Iomega EZ Media & Backup center upgrade problems

Hello there.
When prompted by email to upgrade my Iomega NAS from 4.0.8.23976 to 4.1.104.31360, I followed the usual procedure of downloading the file to a PC, uploading it through the web interface to the disk, and clicking the button launching the update. However, this time uploading ends with message "The software could not be updated."
Unfortunately that's pretty much all I know since the message doesn't contain absolutely anything else.
Any ideas on what's going on?

When you download it are you un-compressing it at all? You do not want to do that if you are. Also, make sure the file is .tgz file.
When the file is downloaded with Internet Explorer, the file which shows as a .TGZ file, may be downloaded as a .GZ file. This is a product of file MIME types built into Internet Explorer. This file is still recognized by the device as an update file.

  • Edit files remotely Iomega EZ Media & Backup Center

    Hi,
I'm deciding which NAS to buy. I'm interested in Iomega EZ Media & Backup Center.
I want to know if it is possible to edit any files remotely (word, excel, autocad, corel, etc.) without having to previously download it to the pc I'm remotely accessing with.
I don't want to download the file, edit it, and then re-upload the edited file. Is too uncomfortable.
I have to use an app to do this or I can edit it directly from Windows Explorer or a web browser like Firefox?
Thinkin that maybe I'll access from a public pc and want to have the possibility to edit it directly.
    I'll appreciate any comments. Thanks

    Hello aleb21
You would need to install LSM on every remote pc/workstation to be able to mount/map the shares for file editing.
You can install LenovoEMC Link on your iOS and Android mobile devices.  The application is intended to allow you to open documents, however since the application functions the same as the web user interface it would be more for viewing documents not editing.  To edit files/documents you would need to download the file, edit on the mobile device, then upload the updated file to the NAS.
The video is correct, but does not go over the portion about connecting the remote computer using the personal cloud section of LSM.  Basically you would do the following:
    -Launch LSM
-Navigate to the Personal Cloud tab, click on "settings" on that tab.
-Enter the cloud name you created on the device's web ui.  It can take a few minutes to find the cloud in some situations.
-Enter your NAS credentials created on the NAS or that are included in the invite email sent from the NAS.
-Once connected LSM's default is to auto-map/mount the shares that your user as access for to the remote computer.  You can confirm this option by right clicking on the LSM system tray icon and make sure the "map drive letters" option is checked.  You can also access the shares via the share tab in LSM, this will open an explorer/find window for you to navigate through the shares.
WebDAV is seperate from the web user interface (home page and content explorer).  It would look similar to a basic FTP web interface when accessing via a browser.   Just like the FTP protocol you could theoretically map the connection to explorer/finder remotely as a web/internet location with your external ip address.  It should allow for remote editing.
For VPN, when accessing your cloud using LSM on a remote computer it would function like a VPN between your NAS and the remote computer.   If you want to use a 3rd party VPN and not use personal cloud it should be possible, but may require your router or computer on the network to actually manage the VPN software.
For the camera question, with your setup the nas would not be a part of it unless you have the ip camera's setup to save data to the NAS.  If that is the case you can setup the destination share the camera's are storing to for media sharing.  This would allow the Media Server feature to stream the saved videos locally and/or remotely.  Keep in mind that the media server feature does not do transcoding so the media receiver would need to support the file format the ip camera's store.
All lifeline os devices have a copy jobs backup option, however it does require knowledge of directory sharing from the source computer to work, see Host data backup using Copy Jobs
I personally recommend looking into the ix2-dl option as it:
    -is under $100 USD
-can support up to 2x 6TB hard disks w/ RAID 1, 0, and NONE (JBOD)
    -has support for SecureMind surveillance
-has a more powerful SoC processor
Hope this all helps with your decision.

    Hello,
I have a problem with playing video files with twonky server pre instaled on Iomega EZM. Video files are played correctly but no subtitles are visible. I installed the same server on ma PC and found out that ther reason is not correct tv profile for LG TV. There are two available LG DLNA Player and LG DLNA DMR and both are not working. Proper file should look like this:

Now I would like to update Twonky server with this file, but form manage center ther is no way, and twonky configuration site also not allows any actions of this kind.
So i think that best way would be to acces system patition by SSH and add this file. How can I do it?
SSH is active but i can't login as root - don't know pass, and any typical combination of root, admin, administrator etc doesn't work
I think it would solve problem for many users.
    Please help

You log into SSH with your administrator username, and the password has "soho" appended at the beginning. So, if the admin password is "1234", then
    e.g., username: admin  password: soho1234
** Disclaimer ** use at your own risk ! If you are not familiar with Linux admin, you might not want to mess around.

  • Iomega EZ Media Backup Center: Red light, HDD not working

Hello there, My nas does not work after a power outage, I would like to know how to change the HDD and install the firmware to use it again.
    Sry for my english!

    Hello luigylem
If your device is in warranty, you should contact LenovoEMC Support to check on what options may be available to you.  If your device is out of warranty,  I recommend checking here under the Iomega section for potential firmware downloads and guides on the process that would be needed to install the firmware on a new disk.

  • Connect Iomega EZ Media & & backup center directly to the computer

    hello,
Is it possible to directly connect this hard disk to the computer without internet box (router)?
    In advance thank you
    Sebastien
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You should be able to connect the Ethernet cable from the NAS directly to the computer, then you should be able to access it though Lenovo storage manager or by entering either the IP address or the device name in a browser URL bar. Typically, the device name is the model name.

  • Lenovo EZ Media & Backup Center and SRT subtitle

When playing movies using the built in DLNA feature, will it be compatible with srt (or any other kind) subtitle?
In other words, if I store a movie with any kind of subtitle inside Lenovo EZ Media & Backup Center, and use a smart tv to play this movie by DLNA, will the subtitles be played?

    Hello all,
When adding new .srt files to the Lifeline device running twonky,  please be sure that the file name matches the video's file name except for the extension.
If the subtitles are not detected, try running a Twonky database repair from the lifeline web interface
(All Features> Media Server > Settings > "Repair Database")  This is mentioned in past official twonky release notes for .srt files.

  • Lenovo ez media & backup center 3TB speeds

With media server disabled i am getting aroung 25MBs write to the NAS. i got a replacmnebt after the old IOMEGA 2TB got damaged. are those speed ok ? the old IOMEGA 2TB NAS gave me around 35MBs, with same setup and network.

No one ? what are your avarage EZ Network speeds with windows file sharing ?

  • Lenovo ez media backup center 2TB usb size limit

i 've just bought a new WD USB essential 3TB version can i plug it in my nas for make back up or is 3TB not supported? i havent tested it yet cuz if the drive isnt recognized then i bring it back, otherwise once open the shop wont give my money back.
    GRAZIE

The EZ media only officially supports 2TB USB. If you want to be on the safe side you may want to exchange it.

  • Media backup  Before upgrading to system 5

It takes forever to backup. Can I speed it up?

I think the point is that any Library, if all the Originals (heh) are Managed, will be larger than the same Library with some of the Originals Referenced.
I run mixed Libraries, but with 80% or more of the Images having Referenced Originals.  I made a separate "slice in time" back-ups of my Aperture Libraries prior to converting them to the 3.3 format.  I could do that on a single (large) drive -- about five times smaller than the aggregate sum of all the Libraries + Referenced Originals.

  • Turning Media Server on makes Lenovo EZ Media and Backup Center un-usable

I have a Lenovo EZ MEdia and BAckup Center. It was sent to me (under warranty)  to replace an Iomega model which failed.
If I turn on Media Server the device becomes un-usable. Logging onto the device and then selecting any operation takes 5 to 10 Minutes for each interaction. All windows network drives configured to the device become inaccessible.
When I turn it off then I can access all my windows networked drives again and I can log on and interact with the device without problem. Obviously anything which needs the media server function can no longer see the device.
I have the latest firmware 4.1.106.31982
This problem really needs fixing. I will be looking for another device if this carries on

    Hello wafitz
I seems you are experiencing a variation of this issue "Media scan causes the device interface to become unavailable".
I have also seen similar situations that happened when data is added to the unit when media server is enabled.
This could cause media server to potentially lock and cause performance issues to the rest of the unit.

  • Iomega Home media network drive & Time machine backups

First timer guys, so go easy. :-)
I have macbook pro. Upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion couple of days ago. I have Iomega Home media network drive NAS box which I had setup for Leopard and my backups via time machine were working perfectly. I could also mount the shares on the Iomega box on my macbook. Post upgrade to Lion, I can access the shares on my MAC (over smb) but backups not working anymore. Apparently Lion requires shares to be accessible over afp only. I have confirmed Iomega box is compatible with smb as well as afp shares and I even tried manually mounting those shares using command, still no luck.
Command I'm trying to mount afp shares & the error -
    bash-3.2# mkdir -p /mnt/backups
    bash-3.2# mount_afp afp://username:[email protected]/backups /mnt/backups
mount_afp: AFPMountURL returned error -5019, errno is -5019
    bash-3.2# echo $?
    101
    bash-3.2#
Can't see any references to this error. I see few links that ask to carry out some clumsy steps to sort this out. That's not working either for me.
On a sidenote, why mac doesn't have /etc/fstab? Any alternatives?
Appreciate any kind of help here.
    Cheers.

    Hi,
    Have you fixed your problem?
I have the same configuration, and I can't finish a backup. Every time, I have the message, "Try again a new backup".

  • Problems using TimeMachine from two Macs to IOMega Home Media Drive

    Hi,
This has been driving me crazy for a couple of weeks now, so I'm hoping that someone here can point me in the right direction.
I have a PPC G5 and my wife uses an iMac. I recently bought an IOMega Home Media Drive and wanted to use it with TimeMachine. I set up the G5 and got that working, but when I tried to add my wife's iMac I've had nothing but problems.
I tried resetting the IOMega back to factory defaults, deleting and then re-creating the backups folder, using usernames and passwords or a guest account, and nothing seems to work. I occasionally do something that breaks it on the G5 (running 10.5.8) but I have been able, for the most part, to get it working again, but it's never worked from my wife's iMac (running 10.6.2).
I even tried creating the sparsebundles by hand and copying them in which seemed to work on the G5 but not on the iMac. I thought that the problem might be trying to back up two systems to the same share, but I'm not sure how to split them. Is there a way to create separate backup shares on the IOMega (which seems to connect using AFP even though I've seen references to SMB in some of the forums) so that each system would use its own? Is there a general problem when trying to back up two Macs to the same network share?
The error that I tend to get is that the "backup volume is read only". On the iMac the current error I'm getting, after creating the hostname.sparsebundle image (oddly enough when TimeMachine tried creating it yesterday it dropped the MAC address...not sure why), is: "/Volumes/backups-1/hostname.sparsebundle could not be created (error 45)."
Any help would be greatly appreciated, this has been very frustrating.
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi,
You don't want to hear this, but Time Machine does not back up to network drives, except Time Capsules or a shared drive on another Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard on the same local network. It will often back-up to a USB drive connected to an Airport Extreme, but even that is, technically, unsupported, and may require running a special Terminal command to make it work.
    Here's the official word: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1733
You may find some hardware or "hacks" that might make it work, in some cases, to a degree. But use them at your own risk.
First, since this is *unsupported by Apple,* there's nowhere to go when there's trouble.
Second, you're risking a future update preventing it from working, and perhaps rendering your backups useless.
No guarantees, of course, but this might help: https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/iomegana_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=22012&p_created=1246919828&p_sid=KBbtj nNj&p_accessibility=&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PWRmbHQmcF9 ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTEwLDEwJnBfcHJvZHM9MTAzMSwxMDQzJnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0yLjE wNDMmcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF9 0ZXh0PXRpbWUgbWFjaGluZQ**&p_li=&ptopview=1
