Internet Just Stopped Working

I have an Intel Core 2 Duo iMac and cannot for the life of me get the internet to work. It just randomly stopped working and the only website I can get to load is Google. Other than that I get "You are not connected to the internet" even though under System Prefs it says my internet connection is active. I connect directly to my Motorola cable modem via ethernet and everyone else I know isn't having any problems with the service. Although this whole mess did start Friday night when they had some scheduled maintenance on the network. I am on my HP notebook currently and the internet is working fine. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for all the help everybody! BDAqua, your method worked. I couldn't get the IP address to display Apple.com but after putting the others in the DNS Servers field under System Preferences my internet began working flawlessly. I actually had tried power cycling my Mac and modem several times, Mac_Robban.
Thanks again!

  • Internet just stops working

The internet access on my G5 running OS 10.5.8, will just shutdown not allowing any income out outgoing messages. To fix the problem I go to the firewall preference and open it for all incoming connection. Wait for a bit and the internet starts working. After the internet is working I reset t he firewall back “access for specific services” setting until the problem happens again. I have looked through the different console logs hoping I can find some clue to the problem. Any help trouble shooting the problem would be great.

Try SysPref/Network/ethernet(I assume)/Advanced/Renew DHCP Lease(another assumption). I had to do this, this am because of who knows why it jumped settings.

  • Airport just stopped working

    Hi Everyone,
I hopw someone has some info that might help.
I have a MacBook and PC (yuck). Both just stopped working with my Airport Extreme, and when I tried plugging the ethernet cable directly into both, nothing happened. No data was transferring.
I called my cable company and they were able to get my PC working, directly connected, but not the MacBook.
When the ethernet cable is plugged directly into the MacBook, nothing happens...no lights showing it's connected to the computer. When I connect the ethernet cable to the Airport, everything lights up, showing a connection, but I can't get the data to transfer from Airport to MacBook (or PC for that matter).
Right now, I'm hijacking someone else's wireless signal in my condo...don't really know who. So, I know my Airport card is working properly.
The tech at Brighthouse cable saod something about earthlink customers having trouble recently because of something that earthlink downloaded to them, where IP addresses wouldn't renew. I never downloaded anything, is this possible?
I'm really stumped, and frustrated because I can't connect, and it's not feasible for me to hardwire in due to the location of my cable modem. Plus, that only works with the crappy PC, and I don't want to use that.
Please, someone help...I'm desperate...and at a loss for what the problem could be!
    Thank you!!!!
EDIT: I just powered up my old iBook G4, and it won't connect to my base station either
EDIT X2: I should probably add what I have already tried...I have (several times) unplugged the cable modem and Airport base station. Used Airport set up to re-set it (again, several times).

    Ok MCOJerry,
    Here's the scoop.
My friend called and gave me the story much like you described. Almost identical in fact.
He had called TimeWarner, who didn't come to any resolution and then referred him to Earthlink, washing their hands in the process.
A over seas tech support then spend a couple of hours, then made a call back with another tech. who also spent significant time on the phone. This time the tech reconfigured OSX a couple of times. Set up alternate location profiles, changed the DNS settings etc.
They re-assigned the IP address and forced the cable modem to init. the MAC address list. They also disconnected the Airport Extreme (the square version) connected the mac directly to the modem and forced a manual set of IP settings.
They got the mac to work with this last configuration, but of course the rest of the machines were out of luck as was the network printer.
All in all he spent six hours on the phone.
When I got 'the call' I had him give me some preliminary network stats and then had him reconnect the Airport Extreme. This yielded a dead internet connection.
So as I wrote earlier, I went over there armed with a boat load of tools & cables.
I reconfigured the mac to a normal & stable automatic type configuration. I also reset the the Airport buy pressing the reset button for 5sec. Then set up a new configuration. I made sure that the latest update was applied to the Airport extreme.
Then I logged on to the cable modem. Don't mis-understand, I did not log on to the internet through the modem. I logged on to the modem's internal web server. checked some logs and ran a couple of tests.
Then I found the problem. The real problem: The signal power level from the point of demarcation (at the pole) was so low as to be useless. Eliminating the Airport Extreme, simply removed a level of complication in the system. It also may have removed some spurious RF that may have been introduced into the network. It did not result in a resolution to the real problem.
The cable line needs to be physically repaired. Either a wet connection or a frayed shield or the line needs a booster. But the problem, which looked like a Airport extreme issue is in fact a bad cable line.
I do have him up and running on the Airport Extreme at this moment by eliminating all extraneous length from his cable line within the house. The cable modem is now located in the basement where the cable enters the house. I have an single ethernet cable running from there to the Airport Extreme. I pulled all the other electrical items from this particular power line branch (This specific circuit.) This is all temporary until the cable guy/gal arrives to fix the problem.
I hope this may help you in your trouble resolution.

  • Airport Extreme 7.6.1 WiFi just stopped working, HELP!

    Hi all,
not sure what is going on, but my Airport Extreme running 7.6.1 just stopped working over wifi. My desktop PC is wired to the Airport and it is running fine on the internet. My iOS devices, however (iPhone 4 and iPad 1) just won't work over wifi. My wife's blackberry is also not working over wifi.
I am running AirPort utility on the iPad and it can find and manage the AirPort base, but it says internet is not working (orange dot) which is not true, as I am typing this post on the PC wired to the AirPort.
I have tried to reload the AP to no avail. Have also tried to reload the iOS devices, to no avail.
What should I do? Seems like the bridge connection between the wifi network and the Ethernet port just died.
On a side note, 7.6.1 seems to be very unstable, my PS3 connection drops constantly, which never happened before. Can you point me to a more stable release?
    Persio

Try restoring the factory settings of the AirPort Express and delete all profiles
    you have set:
    1 Unplug the AirPort Express.
2 With the tip of a straightened paper clip to hold the reset button while
    plug the AirPort Express.
Wait until the status light stops blinking and then restart the base station.

  • Internet Sharing Stopped Working

At home, I have a G5 dual 2Ghz as my primary computer and a G4 450MHz that I use mostly as a file archive. I was running OS X 10.4.10 on both machines. My internet connection device (an AirCard from Sierra Wireless)is hooked up via USB to my G5. I set up internet sharing on the G5 so that I could share the connection with my G4. At different times I used ethernet (T100) and Firewire 400 to successfully connect the two machines and share the internet connection. It worked great, especially the Firewire because of the higher speed.
The internet sharing just stopped working and I'm trying to figure out why. The actual hardware Ethernet or Firewire connections are fine. I still have a good internet connection on the G5. The local connection between the machines is also still good and I can transfer files between the machines at expected speeds across either connection. On the G4, IP addresses are assigned to both the Ethernet and Firewire ports via DHCP and they seem valid. The G4 "thinks" it's connected to the Internet, but I can't pull up a web site using either Safari or Firefox.
I had both the ethernet and Firewire hooked up at the same time. Suspecting some sort of conflict, I tried them individually (i.e. disconnecting the other), but had no luck. The closest I came was when I had just the ethernet connected. I managed to pull up a bit of the Apple site, but it didn't finished loading. It was like only a few packets got through. I tried other URL's and got about the same results. I suspected maybe a firewall was blocking something, so I temporarily turned the firewalls off on both machines. No luck.
I checked my Internet Sharing setup on the G5 and verified it had not been changed. Internet sharing is running and is set up to support both Ethernet and Built-In Firewire. I also checked network setups on the G4 and that seemed okay too. I'm kind of a fanatic about documenting my setups, so I have a good record of what worked at one time.
The only think that's changed (that I'm aware of) is an update from OS X 10.4.10 to 10.4.11 on both machines. I suppose something at my ISP could have changed, but they sent no notices if that's the case.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to those that replied. Sometime around 2AM last night, I couldn't sleep and started working on the problem again. I finally found out what was causing this Internet problem.
The AirCard requires a program called Sierra Watcher (SW) to connect to the internet. A few days before I noticed the problem, SW got corrupted somehow. I ran the SW installer to remove it, then do a fresh install. What I didn't realize was that some portion of the old corrupt installation remained, even though I had used the Uninstall feature of the SW installer to remove the old version.
While checking everything I could think of, I went into the Network panel under System Preferences and had it show the Network Port Configuration. There was a listing there for AirCard as there should be, but there was also a second listing for AirCard, which was grayed-out. I deleted the grayed-out version and hit Apply Now. I then shut both computers down (not just a reboot). When I brought them back up, everything worked! It appears that the G5 had been sharing the old corrupt "connection" instead of the new good one.

  • Windows APP without real internet connection stops working in time

Windows APP without real internet connection stops working in time
    Hello all,
I am trying to get the following to work. We have an intranet page which users need to connect to, to operate some machines. This is done through an windows 8.1 Tablet with an assigned KIOSK mode app (Kios SP Browser).
This works great as the assigned app is the only thing the user can run and we don't have to really harden the device. One drawback in using the assigned apps is that it needs to be an New App (as Microsoft call it)
The app is installed on an reference machine which runs in workgroup mode (no domain connection is needed on the devices) and after the reference machine is installed it is imaged with the use of Acronis. After deployment the tablet has no connection to
internet and the intranet page is wireless put available to the tablets. As a side note, the tablet operates with local accounts and the app is installed using an corporate hotmail account we created just for this purpose.
I now deployed the image over 20 different tablet devices and this worked great until recently a few devices start to complain it needs to connect to the windows shop before the app can be started. As the devices don't have internet access this can't be
done and the tablet is rendered useless for the user.
How can i make the app available without internet connection ? and how can i be sure the app will continue to work over time without connection to the store ?

    Thanks for the reply.
I can't unblock the internet connection as the wireless network doesn't have any internet connection what so ever. The main purpose is to be able to operate the machinery and nothing else, hence the kios app which is being used to show the intranet page
which connects than to the devices.
The problem is that after imaging the app works as expected but after a few days the app stops to work ...
I found the following website over site loading an app without the needed appx files. It shows an way to capture the files during installation from the windows store.
    https://www.404techsupport.com/2014/06/installing-free-windows-8-modern-apps-without-the-windows-store/
It is a bit strange to have it this difficult to install apps without the needed store and i think that Microsoft should make this easier. I hope this works better and after a few days i will give the feedback how this handles..
If anyone knows of a better way .....

    Hey..

  • Router (WRT310N) Just stops working...

Well I play Halo and whenever I host a server, there's usually no issue with the lag or anything, but usually after I restart a game, maybe 10 minutes into the new game the router just stops working completely... It's still on but is not connecting to the internet or anything, it doesn't work until I shut it off and put it back on..
Can someone help me with my problem?

I guess you should try to upgrade/flash your router's firmware...
    Download Firmware 3.23 MB...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
See if this fixes your problem...

  • Hi, i have an IPod Touch 4g. One of the earphones just stops working after while,no matter how many times i replace them. What do i do?

Hi, i bought my IPod 4G about 7 months ago. After about a mont of buying them, one the earphones just stopped working which became extremely annoying..so i bought a new set of earphones and they worked well for about 5/6 months and then one of them stopped working as well. About 2 weeks ago, i bought a new set of earphones and now the right earphone of that has stopped working as well. The thing is, the earphone doesnt just stop working on my IPod, it also stops working on my laptop...and now i am very confused as to where the problem lies. I can't keep buying headphones every other week cos that is just too expensive and i dont know if the problem lies with my IPod or what! The same thing is happening to my sister's IPod as they were purchased at the same time. What do we do??

This previous discussion discusses the same if not similar problem.

  • Can't open a dng or raw file in cs5, just stops working. So many problems in cs5!

I totally feel for you. Just upgraded from cs4 to cs5 and it was the  biggest mistake i ever made. It will probably end my livelihood as a  photographer since EVERY time i open a raw file it crashes photoshop,  makes it freeze up after i have adjuted the file in camera raw then I  hit open; i get a few bars then it just stops working.
Even got  tech help, which helped when i was on the phone with them. The next day  the problem came back even when I danced the same jig that I did when I  had the guy on the phone - he had me move a raw file on to the desktop  rather than take open from my hard drive, then I was able to open it, so  we came to the conclusion that my drive was corrupt. I had the same  information backed up on a brand new hard drive so we compared files  from the each drive against the other. The files from the new drive  opened successfully. Yesterday. Now Photoshop cs5 doesn't open any raw  or dng files at all from anywhere so it can only be a problem with  photoshop. We thought we had the problem solved but we did not. This  never happened on CS4 unless i was trying to open 30 or more raw files,  and even then it gave me a warning that it had no more ram, it didn't  just lock up and do nothing. I'm at my wit's end. Even though there are a  lot of great new things in cs5, they aren't very useful if you can't  use the product to do the simplest thing.

    1) Install the Photoshop 12.0.1 update
    2) Install the latest ACR update.
If problems continue after that, then there probably is something wrong with your system.

my ipod classic got wet back in August.. it seemed to work fine for about a month, but recently is not working at all..screen appeared to get cloudy and then it just stopped working. thanks.

    Most likely, water damage.
You can try putting your iPod in a tupperware, half filled (maybe half inch) with rice grains, close the cover for about a week.
If you have done this, as soon as it got wet, higher chances of success, now looks like the water moisture is getting to the LCD screen.
Then you can always bring it to Apple Genius bar, for a an overhaul. (may cost you half the price of a new iPod classic.)
