IP Address reversed?

First thing - this is *not* a question about Reverse DNS.
I've recently replaced our router at home and since then our DNS is resolving one of our company's domain names incorrectly - specifically the IP address is being returned in reverse order.
So instead of getting aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd, I am getting ddd.ccc.bbb.aaa
This has only happened in this one location as far as I can tell, and is happening on both the Macs which we use at home. If I take the computer somewhere else, I get the correct IP address.
In Network Utility, doing a lookup for machinename.domainname.co.uk gives:
machinename.domainname.co.uk 86400 IN A 19.193.68.109
instead of 109.68.193.19
However if I go into terminal and dig machinename.domainname.co.uk, then I get the correct IP address.
My setup at home is a Belkin broadband router, connected to a Time Capsule which provides wired & wireless access to our home computers.
The domain is hosted on our company's LAN on a Mac Mini running Mac OS X Server 10.6.8.
Is that enough information?
Hope someone can help
Cheers
James

I should add that at some point I also replaced the neo-datasources.xml file with one from our development server.

  • Absolute and relative addressing (Reverse Proxy)

    Hi,
we want to use a Reverse Proxy Envirement with EP 6 SP15.
Are the standard links (e.g. navigation) from EP working with relative adressing?
    sample:
    Real address:
    http://www.myserver.com/myapp/mypage.jsp
    address on reverse proxy:
    http://www.otherserver.com/some/other/url/help/index.jsp
Want to link to the origin page
    http://www.myserver.com/myapp/help/index.jsp (origin)
    over
    http://www.otherserver.com/some/other/url/help/index.jsp
This means behind a reverse-proxy I have to address the page as follows:
    ../mypage.jsp
Got anyone experience with this envirement - and is it working?
    Regards
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas,
I guess you will be using Apache as your Reverse Proxy?
Configure your Apache something like this:
My httpd.conf file looks like this:
    <VirtualHost IPAddress:80>
    Redirect / https://server.domain/
    </VirtualHost>
I then have a ssl.conf file that looks like this:
    <VirtualHost IPAddress:443>
    ***Lots of other entries***
    ProxyPass /irj/ https://virtualhost/irj/
    ProxyPassReverse /irj/ https://virtualhost/irj/
    ProxyPass / https://virtualhost/
    ProxyPass /webdynpro/ https://virtualhost/webdynpro/
    </VirtualHost>
Now obviously edit these ProxyPass, and ProxyPassReverse to suit your needs.
    This should help.
    Regards
    Ian

  • ICloud email addresses are reversed

My husband and I have our iCloud email addresses reversed so when I send an iCloud email from my phone it says it is from him and the address is his iCloud address.  On our phones under iCloud account, the other's address is listed and cannot be edited.

Go to icloud.com and log in.
*edit* You need to transition from MobileMe to iCloud first.  If you haven't, go to me.com and log in.

We have setup the Java Messaging Server to send/recieve mails from a gateway. The inbound mail flow works perfectly but, the outbound mail flow has issues.

=========================================================================Do we have to make any changes on other config files except the imta.cnf and mappings file for inbound and outbound..
    thanks for any help
    Edited by: prasad0_0 on Jul 8, 2008 4:58 AM

i have already setup the messaging server 6 months back.. followed the same procedure to route mails to a gateway..
made changes to the imta.cnf for outbound mail flow to the tcp_local and mappings file to accept inbound mail flow from the gateway. Its working perfectly on the older setup, but this now, have issues with new setup.
    here is the imta.cnf file..

  • AddressBook and Calendar syncronization?!?

Gentlemen, please excuse me if this has been answered before, I have spend a couple of days googling for answers with not much luck.
Here is my issue. About a month ago, I purchased a Mac Mini Server with SLS, to use it as a family server. The idea was to have our own email, web server etc (which are all working fine), but also I wanted the server to act as a "central point" for user address book and calendar synchronization.
What I mean with that, is that I wanted a central repository of our address books and calendars. We do NOT need to share address books. Maybe we could use a shared calendar, but again, it is not something mandatory, for the time being all we need is to be able to duplicate each member's address books and calendars on the server and in our devices.
Devices to be used as clients:
    - One iMac (obviously always connected to the server)
    - One MacBook (obviously this is USUALLY connected to the server, but not always). This machine acts as my wife home computer and as my traveling computer.
    - Two iPhones (obviously these are usually NOT connected to the server, but they eventually get connected at some time of the day)
Until now, I've been using MobileMe for address book and calendar syncronization and I was hoping that by having the server I could avoid paying $100 per year for that service. Unfortunately, so far, I am unable to use the server for that task.
What I have managed so far, is:
    _On the iMac_,
AddressBook: I have duplicated all my address book entries to my account address book on the server. However, for the name of God, how can I keep them in sync? In other words, if I add a contact in my iMac address book, it doesn't get copied to the server address book. How can I do that automatically? I know one answer would be to use only the server address book, since this machine is always connected to the server, but that doesn't solve the problem, see below.
Calendar: I can't find any way to copy my calendar contents to the my account calendar on the server. I can see the two calendars in iCal, but when I enter an entry in the server calendar, it stays in the server calendar and is NOT reflected in my local calendar and vice versa. Again, for the iMac that's not an issue, I could use the server calendar only (provided I can export my current, local calendar entries and import them to the server calendar), but again that doesn't solve the problem, see below:
_On the MacBook and the iPhones_
AddressBook: Now here is where the problem is. If I take the MacBook on a trip and I add a couple of contacts in my address book on the laptop, how can I have them copied to my server address book? As far as I can tell, the only way is to manually copy them. Isn't there a way to do so automatically? Either when I am away (via the Internet, when I'll connect to the Internet) or even when I return back home? I can't always use the server address book when I am away, because I may not always be connected to the Internet, so I need to be able to enter a contact in my local address book, and I need to have it copied to my server address book automatically when I connect to the Internet. Just like I do now with MobileMe.
Calendar: Again, the same thing. I want to be able to add a calendar entry to my local calendar on the road, which will be copied to my server calendar when I connect to the Internet (or the LAN at home). Can that be done?
And of course, the same calendar or address book entries I entered in the MacBook (while on the road), should be reflected back to my iPhone calendar and addresbook, when I connect to the Internet, just like they do now using MobileMe.
Can this be done?!? If so, please tell me how.
    Thank you for your attention.
P.S.: The server is available on the internet, with fixed IP etc. Connectivity to the server is NOT an issue.

Move all your contacts and calendars to the server. Setup accounts on the server for groups in your family.
    We have the following:
    Husband
    Wife
    HusbandWife
    Kids
All contacts are stored on server in the various accounts, and each person has access to what is appropriate. Husband/Wife have everything. Kids have less access, but there are three calendars in that section, Both, Child1 and Child2. My wife and I have our own stuff (like to-do's), but most of our appointments are in HusbandWife.
The kids have to put their homework in each week. We put in their other stuff. It shows up on their computers/ipads/iphones, etc.
The key is to get it all to the server. If you change something when you aren't connected it will synch up at the next connection.
Now - here is the tough part. You need perfect DNS to get all this working. Fully qualified public IP address, reverse lookup, etc. etc. with all the ports open. When you think you have it all setup with your ISP call Apple support and have them check it. Without the DNS you'll never get it all to work, particularly the wireless devices.

  • Limited use of indexes in XE db?

I tried to use reverse key index in my XE database, but I cannot...
is this type of indexes disabled in XE db?
where can I found a list of all limitations in Express edition database?

how did you exactly use it, no problems here,

  • Incorrect Sender value when 'mail' attribute is multivalued

    hi,
i've just upgraded Sun messaging server 2005Q4 from IMS 5.2 and noted some behavioural difference in the reverse_url operations.
I've noted that reverse_url operations on the 'mail' attribute for ims5.2 seems to ignore subsequent values of this attribute if it's multivalued.
Sun Messaging 2005Q4, however, seems to have taken into account the multiple values of the 'mail' attribute.
This is resulting the mail's "From:" field to be using the subsequent values.
    Setup
Account: mailtes1 (with multivalued 'mail' attribute)
    mail: [email protected]
[email protected] (Not a configured mail domain handled by Sun messaging. Used by other applications)
mailhost: mailsit.portnet.com.sg (for Sun messaging 2005q4)
    pnsasit1app1.portnet.com (for ims52)
test mails are sent to the same accounts.
Results of ./imsimta test -rewrite -debug mailtes1 on Sun Messaging 2005q4 as follows:

    Questions:
    1) How do i retain the functionality of using 1st value of the mail attribute as the address to be used?
I need the address reversing to retain '@portnet.com.sg' value.
    2) I've not encountered the same problem when using ims52.
Is there a functional diffences here?

    Hi Shane,
    Thank you for the reply.
We tried adding a mailequivalentaddress attribute, eg [email protected] but the From field still have the value from the mail attribute, eg [email protected]. Do we still need to configure anything to make this to work?
Besides we tried another option by doing the following:
    a. Changing the following lines in options.dat file:
    REVERSE_URL=ldap:///$V?mail?sub?$Q
    to
    REVERSE_URL=ldap:///$V$N?sub?$R
    b. We ensure that '@portnet.com.sg' is the 1st value
    c. adding a 'noreverse' keyword for the 'ims-ms' channel
And it works without the need for the mailequivalentaddress, is this a proper implementation?
any implications with putting 'noreverse' for ims-ms channel?
We're now considering changing of primary address attribute used.
Need your advise on the following:
    1) Please advise how go about configuring another attribute to store the primary address.
    2) Can we use mailAlternateAddress as the new primary address attribute?
If a totally new attribute is needed, please advise on the requirements for the creation of this attribute to be usable by Sun Messaging 2005Q4.
This change was mentioned in the administration guide.
Chapter 9 The Direct LDAP Algorithm and Implementation
    Seeding the Reversal Cache
Next the primary address and any aliases attached to the user entry are considered. This information is used to seed the address reversal cache. It plays no part in the current address translation process. First, the primary address, personal name, recipient limit, recipient cutoff, and source block limit attributes are considered. The primary address is normally stored in the mail attribute; another attribute can be specified by setting the LDAP_PRIMARY_ADDRESS MTA option appropriately. (The primary address reverses to itself, of course.) There is no default attribute for any of the other attributes. If you want to use them, you must specify them with the LDAP_PERSONAL_NAME, (see Vacation Autoreply Attributes) LDAP_RECIPIENTLIMIT, LDAP_RECIPIENTCUTOFF, (see Limiting Message Recipients) and LDAP_SOURCEBLOCKLIMIT (see Specifying Absolute Message Size Limits) MTA options. The corresponding domain-level recipient limit, recipient cutoff, and source block limit attributes are also considered at this point. User-level settings completely override any domain-level setting.
Next, any secondary addresses are considered and a cache entry is made for each one. There are two sorts of secondary addresses: Those that undergo address reversal and those that do not. Both must be considered in order to properly seed the address reversal cache because of the need to check for message capture requests in all cases.
Secondary addresses that undergo reversal are normally stored in the mailAlternateAddress attribute. Another attribute can be specified by setting the LDAP_ALIAS_ADDRESSES MTA option. Secondary addresses that do not undergo reversal are normally stored in the mailEquivalentAddress attribute. Another attribute can be specified with the LDAP_EQUIVALENCE_ADDRESSES MTA option.

  • Postmaster problem

The member of the Postmaster group, [email protected] gets email when it's sent to [email protected] (an automatically created alternate address).
But mail sent to [email protected] doesn't get sent to me...
This domain's users receive e-mail at [email protected] rather than [email protected], via associateddomain and sunpreferreddomain.
The postmaster's mail attribute was changed to be [email protected] from [email protected] - but either did not work. The base dn however remains "that.the.otter.com."
adding another alternate address (additional to postmast) as [email protected] (with the mail attribute in either state mentioned above) also resulted in:
Address list error -- 5.1.1 unknown or illegal user: [email protected]

    what's postmast for?

From the debug output it appears the following is happening:
22:02:19.49: Checking for [email protected] in the system alias file
22:02:19.49: - system alias file match for [email protected]
    22:02:19.49: Initial pool address: postmast
    22:02:19.49: - postmast
=> Match is being found in the /opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/aliases file for [email protected], this points at 'postmast'
    22:02:19.50: URL determined to be: ldap:///o%3Dthat.the.otter.com%2Co%3Disp?*?sub?(|(mail=[email protected])(mailAlternateaddress=
    [email protected])(mailEquivalentaddress=[email protected]))
22:02:19.50: Search succeeded but 0 entries returned
22:02:19.50: No matching entries were found that were valid
=> A lookup is being performed for postmast@(default domain) i.e. [email protected] which fails
So you need to fix either the aliases file or provision an account with [email protected]
    Regards,
    Shane.

  • Mail features in Lion Server

I work for a small company that only has three machines; one Mac and two PCs. Currently we're using gmail as our email provider.
Long story short, we bought an all-in-one printer that has a scan to email feature. However, the printer only provides "Login/Plain" SMTP authentication, and gmail requires SSL or TLS authentication to send and receive emails. We're looking at a few different possibilites on how to get this fixed, which lead me here.
Is it possible to set up email accounts on Lion Server that will accept emails without SSL or TLS authentication? Will Lion server still work well with the two PCs we have? And will I be able to continue to use my iMac for the design work I do now if I load Lion Server on it?
I don't mind recommending the purchase, I just want to make sure it will solve our issues before doing so. Thanks in advance for any help!

Is it possible to set up email accounts on Lion Server that will accept emails without SSL or TLS authentication?
Yes. That's the default. You have to take extra steps to support SSL/TLS.
Will Lion server still work well with the two PCs we have?
Yes. email is pretty ubiquitous nowadays, and even PCs can connect to a standard UNIX mail server.
And will I be able to continue to use my iMac for the design work I do now if I load Lion Server on it?
Yes. Running server adds several background services to your machine, but if you're just running mail it won't be noticeable.
I don't mind recommending the purchase, I just want to make sure it will solve our issues before doing so.
There are many other issues involved in running your own mail server.
Are you planning/hoping to use this server for all your mail? including email coming in to your users?
If so you're going to run into issues with accounts, static IP addresses, reverse DNS and the like.
On the other hand, if you're just using this to relay your users' mail over to Gmail then it's not such a big deal. You will, however, need to get under the hood to configure gmail's TLS authentication, since the GUI doesn't provide this functionality - it can be done, but it's not a one-click option.

  • Diffs b/n 10.4.3 clients and 10.3.9 on OSX Server 10.3.9

We have a smooth running OSX Server (standalone running 10.3.9) with mainly 10.3.9 clients (G3 iMacs to latest eMacs). When we configure brand new 10.4.3 clients (new eMacs) using the same settings in Directory Access we can't get login to work.
All that happens is that the Username and Password go grey and the machine hangs with frantic network activity (based on flickering lights on the switch). The dialog box doesn't shake.
In some cases the computer will eventually login but it takes several hours - usually though, not at all - or at least I get sick of waiting after a full school day.
Clearly there is some wrinkle about 10.4.3 that I can't see. If I clone one of our 10.3.9 machines onto the new machines they workl perfectly, but I want to use Tiger.
Everything is fully updated, network is 100baseT.

    eMacs and a G4 Xserve   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Server is 10.3.9

    Stephen,
You seem to be doing pretty well for having trained yourself.
By forward and reverse lookups, I meant DNS lookups--I typically use nslookup, but lookupd will work too. If you get the server's IP address from the FQDN (foward lookup) and the FQDN from the IP address (reverse lookup), then your DNS settings are fine.
Ultimately, you should change the paths to your share points so they meet the requirements, but before you do that, I would run a test with a temporary share point to see if you can get your 10.4.3 clients to work. Use something like the default /Users share point--re-share it if necessary, and make sure you create a network mount record for it--and then set up a test user with its home directory in that share point. Then see if you can log in as that user on a 10.4.3 client.
If you still can't, try using the dscl command-line utility to see if you can see the directory records for your automount. Here's an example from our setup (what you type is in italics):
    % dscl localhost
    cd LDAPv3/10.1.0.101/Mounts
    /LDAPv3/10.1.0.101/Mounts > ls
    my.server.edu:/Volumes/Students
    /LDAPv3/10.1.0.161/Mounts > read my.server.edu<tab to auto-complete>
    cn: my.server.edu:/Volumes/Students
    mountDirectory: /Network/Servers/
Basically, this tells you what mounts are published on your server. In your instance, you should see an entry for your Group Folders/Middle Years share point in the list from the ls command. If you can see the mount records for your home directory share points, and you can see the attributes of those records with the read command, that eliminates one possible source of the problem (whether the client is having problems binding to the server). This is unlikely to be the problem in your circumstances, but it's good to eliminate it out of the box.
Note that your server's entry may be listed by host name instead of IP address--in dscl, cd into the LDAPv3 directory and do an ls to see what's there. If you don't see an entry, or if you can't cd into the Mounts directory or you see nothing there, try rebuilding the Directory Access preferences from scratch. Log in as admin, delete the contents of /Library/Preferences/DirectoryService, reboot, and run Directory Access to re-add an LDAPv3 configuration for your server. When you do that, enter the server's IP address, and Directory Access should fill in the search base for you. Save, quit, and reboot the machine, and see if you can log in then.
Now, to your questions. Search base is in fact the dc=my,dc=com part. The ldapsearch command is useful if you need to see whether your client can bind to an LDAP server. It's actually not likely to be helpful in this situation, because your clients seem to be authenticating. I wasn't thinking when I added that suggestion. As to "static bind"--that just means that you are configuring Directory Access explicitly to contact a specific server, rather than letting the client get that information through DHCP.
If none of this helps, of course, post back. And good luck.

  • Advices & rules for package hierarchy

    Hi,
I developing a new project and I'll use packages for the first time. (My company doesn't have rules for package)
I would like to know the gereral rules for creating a good hierarchy.
    i'm thinking of something like:
    com.mycompany.myproject.form
    com.mycompany.myproject.dialog
    com.mycompany.myproject.sql
    com.mycompany.myproject.dataobjects
    com.mycompany.myproject.table
    com.mycompany.myproject.tree
Should I use also packages like com.mycompany.table for generals stuff like table models that could be of use for others projects ?
Is this a good idea ? Do you have any suggestions ?

I am not aware of any hard and fast rules for packaging. There are some things I keep in mind when I setup hierarchies though:
    1) The "standard" (more common than standard) is your businesses internet address reversed. So for instance, if you are www.foo.com, your packages would start out with "com.foo". Some people leave off the "com" part as well, so you would have "foo". I don't like this however as more and more companies reserve "*.net" and "*.com" and "*.org" etc addresses. Leave the top level domain on there. This is mostly just for namespace sake, so you don't get two pieces of code from two different companies with the same name.
    2) Is this the only product your company produces? OR will this be the only product your company produces? If the answer is no, you may want to put the product name next, so now we have "com.foo.product1". This will allow you to build nice, clash safe hierarchies.
    3) Most products are broken down into a number of projects or modules. Sometimes its a good idea to divide the package structure with this information. So now we have "com.foo.product1.module1", "com.foo.product1.module2" etc.
    4) If its an enterprise application (multitiered, J2EE, etc), I personally like to divide the code into tiers. It makes building easier and packaging for deployment much more intuitive. You might have web tier code, database tier code, application tier code, code common to all tiers etc. So now we have "com.foo.product1.module1.app" and "com.foo.product1.module1.web", etc. If its not an enterprise multi-tiered application, skip this step.
    5) Now within the hierarchy we have built up, its pretty much up to you to logically divide your code.
    6) It is now possible to "push" code up to certain levels to make it available to other projects/products/tiers. If you develop a nice data structure that you think might be useful to other products your company is developing, move the data structure up to an appropriate level to make it available to all products. For instance, "com.foo.structures.AwesomeStructure", instead of "com.foo.product1.structures.AwesomeStructure".
    7) Products and projects should not import outside of their "scope". This prevents cross project dependency and cross product dependency. If another project or product needs to import something outside its scope then the code should be moved to a more common place to make it available.
Some will call this overly anal, but it has worked well for me for a few years. Hopefully others can provide you with more tips.
    Hope this helps.

  • Forward mail to MS Exchange for certain users

    Hello.
We have a "master" Oracle Messaging Exchange Server and we have recently installed a Microsoft Messaging Server. We need certain users to use MS Exchange. The idea is changing mailHost LDAP attribute for those users (let's take [email protected] as an example), setting the MS Exchange HUB server, let's say hub.domain.com (mailHost: hub.domain.com). Doing so, mails sent to [email protected] are sent to hub.domain.com using lmtp channel. Everything works fine except for an issue: MS Exchange sees the from address like "user@lmtpcs-daemon", so we have to configure MS Exchange to use "lmtpcs-daemon" as secondary domain of domain.com, otherwise it doesn't know what to do with those mails.
Is there a way to not do that rewrite for certain users? Or maybe can we create a new channel to forward mails to Exchange? Could we define a channel depending on mailHost value or something like that?
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you very much.

Thank you very much for your inputs.
It's being quite difficult for me to understand this whole mail routing thing. According to the documentation:
"The handling of a missing mailhost attribute is different depending on whether the entry is a user or a group. In the case of a user, a mailhost is essential, so if no mailhost attribute is present a new address of the form
    @smarthost:user@domain
is constructed using the smart host for the domain determined by the LDAP_DOMAIN_ATTR_SMARTHOST MTA option"
Sounds good, it seems that I just need to delete mailHost attribute for the users who need to use Exchange and set LDAP_DOMAIN_ATTR_SMARTHOST in option.dat. I've tried that but I get a "4.0.0 temporary error returned by alias expansion" when I send a mail to the test user.
I've deleted the LDAP_DOMAIN_ATTR_SMARTHOST line and I've set mailRoutingSmartHost LDAP attribute for the user but I get the same result.
I'm not even sure about the mailRoutingSmartHost format. This is what I have:
    mailRoutingSmartHost: correoweb.saludcastillayleon.es

  • Setup iCal server accessible to the LAN via web browser

    Hello guys,
I am newbie in mac server and I believe there are lots of guys over there that could help me.
    Here's my environment:
    Software/Server: Mac OS X Server 10.6
Hardware: Mac Mini Server Snow Leopard
    LAN/internet Setup:
Broadband -> router -> mac mini server
    -> mac users
    -> pc users
    Now, here's my scenario:
The mac mini is already running (OS is already installed) and act a normal computer usage like internet browsing, doing some documents and so on and so forth. But now, we decided to make the mac mini server as a server(calendar (iCal) server, address book server, web-server). I'm not so much familiar with DNS, DHCP or networking things to make the client computers connected to server.
My main concern is that I want the calendar to be accessible via web browser in our local network (something like this -> http://calendar.company/ or can access via IP address of the server like.. http://192.168.1.20/), in this case Mac and PC users connected to our LAN(router) can able to access and share their our calendar.
    Now questions are:
    1. How can I setup the mac mini server and calendar server to be accessible via web browser to the mac and pc users?
    2. Do I still need to setup DNS and public IP for my server?
    3. Where can I get a step by step tutorials that I could follow?
All recommendations and comments are all appreciated
    Thanks in advance,
    Emmman

I can't find any clear and step by step instructions with my concern. I am not expecting this to be easy(can setup even non-IT) as apple advertise but as I am reading the documentations I notice these things to be properly setup:
    1. Functional DNS system. - This is a high level networking Stuff(Non-IT can't even understand it).
    2. IP addresses, reverse IP's etc - Non-IT can't even understand it
    3. Router Configurations - Non-IT can't even understand it.
and so on and so forth.
We, the newbie on mac server just need a clear and step by step scenario on how to setup the whole thing.
    Thank you.

  • Lync 2013 External Mobility Not Working

    Hello,
The issue I seem to be having is in regards to the external mobility access.
So far everything else in our environment seems to be functioning properly.
The Lync desktop client works both internally as well as externally.
The Lync internal mobility also works.  The only issue seems to be with the external mobility part.
I tried going to the external autodiscover address for our system, https://lyncdiscover.mydomain.com but it doesn’t return anything either.
I think the issue lies somewhere with DNS or my reverse proxy, however I’m having a hard time being able to just start changing settings seeing as how I don’t want to break everything that is currently working for our users.
I’ve been through a lot of the post here but I still can’t seem to find the settings to fix the issue I’m having.
Here is a breakdown of my settings I feel are in question:
