IP address always changing on FiOS router for Brother Wirless Printer

I am probably missing something relatively basic and networking is not my area of expertise so I am looking for some assistance.  I have FiOS setup and working great my issue is with connecting my Brother HL-2170W wireless printer to the wireless network.  I can get the printer connected to the wifi network just fine my issue is the IP address appears to be constantly changing everytime I turn the printer on - I am guessing based on whats available within the range and whats connected?
Anyhow the printer does appear in my network control panel 192.168.1.1 etc but the last digit of the IP address changes.  I am not sure where the issue is but I don't seem to be able to communicate with the printer from my PC running XP Pro.  The only way I can get the printer to work with my computer is to go into my FiOS network control find the IP address its connected with and manually enter it in the printer settings on the computer.  How do I set this up so I don't have to do this?  There is obviously something I am missing or didn't setup correctly that would enable this to happen automatically.   Or can I set the printer on a static IP so its not always changing?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Solved!
Go to Solution.

Setting the device to have the same address assigned to it each time it is turned on.
For an Actiontec router. Westell router may be close to this.
1. Log Into the router with your web brouser at  http://192.168.1.1/
2. User name "admin" password is "password or password1". Without the quotes.
3. Open Advanced from the top menu, and answer yes.
4. Open IP Address Distribution.
5. Open Connection List
6. Look for your device.
7. Select Edit for your device from under the Action column on the right.
8. Check the box that says "Static Lease Type" and click apply.
Your device will always be asigned the same address when it connects to the network .
Or set the address as static on the printer if it can be done. You would need to look at the printer documentation.

  • Connecting Wireless N Router to Existing Fios Router for NAS Access

    What I'm Trying To Do:
I have a 1TB Western Digital MyBook Live as my new NAS for accessing music, photos, video.  Accessing this data through the Actiontec MI424WR Wireless 802.11b/g is not the best performance.  I want to add in a wireless-N router to the mix but know I have to keep my existing Fios Router in the mix.
Understanding that the Gigabit part of a wireless-N Gigabit router is for the wired speed increase, do I need to get a gigabit router for when I plug in my NAS, or does that not make a difference.
Basically, I know that the wireless-N will get me better access wirelessly, but will connecting the NAS via Gigabit give me an extra boost as well?
According to most posts, getting a wireless-N router directly from Fios is near impossible, so bridging a new router to the existing one seems like the best bet.
Thanks for any help anyone has.

I bridged an N router to my MI424WR,which is also an N router and really did not notice a big performance jump,i am satisfied with the MI424WR.even though my linskys N router is more expensive.

  • Change number mandatory Routing for a particular Plant

    Dear All,
i have requirement to make change no field mandatory for only one plant. this field should not be mandatory for other plant. I tried with OP5A tcode, using plant as influencing field, change no as modified field and content as plant no. so its working but,
it doesnt work for the 1st time execution. from 2nd time only its working. like this user will be able to make the changes without change number in every login 1st time.
So i set the plant as user parameter in user profile and made it working. but its not full proof soluton. can any one suggest some solution??
    please suggest.

    Hello Santosh
The change number requirements on CS02 is controlled by the authorization object C_STUE_ROH.
Note 420878 provides more information about this scenario.
Check the relevant information provided on the note below:
    Symptom
In Customizing of the BOM, the history requirement is set or a BOM requires a history. Despite this, it is possible to process BOMS without engineering change management. The system only processes a warning message (29 045) which can be skipped.
    Additional key words
    CS02, change number, OS27, W045(29)
    Cause and prerequisites
    Authorization profile
    Solution
Check the authorization profile of the respective user.
    Example:
             C_STUE_NOH <OBJ>
                &_SAP_ALL    <AUT>
                    NOHIS      <FLD>
would have the authorization to process BOMs requiring history without a change number. In this case, if you change '*' to ' ' in NOHIS, you will no longer receive a warning, but rather an error message.

  • Doubt about changes in the routing for the next year

    Hello All,
I have a question hope for you guys to gave a brief and technical answer to me.
I have some doubts, one doubts is in the actual routing, can I change the Valid to ( Date) in the routings in the operation. (Example. original valid to date is 31.12.9999 i want to change this with 31.12.2007). Because we want to create new routing with changes for the next year. But it´s necessary the new routing is valid from  01.01.2008 and valid to 31.12.2008.
And I can´t 2 routings with the same valid  for 01.01.2008
I have many routings for change and I have other option like change the status (create or release).
Other doubt, the user has a excel file with the changes necessary, how can I upload from excel file to SAP R/3. It exist one program, one procedure u other option.
Your kind response is what am ex[ecting expert. Thanks,

    Hi
pl use the ECM functionality (engineering change functionality) for the same..its standard SAP and no need for any special config..
You can channge the same routings by giving the effectivity date in ECR (eng change request)
for creating an ECR pl follow the below steps
    =Create Engineering change request - TCODE - CC31
=Click on object type after entering this screen parameters
    =Click on status management
=and change status by clicking on “Check request”
=Select the required objects types to be changed and click on objects to reach the below screen
=Enter the required objects to be changed via selecting appropriate tab.
=Select the object and click on details
    =Click on status management
=Go to Header and  click  on status
=Change the status by clicking upto convert request.
=Click on the save button and Engineering Change Request has been created..
    IMP Notes -
Do close and Release the Engineering change request after doing the appropriate changes at both “Object level and Header Level “
Pl come back for any further clarifications..
rewards will be appriciated if found useful

  • Is there a way to change the default action for clicking a "Print" button on a website to open Print Preview instead of the default system printer?

When I am at a website that contains a button for printing (Gmail, for example), is there a way to change the way that functions, so that when I click "Print", Firefox will open Print Preview instead of taking me to the default system printer?

You can apply  system-wise "negative" color effect under Settings > General > Accessibility, by toggling the White and Black switch - and, in iCab Mobile (and some other, better browsers / PDF readers), its own "night mode" negative color scheme.
Otherwise, no, you can't do anything else except for asking third party app authors to add selectable back/froeground (=text) colors to their apps.

  • 2 subnets with one FIOS router

I am using the FIOS router for home and sometimes need to test certain situations for my work.  I have set up a virtual lab that uses the 192.188.1.x subnet from the router.  I have also set up a second virtual network that uses the 192.168.2.x subnet and have the two networks routed (virtually) between them.  When it comes to accessing the internet, all of my .1 hosts, physical and virtual can connect with no problem, but none of my .2 hosts can do this.  DNS resolution works, but actual outbound traffic is somehow being blocked.  I set up a network object that contains all the IP addresses of my 192.168.2.x subnet and created a new input and output rule in Firewall > Advanced Filtering that allows all outbound and inbound traffic to/from the other subnet.  It still doesn't work, but I think I'm close.  I can't see anything else that would block this and the firewall logging doesn't really help either.  Has anyone been able to successful do this?  Just to clarify, I do not have and additional physical routers in the mix, all virtual using Windows routing and Hyper-V virtualization.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

My home network is on 192.168.1.x (attached to the actiontec)
I have a secondary NAT router (Cisco Linksys) running in the standard internet configuration with it's WAN interface connected to the ActionTec (and getting a 192.168.1.x address) and the private LAN addressed as 192.168.2.x (it's running in NAT/Firewall mode so everything which passes thru it get's assigned the 192.168.1.x address of the WAN interface of the Linksys).
Behind the Linksys, I have a router and some switches running various configurations with VLAN's and additional networks -- such 192.168.3.x and 192.168.4.x) and these are all routed internally on that network and defined to the Cisco Linksys.  Anything from these networks that get routed to the Linksys NAT to the 192.168.1.x address on their way to the internet (the linksys can handle multiple networks).

  • FIOS Router With OpenDNS ... Is This Discouraged?

I've been using OpenDNS successfully with my FIOS router for several months.  I never had a problem until having FIOS TV installed.  Some "techies" might find this interesting.
My Question -- I learned that using non-standard DNS settings was probably interfering with my FIOS TV initial installation.  However, once the installation successfully completes, I wonder whether it's considered safe to resume using OpenDNS, or might this somehow interfere in some way again?
The Background -- I enjoyed chatting with the FIOS TV installation technician and I distinctly remember coincidentally mentioning that I was using OpenDNS settings on my FIOS router; he seemed completely unconcerned.
After completing the installation, he observed the FIOS TV Guide would not install on my FIOS TV receiver.  He mentioned that sometimes there are delays; I should allow up to an hour for the download to complete, but if it still didn't work, I should call him and he'd be able to issue a reset/restart command for the FIOS TV Guide download.  Three hours later I called him, he restarted the download, but another three hours later, the FIOS TV Guide still had not downloaded.
The Symptoms -- I couldn't display any programming guide-type information.  In addition, the DVR controls -- rewind, pause, fast-forward, etc -- also would not function.
As I called Tech Support, the procedures he recommended -- removing the power (unplugging) my set-top box (STB), and then plugging it in again -- had no effect.  Repeated attempts failed.  Once again, though, I coincidentally mentioned that I had been using OpenDNS.  The technician didn't know what that was, but I briefly explained, and he concluded THIS might be interfering with getting the FIOS TV Guide downloaded.
Here's what happened next, which really surprised me: Tech Support was able to remotely command a router master reset.  Who knew they had this kind of "back door"?  Not I.  After performing the router master reset, the FIOS TV Guide downloaded in mere moments.  My FIOS TV installation was now functioning normally.
However, I've been hesitant to change the router's DNS settings again.  If I don't get a definitive reply via this forum, I suppose I'll have to contact Tech Support via e-mail and ask them to carefully consider my question.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you for your reply.  So, I guess that settles it.  I'll use OpenDNS again and see what happens.
I can only guess, but if your situation/configuration and mine were the same, perhaps you already had Verizon TV installed and THEN you began using OpenDNS afterward?  As I said, that's just a guess.
In my situation, though, the sequence of events were probably different.  With me, (1) I had been using Verizon FIOS Phone and Internet only with the router's default settings, (2) then I adjusted the FIOS router to use OpenDNS, and (3) then several months afterward I had FIOS TV added and immediately had the difficulties I described in the initial message for this thread.
Perhaps the difficulties with using OpenDNS, if any, are limited to these two situations: (1) The initial download of the Verizon FIOS TV guide, and (2) interacting with certain Tech Support diagnostic commands.  I may not have mentioned it, but as Tech Support was diagnosing why the guide was not downloading, the technician had issued certain commands to the router, but the router was unresponsive, leading him to think the cause may have been my use of OpenDNS.  That's when he dug deeper into his "bag of tricks" and issued a "master reset" command, which apparently was comparable to using the Reset switch in back of the router.  Who knew they could "hack" their way in like that?
In any case, thanks again for your message.

  • Airport Express vs FIOS Router

Just had FIOS installed in my home. Really is awesome. They would not install my Airport Express stating the range is better on their router. Is this true? The range is good, but hate not using  my Airport Express that I just resently purchased. Is it difficult to reconnect the Airport Express to the FIOS modem? Any help you can give is appreciated. Thank you!!!

    Linette,
This can get confusing, since we are talking about two different things here.
It is possible to turn off the wireless function on the FIOS router, connect the AirPort Express to the FIOS router using a permanent Ethernet cable connection,  and use the Express to provide your wireless network.
That's a lot of work, with no assurance that there would be any improvement if you did this. Unless you are confident in your abilities and adept at troubleshooting, it would probably be best to leave well enough alone and use the FIOS router for your wireless service.
It appears that Allen was suggesting that you use the current FIOS router to provide a wireless signal and the Express (located a few rooms sway) to "extend" the FIOS router signal wirelessly.
That won't work, since the Express is not compatible with the FIOS router for this purpose.

  • FiOS router issue or client issue?

    Hi,
My devices that are connected to the network seem to intermittenly disconnect from the WiFi FiOS router for a brief second. This may not seem determential to computers, but it does frustrate the h*** out of me when I'm playing via an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. Just for that brief second, my Xbox disconnects me out of Xbox Live and my Playstation disconnects me from the Playstation Network. I've tried all 3 channels (1,6,11) and Automatic. This issue happens even if the router is reset to factory settings. Is my FiOS router faulty? Or is it the devices that are connected to the network? My FiOS router is Rev. I (red router with 2 antennas). I tried creating a mobile hotspot on the Galaxy S3 and so far none of the devices have been disconnnected when I connect to that hotspot.

Are your TV and Phone Service working correctly? No pixelations in the TV Video? No voice drop-outs on the phone line?
Have you tried performing a trace route to see where the issue is? If you open up Command Prompt, you can type in this command:
    tracert www.google.com
From there, you can post up the results you receive. Lastly, have you attempted to reboot your ONT itself?

  • Wrong mac address listed in verizon router for a device on my network

    Hi folks,
I'm having some routing issues and hope you can help.
I've got the standard  verizon actiontec MI424WR-GEN3I router for my standard LAN and then a 2nd router (linksys wrt54g) for a testing environment I set up, to help isolate the traffic.  I'm using the LAN to WAN strategy to set up the two networks.
everything seems to be working fine except for the fact that my devices behind the actiontec router cannot ping/access any devices behind the linksys router, but the devices behind the linksys router are able to ping and reach the devices behind the actiontec router.
my actiontec subnet is 192.168.1.X while my linksys subnet is 192.168.2.X.  I followed this tutorial on the verizon forum to hopefully get the two networks talking correctly: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Multiple-routers-and-subnets-can-t-access-across-subnets/...
an issue I see in my actiontec router is that it appears as though the mac address is not correct for what I'd imagine is the WAN port on the linksys router.  the actiontec is showing the MAC as 00:13:10:73:72:6a while the sticker on the router itself and through the ARP command in the command prompt shows the MAC for the linksys router as 00:13:10:73:72:69.  I've power cycled both routers 2x and nothing has changed.  I currently have the ethernet cable that goes from my actiontec to the linksys unplugged so hopefully it'll drop from network list eventually and reaquire an address when it's hooked back up, hopefully correcting the wrong MAC address issue.
I'm a bit perplexed as to why I can get out to the internet just fine on my 192.168.2.X network with a botched MAC address, but I can't ping the network that's just a hop away...even after following the guide mentioned above.
    any ideas here?

You can release the address yourself.  It's a function under my network, network connections, broadband connection (whichever one is connected), configure connection
    dhcp lease Release
    Then recycle the router
After you set up the static route did the ping work? - ensure that you have icmp enabled on the linksys.  If you don't get a ping response it indicates an issue with the static route rule.

  • Solution for loss of DHCP with Win7 Home Group issues with FIOS Router

Apparently the FIOS Router (Westell 9100 in my case) doesn't like the IPv6 that Homegroup uses.  I lost DHCP service on all three computers that have Win7 installed.  I could manually set the IPv4 addresses in the Network Connector options on my computer and every thing worked fine. If I tried to use DHCP for IPv4 I wound up with a private network address (169.xxx.xxx.xxx).
DHCP for IPv4 worked fine adfter I disable IPv6 and the associated topology services.  I also removed the HomeGroup option from our network setup.
If you want to use home group be prepared to manually set the IPv4 addresses in your network devices.
    Good luck

    Interesting, thanks for posting.
Are these Windows 7 PCs that you installed 7 onto yourself, or ones that came with it? I have an HP laptop that came with Windows 7 already installed, no issues at all about IPv6 that I know of. IPv6 is still activated, works just fine on my FiOS Actiontec router, but maybe the Westell is just enough different to be sensitive to that.
    Strange.

  • BEGGING for any help w/ FIOS router problem.

    Hi All,
I am a noob at networking and in desperate need of help.  I just got FIOS installed for phone, TV, and internet.   I am at my wits end, and the wife wants me to return it all and get cable back.  The internet connection they set up is via coax, and I was given the Actiontec modem/router.  Since my issue is complex, and I know people will need all the info to help me, I’ll try and break this post down.
My problem:  I need to use my Linksys WRT600N wireless router.   All of my laptops have draft n cards, and I also need to connect my (networked) hard drive to it (the Linksys supports a usb connection).  I also have many things I need to connect to it.  FIOS said I could do this when I called to order, but the techs who arrived said they didn’t know how.
My set up:   I have 4 wired electronics, 1 network USB hard drive, Vonage, and several wireless g and n devices that I need to connect to the router so I would really like to keep mine.  However I am willing to buy a new item (bridge or access point) if anybody knows one that will definitely work and meet my needs (4 LAN ports, a usb port, and n access).  Somebody suggested the “D-Link DAP1522 Xtreme” claiming it won’t have any of the problems I am facing now.  If anyone can confirm that please let me know.
What I have done so far:  As suggested earlier, I just plugged my router into one of the LAN ports but that didn’t work.  So then I tried making the FIOS router a bridge, and that ended up making the TVs not have guide data, or widgets, or VOD (but my router worked).  I also followed the directions here… ( DSL REPORTS TOPIC: www.dslreports.com/faq/verizonfios/3.0_Networking#16077  ) but nothing has allowed me to use my router, and keep the TVs getting the guide, widgets, and VOD.   It also resulted in me having to call FIOS b/c even after restoring the router defaults, I couldn’t get back online and they had to “reissue me a new ip”.  I don’t know what else to do, or even what I’m doing wrong.  I have read so many conflicting posts and would just like step by step “noob-ish” instructions that can solve my problem.  (Or if anybody knows something I can buy that will just work when I plug it in).
I have been told FIOS won’t support this and not to bother calling tech support.   I’m extremely mad that they lied to me to get me to agree to the install, then only told me this router info after all my lines have been cut.  I am posting my FIOS router info below, along with the Linksys router.  If anybody could help me, or send me in the right direction id be forever grateful.
    My  FIOS info is:
    Router:  Actiontect
    Firmware Version:   4.0.16.1.56.0.10.11.3
    Model Name:   MI424-WR
    Hardware Version:   D
    Physical Connection Type:   Coax
    Broadband Connection Type:   DHCP
My Linksys Router:Linksys WRT600n info located here:  LINSYS ROUTER: www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WRT600N
     Thanks in advance-
    Best-
    Kurt

Here is how I would set it up.
Since you already have your linksys router setup the way you want and some of the equipment may have static IP's I would change the ip of the Actiontec.
Your linksys is most likely 192.168.1.1 which is the same as the actiontec. Change the IP of the actiontec to 192.168.2.1.  You now have two networks so to speak.
You plug the wan of the Linksys into one of the LAN connections on the actiontec.  Your linksys now should get an ip like 192.168.2.2 on the wan side and hand out 192.168.1.x ip's on the LAN side.  The linksys doesn't care where it gets its WAN ip from.  You will most likley have to reboot any STB's so they get a new IP from the Actiontc.
I had to do such a setup when I was setting up an Xbox for someone who also had a home medical business.  They had a firewall that wouldn't let the Xbox  connect to the outside world and no one knew how to configure it.  I hooked up a linksys wireless router before the firewall and had the xbox connect to that.  The new linksys then fed the firewall.
I would also disable the wireless on the actiontec just because it may interfere radio wise with the linksys.  Also do not disable DHCP on any of the routers with this setup.

  • I have Verizon FiOS service for phone, internet and TV but I only have one TV hooked up for it for just basic cable service with no DVR and no need for widgets.  Can I use an Airport Extreme as my router and not use the FiOs router?

I want to use an Airport Extreme as my router.  I currently have a Verizon FiOS router.  I have Verizon for phone, internet and TV.  However, TV-wise, I just have a basic service for one TV with just a regular box.  No HD, no DVR.  Don't need access to a menu, widgets, on-demand.  Can I eliminate the FiOS Router and just use the Airport Extreme and still have phone and internet?

I know that it will increase my wireless coverage in my house but will it increase the speeds?
Not sure what you are asking here.  The AirPort Extreme is only going to be as fast as the Internet connection that it receives.....which is 75/75. It cannot take a 75/75 connection and make it go any faster.
If you locate the AirPort Extreme in an area where you need more wireless signal coverage, the AirPort Extreme would deliver 75/75 in that area.  But, keep in mind that the AirPort Extreme must connect to the FIOS router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection.
If you are asking if the AirPort Extreme can wirelessly connect to the FIOS modem router, and extend the FIOS wireless network, the AirPort Extreme would not be compatible with a FIOS product for that purpose.

  • Why am I being told my email address has changed and need to change it for my apple id to work?

Not just iTunes store, but every day or so, when I'm trying to check for updated apps in iTunes, or download something on iPhone or update OS X software via App Store, I'm told that my email address has changed and I need to update it before I can download tunes from iTunes.
I then get redirected to a page where my apple id is shown (my email address), the address field is blank and a couple of password fields with ****** in them.
I put my email address (apple id) back in and all is well.
Why is it being reset all the time?
I don't have another apple id with the same address, but I do have a lot of devices using my one apple id:
    A Mac (Lion latest)
    iPhone 4S (iOS5 latest)
    iPad 1 (iOS5 latest)
    iTunes on XP (latest iTunes)
iPhone 3G (iPhone OS 3 - yea, really ancient)
    Apple TV 1 (latest)
Wondering if one of these could be causing a reset.

this can happen when the billing address in your appleid info is not EXACTLY the same as your bank details, depending of the bank (see if you right "st" instead "street" maybe)
