Internet in the background

Hi Gents,
I'm about to build an application using a third party company, i want my application to stay connected to the internet to send some information all the time even if the application has been minimized to the background.
the application will send GPS location information to my server, and it should send that all the time even from the background.
most suppliers are telling it is not possible as if the application is minimized it will lose the internet connection until it is active again, is that right?
Thanks in advance.

accept my apologies pls!
No problem. I'm just pointing it out. My wife is always annoyed at the generic use of "guys". She has short hair and I have long hair. A server recently called us "ladies" and then profusely apologized to me. He then immediately switched to "guys" but felt no apology was necessary for that.
you are right about the other applications and that it seems it is possible, however, most of the fellas in the development companies say it can't be, that's why i needed a definite answer about this.
Unfortunately, I don't know for certain because I haven't done it. I'm about 90% sure that it can be done. Apple even has developer documentation explicity describing how to do it. Look at the section under "Tracking a user's location".
I am very uneasy about the idea of "fellas in the development companies". I really don't like the idea of farming out development work to 3rd parties. You risk losing all control and getting ripped off. App development is like the wild west. There are a lot of dishonest and/or incompetent people because of the money involved. I was able to track down information in seconds that contradicts these "development companies". One of the questions I would ask you is why "Find my phone" isn't sufficient. I would think it should be possible to do something that the phone already implements out of the box.
now about my application, the application is a GPS tracking application, real time and 24/7, this is my business as I'm providing security services in conflict areas, where any thing can happen ( kidnapping...etc) and my clients themselves are asking for that.
you said I need to make a rock-solid case...for whom? do I need to get a permission from Apple to have a kind of signature or autherization to keep my app connected all the time like skype and facebook?
Yes. It will have to be approved by Apple. Apple takes a very dim view of apps that consume too much battery power or bandwidth and especially anything that tracks the user. It certainly sounds like you have a strong case. The problem is apps that consume too much power and bandwidth as a side effect that the user doesn't know about until later. As long as your are up front about the system requirements and the fact that the goal of the app is to track the user, then I would expect it to be fine. Of course, I'm not Apple, so no guarantees.

  • Question about setting the background from an image over the internet.

    Hello ,
    If I want the background of my panel to be set from an image over the internet directly do I just add that URL right away like this :
    protected final static String imagePath = "http://www.engr.wisc.edu/2010/background.jpg";
       icon = new ImageIcon(AuthScreen.imagePath);
            JPanel panel = new JPanel(){
                protected void paintComponent(Graphics g)
              Dimension d = getSize();
              g.drawImage(icon.getImage(), 0, 0, d.width, d.height, null);
              super.paintComponent(g);
              };instead of this :
    protected final static String imagePath = "d:\\javaapps\\bg.jpg";cuz I did that but it isnt working .

    If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains (e,g, sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net).
    *Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
    *Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
    *Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
    *Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).
    If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.
    Make sure that you do not block third-party images, the permissions.default.images pref should be 1.

    There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images.
    Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Accessibility settings.

    my macpro runs slow with or without internet on..... How can I find out if something is running in the background?

    Please boot in safe mode and test. Still slow? If you connect to a wireless network, you may have to connect with Ethernet in safe mode.
    After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode.)

  • Does Safari use up bandwidth if I leave it running in the background with zero tabs open?  Do I have to quit the application each time I am done to avoid exceeding my internet usage/host quota?

    If I leave Safari running in the background with zero tabs open, does it still use up bandwidth?  Do I have to quit the application each time I am done to avoid exceeding my internet usage/host quota?  I'd rather not have to since quitting the application and restarting it when I need to will quickly become tedious, but if that saves me on bandwidth usage, I'll do it.  Thanks!

  • Good evening, How can I check if there are downloaling programs running in the background while using an IPod. I want to eliminate them because my internet dowload volume has increased dramatically.

    How can I check if I have a software(s) installed on my Ipod touch (4th generation) that download information all the time in the background? My internet downlaod consumption has increased dramatically lately and I cannot solve the problem. An online support person from my internet provider suggested to check that out.
    Thanks for your¸help.

    HI northangel,
    you can press the home button double times and the bottom of the screen and it will show apps that are running in the backround.

  • Yosemite OS is consuming too much internet data in the background

    Yosemite OS is consuming too much internet data in the background for no apparent reason. It's draining my monthly internet quota. It's important to note that iCloud Drive and photo stream are disabled. Anyone knows how to sove this problem? Otherwise, if there's no solution I think I'll downgrade to Mavericks.

    I'm wondering if you ever resolved this issue. My internet access is via satellite with highly allocated data usage. Ever since updating to Yosemite, my usage has gone through the roof. I've disable automatic downloads and any settings (including iCloud photo stream) that might receive or send data, plus I never use Spotlight. Data usage goes to zero when I shut off WiFi, so it seems obvious that something running in the background is the culprit. Apple is looking into this, with no results so far - meanwhile, I've lost hours of time playing detective, and hoping my ISP won't cut me off. No fun!
    Thanks for any ideas you have...

    don't worry, it's normal and it will fade away by itself. If not, take it to your apple store

  • If Safari or internet apps are running in the "background..."

    Are they still going using data? I'm a new member on a 2GB a month plan. Most of the time I'm on wifi, but not always. I've been being careful to turn them off if I'm not on wifi, but how careful do I have to be? I don't really know much about this.
    Btw, what is a quick way to turn my apps off? The double click method on the circle and then hold a button until the minus button comes up and turn them off that way or is there a quicker way?

    Very few apps run in the background - mainly music playing apps and GPS apps.  Double-clicking the Home button gives you a list of previously used apps, not (as so many people believe) "running" apps.  You can delete the apps from the list if you wish, but it will make no difference to energy usage (unless they actually are running, as in the categories above. You should know if you are using GPS or if you can hear music).

    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the block elements. The elements within these blocks have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the block itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the block element and place a second block element within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.
    2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward (for example: a right margin on a block set to float right). Many times, padding can be used instead. For blocks where this rule must be broken, you should add a "display:inline" declaration to the block element's rule to tame a bug where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
    3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar blocks could be stacked if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
    4) If you prefer your nav on the left instead of the right, simply float these columns the opposite direction (all left instead of all right) and they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the blocks around in the HTML source.

    I am not sure what's happening with IE9 (no live site) but I had real problems viewing your code in Live View - until I removed the HTML comment marked below. Basically your site was viewable in Design View but as soon a I hit Live view, it disappeared - much like IE9. See if removing the comment solves your issue.

  • I am using a Hughes Satellite and I am having a problem with using all my bandwidth without even using my computer.  Is there a way to shut things off that I don't need running all the time in the background.

    I am using Hughes satellie for my internet provider.  I am having a problem using all my bandwidth each day.  Is there a way from using this bandwidth.  I am using even when I am not using my computer.  Is there a way to turn off things that are running in the background.

    It depends a lot on what you have installed and what apps you run. Here's a suggestion:  Get Little Snitch and see what processes are accessing your internet connection.

  • In iTunes, my printing is white and the background is black, How do I change it back to white printing on a black background.

    In my iTunes store, the printing is white and the background is black and I have forgotten how to change it back to black printing on a white background? I know that it is a simple answer, but right now I cannot think of it.
    Also, what is the "other" when you are syncing an ipad in itunes and in my case the other is more than half of my 64Gb. How do I find out what it is and then get rid of it if I want to?
    Thanks

    Hi gramie47,
    Sorry to hear that didn't resolve the issue.
    I checked online for issues printing from the Internet, found a couple of things you can try. Most likely it is a setting that needs to be changed in the browser settings, since the printer prints fine from the computer.
    From Internet Explorer, go to File, Page setup, Remove check from "Printer background color and images" if checked, or vise versa, to see if that helps.
    Here is another document you may take a look at.
    Map Images May Not Print Properly When Using Internet Explorer.
    If you continue to have issues, contact your Internet Provider for further assistance.
    Thank You.

  • My iPad 2 screen has turned a weird colour. The background is black and the letters are white instead of the other way round and colour photos look like negatives. How do I change it back.

    My IPad screen has turned a weird colour, the background is white and the letters white instead of the other way round.  Colour photos look like negatives. How can I turn it back to a white background.

    Dear Steve,
    You are wonderful! You are the best! I'm Stephania and I recently purchased a refurbished ipad2. I've had it for about 3 weeks now and updating & fixing it so my liking. The only thing that I couldn't correct were the photos that looked like negatives. Every photo, even on the internet, on apps, everywhere! I just couldn't figure out how to fix it. I contacted Apple Care and its too difficult to get in touch with them. I had looked through support before but didn't put in the right question. Well, today I got lucky. I did the two things you suggested and turning the "White On Black" off did the trick. I'm so happy! I had a feeling it was something simple and this is not even in the manual!

  • Slow WiFi on iOS 8? An app running in the background might be the problem

    I've discovered a problem with Angry Birds Friends on my iPhone 6. When I am connected to my wifi, the app does not load. The log-in status bar gets about 3/4 of the way across but doesn't complete. If I hit the home button to "close" the app and try to do anything else on my iPhone that connects to the internet, they don't connect or the speed is REALLY slow. In fact, when I run a speedtest, my download speeds which are normally at about 23 MBPS drop down to a mere .5 MBPS. If I open the multitask bar and quit the app from there, my download speeds go back to normal. I have also verified the same behavior on my iPad Air. So it seems Angry Birds Friends is having some sort of wifi connectivity issue that impacts the wifi even when I'm not in it. It is possible that other apps might cause similar problems by running some sort of activity in the background that impacts wifi connectivity. I can consistently recreate this behavior with this app and contacted Apple support today to report it. In fact they put me in touch with a senior person and I provided them with the details. I'm waiting to hear back from him after he contacts their engineering team.

    I have exactly the same problem with Angry Birds Friends, I have a two year old iPhone 5 running the latest iOS, the app loads perfectly when on the mobile network but freezes 3/4 of the way through loading on wifi, I have used other people's wifi and experience the same issue. I haven't reported it like you, but it is very weird.

    Hi
    The fact you are using a Mac is why both myself and JCellini assumed you where using a pre IE7 version.
    But the code you are using to test in IE will cause a problem with any 'virtual machine' such as crossover, because it cannot reference anything outside its own assigned section of the drive, and referencing the png in the way you are would be for it an invalid reference, it also would not work in any browser when you uploaded the site.
    Change - background-image:url(file:///Macintosh  HD/Users/myname/Documents/websites/test/Test/images/test_back.png);
    To - background-image:url(images/test_back.png);
    But if the region is not editable I would suggest you temporarily make it so, externalize your css to a css file, insert a link to the external css file in your head content, then lock the region once again. This way you will always be able to edit your css without worrying about 'locked regions'.
