Invoking Microsoft Excel from jsp??

Hello:
Im going to install jdeveloper 903 and convert my application and I now want to add a button to call an excel spread sheet, is this possible? What are its limitations if any? Any input would be appreciated.

To create excel files from Java have a look at Jakarta's POI project.
Also you might be interested in Java to COM bridges.
There are some companies creating those and there is also the open-source JACOB project.
A google search on any of these will get you there.

Problem in invoking BPEL process from jsp

Dear Experts,
I am trying to invoke BPEL process from simple JSP form, with guide lines of http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/integrate.1013/b28981/invoke.htm. But I'm receiving the following error
Error: JSP files must reside in the server root directory or a subdirectory beneath it
Note: I having my JSP page inside my project folder-->output_html--> myfile.jsp

Exporting to Microsoft Excel from a DataView Web Part consuming a Web Service with Parameters

In Sharepoint Designer, I've developed a page displaying a DataView Web Part which consumes an XML Web Service with three parameters. These parameters are passed in from a simple Form Web Part containing three input fields. I am able to provide default values for the web service so the dataview is initially populated, and when I enter in new parameters, the web service goes back, grabs the requested data and displays in the dataview nice and slick.
The problem I'm having is this: In Internet Explorer 7, when I right-click on the DataView Web Part and select Export to Microsoft Excel, Excel opens up, says "ExternalData_1: Getting Data..." and returns the data from the web service which applies to the default parameter values each and every time, regardless of whether I have changed the parameters on the web page, and contrary to what the DataView Web Part displays on the screen.
Has anyone else run into this, and is there a solution to the problem?

Date can not display correctly in excel from .jsp

Hi,
I create a .jsp report to export the data to excel. the report run OK, except the date field can not display correctly.
for example in database :start date ='01-oct-2003'
in the except it displays to 02/06/02.
It seem all the date field can not be control in the report, and control by somthing else

I tried to do the same, and inserted a database date field in the JSP using Reports. I found the following:
While making the template inside Excel, if I make sure that the format of the date cells is "Date" - some particular date format, the date field values from Reports does not get exported correctly.
However, if you make sure that inside the template, the format of the date cells is not date, but "General", then the date field values are correctly exported to Excel.
Pl try it and let us know.

Invoking MS Excel from Java

HI,
I'm trying to create a standalone application that would need to logon in a database.If the user is a valid one, the user can then choose which table he wanted to update. All the rows of the column will be shown in an excel format. (the program will invoke Excel to show all the records in that table). From that, the user can edit the content and after saving it, data in the databse will also be updated.
Is there any Java API that I can use to make this application possible?

Yeah ..This is my final project for my masters degree.
I'm integrating BPEL with GIS(Geographic Information System) webservices provided by ESRI(Arcweb services). My main BPEL process that I built follows this sample example. The problem is that I need to show a working client application within 2 days or else my project is termed as incomplete and my graduation will be postponed to next semester. :(
I tried your advice, as soon as I add a Java code to my BPEL process, the application is taking longer time to execute in the BPEL console itself.

How to invoke Oracle Reports from JSP ?

you can call it from a URL if you need:
/reports/rwservlet?report=...&detype=cache&desformat=pdf...
You can define a file called cgicmd.dat on teh server that takes key-value pairs of the most common parameters under an named entry.
e.g.
ReportsCommon: destype=cache server=myServer ... %*
This way your URL is reduced to a minimum length because you don't have to list all parameters in teh URL.
Second solution:
Run a Reports from a browser URL and specify paramform=yes. This create a HTML based parameter form before executing teh Reports. Have a look at the HTML form code and see to what extend your Reports share same functionality so that you could create this HTML form in your JSP page. You could have a poplist with the name of "desformat" and list HTML, HTMLCSS,PDF,RTF,XML as valid entries so that the user can select the output format.
The Reports documentation shipped with Oracle9iAS (also available online otn.oracle.com/products/reports) has all teh information you need.

Invoking OS commands from JSP

I am trying to invoke underlying Operating System's commands such as cd, or calling a batch file from my JSP.
I achieve this by doing as below:

Process process = Runtime.getRuntim().exec(command);
I need to know the current directory where this command would be invoked.
How can I get the path? It's very urgent!

Error in "Export to Microsoft Excel" from Portal

Hi,
I have a BW report on Portal 7.0 with columns with time in format like hh:mm:ss.
When I exported it to Excel and open this file I get inside Excel window an information window "Problems while loading" and explanation "Value of cell". After I send OK sheet of data is opening. The hours fraction of time in all cells is changed to hh+1.
In log of this action ...\Temporary Internrt Files\Content.MSO\EB0B32EE.log are lines like:
HTML Error of Cell Value:06:10:00
where 06 ought to be 05.

I had the same problems (html inside excel) it was caused by wrong excel / bex versions because they were not compatible.
In my mind your error is caused by the same problem.

Creating Charts in MS - Excel from JSP tables

Hi,
Is there any way of taking the values in my JSP tables and passing them into ms-excel, and creating graphs or charts based on these values??
I don't particulaly want to use a macro ... is this the only way? or does someone know an easier and more profficent way?

graphs and charts - no. There is probably no easier way.
Putting the values in is not hard. Just set the return type to vnd/ms-excel instead of text/html. And send the HTML table only. This will read into newer versions of excel fine. If for older versions then make your table comma delimited data instead. This can be done through style sheets using XML.
Just some ideas. Without knowing more can't really help more.

Export Data to excel from JSP

how to ensure that my jsps are under orabpel. i m getting a javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: ejb/collaxa/system/DomainManagerBean not found exception wile invoking bpel process from jsp. I have created the jsps in Jdeveloper and i'm running it from there only.
Can u tell me a way to keep me application under orabpel

Securiety Settings in Microsoft Excel Prohibit XL Reporter from Running

Hi Forum,
I had little problem with XL Reporter. XL Reporter starts but when i am going to run reports, it gives me error .....
" Securiety Settings in Microsoft Excel Prohibit XL Reporter from Running ".
I have done below given things in Microsoft Excel
=> Excel -> Tools -> Macro -> Securiety -> Low(Not Recommended) and in Trusted Publishers - > this dialog box i have checked Trust Access to Visual Basic Projects.
After doing this i am not able to see / run reports in XL Reporter. Error Message still coming.
Your Expert Suggestions appriciated greatly.

I have done this but still problem not solved, it gives me below given error...
"A Required COM add-in program for XL Reporter has not been loaded and prohibits Microsoft Excel from Running"
