IOs Numbers spreadsheet pdf export

When I try to email a pdf of one particular spreadsheet it gets hung up in the Outbox with the error message "Cannot Send Mail - An error occurred while delivering this message"
Any idea where to begin? I have attempted creating a copy of the spreadsheet...same result. Would love to know what is causing this so I can avoid the mistake on spreadsheets that may involve considerable time and effort...

  • Wrong page numbers on PDF export (ID CS5.5)

The Export to PDF out of a book document (with 12 single documents in it) results in wrong pagination (30, 31, 33, 31, 35, 31 ...). Direct Export out of the same single document is right. I cannot see any difference between the single docs, but the phenomen is only in some parts of the book.
What is the thing about this? Did anybody have similar effects?
    Thanks for any idea!

I had started to look at this over the weekend (thanks, Sarah, for sending along the files), and didn't get a chance to come back to it.
Looking at it now, there are several interesting things.
I think the first is that if I use Sarah's book file, I see the problem. But if I create my own book file from the constitutent documents, I do not see the problem.
Tentative conclusion is that this is an issue with the book file, not with the documents.
The next observation is that the two book files, Sarah's and Mine, are not very different. At least by some metrics. While in a literal sense, 10195/69632 bytes do differ (15%), if I look at ASCII text, the story is a bit different. Running the "strings" command on both of them to extract the alphanumeric-looking stuff in the files, and then diffing them, there are only 8 differences (technically 8 "hunks" as reported by diff). They are:
    1. "FgPM" at the beginning instead of "FgPM" in mine.
    2. com.apple.print.PageFormat.PMAdjustedPageRect is a real number 0.0 in Sarah's, and an integer 0 in mine.
    3. com.apple.print.ticket.stateFlag's <inteer>0</integer> has a linebreak across it (or something) in mine
    4. com.apple.print.PaperInfo.PMUnadjustedPageRect< is a real number 0.0 in Sarah's and an integer 0 in mine.
    5. com.apple.print.PrintSettings.PMColorSyncProfileID is 1294 for Sarah and 1580 for me.
    6. another linebreak issue with a second rference to com.apple.print.ticket.stateFlag.
    7.  My default printer name and the fact that its an HP Laserjet 8150 is substitued for Sarah's C280 and the fact that it is or has a Fiery E10 50-45C-KM PS Color Server1.1 along
    8. The pathname to the constituent files within the book is different, and mine does not have a reference to Process Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black that Sarah's does.
    That's it.
Not totally sure what to make of it, really. I suppose I would suggest trying to change your default printer before File > New Book and see if you can find a way to make that matter...

  • Why export a Numbers spreadsheet to iTunes?

iOS5 allows you to export a numbers spreadsheet to iTunes.
When you do, you can find it in the iTunes app on your iPad, but does it ever get sync'd with iTunes on your PC?
If so, does this happen now wirelessly?
and where would I find it on my PC?
Does it get shared, e.g., with an iPhone on the same wifi?
Finally, why export to iTunes rather than the other export options?
    Appreciate your insights...thanks.

It is not in the iTunes.app on your iPad.. It is copied into the iwork app itself ( they have hidden "document" folders ) , so that iTunes on your PC/Mac "knows" there is a file to share whenever the device is connected.
If so, does this happen now wirelessly?
Wifi as well as Cable, no matter what method you prefer. But the files does not auto-transfer to iTunes on your Mac/PC. You need to look into the "apps" section within iTunes, at the lower part all the apps are listed that support files import/export . Files you saved "to iTunes" will appear in the listed apps. You can then save the file to your Mac/PC - to whatever folder you like. Vice versa you can "add files" to the apps, and then on your iOS device open them again via the "open from iTunes" dialog.
Don't be fooled by the "Itunes" naming - iTunes used this way acts as a file manager.
and where would I find it on my PC?
see above. in iTunes - > in your device listed in iTunes -- the "apps" tab.
Finally, why export to iTunes rather than the other export options?
to create a copy on your Mac/PC in either pdf, ms office or mac iwork formats. For whatever reasons you like.
This iTunes procedure was the only one to get files out of iOS apps before the cloud appeared. You have to know that Apple restricts files and folders in iOS. It is a locked down system. Apps can't freely share files between them or to the OS . So this iTunes sharing is the only official allowed way ( also technically unless you "jailbreak" )
iCloud is easier and supposed to replace this rather clumsy sharing stuff.. you would store your documents automatically to the cloud and on PC/Mac you simply navigate to www.icloud.com/iwork and can download them in the format you want to your Office Computer.. BUT .. iTunes "old school" is RELIABLE.. iCloud is not ( yet )

  • How can I format my Numbers spreadsheet into a PDF file

How can I change my Numbers spreadsheet into  a PDF format so that people to whom I send it can open it on their PC?

You can also "share" via iCloud.
The recipient can view it (and edit it, unless you specify read only) using a modern browser on a Mac or PC. The recipient does not need to have an iCloud account..

  • I am trying to export a Numbers spreadsheet to a csv file, but it does not put the commas in

I am trying to export a Numbers spreadsheet to a csv file, but it does not put the commas in.  I want to use it with an HTML table generator tool, but the tool is looking for commas.   The Export to CSV exports it as a spreadsheet with all the formatting removed, and no commas.
Here is the html table tool:
    http://www.textfixer.com/html/csv-convert-table.php

Numbers '09 create CSV files with comma separated values if and only if your system is using decimal period.
If the system is using decimal comma, the CSV files are created using semi-colon as separator.

  • Moving Numbers Spreadsheet to IOS

How does one move Numbers spreadsheets from a MacBook Pro (Numbers) to an iPad?
The iPad has Pages but I cannot locate an IOS Numbers application on the iPad. Does something have to be purchased or added to the iPad?
    Thank you.

    You can use file sharing.
    see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4088
You can also use iCloud to sync files between the two apps on your computer and iPad.

  • IOS 7.0.3 upgrade hoses Numbers Spreadsheets

I got a notice that IOS 7.0.3 was available for my iPad.  I read the details of what the upgrade does, and decided to install it.  Then when I went to open a Numbers spreadsheet, a message was displayed saying that after I open the spreadsheet on the iPad, I will not be able to open it on a Mac until and unless I install Mavericks on the Mac as well as a new version of Numbers.
BE WARNED.  I myself do not have Mavericks because upgrading is a major pain.  I am holding off pending the possible purchase of a new MacBook Pro.  If that is your situation as well, DO NOT install IOS7.0.3.

I took my phone in to the Apple store. It turns out my Exchange and iCloud accounts were screwing each other up, so I couldn't connect to both servers. To get around it, I had to delete my Exchange account, and now it works like a charm.
If you go this route, you may want to take screen shots of your Exchange server info and email them to yourself before deleting the account.

  • Which functions and features in Numbers are NOT exported correctly to Excel?

I wish to know EXACTLY which functions I use in a Numbers sheet WILL FAIL to export correctly to an Excel or Neoffice spreadsheet.
For instance, I created a Numbers spreadsheet using prolific use of the IFERROR function. However, when I EXPORT to XLS, all the cells that used the IFERROR function were replaced by the literal value of the cell. My IFERROR formulae were not EXPORTED as I had expected.
I note that some formulae were converted correctly in my EXPORTED spreadsheet: eg MAX, MIN, AVERAGE.
I understand that IFERROR was a function introduced recently to Excel, ie in the 2007 version. Consequently, I suspect that Numbers exports to a pre-2007 version of Excel. If so, which version?
I have found this list that shows which functions are compatable amongst various versions of Excel:
    Excel Functions: Compatibility Reference (2010, 2007 & 2003). (n.d.). Retrieved from https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsHau4_IeCfwdG45c0VhcjBBUGNreVo2ZzN NRU1BT0E#gid=0
This list shows that, for instance, IFERROR exisits inb both Excel 2007 and Numbers-09. So why is IFERROR not exported?
Curmi, J. (n.d.). Summary of function in excel and numbers-09. Retrieved from http://curmi.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/functions-in-excel-and-numbers- 09.pdf
Some examples of my use of ISERROR in Numbers are as follows:
    =IFERROR(RANK(C47,$C47:$J47,1),"")
    =IFERROR(MEDIAN(C51:C58),"")
    =IFERROR($C32-C88+1,"")
I use the above function to  carry out the calculation ONLY IF  a cell is non-blank and contains a number.
    More questions
What are the rules that Numbers uses to convert to Excel?
Is Numbers converting to the 2003 version of Excel? ... or an earlier version? ... which version?
Why desn't Numbers advise me there were conversion errors or simplifications made?
eg: "Cell A33 Function IFERROR was exported to the cell value for Excel"
Is there a preference that I can select which version of Excel that Numbers will export to?
In the meantime, I must abandon Numbers and use NeoOffice!

    Thanks,
I applied your suggested ISERROR transformation to examples such as:
    =IFERROR(RANK(C47,$C47:$J47,1),"")
    =IFERROR(MEDIAN(C51:C58),"")
    =IFERROR($C32-C88+1,"")
However, a caution for young players....
Certainly, the ISERROR function exports to .xls. However, it behaves differently in NeoOffice.
Items 1 and 2 function identically in the case of say, ranking a row in which some cells are blanks.
Item 3, when translated using ISERROR to =IF(ISERROR(C32-C88+1),"", C32-C88+1), results in "" (ie error is raised) in Numbers but yields figure 0 in NeoOffice when there is a blank in either of the cells.
I  recall from programming school in the mid-1970s that using GOTO statements and On Error branch statements were not admissible as routine programming steps. In fact, we received an automatic fail grade if we used a GOTO or GOTO like construction. So, I have found a more programmatically elegant way to solve my problem: eg:
    =IF(C88="","",C32-C88+1)
Curiously, earlier I found/suspect this does not work equivalently in Numbers and NeoOffice:
    =IF(ISBLANK(C88),"",C32-C88+1)
When you try using ISBLANK you always get an intuitively unexpected result because ISBLANK ONLY gives TRUE when there is absolutely nothing in a cell. A Formula reference in the cell, even if the function result yields "", gives FALSE... because, according to the definition of ISBLANK the cell contains a formula.
As I tell my students, ALWAYS lookup the HELP on any function you use. ALWAYS test the function to see how it performs!.... and lesson 3: Always test your spreadsheet on different systems.... then hope!

  • Emailing a Numbers Spreadsheets to Windows PC without error

I'm very new to Mac and iWork09/Numbers 09 and need assistance
I've created a few spreadsheets in Numbers 09 and sent them out via attachment in a group email to friends, clients and family, most PC users, well I keep getting replies that they can't open the attachments in Windows.
When I send the email, it ask it I want to send a Windows friendly version, I've clicked yes to do that but still having problems opening. Is this fixable? If so can I get some help here....thx

Numbers is required to open Numbers spreadsheets.
So, before sending some of them to WindowsLand, you must export as XL or as PDF.

  • Thin grid lines in PDF export

I am using the current version of Numbers (3.2).
The problem I am facing is that it seems to be impossible to export a spreadsheet with invisible grid lines to a PDF. Every time I do so, thin (I guess 1px) grid lines appear in the PDF where the should be none. I attached two images of a simple test sheet: The first picture is Numbers, the second is the resulting PDF export.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks!

    1) select the table, then
    2) use the cell formatter to set the border type to none
    3) apply the border all inside edges
