Internet blocks and history

I am considering getting a smart phoe for my son.  Is there a way I can monitor his internet history and things like that- just so I know if I need to implement blocks of any sort? I also heard there are apps to hide files and things you search.  Is that true?

what browser do you use?
if Safari, this might be as easy as simply emptying safari's cache (option under Safari menu when safari running)...
cheers

    Hi,
    Sorry for the late response.
Before going further, what’s the operating systems of our server and client?
As far as I know, we have to use customized .adm or .admx file to reset the maximum size of IE cache size.
If our server is Window Server 2003 and client is Windows XP, we can refer to the following thread for the customized .adm file.

  • GPO Disk space to use (8-1024 MB) for Temporary Internet Files and History Settings

I am trying to create a GPO that will allow me to specify 1024 (MB) for Disk space to use to go to IE, the General Tab, Settings,
In the box below there is a box fo Disk space to use.  There is a GPO for this under...
User configuration, windows settings, Internet Explorer Maintenance, (use preferred mode) Corporate Settings, Temporary Internet Files, (I select for the settings) Every visit to the page
Set amount of disk space to use (in MB)
It maxes out at 256 MB  - I tried to manually adjust this but it does not work....
I tried to adjust some equivalent registry entries for under content, cachelimit (decimal) 102400 but it did not work.
Any ideas how to adjust it so that it will allow to use 1024 MB?  I tried just about everything....

  • Browsing history is set to "delete on exit" from Firefox however cookies and history are still listed in Internet Explorer - which I never use. Why??

Firefox is set to delete browsing history on exit. Appears to be working fine. However, if I open Internet Explorer - after closing Firefox - my cookies and history are listed in Internet Explorer. I have to go to Tools >Options> Internet History and delete everything manually. (Internet Explorer is also set to delete history on exit.
Why are my cookies and history being transferred from Firefox to Internet Explorer?

    Thanks cor-el for the reply.
Do not have any MS plugins that I'm aware of. No Silverlight, etc.
How can I tell if Windows Media player is plugged in to FF?
No IE View or IE tab.
Not a major problem because I can go in and delete manually--minor hassle.
Have had the same problem across several FF updates. Just curious why this is happening.

  • How do I get back my bookmarks and history which disappeared after downloading critical Windows Updates?

On 10/16/14 I downloaded 11 critical Windows Updates (I have the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Pro).
All updates ran successfully, but after the updates, Firefox would not run. Instead I got the error “Couldn’t Load XPCOM”. Internet Explorer was working. I reinstalled Firefox . I did not delete it and then reinstall it, I just downloaded Firefox.
That worked and I can now use Firefox, but I have several other problems:
    • I lost all my Bookmarks
    • I lost some of my History. I can only view history for “Today” and “Yesterday” in the Library. I am missing “Last 7 days” (except for 10/16 and later) and “This Month” history view.
I have been trying to research how to fix this on my own for the past several days, even though I am very non-tech savy.
I tried the following, but none of these things has corrected the bookmarks or history problem:
    • I did a System Restore to 10/13/14
    • I tried to do a System Restore to 10/12/14. I got the error “Did not complete successfully. Unspecified error 0x8000ffff”.
    • I reset Firefox to its default state.
    • I tried to change the Privacy setting for Firefox history from “Remember History” to “Use custom setting for history” followed by checking “Remember my browsing and download history”, “Remember search and form history”, and “Accept cookies from site”. I am unable to change this. It always reverts back to “Remember History”.
I located only one Profile Manager, which I found by going through the Windows start menu with "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" –p.
I found "bookmarkbackups" under my Profile Folder. The oldest bookmark folder listed is from 10/16/2014.
Could someone please help me get all my Bookmarks and History back from before the 10/16/2014 updates? Thank you.

Hi askmozilla, yes, the Previous Versions tab in the Properties dialog for the places.sqlite files in the oldest of those folders.
I'm not sure whether Windows can match that file up with earlier restore points once the folder is moved from its original location to the desktop.
I wonder whether there is any way to access the restore point created on 10/16 just before Windows installed the updates. That really would be the best place to look if possible.

  • "Bookmarks and history system will not be functional" with corrupt files found by Avast and websites loading slow ONLY in Firefox

Firefox is the only browser that lets me connect with my microphone. I need to use this feature for an online class. Earlier this evening, the message prompting me to allow or deny the class website permission to use the microphone stopped appearing, and without it the recording won't pick up any sound and I can't record anything.
I tried exiting and restarting Firefox. I had some extensions in use at the time, in particular Session Manager. The allow/deny message still wouldn't appear, so I restarted my computer.
Now when I open Firefox I see the "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional" error message. In addition, the browser loads websites extremely slowly; it takes several minutes to load each page or for me to be able to click on anything (the URL bar, the menus, etc) My other browsers (Internet Explorer and Chrome) are running normally and load websites at a normal speed. I tried downloading the latest version of Firefox but it didn't fix anything. I also tried restarting the computer again but that didn't help either.
I ran my Avast software system check and it turned up that the following files under "C:\Users\(me)\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Irozixj7.default" are "corrupted and unreadable":
    -cookies.sqlite-shm
    -cookies.sqlite-wal
    -localstore.rdf
    -places.sqlite-shm
There was one more problem on the scan, but it probably isn't relevant: for the file "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Definition Updates\{9A2C6FA7-E04E-4819-B86A-8363A9D1E42A}\mpengine.dll" it says "The system cannot find the path specified." When I attempted to follow the path indicated, one of the folders (I can't remember which) said something along the lines of "You can't access this folder, do you want to permanently allow access to this folder?" I said yes and was able to access the folder.
I have tried to add the Places Maintenance extension but the speed is too sluggish to download anything. Trying to access any of the menus results in the browser freezing for several minutes then unfreezing but with the menu still unopened. Therefore none of the solutions found here (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional?esab=a&as=aaq) seem to work.
    My questions are as follows:
-Is it possible to figure out what caused the problem in the first place?
-Is there a way for me to fix it without losing my bookmarks and history?
-How can I avoid this happening again in the future?

First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder. To quickly access this folder:
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Next, keep this folder open, exit Firefox, and try moving the "corrupted and unreadable" files to a different folder. With the exception of localstore.rdf, which stores window positions, toolbar customizations, and other nonessential data, the other files appear to be session-specific files that hopefully are not critical. If you restart Firefox, does it behave more normally?
If not, try creating a fresh Firefox profile. It will have the Flash plugin, which is the control sites usually use to connects your camera and/or microphone, and other plugins, but otherwise will be a new setup. This article has the steps for starting up in the Profile Manager: [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]].
If sites work normally in the new profile, you can import your bookmarks from your old profile, as well as copying over other files that don't seem to be causing the problem. Some trial and error might be required to determine that. This article has some tips: [[Recovering important data from an old profile]].
If the new profile is no better, you can exit Firefox and use the Profile Manager to switch back to your original profile.
    Any improvement?

  • When I click the View option to view a document on my insurance website, I only get a blank screen with words Mozilla Firefox, and below it, "Search Bookmarks and History" in the upper left corner of the screen.

This also happened at a bookseller's website, when I clicked on the photo of a book to enlarge it. Instead of showing me an enlargement, it took me to the same blank screen with the title bar, "Mozilla Firefox", and below it another bar with the words "Search Bookmarks and History," both at the top left of the screen. This has happened repeatedly at the two websites I have mentioned. When I went to the same sites using Internet Explorer, the error didn't occur. I did a Microsoft system restore for a previous restore point, but it still did not eliminate this glitch.

  • Printing Blocks and Bands of Color

Two PC's (2000 & XP), an Officejet 7310 and a TV are connected to a wired ethernet router. Both PC's have been configured to use this printer as their default. It's the only printer connected right now.
This printer had no software disk when I found it. I got the latest drivers from the HP website in the form of "exe" files. The full featured driver failed to install properly on both PCs. I uninstalled that and installed the basic driver on the XP machine first, then on the 2000 PC. On the XP PC the installer failed to create a printer, and as I remember, never asked me any information about drivers or ports to use. I had to use the Add Printer Wizard to create a printer for it on the XP PC. The installer failed to create a printer on the 2000 PC also. The Add Printer Wizard could not find the printer until I marked the printer "shared" on the XP PC. Is that normal?
NOTE: When I tried to install the "full featured" driver software on the 2000 PC there was a warning that my hardware was below the minimum "recommended" level, but according to the HP website, I am well above the "recommended" level. (It is Compaq Deskpro, PentiumIII, 375MB RAM, 2GB free space) No such warning appeared when I installed the "Basic" driver software.
When I attempt to check ink levels with the HP Toolbox on both PC's I get the following error:
"The computer is unable to establish two-way communication with the device."
I uninstalled the printer on the Win2000 PC so that I could record my steps exactly, and I also marked it "Do not share" on the XP PC because this should work (on the 2000 PC) with the XP PC shut down.
Please verify I did this properly: Here's how I recreated the printer in Windows 2000:
Started "Add Printer Wizard" => Next => select "Network Printer" + Next => Next (to browse for a printer) => (none were found) Back => select "Connect to a printer on the Internet or on your Intranet" + enter URL "192.168.0.101" + Next => "Error: could not connect to the printer" + OK => Back => select "Local Printer" + Next => select "Create new port" + "Type: Local port" + Next => Enter port name: "Local TCP" + OK => Manufacturers: "HP" + Printers: "HP Officejet" + Next => (keep existing driver) Next => Printer name: "HP Officejet 7310 on Local TCPIP" + select "Yes" (default) + Next => (do not share) Next => (Yes - print test page) Next => Finish.
    No test page is printed.
Then I opened the Properties for the new printer => select "Ports" tab => Add Port... => select "Standard TCP/IP Port" + New Port... => the "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard" opens => Next => enter IP address "192.168.0.101" + Port name: "Local TCPIP" + Next => (some info, eg. "Protocol: RAW, Port 9100", Adapter type: "Hewlett Packard Jet Direct" {somehow it knew this time}) Finish => Close (Printer Ports dialog) => (new port appears with box checked) Apply => (printer name appears beside new port) => select "General" tab => (features: Color: "No") select "Advanced" tab => Printing Defaults... (it's a very simplistic driver) => Advanced... => (no options to control color) Cancel => Cancel => (Driver: "HP Officejet") select "HP Officejet 7300 series" in driver drop-down list + Apply => Select "General" tab => (Features: Color: "Yes") Print Test Page => (the windows logo is printed in color, but the text below says "Color support: No") select "Advanced" tab => Printing Defaults... => (sophisticated driver appears) select "Color" tab => remove check from "Print in grayscale" + OK => select "General" tab => Print Test Page => (test page looks good, says I now have color support) OK.
But still I get color blocks and bands on some pages when printing from Word, and I think on all AutoCAD plots when plotting through the system printer (which will have to be setup again in the Plotter Manager).
I also still get the same error trying to check ink levels.
What am I doing wrong? Shouldn't the installer have created the printer with all parameters properly set?

HPPSdr.exe says "Everything checks out okay with your product."  The test page prints OK.
I also found the HP Hardware Diagnostic Utility 4.1, and it says "We're sorry, but the HP Officejet 7300 series is not currently supported by this utility."
The problem seems to be getting more prevalent and more extreme, sometimes printing solid black, off the edge of the page too, with some blocks of color mixed in.  This is occuring from two computers (Compaq and Dell) with different operating systems (2000 and XP) and different versions of Microsoft Word (2000 and 2003).
    What next?

And IF you can call as I HAVE MASSIVE Memory Problems because of a Brain infection I HAD in Jan. 2010.
    PLEASE Call me to Help.
    Wade, Oklahoma USA xxx-xxx-xxxx
    Thank YOU!

Wade, there is a way "undo" the Refresh but it does have a lot of steps. See whether you can do this on your own.
As you may have noticed, the Refresh/Reset feature copies your settings (profile) folder to the desktop into a folder named "Old Firefox Data".
Check inside "Old Firefox Data" folder for a folder with a semi-randomized name. If there's only one, that probably has your old settings and add-ons. If there's more than one, you'll want to work with the one that was updated most recently.
Once you have identified the profile folder you want to restore, here is my suggested "old profile resurrection procedure":
    '''Overview'''
These are the steps that are covered in more detail in the rest of this post:
    # Create a new Firefox profile
    # Remove everything from that new profile folder
    # Copy in everything from the old profile folder
'''Create a new Firefox profile (Windows)'''
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager by pasting the following into the Start menu search box, or the Start > Run dialog, and pressing Enter:
    firefox.exe -P
''Note: Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.''
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like OldSettings, and skip the option to change the folder location. Then select that new profile in the dialog and start Firefox.
'''Open the New Profile folder in Windows Explorer'''
Firefox in the new profile should look like a factory fresh installation. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table, click the "Show Folder" button. Firefox will launch your brand new profile folder in Windows Explorer.
Leaving that folder open, switch back to Firefox, and Exit. When Firefox closes, the profile folder should be front and center, or you can activate it using the Task bar.
'''Copy Old Data in Place of New'''
In that new profile folder, select all the contents and delete.
Leaving that window open, open or switch over to your Old Firefox Data folder. Drill down into your old profile folder. At this level you should see a folder named bookmarkbackups among other things.
Select everything (Ctrl+a) and Copy (either right-click > Copy or Ctrl+c).
Switch to the empty new profile folder in other window and Paste (either right-click > Paste or Ctrl+v). This may take a minute since some of the files are large.
    '''Start Firefox'''
Firefox should start up in that new profile with the resurrected old profile data. Success?

  • Connected to internet - IE and Firefox wont work

I am connected to the internet, Safari and MSN work.  When I try to get on FireFox or IE it says my connection is being interrupted.  I had just downloaded Microsoft Office, and the problems started after that.
I checked my firewall to see if that was the problem, but it is not even enabled.
Any suggestions on what is blocking these two programs?

    Hello daroberts02!
I just want to remind everyone to either purchase Microsoft Office software in the box or download from Microsoft.com.  Downloading from any other source puts your system at grave risk for malware infection and is likely non-licensed or pirated software.
daroberts02, if you are using Microsoft XP or Vista operating system (OS) you can try using Windows System Restore if enabled on your computer (Start> Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore) to perform a system roll back before your download.   Otherwise, if you would like convenient options for a resolution, call 1-800-GEEKSQUAD, chat with an Agent on GeekSquad.com or locate a Geek Squad® Precinct near you.  Let us know how we can be helpful!

  • When I sign out of my bank account, Firefox says its blocked and I have to close the browser, why?

I clicked sign out from my bank account, and a message came up that my account has been blocked, and I am requested to close my browser. Once I received an error message.
    ID Code:c967ecee-285b-4a1c-85fe-3f5cfdaaafdd
This has happened several time now!
Can you help me solve this problem?

It depends on how paranoid you are.
There is a theoretical risk that a site in another tab or window could read through the history of your banking session and extract information, but that probably is very rare.
You definitely want to close the browser before leaving the PC available to another person.

  • Blocked Invoice history reporting

Hi Folks, We are currently in the process of moving to Central AP processing and a report on the history of the invoice blocking reasons is required. Our ABAPer is using the CDHDR and CDPOS as source but we have found that any invoice, manually blocked and then manually released without deleting the blocking reason does not create a record in CDHDR /CDPOS.
As there is no blocking reason delete option for processing a manual payment block it appears that there is no way of recording this history.
    Can anybody help?

Can you try running Create Accounting For payments just before you run the Invoice History Report and re-check .
    Thanks

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.
*You can inspect and manage all permissions on the about:permissions page, via the location bar.
*Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
*Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
*Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
*Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).
If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.
Make sure that you do not block third-party images permissions.default.images
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Images_or_animations_do_not_load
There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images.
