IOS 7 mail app security concerns

I just witnessed something that made me very concerned about the iOS 7 Mail App security. I was changing my mail account password. (I am still stuck with a Hotmail account.) So after I changed my Hotmail account password in a desktop web browser, I was expecting to do the same on my iPhone. But, what I observed totally shocked me -- I was still able to receive and send emails from my iPhone using the Apple Mail App (that still had my old password!) for some time before the Mail app crashed and only when I restarted it, it then prompted me for a password.
Now picture a more dire situation. Someone steals my iPhone. I immediately log in to Hotmail and change my password. But the thief with my iPhone can still send and receive emails from my Hotmail account. I don't need to go any further with what this can lead to, right!

If a thief steals your phone, then hopefully you put a passcode lock on your phone, and are also using Find My iPhone.
Guys, don't lead it in the wrong direction. This is not about setting up the passcode. Obviously that is the way to protect your data. But as you probably heard from Apple themselves about half of people who use iOS devices don't have passlocks set up. At this point I'm concerned why the Mail App lets me send and receive emails with the old password?

IOS 8 mail app only archives even when set to delete for gmail

iOS 8 and Gmail is behaving oddly with regard to delete and is still only archiving them. Option IS set to the delete option in the account setup and not archive. I have read the Apple guideance documents on deleting and archiving in Gmail accounts.
In iOS mail app in gmail account , long swipe left (delete), short swipe left then choose trash and short swipe and choose move to trash all have the same effect on message. The message disppears from inbox and if you look in the trash folder for the gmail account you momentarily see message as it syncs with server then the message disappears from trash folder. (looking directly at server shows message not present).
However looking at the "All mail" gmail folder shows message STILL present there.
Compare with the iOS Gmail app. Delete a message from inbox and it appears in trash folder and stays there. At this time it is also still present in the All Mail folder. Choose then to delete forever option and disappears from both Trash AND the All Mail folder.
iOS Mail app with Gmail accounts appears with the TRASH option only to move emails to trash locally but then as soon as sync with server it disappears from the Trash folder with no further action but remains in the All Folder. This is in effect an Archive. It should
work as as the Gmail iOS app - messages deleted or trashed are moved to Trash (from where they can be restored ) and remain there till deleted permantly manually or the Trash can is automatically purged after set time on server.

Seems to work properly for me. Are we looking at the same place? to instruct it to Delete instead of Archive:

Using Gmail Aliases with iOS 8 Mail App

I'm wondering if there is any way to use gmail aliases with the default mail app. I've already tried the methods listed on these two sites:

I can already send from a few different aliases with the default mail app on Mac. I have two step authentication setup on on my gmail account so I've these methods with both my normal password and app specific passwords generated by Google. Is there something that I'm missing?

Ios 8 mail app and music issues

AFter installing ios8 my mail app has practically stopped working. The mails are just not opening. I have to go to safari to hotmail instead. Then i uploaded a lot of music last night and realised this morning not all songs synced. And i tried to add them today but it wont let me!! Really annoyed. Updated to ios 8.0.2 this morning and nothing has changed or improved. So annoyed now . Apple when will these issues be sorted??

Oh, I had the same problem with the music. I had told it to sync all of my music, but it didn't.
To solve this, I went to the "Music" tabs, unticked "Sync Music", then apply it (yes, this will delete the music off the iPhone). Then (even though it looks like the music is still there), Then tick the "Sync Music" and apply that, and it should sync the music

IOS 5 Mail app always push mail

I have set 2 mailbox with Exchange settings in the mail app on my iPhone 4S (iOS 5.0.1)
As I was on holiday I have set the mail settings to disable PUSH and enable FETCH with the schedule "hourly"
BUT I have figured out that I am receiving the email still as push and not only downloaded hourly.
Now I am back in the office and I have tested it.
If the mail app is running I am receiving the email even faster (2-3 seconds) than my computer with Outlook running and connected to the Exchange server local...
If the mail app is NOT running I am receiving the emails a little bit later, like 20-30 seconds after they arrive in Outlook.
BUT not JUST only hourly.
Here are my settings:
How is it?! Bug?

Works as designed? If push is available it doesn't count what are the other settings it will drain battery and use as push?
That cannot be, if I am on holiday or in the office before my laptop I didn't want to receive my business mails with push.
If I am abroad yes, for this I will use "push ON"...
But for other just "fetch hourly"

Good suggestion. Tried it but unfortunately it didn't work. it recreates the Outbox directory in ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes when I open it. The directory no longer has anything in it (ie no info.plist of Massages folder).
But when I am in Mail.app it still has a message in the outbox. I have to delete it quickly when I open Mail.app, otherwise it will send it.
After I delete it, the window has no messages in it, but on the left the mailbox has a '1' in circle next to it. When I click on another mailbox then click back on Outbox, a 'new' (but previously sent) email is there ready to resend.
I'm using IMAP and my Mail.app at home does not have this problem (both machines are using Leopard 10.5.3)

IOS SIMULATOR MAIL APP

Hi.
I start to use Xcode and especially IOS Simulator (Xcode 4.3.2) on OSX LION 10.7.3.
I'd like to know if it's possible to use mail apps on IOS Simulator ? It's not installed by defaut.
I need it to check what looks like newsletter on ipad, iphone ... I send to my client without using each device. I was thinking about using mail apps on ios simulator but I don't know if it's possible.
If yes, can someone explain the procedure to install mail app on IOS simulator ?

The mail application is not available on the simulator. You will need to test your application on a device to test that part.

Ios 5 mail app delete behavior

I have gmail set up as an exchange account in the native mail app on a iphone 4s with the latest ios 5.
what is the default behavior of deleting email with the mail app? is it configurable?
I ask since on my iphone 3gs (w/ ios 5) it removes the mail from the inbox and leaves it in all mail. But for my wife's 4s it is seemingly moving it to the trash.

ok im back and i have figured out the problem and solution.
as im so used to high lighting the emails individually, i've been doing the same in trash and this causes a number to slowly build next to an empty trash folder. if i select delete all then all hte emails and the number disappear. problem solved.

IOS 7 Mail App, my gmail has 10,000 unread messages

In the mail app, my gmail says I have 10,473 unread messages,
I have deleted the gmail account and created a new account. This did not fix,
on my phone all the message appear to all be marked as read. However, the inbox says 10K unread messages,

I posted this elsewhere on here. Apple has an issue with the new email client.
I've made 5 calls to Apple support and have escalated this as far as possible by phone. It has now been escalated to the next group, and I was informed they don't work by phone. Some basics;
1. Didn't have this problem on ios 6
2. I have three POP accounts with the same server (verizon)
3. This only happens on 2 of the 3 accounts.
4. "Mark All" and "As read" doesn't fix it.
5. Deleting some emails on the server doesn't fix it.
6. Marking all the emails as "read" on the server (via web client) doesn't work.
7. 2nd level support's answer was to just delete the emails off the server (that ain't happening).
So that's where we are

IOS 5 - mail app crashes

I just upgraded my phone to iOS 5. My phone now 'crashes' out of the mail app shortly after it is launched... goes back to home screen repeatedly after about 2-3 seconds.

I have the same issue, which appears to affect some hardware versions and not others, all when using iOS 5.1.1. After two trips to the Genius Bar and DFU restores, I have proven to them that the problem is not related to any third party software, but begins when you configure your Mail 5.1.1 to "Fetch new data". It causes crashing of most apps, and proven batteries to flatten in 90 to 120 minutes. The only work around I have is to enter the mail config "Fetch new data" screen and set "Push" to off, and set schedule to "Manually", and wait for Apple to release a patch. Until then you have no mail, unless you are willing to occasionally enable, check and log out quickly before your battery runs out. Testing showed the problem comes and goes reliably by toggling changes of this setting.

IPhone iOS 7 mail app takes 3.6gb memory off 12.9gb

This is dragging my iPhone really bad. How can I limit this Mail App to a much lower usage on my iPhone's memory. Nothing related to iCloud storage.

I've given up trying to use flags on all Apple devices and computers. Its never been able to carry flags across iOS devices and Mac's and now mine won't even reflect in the flagged folder on my iPad what's flagged mail on the same iPad. The Mail app is very basic and has become less and less useful with every update.

IPad Mini with iOS E-mail app

I'm using the iOS app for email because I like the clean layout.
I use it with gmail, however I don't receive the emails right away.
It is really annoying having to refresh to check for new emails instead of getting a 'pling' and a notification.

I purchased this device 2 months ago when the Apple genius told me the Health app was being released with iOS 8
assuming anything running iOS 8 would have the app. not just the iPhone.
I hope Apple transfer the app to the iPad like all good Apps developers do !!!!

I just updated my iphone to ios 6. Trying to reply and send email, but am not sure how since the reply button and compose email buttons seem to be no more.

Just spoke with tech support and it seems that this is an update issue. Those reply and compose message icons should be there, but for some reason are not showing up on any of my mail accounts. The support rep has told me to "restore" my iphone. Never had to do that before so am a bit nervous.
Wish me luck. I'll keep everyone posted on the results.

I found a solution to the phantom unread email. Download the yahoo App from the App Store and don't use the iOS 7 mail App

The Apple customer support was unable to fix it, as numerous blogs say.

Has no one found any solutions to this?
Or at least what causes it (so that it might be avoided)?
I find it difficult to believe this issue has existed so long in iOS without being addressed!

Font size bug in iOS 7.0.4 mail app?

Hi,
I experience a strange behaviour with iOS 7 mail app. When I try to read a plaintext mail with the iPhone in portrait orientation the font size is oddly big. I can "zoom" in with a two finger pinch but I cannot zoom out to decrease the font size.
Is this a bug, a setting I activated somewhere, a silly feature?

Yes, the time and date is correct. It just started happening a few days ago and has bene like this since. I cant even open the mail, because theirs no content in them. Nor can i delete it.
