Iowait time out warnings in my alert log…

New sqlplus connections were failing when
Checked the alert log I see warnings…
And some wait events in v$session_wait…
So what could be the reason… will this be resolved if I add more redo log groups…. Or is the problem some where else if so what should I look more.

There seems to be a serious problem with your I/O system. Check for disk corruption or known OS issues. Have you patched the OS?
For less ideal solutions, you could try out following options:
1-
Set this parameter, and restart the instance
disk_asynch_io = false
dbwr_io_slaves=10
2- Increase the size of Buffer cache and sort area size
3- restart the instance

  • Memory warnings in alert log

    Hi,
We are using Oracle Enterprise 11.2.0.3 and the dba is reporting memory warnings in the alert log on continual nightly basis over last week.
No difference in volume of data being processed or programs so not sure why this is the case - aplogioes don't have details of error to hand.
We run many processees in parallel - database set for auto-parallelism (PARALLEL_DEGREE_POLICY=AUTO) and 3rd party reporting tool relies on this for spped of reports aganist partitoned tables.
Our data loads complete fine despite these messages.
Dba has asked if we can reduce what being done during these times or reduce the number of proceses
Are there any database parameters which can be set to manage memory such that database doesn't exhaust available memory in this way.
We want the database to manage the workload automatically ( would hope via parameter tuning in partciluar of the parameters related to parallel query this would be possible).
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Aplogies for delya.
Here is the message from alert log
ORA-04031: unable to allocate 512024 bytes of shared memory ("large pool","unknown object","large pool","PX msg pool")
And this is repeated many times in the log.
On IBM Power Series 7 hardware AIX operating system.
    Oracle version 11.2.0.3
Any ideas to allow database to manage memory more effectively when many paralllel queries runing - tuning of parallel-related parameters - which ones?
Thanksresults when reasoning is as follows
Parallel must be faster than no parallel
higher degree of parallel must be faster than lower value.
if/when you reduce parallel activities, then this error no longer occurs.

It just a warning. I would read these two notes:
I suspect the OP is more worried about the apparent two minute gap between the "cannot switch" and the "advanced" at     19:39:18 and 19:41:12 respectively. Did the switch really have to wait for that two minutes, or is this a spurious threat caused by an anomaly in the writing of the alert log.
As a cross check, I would examine v$event_histogram (or an AWR/Statspack for the interval) for time spent in the event "log file switch (private strand flush incomplete)". In prinicple I wouldn't expect to see waits longer than a few (less than 10) milliseconds; if the histogram shows long waits consistent with the alert log reports than I'd contact Oracle because something odd is happening.
(Footnote - it's possible that the event times out after a limited interval, log file sync used to time out after 1 second and has recently changed to something shorter and adjustable, so 2 seconds may (for example) appear as 20 x 0.1 seconds.)

When oralce starts every first time, oracle does create a alert log file and whenever oracle wants to update the alertlog file, it updates the existing one and in case of missing alert log, it re-create the alert log and updates it.

alert log contains database activities list carried out in the related database.
trace file can be generated due to number of reasons, like, hardware problems, due to oracle internal errors, user errors, whenever you trace a session and etc.

  • Find time when DB went down (nothing in alert log).

    hello all,
is there any way to tell when the DB went down. Yesterday we had some outage in our datacenter and it took down one of our servers. And this morning i started the DB and they went up fine with no problem. But is there any way to find out when the DB went down (there was nothing written in the alert log)...and our sysadmin is on Vac...and the management wants me to find out when the server/database went down...does oracle record this thing any place in the DB besides the alert log ?? we are on 10.2.0.3 on hp-ux. We can look at the OS to find this out, but as mentioned our sysadmin is out and dont have access to root...

    Hello user630084,
Pls try this. I had to check the same on one of our client boxes without unix access and I used the below to find. it worked for me.
    (10.2.0.4 version)
SELECT SCN_TO_TIMESTAMP(TIMESTAMP_TO_SCN(startup_time)) "DB Shutdown Time" , startup_time "DB Startup Time" FROM v$instance
Hope this works for u aswell.

  • Server.app can't load alerts and throws out error getAndLockContext: flock(servermgr_info) FATAL time out

    Hi everybody,
I did a working migration of my Lion Server stating all services has been migrated successfully!
All my used services are running fine (dns, mail, iCal, dhcp, web, VPN, adressbook, profilemanger, sharing, opendirectory) but using server.app causes an error while server.app seems to load the alerts section without success throwing out some message windows and those messages in my log console
servermgrd[36677] [36677] error in getAndLockContext: flock(servermgr_info) FATAL time out
servermgrd[24195] [24195] process will force-quit to avoid deadlock
    com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.servermgrd[24195]) Exited with exit code: 1
Servermgrd process goes up to 100% and you have to quit server.app to calm it down.
Anyone got a similar error or knows any workaround to abandon this error?
    Thanks and regards
    Eldrik

RB jp's solution (move the /var/log/eventmonitor folder) solved my problem completely.
Not only did Server.app suddenly become response again, the spinner trying to access alerts stopped spinning.
Best of all, the servermgrd daemon stopped crashing every two minutes!  There were messages in system.log that read:
error in getAndLockContext: flock(servermgr_info) FATAL time out
server servermgrd[38070]: [38070] process will force-quit to avoid deadlock
Those are now gone.  Server is happy again.

  • Session time out and automatic log off

    hi,
I have been using JSC for a while but I am not JSC guru.
I want to implement automatic logoff when the session timesout. I know that I can set session time out in tomat web.xml file. but I cant understand how to check if the session time is out and logOff the user.
When user logs in, username is stored in the database, so when the user logoff the username has to be deleted from the database and he should be redirected to the login page. I want all this to be done automatically when session times out(i.e if the user is inactive for specified amount of time).
Any help is greatly appreciated. Please reply ASAP, i need to get this working by tommorow.

  • Time-out checking log bucket location.

    Hi,
Earlier this month, I successfully ran the OSB Cloud Module for Amazon S3 installer. It created a "new registration for this S3 user" with a new "Registration ID". It also generated an "S3 Logging Bucket" with a name based off of my Amazon nickname which at the time of running the Cloud module installer was "javanetworking".
    $ *./osbws_install.sh*

Creating new registration for this S3 user.
    Created new log bucket.

    Validating log bucket location ...
    Validating license file ...
    Create credential oracle.security.client.connect_string1
OSB web-services wallet created in directory /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs/osbws_wallet.

    Download complete.
    Extracted file /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/lib/libosbws12.so
Since then, I have changed my Amazon nickname (https://www.amazon.com/gp/nickname/index.html"). I was hoping to re-run the Cloud module installer and have it generate a new "S3 Logging Bucket". I removed the two S3 buckets that were created in the initial Cloud module install (the data and log buckets).
However, when I attempt to re-run the Cloud module installer, it complains that it cannot find the original "S3 Logging Bucket":
    $ *./osbws_install.sh*
Oracle Secure Backup Database Web-Service Install Tool, build 2011-02-04.0001
    AWS credentials are valid.
    S3 user already registered.
    Registration ID: xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
    S3 Logging Bucket: *oracle-log-javanetw-1*
    Validating log bucket location ...
    Time-out checking log bucket location.
    Please try again later.
I even tried using the *-newLogBucket* option to osbws_install.jar so it would force the creation of new log bucket; however, it doesn't appear to do anything. It still complains about not finding the original S3 Logging Bucket.
I thought the best option would be to "un-register" the Amazon S3 user the installer generated. There is no documented option in osbws_install.jar to perform a full "un-install" or "un-register". The Registration ID the installer creates appears to be hard-coded metadata somewhere in Amazon S3.
    +AWS credentials are valid.+
    +S3 user already registered.+
    +Registration ID: xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx+
I know that the registration information is not stored with your OTN profile because I tried putting in a fake OTN username/password when calling osbws_install.jar. It doesn't use the OTN username/password because it first uses your AWSID/AWSKey to see if there is information that the S3 user is already registered. Once it determines that the S3 account is already registered, it doesn't need to log in to OTN and displays:
    *S3 user already registered.*
I did try this and it worked for modifying the backup bucket (OSB_WS_BUCKET) but didn't appear to work for the S3 Logging Blucket (_OSB_WS_LOG_BUCKET).
    1.) Manually re-create the missing S3 Logging Bucket (oracle-log-javanetw-1).
2.) Run the Cloud module installer so it creates the wallet, configFile, and downloads the library.
3.) Determine list of valid parameters that can be set in the configFile:

    So,
1.) Is the *-newLogBucket* option broke or an unimplemented method?
2.) Is there a way to "un-register" or modify the S3 registration information so that the Cloud module installer will register a new S3 user? (i.e. starting from scratch)
It would seem to me that a user might want to completely uninstall and un-register at some time in the future.
3.) Where is the "Registered S3 User" metadata stored?
4.) Can you specify the S3 Logging Bucket (and data bucket) during the install?
There is a similar post which the user ran into the same issue when removing the S3 Logging Bucket.

    Hi again,
my problem seems to be caused by us having deleted the bucket at an earlier stage. When we ran the installer script again, the installer was confused by this, and was not able to re-create a bucket.

  • Need to have an alert sound when the program I'm working in times out

I work at the Univ of Utah. We have a program that times out after 40 mins. I've been told by the campus IT folks that Firefox does not supply an alert sound option for this type of situation. Is this information correct? If not, where do I find the option to have an alert sound?

    Thanks! - worked great!!!...
I checked out the onStatus function in the help documentation
before I posted the thread, but didn't understand how to use it.
Based on your code below, I still kind of don't (even though the
    code works fine)...
Can you kind of explain, line by line, what's going on in the
little tidbit of code that you wrote. That way I'm not just fishing
for help blindly, and I can actually learn something so I don't
have to bother people in these forums in the future (and maybe help
    others!)
Thanks again, Leo - much appreciated!!!...

I was watching a movie on my Apple TV and suddenly it stopped. I noticed I was logged out. Then I tried logging in again and I keep getting a message "cannot connect to iTunes". I restarted the Apple TV three times and tried again each time. I am stuck  Help please

There's an issue currently that a lot of us are experiencing in that we all get the error message "iTunes is currently unavailable; please try later"
It's an issue with Apple and we're awaiting an update re this
I've posted a topic in regards to this after having a long conversation with Apple support this morning and will be receiving a call from their tech team tomorrow to run through it further
As it stands iTunes cannot be accessed via ATV's and nor can it be streamed via AirPlay from iTunes to the ATV
However I can access all films/iCloud content via my Mac Mini with no issues!
