Internet flinches every 2 hours.

I've had an actiontec MI424-WR F for a while now, and the entire time I've had it the internet (without showing any signs in windows 7 or the router's status lights) will stop for an extremely short amount of time every 1.5-2.5 hours, just long enough to disrupt everything internet-related I'm doing.
I noticed the dhcp lease was 2 hours and that it was at 119 minutes immediately after one of these flinches occurred, but there seems to be no way to screw with it in the router's admin control. I'm pretty sure that it's doing this every time the lease is renewed.
So what do I do?

New jersey, so I suppose that means no westell.
It's been doing this since day 1 I got it. I doubt something this new was faulty the instant it came out of the box, so I'm a bit skeptical on the quality of this type of router.

  • Losing internet service every 2 hours

I've been having trouble with this ever since I got my FiOS installed.. It seems that every 2 hours on the dot, my connection drops for roughly 20 seconds and disconnects me from anything that I'm connected to. It appears to be caused by the router renewing the DHCP lease every 120 minutes.. Is there anyway I can prevent the router from disconnection from the internet when it tries to renew the DHCP?

hey otter, i had the same issue that you did with the router, very frustrating ...
what worked for me, and allowed me to maintain a stable connection was disabling uPnP on the router ... it was conflicting with some of my peripherals (router would DC when i would scan docs to the computer, etc) ...
    hope this helps!

  • Verizon is billing me for data I simply DID NOT USE - huge unexplainable usage every 6 hours - and no one can explain it

My wife and I both had iphone 4S' on verizon for years with no issues.  My wife recently upgraded to an Iphone 5c and ever since her data usage has gone through the roof.  After talking wtih Apple and Verizon countless times and getting no answers, im reaching out to the community.
The issue is very VERY obvious in that our detail usage breakdown shows my wife being charged for some data usage every 6 hours for stuff she never did.  And, to make matters worse, my wife is home most of the time connected to wifi!   I don't know what it is, but something, somewhere, which on one can explain, is generating huge amounts of data usage on my wife's iphone 5c ( my phone is fine ).  I will attach a sample picture below which shows just one or two days of this, but this happens every dingle day.
I want to upgrade my phone and actually get a third line, but im scared to hit this issue on two more phones.  I dont know whats going on here and why no one can give me a straight answer.  As far as im concerned verizon is scamming us by injecting this usage and hitting people with overages.
    Some points:
         - random usage on a clear 6 hour cycle
         - some of the usage is clearly in the middle of the night when we're asleep
         - MOST of the usage is when the phone is home connected to wifi
         - we have turned off background refresh
         - we reset cell data usage in settings and viewed it the next day, it did NOT show the usage verizon is charging me for
I've seen other posts here and on apple discussion forums with other people having the same exact issue! I want ANSWERS or im going to have to cancel my contract and move to AT&T, which I would really hate to do because other than this verizon has been great!  I've also seen some people mention that verizon polls for usage data every 6 hours, can there be some bug there that is making it use WAAAY more data than needed? ( perhaps an intentional revenue generating bug...??? )
    Please HELP!
    Thanks

    USAGE:

Hi .... I to have ridiculous charges...I went into verizon tonight and talked to a manager about my data usage which is **...I just got the iphone 5c on Saturday......I showed him how the phone says I used data while wifi and cellular data was TURNED OFF.....we reset  my data to 0 and he watched me turn on cellular data and I went into my APPADVISOR app ....it is a clean app which uses minimal data compared to the internet...I was in the app 10 seconds and I got out quick and made sure the app was no longer running in the background.....we watched me get charged for 6mb of data in 10 seconds which was not only in my settings , but reflected real time in my verizon app that checks my data usage which is what my billing is based on
...I have unlimited talk, text with my 4gig of data sharing I have with my wife that we pay 70 bucks per phone a month........he then watched me text my brother on iMessage and get charged 16kb....I message should be free of data....we then went to ESPN for another counted 10 seconds and I got charged 4.8 MB.....the manager was dumbfounded by me showing this to him in real time......he stated the following which I hope is not a lie:
APPLE AND VERIZON ARE AWARE AND BEING FLOODED WITH DATA USAGE ISSUES WHICH SEEM TO BE REFLECTING SPIKED DATA CHARGES FOR THE IPHONE 5c and 5s ONLY.......APPLE IS COMING OUT WITH IOS 7.0.5 in the next week to fix these issues.....he gave me his card and he took my information and said if in this billing cycle I go over 4 gig of data, he will eat the overage fee.....we shall see what all transpires in the coming weeks but there is something jacked on apples or Verizon's end with the 5c and 5s phones...

  • My Mac Mini loses wifi connectivity once every other hour...

I noticed last night that web pages in Safari weren't loading at all, and that my Internet kept disconnecting me every couple of minutes.  I restarted Time Capsule thinking it was the culprit.  A few minutes later, the same symptoms persisted.  This time, I simply turned Mac Mini wifi off and on, and that seemed to temporarily work each time.  So that led me to believe that Time Capsule was fine, and that something was happened to my Mac Mini that required me to disconnect and reconnect to the network.  Today, I've purposely been streaming music from the web to see how long it takes to lose signal.  It hasn't been every few minues like last night.  However, it's been just about every two hours.  I turn the Mac Mini wifi off then on - and it's fixed.  So what might be causing this?  I will say the Internet speed is great when it works.  But it's either there - or it isn't.
    Thank you!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Radio streaming stops every half hour or so.

I stream a radio station. However it stops every half hour or so. How can I keep it going? Internet speed is down 80 and up 9 megabits.

Well, I don't know if you actually read my post, but I've already upgraded the firmware and power cycled it. Those setting are at their defaults: 100 for beacon interval, 2346 for frag thresh, and 2432 for RTS thresh. But, I did change them to the provided numbers yesterday; no change.
Let me provide some more info. I also share my wireless internet connection on my laptop and hook up my Xbox 360 to it. Also, the router is three years old. Is it normal after this time frame for it to start malfunctioning? Should we go out and get a new one? I'm talking purely by hardware lifespan right now, we don't need a new one just because it has some more bells and whistles; the one we have now has worked well up until now.
    Thanks again.

  • WRVS4400N needs to be rebooted every 24 hours

I have the latest firmware and I have reset to factory defaults but I still need to reboot the router every 24 hours. Can anyone help?

Useful info.. Is it possible to change the MTU size on the WRVS4400N?  I rolled back from 1.01.03 to firmware 1.00.16 to see if it makes a difference, however I don't see any MTU settings.  It's possible there are MTU settings in 1.01.03.  There is major difference in the web admin screen between the two.  1.01.03 introduces a more detailed way of seeing what's connected to the WRVS4400N as well as handling Diffserv instead of just ToS/CoS.  There are a few other things to..
Anyway, if 1.00.16 doesn't resolve my issue then I'll jump back to 1.01.03 and see if there are MTU settings.  BTW, I just disabled UPnP after reading your message.  Hopefully that helps too.
The odd ting is, I have a Buffalo Wiress N router and never had a single issue.  I got the Linksys for my "lab" environment where I'm doing a lot of VoIP testing.  The other Linksys products (PoE switches, WET200 wireless bridge, SPA-9000 and SPA phones) all work great. The router is the only one giving me odd behaviour.
    Thanks,
    -d
EDIT: It looks like I found the MTU.  It's not labeled MTU though.  On the "L2Switch" tab there is a selection for "Port Settings" and there is a default entry for "MaxFrame" of 1518.  If my hosts get locked up from the Internet again, I'll change the MaxFrame to your suggested size.  Since I just rolled back to 1.00.16 I want to see if the issue occurs before making the MaxFrame change.

  • EA6500 reboots every few hours

Hi, I got my new comcast connection and using CISCO DPC3008 cable modem and EA6500 Wifi Smart Router. Internet works fine and then suddently the internet goes away. Further investigation shows EA6500 Wifi router just reboots every few hours and then wifi devices don't reconnect like it used to do with previous routers.
Any idea what is wrong? Have the latest firmware. Reset multiple times.

    Hi,
Is there a specific time when the router reboots? This performance seems weird and there's no way for most of us - the end users to check what causes the reboot. Anyways, you can try to set static channels on both 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz bands. For the 2.4Ghz - set it to channel 9 - 2.452 Ghz and for the 5Ghz band, set it to 153 - 5.765 Ghz.
This is based from  an observation on my friend's N450 Belkin Router - got so curious of it's "self healing" feature. Based on observation, self healing will just re-initialize the router based on the specific time that had been set and it will cycle through other available wireless channel. So, to avoid re-initialization, we can try setting a static wireless channel on EA6500.
If everyone needs to believe in something, I believe I'll have another beer..

  • WRT160N Hangs every few hours

Router periodically hangs. Cannot access though the Ethernet Cable or via wireless. Apprears to be happening after repowering every few hours. Really annoying. Anybody experiencing this?

Your router needs to be Upgraded...Download the firmware from here
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device: -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...
Then, unplug the power cable while holding down the reset button for another 30 Seconds...
Plug the power cable back in, and keep holding down the reset button for another 30 Seconds...
Release the reset button...Now re-configure your router...

  • Error 200279 once every 24 hours (SignalExpress)

I am using the cDAQ 9174, with SignalExpress 2014, version 14.0.0, and the following modules: 9229, 9211, 9482.
The program runs fine, except every 24 hours I receive error 200279. Please see event log in the attachment. I opened task manager and waited for the error event to occur, but did not see any application popup that may explain the error.
The computer is not connected to the internet.
The computer has 24 GB of RAM.
Any thoughts as to why I receive this quite predictable error?

    Hi darylt,
Try setting less amount of samples to read, a less rate an maybe logging a little faster. Have you tried something like this? In this link, you should be able to understand a little better the meaning of each of the options.

  • HT1218 Airport Time Capsule losing internet connection after 3 hours

I just got a Time Capsule and my internet connection seems to time out after 3 hours or so.  My macbook/iphones/ipad seem to still connect to the internet but there is no internet connection.  The only fix seems to be unplugging the modem every 3 hours.  I think I have the most updated systems on everything.  Does anyone know what I need to do?

  • Automatically switch user every 2 hours

    Hi my name is Khari
I'm wondering if someone will help me create a script in .bat to Automatically go to the
switch users screen every 2 hours but before it does so, it ask me for a pin number to keep it from going to the switch users screen.

This is well beyond the scope of both, this forum and simpla bat script file. Try to first search internet including MS Script center and then, if you find nothing appropriate, place the task in MSDN forum. My advice is: Do not narrow the task to simpla
bat file. It will be a service running in background.

  • Load average peaks every ~3 hours

Hi all. I have a quick question, which should be easy to solve, but I haven't been able to yet.
Approximately every 3.2 hours (the period is very regular, and a bit more than 3 hours), the load average on my XServe climbs up to 1.0, stays there for a few minutes, then falls back down to its average level (normally less than 0.1). (I've graphed it out which is why I know it's so regular). But I haven't for the life of me been able to figure out what's doing this. When it spikes up like that, 'top' still shows a relatively idle CPU (~95% idle), 'ps alx' shows only the 'ps' command itself having an 'R' STAT flag, and 'sudo fs_usage' shows periodic bits of activity, but nothing crazy. How can I find out what's going on? I know that a load average of 1.0 isn't all that high and the server still feels responsive during these spikes, but it should be mostly idling closer to 0.0. I want to make sure that if something is starting to bog down the server that I nip it in the bud before it starts to become a real issue.
Any advice on what might be causing this, or what I can use to figure out what's contributing to the load average during these times?
    Thanks!
    Dan

Good point about Remote Desktop and Chicken of the
VNC. When the server was originally set up remotely
several years ago, I didn't have a fast enough
Internet connection to make remote GUI concepts like
those practical at all (ever try running them through
dialup?), so I quickly became a fan of the command
I already had an ADSL line when I discovered VNC, but if anyone rmembers Timbuctu..
It was a commercial program that did the same thing as VNC, but with a different approach.
I used it with a 14400 baud modem under System 7.5. I could see the menus drawing themselves... =:-|
line. Perhaps I should revisit it now that I have a
broadband connection, but Mac user though I am, I've
always been a Unix command line guy at heart
    Good. It helps a lot.
I'm still descovering some new unix conterpart of many of the system GUI programs.
And as far as the cron jobs go, according to the
various files in /var/cron/tabs, I have a few entries
that are set to run at specific times per day, but
nothing of a periodic nature of every few hours. And
the strange thing is that it isn't periodic by an
integer number of hours - it's periodic by a bit over
3 hours. From the graphs I've made of load average,
its periodicity is very close to 3.2 hours. I also
    Hmm.. You're right.
cron is scheduling jobs by the hour, minutes, etc, but not a mix of them. Unless its scheduled every 200 minuts (or so).
checked with 'ps aux' and there don't seem to be any
hung processes or something that's been running for
an inordinate amount of time, other than those
processes which started when the server was
    originally booted.
The server has been running since July 28, 2006 (297
days) and only recently (within the past week or so)
started to exhibit this behavior as far as I know.
Hmm.. This could point to some system update..
No processes are currently running with an abnormal
amount of CPU time taken - currently, the lead is
pretty much a tie between 'hwmond' and 'configd',
with about 2700 minutes each. This works out to
about 9 minutes/day, so it doesn't seem too bad to
    me.
I know, I could just reboot the machine and see if
the problem goes away. But there are two main
reasons I haven't done so. First, I really want to
know what's happening, and even if rebooting the
machine does fix the problem, I won't have learned
anything from it and there would be nothing to
prevent this from happening again. And secondly, I
    Holy words. You're **** right.
had a bad experience once where rebooting the machine
remotely didn't run smoothly - for some reason, the
primary hard drive didn't spin up quick enough to be
recognized, and it booted into its secondary recovery
hard drive, which didn't enable me any kind of remote
access to the machine... so it meant several hours of
downtime while I drove to the XServe's location to
manually restart it again. The box's availability is
critical to a business' operations, so I don't want
to risk the possibility of downtime unless all else
    fails.
Ok. Sorry I could be of no help anymore, but it's difficult to understand sitting in front of a (far away) screen.
This seem one of those "Sherlock Holmes" cases.. You need to take everything into account and if all fails what remains, though unlikely, is the truth.

  • WRT55AG loses connection every 48 hours

Apologies if the post is too long...
I've had this router practically since it came out on the market. An IT person set the router up for me, but he and I are no longer in contact, and I've been having this problem for quite some time.
I have a laptop that uses either an Ethernet or a Wireless connection and a desktop that uses an Ethernet connection. All Ethernets go through a hub that connects to the router. The router connects to my Comcast cable modem (Scientific Atlanta.)
About every 48 hours or so, neither computer can connect to the internet. (So it's not a "wired" vs. "wireless" problem.) Releasing and renewing the IP addresses doesn't solve this problem; in fact, the only thing that has worked has been to unplug the router for 30 seconds or so, then reconnect. Then I have to reboot both computers.
I've gotten used to doing this, but my husband hates this and thinks there's "something that I've done" that's screwed up the settings. I just got done chatting with the Linksys live chat folks, and everything is configured just the way they say to. (I checked twice.) I've also tested every individual component (modem only; hub and modem; router and modem; all three together) and everything works.
I thought that perhaps Comcast was preventing us from leasing an IP address for more than 48 hours (and it's almost always exactly 48 hours), but my dad has the exact same setup (EXCEPT that he has a netgear router instead of linksys) and he's never once had this problem.
Any ideas on how I can avoid unplugging and rebooting every two days?

U can will need to upgrade the firmware for the router ....n then reset n reconfigure it .........then it should be up n running !
