exactly what it is all about.
    FYI, You need to use the Mail application, but you do NOT need to use an @me.com account. It support Gmail and other mail servers.

  • Intermittent mail

    For several weeks now, my Mail software has been intermittent.  One day, it downloads fine; on the next, no luck.  I'm running 10.5.8 on a mini, and the mail now goes through the cloud.  I can get at mail by going to the cloud, but that's not a good solution.

    Just to follow on to Yorkie66's post, I too see this on my iPhone 6 Plus and another user with an iPhone 6 both running iOS 8.1. Doesn't matter what the connection type is (WiFi, 3G or 4G) or where the phone is at the time (in office, at home or on a job site), email just doesn't come through. It's only when manually refreshing the mailbox or taking an action on another email does the entire backlog of emails come to the phone. We're running Exchange 2007 (still) and support a very mixed environment of iOS and Android devices along with OSX and Windows and so far it seems only a couple of the iPhones have seen this issue.

  • Intermittent: mail does not download

    Hi,
    I manage around 20 iPhones for our firm, which are a mix of iPhone 6, 5S and 5C. We have an in-house Exchange 2010 server running the latest updates.
    Our heaviest email user receives around 300 emails per day and is often out the office. He currently uses an iPhone 6 (running iOS 8.1). He previously had an iPhone 5C running various versions of iOS 7 and 8.
    Across both device and different iOS versions he regularly has issues where he would check his email, the spinning wheel would show up and the message "connecting..." would appear at the bottom of the mail app but no emails would come in. This could last around 1 hour. During this time he can be either on 3G, 4G or wifi and sometimes moving between these connection types. Eventually, he would turn off his phone, turn it back on again and a flood of unread emails would flow in.
    Typically the pattern is he is returning to the office from being on 3G or 4G and when connecting to wifi the emails would flood in. However, this is not always the case. For example, he just returned to the office, we watched his phone connect to our internal wifi and we waited. After a few minutes, we pulled down in the mail app to refresh it. Waited again but still nothing. So we switched it off and on again, then 10 new emails appeared instantly.
    No other staff appear to have this problem (at least no one has reported it to me).
    Our internal wifi resolves the same public DNS address for our Exchange server as outside (eg when on 3G/4G) so this is not a DNS issue. Besides, others would have the same problem.
    Having the user force quit the app multiple times a day, or reboot, isn't really a solution. Is there anything else I should consider for troubleshooting?
    Thanks.
