Inventory computer
Hello,
I have a script that can
make an inventory of computers and put in excel,
on nec
vl 370 no problem
everything works , on
lenovo, if I
want to know the type of processor and the
hard disk capacity:
Get-WmiObject: Request not valid At line: 1 char: 5+ Gwmi <<<< Win32_Processor 300-01 + CategoryInfo: InvalidOperation: (:) [Get-WmiObject], ManagementException + FullyQualifiedErrorId: GetWMIManagementException, Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.GetWmiObjectCommand
Same error from win32_logicaldisk

SCCM 2012 Design Consideration / Advice
I have been tasked with a SCCM 2012 Design. We will be starting a fresh so I want to get this design right the first time and looking to you all on advice / Considerations I need to look at. Any help/feedback is appreciated.
Company Layout:
1 Main Office (Corporate Headquarters)
15+ Remote Locations with T1 Connections back to Main Office
3 Remote Locations with 100MB Connection to Main Office
2 Remote Locations with 10MB Connection to Main Office
2 Remote Locations with T3 Connections back to Main Office
300+ Remote Sales Rep (Work From home, coffee shops, etc...)
Approxamitly 3500 Clients throughout the organization
What we want to accomplish with SCCM:
Hardware/Software Inventory
Computer Imaging & Users State Migration
Deploy Packages / Applications
Application Portal (Self Service)
Windows/Software Updates (Even to Remote Sales Reps)
Manage Mobile Devices
What are your thoughts on the design? Do we run SQL on the CAS/Primary Site Servers or do we run it on a separate server?
Main Office = CAS (Probably Don't need), & Primary Site, & a Distribution Point for Internet Based Clients.
Primary Site Roles:
Site Server
Component Server
SMS Provider
Site System
Site Database Server
Application Catalog Web Service Point
Application Catalog Website Point
Distribution Point
Management Point
Software Update Point
State Migration Point
Fallback Status Point
Remote Offices do I do all Secondary Sites or Mix and match DP or do I make some of them Primary Sites?
Secondary Site Roles:
Site Server
Component Server
SMS Provider
Site System
Site Database Server
Management Point
Distribution Point
Software Update Service
State Migration Point
Fallback Status Point
Also do you agree with the specs I am thinking for each server role?
CAS
8 cores (Intel Xeon 5504 or comparable CPU)
32 GB of RAM
500 GB of disk space
Primary
4 cores (Intel Xeon 5140 or comparable CPU)
16 GB of RAM
500 GB of hard disk space
Secondary Site
4 cores (Intel Xeon 5140 or comparable CPU)
8 GB of RAM
200 GB of hard disk space
Distribution Points
2 cores (Intel Xeon 5140 or comparable CPU)
8 GB of RAM
200 GB of hard disk spaceBased on that you'll have a total of approx. 3500 clients in your organization I do not see the immediate requirements of secondary sites but if you have sites with approx. 500 users a secondary site is a good idea.
IOPS is the most important thing when looking at hardware requirements for a site server due to it being SQL intensive. And it is actually only the database file storage that requires high IOPS. Due to that measuring IOPS is more of an art than science I
cant give you any numbers but SSD drives is nice to have :)
Based on your list of hardware I guess you've found
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh846235.aspx and
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SupConfigClientNumbers
As you wrote and that other has written, do not use a CAS for this scenario.
If you can pull of some SSDs I would say something like
120 GB non-SSD for OS (remember, that pagefile needs some room too!)
80 GB non-SSD for Program Files
64 GB SSD for Database's
64 GB non-SSD for logs
500 GB non-SSD for Content Source
500 GB non-SSD for Content Library
Figures above is an estimate for your Primary Site Server based on the information you've given. I can not guarantee these figures due to forum post. The point of this post is to show you where you need SSD/lots of IOPS for good performance.
I usually recommend you to run your system as virtual machines due to the fact that you can use snapshots while performing upgrades and other maintenance tasks.

Computer ID and inventory continuity
Hi guys,
I have some questions about computer identification - does anyone can tell me how ZCM recognize computer ID and what is that unique ID for the computer? Is that GUID and only GUID?
My potential customer asked me about it, and i'm concidering about possibility of combine GUID with MAC address, for example - ZCM can do this?
Thats important for him, let's discus about scenario- he wants to have continuity in inventory. For example, he has a computer with Windows XP and that computer is invetoried and managed by ZCM, then he updated that Windows XP to Win Vista, 7, or whatever - the question is - is that possible to "update" informations about this computer in zone, in ZCM, without creating a new workstation object? He wants to have information in device's history about changing OS from Windows "X" to Windows "Y" and have all of this info in one workstation object, that's why im asking about combination of GUID and MAC, for example.
Regards,
P.GUID is the Unique Identifier.
Mac, Machine Name, and Serial Number can be used by ZCM to automatically
keep a Physical Device linked to a GUID between Re-Images, HD Failures,
OS Upgrades etc.. etc..
The process of keeping a device linked is "Reconciliation" and there are
settings controlling this in the ZCC.
It is also possible to manually use "zac reg" to register a PC to a
specific device in the ZCC.

Hi All,
Recently I upgraded SCOM 2012 SP1 CU5 to CU6 and facing following issue:
1. New menu item got grayed out that appears upon the right click on Monitoring node(root) under monitoring workspace.
2. When we click Monitoring in the navigation pane, the Monitoring Overview opens, which displays a summary of health states and alerts. if we click any of the numbers in the overview, it is supposed to open a state view of the selected category but
this function does not work now.
3. Views like Active Alerts, Discovered Inventory, Distributed Applications, Task Status, Unix/Linux Computers and Windows Computer do not appear under Monitoring workspace after upgrading to UR6.
Has anyone out there facing such kind of issue? Any help on fixing these issues would be appreciating. Thanks in advance.Hi,
Have you re-opened the operation manager console?
There are some known issues when intalling UR6, please go through it:

In addition, there is CU7 for SCOM sp1, why not installing the newest one:

Does anyone know how program a Computer Inventory in Java?
Im currently working on a school project with the following:
- A program that monitors Hardware installed in a computer and in a network. It makes an inventory of these in a MySQL database.
- A program that enumerates Desktop Applications located in a PC acquires information of the application's version.
- A program that actually knows when these applications are used by the user
- Finally it is suppposed to know when a certain hardware is experiencing performance problems.
I've been searching on how to do it for months.. i studied SNMP, RMI, MIBs, JMX, JDMK.. been all over textbooks and websites but nothing gave any clear tutorials and examples.. :( Im not even sure if im looking at the right Language to do all of these for me..
..Just looking for anyone who can help me step on the right foot.
ThanksThis cannot be done using pure Java. Look at a C solution, perhaps wrapped within a Java application to give a common interface. You'll need to be careful on the C front as much of the code that you write will be platform-specific.

Obtain Inventory from Printers conected to one computer and conected to the network in SCCM 2012
Hi i have a question how can i obtain information about computers in my network and the printers conected to one computer, i would like to obtain information like manufacturer, model and serial number, what do i have to activate to do this i wait for your
commets thaks. If you are using ConfigMgr 2012, you can enable inventory of local printers with the Printer Device (Win32_Printer) which will give you make/model and capabilities information. I do not believe it reports the serial number, since this is going to be
handled differently by every printer manufacturer.
If you are using only HP, there are ways to script getting this information.
I hope that helps,

New custom mof not working on half of computer inventory
Hello! Hopefully someone can help me with this one. 3 days ago I created a custom mof with RegKeytoMof 3.1. I've used this before and have never
had an issue. However, this latest mof add doesn't seem to work on around 1000 computers. I can't quite figure out what is wrong.
They're all either Windows 7/Windows 8 and all 64bit. No consistency I can see with the ones not working. The entries are in the registry and show in wmi.
However, the inventoryagent.log doesn't show it scanning for this.
I've tried a full inventory sync and a install (with uninstall checked). Still same results.
I am on SCCM 2012 R2
Here are the mof entries. Thanks for the help!!!

Software Inventory Reporting with computer name on SCCM 2012
Hi All,
I am just trying to use "Count of all instances of software registered with Add or Remove Programs" from SCCM 2012 Report modules but its giving with collection id only ..
as i am trying to include in this with computername instead of Collection id but i am unable to get that.
is any one help me to get the list of software's name with counts inclusive of computernames
KJSUBBUThe issue with your request is that the COUNT statement gives numbers of distinct values.
For example, you wish to count all instances of "Microsoft Office 2007 Professional Plus" - That program name is a distinct value and there may be 50 instances in your environment.
BUT, when you add the computer name to this - e.g. MACHINENAME "Microsoft Office 2007 Professional Plus" you will always count 1 for each value and the query will yield 50 rows, because each machine name is a distinct value, despite
there being many instances of Office... the COUNT statement checks all values in the SELECT statement as part of the distinct value.
Here is an example:
SELECT
v_GS_SYSTEM.Name0,
v_GS_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS.DisplayName0,
COUNT(*) AS Qty
FROM
v_GS_SYSTEM
INNER JOIN
v_GS_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS ON v_GS_SYSTEM.ResourceID = v_GS_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS.ResourceID
WHERE
v_GS_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS.DisplayName0 = 'Google Chrome'
GROUP BY
v_GS_SYSTEM.Name0,
v_GS_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS.DisplayName0
Will yield the following results:
Name0 DisplayName0 Qty
TSTWIN7-01 Google Chrome 1
TSTWIN8-01 Google Chrome 1
I agree with Garth's post that you need to gather mgmt.'s requirements for this data first. If they are wanting reports which show counts of software, AND where that software is installed, you will need two separate reports: 1) summary
report of counts and 2) drill-down from the summary showing where a specific piece of software is installed.
Report for 1) is canned - "Count all instances of software registered in Add or Remove Programs"
Report for 2) is also canned - "Computers with specific software registered in Add Remove Programs"
The second report is a drill-down from the first when you click on the software Display Name link in the report.
I imagine that your company is looking to checking license counts and that if you ask further, you will find the specific software for which they are searching. This will also be a good exercise for you to become familiar with the auditing process
for annual true-ups, if you have not gone through this before. -
Computer inventory script (VBS)
I'm trying to create a simple VBS script that I could use with AD login script. Script should run fast and write some basic information to text file in central network location. Information I need is: computer IP, name, make, model, serial number, os,
os install date, logged on userI recommend looking in the Repository for examples.
You should also search the Internet for information on how to write and use Logon scripts.
The information you require can easily be done remotely without a logon script. It is the kind of information that we would not normally want in a logon script.

Looking for Help - DCM Item to check if Computer Rebooted within 7 days
Hi,
I would like to use DCM to tell me if computers have rebooted within 7 days. I would like to audit compliance for this reboot status.
I would like to target my Windows servers (14K of them) to tell me if they have rebooted recently. Is there a way to do this in SCCM using DCM?
I've been looking at WQL query and think the LASTBOOTUPTime is a good place to check for the (well) last boot time. But I am having trouble figuring out how to evaluate 7 days and use DCM to report on this for compliance.
Does anyone have any ideas...
Note: I have seen post on how to do this using hardware inventory data - but this is too slow for me as our hardware inventory SCCm client schedule is set to 2 weeks for servers. Thanks for the script, we are using to see which system haven't rebooted on 35 days.
We had a few false non-compliant results based on the computer regional settings.
I updated your script to and changed it look at days rather than hours.

Trying to get a computer repaired, getting the run around - a plea for help
First, some backstory:
I ordered a refurbished ThinkPad T440s from the Outlet on July 21 after two weeks of fighting with the bots and snipers. It was a nice machine: it had an i7 4600 processor and a FHD IPS display. The outlet shipped my computer quickly and I was happy to receive it. I opened it up and... it was the wrong computer altogether.
I contacted a CS representative and she told me that the only option was to send the unit back for a refund and try again. Apparently there is no inventory system in place to tell me if the computer I originally ordered was even available, or if it had been sent to a different customer. Begrudgingly, I sent the original laptop back and received my refund.
I decided to try again, and successfully managed to snag another machine with similar specs on July 29 after camping out on the Outlet site. I was overjoyed, but this order has turned out to be a nightmare.
After the status of my order sat on "Released to Manufacturing" for two weeks, I contacted bgriffin2 on these same forums. After giving him my order information, my laptop shipped on the same day, August 12. I was delighted.
When the computer arrived, I opened it up and I was pleased to see that it was the correct machine. However, the laptop had severe scratching all over the rear LCD cover, as if someone had taken their car keys and dug grooves in the lid. The edges of the computer were severely worn, and on one corner it looked like the pc had experienced a pretty nasty fall. To make a long story short, the laptop did not look reconditioned at all. It also had not been function tested, as there were numerous problems with the machine besides the cosmetics. The fingerprint reader did not work and was not even recognized by the BIOS, the speakers made loud popping noises intermittently, and the external battery was not even recognized by the machine. I still do not know if this was a battery issue, or if there is something wrong with the motherboard of the machine.
I used to work at a facility that refurbished handsets for Verizon Wireless. I will tell you up front that this sort of shoddy reworking and QC testing would never fly there. This unit should have never left the facility as a scratch & dent, much less as a refurbished and remanufactured unit.
Do you think that's the end of my sob story? Oh no, we're just getting started. Bgriffin2 acknowledged that this was unacceptable and he suggested I send it in for warranty service to have these issues resolved. I spoke to a very nice woman at the Atlanta service center and she was very helpful in getting me a prepaid carton to send the laptop to Memphis for repair. I sent the laptop off and it was deliviered to Lenovo on the 19th of August. Since then, the status of my repair on the EasyServ website has looked like this:
http://i.imgur.com/t3Qs03e.png
Each and every time I see "Hold for customer information," I place a phone call to the tech support line and ask what they need from me. The first two times I was redirected to the actual people doing the repair, as the representatives that answer the phone couldn't seem to discern what is going on with the repair. Both times, I was told that they didn't need anything from me, that there was a glitch in the system and the hold was accidentally placed. I was told that the hold was removed and that they would begin repairing my laptop immediately. I was content with that answer until I received a phone call last Thursday from someone from billing. This gentleman said that Lenovo wanted $300 to fix the scratched rear LCD cover as it was not covered by warranty. I was stunned. These people had my laptop for two weeks before tellling me that they wanted money from me. I was appalled and told him that there was no way that I was going to pay for it. I had to tell him twice that the unit was not a scratch and dent model, it was a refurbished model. The scratching on the lid is not minor, and the machine does not work as it is supposed to. He said that he would see if he could get the price reduced for me; I said absolutely not. He said that he would see if they would fix it for free out of the goodness of their hearts, and I said fine, do what you can. He promised to call me back and tell me about his findings; I have not heard from him again.
Upset by the previous phone call, I immediately called the tech support number again. A representative named Arva tells me that she sees that I am to receive a new laptop. Confused, I tell her that I had one sent in for repairs. She puts me on hold for a little while and comes back saying that the computer was damaged beyond Lenovo's acceptable specifications and that they were going to send me a newly refurbished laptop with the same specifications, and that I should expect a phone call within the next 24-48 business hours. Of course, that was on Thursday. I did not receive a call on Friday, and it was Labor Day weekend, so no calls then. I also did not receive a phone call yesterday, but I noticed a new "Hold for customer information" popped up.
I called again today to find out what they needed from me. This time the tech support representative tells me that the battery won't hold a charge, and that's the reason for the hold. Now tell me, why on earth would they not have another battery laying around to test with? She tells me that there is no ETA, but I requested a phone call from someone who knows what's going on, and also an escalation of some type. Notice that she did not mention a newly refurbished laptop as Arva had promised. These people can't even keep their story straight.
I am crying out for help here. I am a grad student in CS and I absolutely NEED a computer. I have a desktop at school, but it is not portable and I need a laptop. Please, can someone get something done about this?
My case number is A07YFM9.Hi massmercury,
I want to apologize for your experience here with the service center. I am moving forward to have your case escalated for further review. Please see my private message. I will be your point of contact until our Customer Advocate team reaches out to you.
Best regards,

Problem description:
My computer is running very slow ever since I switched to Yosemite. I get the multicolored wheel just opening my browser at times and waiting for a page to open, or an application. Any ideas other than rebooting my computer to get the problem to alleviate for a few days?

Good Day to ALL!
I have a script of SQLPlus that creates a report. I have 8/9 numeric columns which are 'SUM'ed up thru 'COMPUTE' command. It works for all BUT 2 columns. If I put these two columns, compute does not take affect. If I remove these two columns ( just cut) 'COMPUTE' works fine!!! These two coulumns use DB Function. But I have other column that also use DB Function. These two columns has some extra additions. Any thing wrong with the script/column defn.
Thanks - Pradip (Pradip Biswas @Singapore) Could you pl. reply to [email protected]
Here is bit of script. Sorry about the length of the cut and paste.

/Hi Barry and All: This indeed is a bug in SQLPLUS ! Version 9.2.0.1.0 as well.
Thanks for asking the version no of SQLLPLUs. I was working thru Oracle Apps 11i.10 (concurrent program). So I did not get any message from SQLPLUS.
I tested independently in SQLPLUS and got the message! Thanks Oracle!!!
The Bug is in the name of COLUMN NAME or ALIAS Name. I renamed the columns from ON_HAND_QTY and ON_HAND_VALUE to CLOSE_QTY and CLOSE_QTY_VALUE. It worked!! The string 'ON' in the column/alias name is taken as 'ON' keyword/clause for 'compute' statement for SQLPLUS.
Here is the message from SQLPLUS
" SP2-0084: COMPUTE ON keyword specified already"
See these two line and compare
--compute SUM label 'Total $S: ' of SALARY ON_SALARY on report;
compute SUM label 'Total $S: ' of SALARY on report;
Thanks - Pradip
Here is the sample code to simulate. (not Big :))

I think I already disabled all the updating functions, yet, SOMETIMES when I start Firefox, (with about:blank), my network monitor shows one to five connections to IP addresses mostly in the 74.125.225.x, 74.125.227.x, 74.125.228.x, and 72.21.x.x ranges. Those ranges include Google, Amazon, and Youtube.
I use Kaspersky, and have scanned multiple times for malware, and even had their technical support look into my computer. They see no malware. It is the Kaspersky Network Monitor that revealed the problem.
As I find them happening, I try to jot down the addresses, (quickly, because some of these connections only last a second or two), then add those to a firewall rule I created to try to combat the problem. Yet, next time I start, new addresses are "attacking". Of course, some get away, because I don't get the address jotted down before it goes away. At one point I used masking that ended up keeping me from Google and Youtube, so I have to add the addresses individually, and my block list in that one rule is 13 items long now. The only IPs not in those ranges are 23.5.251.27, and 173.194.46.5. Not sure where those go.
I used to get attacked by addresses in the range that includes Amazon ... 72.21.x.x. I have a separate firewall rule for them that has 33 addresses being blocked.
I should not have to do all that. Firefox should start and just sit there quietly until I start clicking or typing in it. This has been happening in Firefox versions going back to 11. May have gone on before that, but I wasn't tracking it then.
Also, it doesn't always happen, or, more precisely, with addresses I have not already blocked, (because my only way to know it's happening is when the connections are allowed to be made). It does not always happen right after Firefox is up, but sometimes several minutes later. I have started Firefox and just sat and watched the network monitor without doing anything in Firefox, and have seen this happen up to 15 minutes after I start Firefox ... mostly just two or three minutes when there's a delay at all.Firefox does not do anything but sit on about:blank after I start it as long as I have a firewall rule enabled that completely blocks these subnets:
74.125.222.0/24
74.125.227.0/24
74.125.228.0/24
173.194.46.0/24
173.194.115.0/24
173.194.121.0/24
64.233.171.0/24
54.230.90.0/24
54.230.88.0/24
72.21.194.0/24
72.21.195.0/24
72.21.215.0/24
207.171.163.0/24
Otherwise, Fire fox creates connections to one to five addresses in those ranges. Note that there are more than 5 subnets above, but usually three connections satisfies whatever purpose these connections are being made for. If I had some links or whatever that is causing these connections, I would expect all of them would come up every time.
Also, these connections do not start immediately upon starting Firefox, they wait up to 15 minutes to start ... fifteen minutes of just sitting idle ... no actions on my part that could possibly initiate them. Usually these start within three minutes. A typical ploy of malware is to wait until no one is looking, or the until there's a forest to put their tree in so it won't be noticed.
While the above rules are in place, I do not have access to Amazon, Youtube, or Google, (or any of the various blog sites and services sponsored by Google, including Google Maps and Gmail). That list may not be complete, as I have other firewall rules in place that mainly block individual addresses.
It seems to me as simple as; figure out who owns those subnets, and you have your bad guys. Then go after them.
It's true that I have a bookmarks to Google, Gmail, and Youtube, but these are not "active" bookmarks nor RSS feeds. I have not voluntarily gone to Amazon on this computer.
The traffic being transmitted is unknown. It is usually not extremely large amounts of data ... less than a meg, but I have seen close to a Gig transmitted out of my computer, and over 400 meg transmitted to my computer, when I was not paying attention to block the offender. Even if it's small amounts, things like cookies, path structures, configuration settings, histories, etc. do not involve a lot of data, but, to me, represent a security breach, if someone decides to look at them unsolicited by me, not unlike your landlord, mortgage holder, or neighborhood police officer walking into your home while you're not there, and taking pictures of, or simply inventorying your belongings.
It is VERY much like some sort of backdoor malware. No malware is detected on my computer.
I looked at the suggestion above for OS changes for logging HTTP activity, but the author neglected to include instructions for backing out these changes after using them. If this were to create more jewels in a drawer the thief has access to, reformatting and restoring my drive is not the kind of back out process I enjoy. Therefore it would be foolish to apply them. To me it would be like bungee diving with no bungee. Fun until you hit the bottom. Give me the bungee, let me make sure it's short enough, then I'll dive.
