Internet Service Down?

Anybody know if the internet service is down in Portland Oregon?  I know they are doing testing on our 4G network here so they can roll it out this summer but 3G isn't working and even 1X is barely coming up.  Also, anybody else have problems with the Thunderbolt randomly dropping internet for no reason and then mysteriously comes back up?

It appears that there are outages nationwide since early this morning.
I don't there is any official word from Verizon about the outages, but if you check some of the threads in this forum, there are some solutions posted that may help you reestablish data connection (at least 3g anyways).

Anybody else having same problem today?  I am not even able to reach Verizon customer service.  Their phone system keeps hanging up mid stream when I call via my mobile.  Thankfully my 3G still works!

  • Blackberry Desktop Software shuts down when running Sprint Smart View Internet Service (Air Card)

Just installed Blackberry Desktop Software and it runs ok when I am not running Sprint Smart View (This is my program for my internet service / sprint air card).  As soon as I start Sprint Smart View the desktop software no longer works and just shuts itself down after a minute or two.

I'm not familiar with this particular package, but with similar packages from other carriers there's usually a setting that lets the program control your Network - it may only say Wi-Fi.
The BlackBerry drivers include a Dial-Up connection which is probably getting shut down by the software which kills Desktop Manager.
If you turn off that option, the problem should go away (reboot probably a good idea).

  • Internet slows down at night to less than 1Mbs, poor customer service

I'm having the same problem. I had originally 1-3 Mbps (Oct 2008 - Jan 2012). It used to work fine but then the speed seems to be slowing down as years passed by, I was getting less than 1Mbps most of the time so I upgraded to 3-7Mbps with 2 years holding period (Jan 2012 to Jan 2014). From Jan 2012 to Nov. 2012 it was fine, then starting Dec. 2012, the internet started to slow down at night. I'm getting 6-7Mbps during daytime and until around 9pm, then the internet slows down to less than 1Mbps after 9pm. Then starting mid January 2013, the situation seems to get worst, the internet slows down starting around 7pm, and then on the 3rd wk of January, the internet started to slow down as early as 5pm.
I've contacted the customer service twice. First, the person who attended remotely accessed my computer and after more than 15 minutes trying to find fault at my computer, wiring, set-up or wireless router (instead of the verizon network), he realized he doesn't have any excuses and instead instructed me to hard reset the modem. I told him that if I hard reset the modem, he will be disconnected to my computer. He said, "that's fine, I will call you you to give instruction on how to set-up the modem". After I have hard reset the modem, he never called up and I was left all by myself figuring out how to set-up the modem. I've contacted the customer service the 2nd time, a different person attended and exactly the same thing happened, the guy instructed me to hard reset the modem but never called up after he got disconnected. I guess this is their expertise, how to rudely leave the communication once they figure out that they can't resolve the problem.
Once the 2 years holding period is over, I will change to other internet provider and will never switch back to verizon again. I will never ever recommend verizon to my friends and will share them my experience with verizon.

This is one of the reasons we are leaving Verizon as well.  We previously left Brighthouse because the initial deal sounded great, until the rebates expired.  When the price jacked up, I told them they had to better because Brighthouse was much less expensive for the same package but their service didn't slow down at 7pm.  The customer service agent said I really couldn't compare the two because Verizon has a superior quality of service.  I asked, "Then why does my internet slow down around 7pm, because the Brighthouse service didn't do that".  All the customer service agent has to say was, "That's not true."  Nice try.  He essentially called me a liar, about something I've seen firsthand, and I have experienced that same 7pm slowdown with a similar service we had in NC.  Sorry Verizon, we left Brighthouse because we thought we were saving a few bucks, and getting a higher speed on our internet.  Not true on both accounts and we're going back.    PS To the person who made this initial blog post, I noticed there were 484 views but no "likes"  - it's because that button won't let you click it, at least that's what I experienced on my end.  I'm certain there are a lot more people out there who deal with this same issue and are quite frustrated.

  • Help everytime I shut down or restart my computer my internet service goes out!!!

I have a desktop HP Pavilion Intel Core Quad
its Windows 7 and my internet service provider is Time Warner.
It is not a wireless connection.
For a few days now everytime I shut down or restart my computer my internet service goes out and I am unable to access the intenet. I get the error message "unidentified network no internet access"  I do not even want to shut off my computer for fear of losing the internet access. The most recent time this has happened I called my ISP to reset my connection. I have never had to do this before so I am not sure whay is going on?
Anyone have any insight or ideas to fix this?

Your PC won't automatically choose a public network since your PC is not autonomous.
If you are using  wired CAT5 connection, then your network is whatever internal adress the internet modem or router has provided. If the only thing your PC is connected to is your Time Warner router then the identified network comes from the router.

  • I recently upgraded my internet service to be faster on myIMac tiger 10.4.11 and that lasted about a day. Now not only do I get TBBFH but even opening up let's say Face book it loads very slowly . It's not the BBFH but next to the facebook it's a circle o

Even when I am using Safari or Firefox  the spinning wheel of lines especially for face book just keeps spinning and it takes forever to load my pages. It was faster than this before I upgraded my internet service. I Check the speeds and those are fine (using a internet speed test). I have emptied all of my caches, cleaned my Mac with (Clean My Mac), I've taken out all old files, pictures, cleared my widgits, and I don't know what else to do. Is there some configuration I need to address some where inmy preferences? Do Ihave to just live with it? I do want to upgrade to Snow Leopard but, I can't afford that at this moment. Any ideas please forward. Another issue I have is that my IMac will not accept a DVD+Rdl but will accept any and all other DVD' and CD's what could cause that?
    Sincerely,
    Rochichi98

A warm welcome to Apple discussions!
A 2003 iMac cannot support Snow Leopard 10.6; you'd need an Intel processor and that cannot be retrofitted to your Mac. What does "About this Mac" in your Apple menu say  for your processor speed? What does it say about how much RAM you have?
If the processor is 1ghz or faster, you can run OS 10.5; otherwise, you are maxed out at 10.4.11.
Also, are you running any commercial ("pay for") anti-virus or security software? They are notorious for slowing most Macs to a fraction of their speed potential.
A too-full hard drive can drag down performance, especially if you don't have a lot of physical RAM installed. If you single-click your hard drive icon and then do command i, you'll see the disk usage. Looks like this:
The value for "Used" should be no more than about 90 percent of "Capacity." In the example image, that drive has about 34 percent of its space used and 66 percent free--more than enough. Please post what you see for your Capacity and Used numbers
There are a few more things we might check but this is a good start.
    Awaiting your information,
    Allan

  • HT4628 I recently transferred my internet service to another state. Have not yet moved my imac, just my pc laptop. I cannot get my airport extreme wireless router to work. The green light stays lit when everything is connected but I can't connect to the i

I recently transferred my internet service to another state.I have not yet moved my imac, just my pc laptop. I cannot get my airport extreme wireless router to work. The green light stays lit when everything is connected but I can't connect to the internet. Any suggestions?

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Help needed starting Internet service at new residence

Hello. My name is {edited for privacy}. I recently moved to a new location and I am having trouble finding a Verizon representative to help me order high speed Internet service at my new residence. I have been working with a specialist supervisor {edited for privacy} regarding this issue. However, he has not contacted me as promised for over 2 weeks. While I understand the holiday season is/was upon us, with vacation time and special hours, I have left 3 voice messages over this period in an attempt to collect information and solve my dilemma.
Because of my location at {edited for privacy}, it is classified as rural. Subsequently, I understand a finite number of connections exist. I was assured because I already have a Verizon port installed in my house from the previous tenants all that needed to be done was for the software engineers to update the site to include my address in their system. Unfortunately, this was never completed even though numerous Verizon representatives ordered this information to be updated. They informed me the turnaround for the software engineers to correct this problem was 24-48 hours and I should be able to set up service by either calling or going online. This was in early December. I was given a fast order number {edited for privacy} which has been helpful when speaking to various representatives.
In addition, I have also spoken to my local Verizon technician in Russell, PA. He informed me there should not be a problem as numerous ports are open for rural connection in my area. He said I may need to connect a land-line before proceeding and once a dial tone was initiated a high speed connection could be made. The representatives and technicians I have spoken with have been extremely helpful in my quest to secure an Internet connection. I am writing this letter to hopefully proceed with contacting the software engineers to please update the Verizon residential site so I can move forward with my installation.
If there is any way I can set up service at my location that would be fantastic. I teach online classes and desperately need a reliable fast Internet connection to work with my students. I appreciate your time and help regarding my dilemma.
    Sincerely,
    {edited for privacy}

  • No connexion to BlackBerry Internet Service

    Hello,
I have a Blackberry Torch and since 10 days, I don't have any access anymore to Blackberry Internet Service (BIS).
The access sometimes comes back for a few minutes/hours, and then, it is disconnected during hours/days.
Actually, the connexion is interrupted 95% of time.
What is strange is that putting my sim card in another Blackberry, everything is working well, and putting another sim card in my Blackberry, everything is also working well.
It means we can not conclude my Blackberry doesn't work but we cannot conclude that my sim card is the issue neither, especially because my provider, B&You, sent me a new sim card.
I can see that my Blackberry is always trying to connect to BIS as every 5 or 10 minutes, the Blackberry logo appears on my screen for a few seconds and disapears just after.
Checking in my parameters, I see "not connected" in the section "Blackberry Internet Service".
As a consequence, I have no access to bbm, no access to Internet and I cannot send any email...
    Can anybody help me?

    On the handset, go to:
    For OS5 and 4.x
Options - Advanced Options - Host Routing Table
and click Register now, and escape back to the home page.
    For OS6 and higher
in options, device , advanced, host routing table, click on menu and choose register now.
Wait 2 minutes and see if registration to network happens.
Resend your service books from your carrier BIS site:
    From your handheld device: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15402
Go to the Personal Email Set Up icon and log in. Then under Help!, select Service Books, then select Send service Books.
    From your desktop PC: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
North American Carriers - scroll down to select your carrier
WorldWide Carriers - Find your carrier on the list
    3. With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot. This reboot, even if you have already done this, is often needed to install the service books.

  • Problems with my blackberry internet service

hi, i recently got a pearl 9100, my brother got it for me in canada and sent it down to me.i have not been able to activate my BIS event hough i have taken it to all the people that i thought would be able to fix it.I went to my provider's(zain ng now airtel nigeria) office and apparently everything is registered with them(i got charged for it already) but its just not showing on my phone.i can make calls and do all functions that a regular phone can perform, i just cant activate my blackberry internet services.i dont know what to do anymore, im so crushed.could anybody help me out? Thanks.
ps: the phone isnt locked.i check under advanced options and sim card...everthing there is disabled like its supposed to be.

    Hi megan_fak,
Welcome to BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
I would suggest verifying with the original carrier of the device that it has been unlocked. If it hasn't, you will need to have them unlock it. If it has been unlocked, it may not have full functionality when used on another network, especially if that provider does not sell that model. You will need to verify that they have the necessary service books.

  • Voice service down. No dial tone or light.

It's recently come to my attention after expecting a call that my Uverse phone service is down. Checking the call logs, it looks like this problem started sometime after 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, the 11th. I've tried a number of things on my end to try and fix it, but nothing seems to be working. Figured I should try and get a second opinion here before escalating the problem to phone support. Supplemental information: Power, Broadband, and Service lights are all solid green. Voice 1 (Service line) is not lit.Homeportal page landing states the voice status on line 1 is not registered. Both TV and internet services are unaffected.Primary phone is a cordless system. Keep a spare landline plugged in at all times for power outages. No dial tone on either one.No apparent fraying or disconnection of inside wiring from protector (no NID installed) to homerun to RG. Outside pair is a buried drop.BBU light is green and is in proper working order.Solutions I've tried: Plugging a phone directly into the RG. Nothing happened. Still no dial tone.Power cycling the RG. No change. Did not restore phone service. The online repair tool automated diagnostics detected no problems. Followed steps for no dial tone, repair was not successful, stated that the RG needed to be replaced.Troubleshooted through TV access, resetting voice service had no effect.

Factory reset the RG by depressing and holding reset bottom located near power connection on back of RG. (Valid for 3800, 3801 and 589 RG with TV service) Warning this restore default settings, any custom changes (ssid, password, etc) will need to be redone. Need to hold till all lights go out  with a green power light only (about 10-15 seconds).Give it 5 minutes or so to reload/recycle.... Does line1 light come on, yes check dial tone, call in/out. If no either RG replacement or phone has been removed from your account... Either way will need to call 1-800-288-2020. If you have the 3812 inid with i38hg, the factory reset is performed at the iPSU or white toaster size power supply by inserting a toothpick (or similar) into red line hole on upper left side.Again hold till both light (left/right) are flashing red.

  • Tethering vs. conventional internet service

I don't have an iphone--yet. But I like the idea of using an iphone to get internet access via the tethering option from ATT. I currently pay for internet service through my cable TV company. Soon I will be moving to another part of the country and living there part time. I will need internet service there as well. The idea of paying for internet service in both places, or switching one on and the other off, as I move from one place to the other, doesn't appeal. Since I would have the iphone with me in both places, would the tethering option take the place of paying for internet service from two different cable companies? Is there a flaw in my thinking here? I understand that 3g via the iphone isn't quite as fast as a cable modem but I've read that it's quite adequate. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who uses tethering via their iphone in lieu of conventional internet service.

I'm rather late coming in on this thread but thought I'd respond anyway, in case you're still looking for answers. I'm in Canada, on Rogers, and have the 6GB data package (at $30/month because it was a special introductory offer). When internet tethering became available a year later I tried it out with my MacBookPro, found it worked much better than the satellite modem I was paying $100/month for, so cancelled the satellite and have been using the phone as my modem ever since - about 18 months, if I'm remembering correctly.
I receive MANY large files for a magazine I work on plus websites I maintain. Only twice have I gone over the limit on my plan, so I would think that if you don't do a lot of heavy-duty downloading (or watching videos as someone else suggested), the 2GB plan would be ok.
The downside of this method is that I live in the country, where there is no 3G available (barely even cell service at all sometimes) so I have a booster on my roof which gets me to the 3G level. I've noticed that when I have 3 bars or more my tethering is much more reliable than when it drops down to 1 or 2 bars of 3G. As long as you're in a strong cell area, it should work just fine.

  • RV042 - I have customer who upgraded to 20 meg cable internet service and can only get 10 meg thru the router.

RV042 - I have customer who upgraded to 20 meg cable internet service and can only get 10 meg thru the router. The customer had upgrade to a 20 meg cable internet service from a 10 meg service.   The customer is only able to get the 20 meg service going from cable modem to PC.  If he goes thru the RV042 router, he is only getting up to 10.7 down and 1.37 up.  Additional steps taken….He had a Linksys SRW224P switch connected to the RV042 router and we had disconnected this switch for testing purposes.   We performed the speed test again and we get the same speed results so we know the switch is not the issue. He had upgraded to firmware version 1.3.12.19 – TM Feb 13, 2009 – tested speed and no change. We accessed the web management interface and tried several modifications.   This includes the following…..-       We disabled the firewall – no change-       We disabled SPI with is the Stateful Packet Inspection (I was thinking this one would do it) – no change in speed.-       We disabled DoS (Deny of Service) – no change.-       We set MTU to Manual and tested various byte increments based on MTU ping testing. – Once again, no change in speed.  He is NOT using Load balancing on the routerHe has NO access rules but does have a few port forwards. Finally, with each change, he is saving the changes on the router.

You are expecting 20MB throughput on a $150 router?  Well, ok, maybe.. Can you check on your router or switch if the port is set or auto negotiated to 10 or 100?  That could explain 10MB limit (although technically a 10Mb port is considered 20Mb theoretical max throughput as 100Mb port is considered 200Mb per Cisco).  So maybe you ended up with 10/half somehow?  MTU 1500 would also be good for that connection I think and to try to get max throughput.

No, as I already said, they will not.  They will not repair or replace any Apple device that's even been opened by anyone else.
In this case, the morons who butchered your phone caused a lot more damage than the broken screen.
You should have taken it to Apple for service in the first place.
